Mount EVANS Colorado | #1 Thing to do in Denver

  • Mount Evans is the #1 thing to do in and around Denver, Colorado according to TripAdvisor. And for good reason, not only do you get there by way of North America's highest paved road but along the way, you will discover stunning Echo Lake along with many vistas, hikes, wildlife such as mountain goats, and countless photo-ops.
    In our family vlog we are not only hiking up to the top of the infamous Colorado 14er mountain but are also going to find mountain goats and their kids and visit the Castle in the Sky which used to be the world's highest structure!
    This is a great thing to do for the whole family as a summer day trip to escape the heat of The Foothills and to get to see a totally different side of Colorado. If you're out of town, make sure to give yourself a few days to get used to the general altitude of CO before endeavoring on this 14er. Also, make sure to bring and drink plenty of water!
    The Meyer-Womble Observatory which used to be the highest optical/infrared observatory in the world until 2001, can be seen from the top. It is run by the University of Denver but is currently being decommissioned due to a lack of funding and interest.

      Thank you! Yeah, we feel the same way, sometimes life gets in the way of truly appreciating where we all live. Sometimes it just comes down to waking up early, getting into the car and start driving! 🔥

    I was stationed at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal from 1973 to 1974 and Mt Evans was one of my frequent weekend trips. Loved driving up there and taking in the beautiful views. Unfortunately, I haven't been back since. I wanted to go this past Summer, but I was told the road was closed and of course Covid happened too. Maybe next Summer. I was sad to hear that the building that was there got destroyed by a propane explosion. I don't remember much about the building. My most vivid memory of the building was the oxygen stations. They had a station or stations where you could get oxygen to get you breath back after making that final climb to the summit. Thanks for a great video. Makes me miss Colorado even more.

      Wow Bob, thanks for sharing your memories! It’s hard to imagine the station/castle in the sky being operational looking at it now. Timing is everything to make it up to Mt Evans, the road is generally open from Memorial Day until Labor Day. Good luck next time in the summer, which is also an amazing time of year up here as you know!

    I was there 2 weeks ago, Mt. Evans is beautiful and I was one of those tourists at the top wearing a sweatshirt and flip flops! There was almost a 40° difference from when we entered until we reached the top, luckily for us, there weren't that many people....

      @FernwehChronicles  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! 🙌🏻 Yes, if you’d like to get a bit more hiking in, since this is seriously a drive-up-14er, I guess you could make it harder on yourself and park in one of the parking lots preceding the final peak. I’m not sure if they’re all connected but there are a ton of different trails throughout! Have fun!

      @@FernwehChronicles Gut, das ist ein absolutes Profigerät - Respekt! Einen klassischen Westcoast Roadtrip haben wir letztes Jahr gemacht. Unser Sohn ist nun 10 und wir haben unsere Hochzeitsreise wiederholt und ihm diese großartige Landschaft gezeigt. Wir sind bis Mesa Verde gekommen und dann wieder zurück. Den Klassiker eben von SF - LA und dann alle National Parks. Jetzt wollten wir die Berge sehen, aber die Unsicherheit ist für nächstes Jahr einfach noch zu groß (Flüge etc.) Somit wird es bei uns wahrscheinlich erst: "Hello Denver 2022" heißen.

    • @FernwehChronicles

      Ja, super Trip, aber bis nach CA lässt es sich auch ohne Flüge machen. Wir haben uns diesen Sommer einen Camper zugelegt und haben hier schon so einiges die Gegend weiter erforscht... also “off the beaten path” bis nach Michigan und wieder zurück. 😅

    • @bradboustead1682
      @bradboustead1682 2 года назад

      Signs say no overnight "camping" so may not be able to sleep in car. Also, unless your body is used to it, sleeping at altitude can be difficult. It gets cold, and your heart pounds more than usual.
