debateable. Have an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra silver dial . Its an absolute beauty. Could get 2 of these for 1 of this so. The only difference is an Omega logo instead of Rolex crown logo lol

I indeed actually have and then sold a 36mm aqua Terra - didn’t fully bond with it so moved it on after 18 months, but you are right in it could have been the ultimate one and done watch as well at a far lower price point. Around 1k!

As an owner of this exact model I must agree with you in almost every point. Especially with the accuracy of the movement, I made the same observations. Not a single second deviation while on the wrist and about a second plus or minus otherwise. Love mine so much

I have this 36mm watch too and agree with everything you said. It does wear smaller than I expected but I love it and my 38mm Omega Aqua Terra now looks a bit too big whereas I previously thought it was the perfect size. My copy loses about 2 secs a day when in a watch winder and about 1 sec a day on the wrist, although I’ve never worn it continuously for more than a week because I’m forcing myself to wear my other watches

Great review. I can verify everything you stated about the Explorer. In the 18 years I have worn mine, it has seen multiple adventures, whether on a mountain peak, or scuba diving in places throughout the world. Besides its Everest pedigree, it was worn by Ian Fleming when he wrote the James Bond novels. It is a great under the radar watch, but if someone recognizes your wearing one, it will open doors for you.

I have a few complains about this watch. I'd star with the 19mm lug width, the strange shape of the case where it meets the end link and the proximity of the spring bars to that case. It will try to eat any leather strap you put unless using very thin ones if possible with curved end links. About legibility is ok if you have good eyesight. With aging eyes you will struggle in poor lightning conditions specially during 11 to 1. The text and logo at the 12 is too bold and prominent and out of focus will make you doubt what time it is. On the other hand, the shinny applied indices can be confusing when trying to check the time at a glance. Another complain is that, gives it's supposed to be an "adventure" watch, it will scratch only by blinking near it. One minor thing is that instead of the easy link extension, this should have an on the fly micro adjust instead.

How well does the dial read at 36mm? For reference I have GMT BLNR.
I’m really interested in this watch but wonder if the dial is just to small from a legibility perspective.

    • @the_shadow_realm5110
      @the_shadow_realm5110 5 месяцев назад +5

@@ToolwatchBoutique My theory is that Rolex are purists. Everything must serve a particular function.
Glidelock is their answer to the issue of having a diver’s watch over a wetsuit. Same as the similar extension systems on the Seadwellers and Deepsea watches.
GMTs, Airkings, Explorers and Daytonas will never get Glidelock as Rolex don’t see why they would need to be over a dive suit.
Tudor is allowed to give us what we want, and they put the T-Fit on the Ranger, BB Pro and Pelagos 39 etc. Tudor is allowed to experiment and give us convenience. But Rolex is purist and stubborn.
Glidelock should be on all professional models.

My similarly styled IWC's and Omega's now fill the role that the Explorer once did. It surely is a beautiful rabbit hole.

The only thing I wouls change is the clasp and lug width. It should be 20mm with a wider clasp, then it would be perfect. If I were to really get my way, bring back the 1016 font shape for the numerals.

I absolutely agree about the bracelet and clasp. My only gripe. That being said, I don’t worry about it when wearing it and i still absolutely love (almost) everything about this watch.
As for the round numerals, I wonder what it would look lile with the white gold indeces and glossy dial. It would be cool if somebody photoshopped one. Though I feel like it wouldn’t have the same charm as the painted numerals on matte dial. Then again, the BB58 bronze has round numerals and they‘re nice😃🤔

The lume sucks compared to what? Are you sure the lume actually sucks or do you just think that it sucks because you‘re comparing it to the lume on something like a Sub that has bigger indeces? To me the lume is normal. I feel like my DJ has less than my Explorer for this reason.

@@Bisley1 There is no need to compare the 124270 to any other watch. If you are happy with your 124270 then that is great. But, for me, the lack of Lume was a major turnoff and the reason I dumped it. That, and the 19mm lug width where the lug holes are so damn close to the case.
