Good video and good review, Jason. I reviewed the same radio not long ago, that extra bit of power makes a big difference in rural areas... and the battery life was amazing!

Some of the ads I have seen were a bit misleading for this radio. I thought it took two batteries (at one time), giving it the current it needed to handle ten watts and run for some time. Apparently, it comes with two batteries so you can change the dead or dying one out. Two batteries with a radio is a good thing, kinda like two magazines with a semi-auto handgun, but it is not exactly the same as if the radio held two batteries for uninterrupted long play. Great review, BTW!

Say that could be the first radio that you might want to suggest to a new ham should buy over the Boafeng. I wonder if the spurious emissions and the harmonics are on this radio? Does it compare to the higher end HTs out there?
@@bulldogbrower6732 Yes, I figured that out since they have a DMR HT that looks exactly like a UV5R. I would just hope that there is a little bit more quality in this radio over their "You can get a ham radio for $25" line of junk.
Given a 4w Baofeng or other 4w HT, in order to increase the TX by one S-unit, you have to quadruple the power, 16w! Better to invest in a good antenna, either directly attached to HT or by coax. You alsojust have to accept the limitations of any HT. Low power, inefficient antenna, FM mode (power hungry, wide bandwidth), and ambient conditions, like hills and valleys, buildings, carrying the HT close to body, and not vertical. Tim Taylor's motto, "more power!" is not appropriate, especially if those few extra watts come at a high price. Better to invest in quality HT with usual power output of 4-5 watts, I say.
