Amazed that background beardie could be left on that shelf without it trying to kamikaze off the edge. beardie depth perception leaves a loooot to be desired lol
My gargoyle gecko impersonates a stick between two actual sticks. He's really bad at it because a) he's grey and they are brown and b) he's like 50x thicker then them and has a tail. Proceeds to freak the heck out when I see him. "I'm invisible!" lol
Mine will full on sprint into a wall. I'll be on my laptop and just hear a THUNK and there he is, up against a wall. I wonder about his intelligence sometimes....

I wanted to point out that they usually use Tazicef not because they don’t know what they’re doing, but there’s only 21 total medications deemed safe for use on reptiles. It’s the safest out of the antibiotics and usually effective. Just wanted to share my perspective as someone studying veterinary medicine.
As a vet tech - I agree. Reptiles and "pocket pets" have less medicine available. Hurts me to hear the non-trust in vets, but I get how it can be frustrating not having as many answers or treatments for reptiles.
Also I feel like him saying fecals are a waste of time and money just because the animal is older is unacceptable. They can provide so much more information than just if an animal has parasites or not. You can also see if there are gut micro flora (good bacteria that live in your gut) imbalances caused from nutritional issues. Also pets can get parasites from all sorts of things and in a case where the history is shady he shouldn’t just be dismissing that because who knows where these people got the very little food they gave this poor baby:/ he has such a big platform for him to be spreading distrust of veterinarians is hurtful. MOST vets are people who have dedicated there lives to helping animals.
Katie Kane the clinic I worked at did a fecal float and a fecal direct which looks at bacteria under the microscope for only $35 for both so it depends on the clinic. I still think it provides a lot of useful information to diagnose or rule out any health issues.
Slippery Salamander literally everyone that has no experience with birds say this. some birds scream during sunset and sunrise, but otherwise, trained birds only scream when they’re severely lacking something (attention, toys, food, water, room to stretch) the more important negative is the mess o.o oh god the mess
That's me. I'm getting home from school- my schedule feed the cat (my food or murder happens), mist the snake, take the snake outside, mist gecko, do homework, feed gecko... it goes on. Them- 300+ Me- Gets one more animal and passes out in math class XD XD
I started tearing up at the beginning. Seeing it so lifeless, weak, frail and unwell just got to me. It’s just a precious dragon. Thanks Alex for helping it get better and giving it good treatment.
@@meggomyeggo4077 lol yeah they can be I have 3 kids and that can be pretty messy. I was confused because I kept seeing comments saying baby beardies are gross so I was wondering what people meant
Yo I'm calling it now, he's going to get so fed up with every single vet that he come across, that since they now are a "small team" he's going to make his own vet clinic.
Thank you so much for taking her and helping her. When my sister and I took Ellie in she was pretty weak, like when you received her. I'm pretty sure she was an unresearched purchase in her previous family. I think they got her because "my daughter wanted a beardie so we got a beardie" and that was that, but no one took care of her. In fact, the only reason we knew Ellie was a girl was because I searched up how to sex beardies on google and hoped I was right (Since I've never done it) She had started to perk up after we fed her, she was actually quite energetic. She would go crazy when she saw the feeding chopsticks, my sister said Ellie was actually our best eater. (We have another beardie, and he is doing great!) And we always put calcium on her food, so that's probably why she doesn't have MBD. Then she started to relapse again, and it was just out of our hands. She would go to the darkest corner and lay there for hours. I tried to bathe her and then force her into the light, but she quickly retreated back to the corner. No vets around us looked at beardies, so we went online to find some powder to help her pass potential parasites. (Sense we really had no idea what was wrong) At that point, we had to force food down her throat. Nothing was changing and we knew she was beyond our help. I cannot truly express how much this means to us. Despite everything, I think she's really lucky to be saved by you guys. I'm truly excited to see how her future goes, and I'm even more pumped seeing all these comments wanting this sweetheart! Again, thank you guys so much for everything.
To be honest, I'm sure she wouldn't be where she is today without you and your sister being willing to take care of Ellie for at least a little while. You, too, deserve credit. :)
My ex had a beardy that he barely fed, watered, and he kept the lights on for it 25/7. When he would take him out he would go on about how chill he was. He wasn’t chill, he was dying. Once I got into the picture the beardy got better and became very sassy and barely wanted to be held. People get pets and don’t know what the hell they are doing and it frightens me
Pet stores shouldn’t be allowed to sell certain pets because sometimes staff members don’t know what the hell they are doing and are just there for a paycheck. When I was younger taking advice from a pet store staff killed my turtle years ago! Not to say this is everywhere I’ve been to pet stores where they are actually knowledgeable about the animals and advised against buying an iguana.
Birds are super delicate creatures and it's not always possible to see when something internal is wrong without xrays or bloodwork on ANY animal. Vets don't have a crystal ball. That being said, I am very sorry for your loss. :(
Are you sure it's wasn't stress your parakeet died from? I mean who knows 0-0 I'm probably wrong i don't have a very good background on your animals condition but i do know they are very sensitive to stress.
Great transformation! Just goes to show what proper care can do. Also the medicine situation is similar to Baytril and Metacam, it gets prescribed all the time, I wish I could bulk buy it but you need a prescription lol
It's honestly heartbreaking to see any reptile like this, I would love to start a reptile rescue of my own one day as we don't really have any in my area, so seeing this has only confirmed my desire to do so. I really hope Ellie continues to do better and finds an amazing home! I would take her if I could, I simply just don't have a vivarium right now 😅💕
I have been to vets where there has been blood or vomit smeared at the floor in front of their pay counter (where you inevitable have to walk with your dog). Or where there was blood or poop smeared or skin flakes with ripped out hair (might have skin fungus attached) still on the examination table and the vets told me to sit my pet on the table (which I of course refused). This has happened in multiple occasions. And when I mentioned I wanted them to clean that first, they rolled their eyes, got annoyed or angry.
And "fun fact" this is also like this with doctors (like for human). I just had a testing last week where I had to get a nose clamp on to only be able to breathe through my mouth. This nose clamp was made of rubber and had ridges. In these ridges there was brown crusts of skin flakes, dirt, skin fat or what not, because it was never cleaned. I could continue this, from doctors not wiping off nostril examination tools leading to infection one with green clumpy mucus disease, to hospitals where there is poop smeared on the walls and on the carts of the nurses leading to infections with MRSA. And I live in a high developed country in Europe. You will find crappy business everywhere.
@@insomniacraccoon These occasions were actually at two local vets and one veterinary clinic (in a different town). And a specialist for gastroenterology, a local hospital and a university clinic (three different towns). So this is a wide spread issue.
@@spuilloh2637 Its actually easier to produce and provide for insects. Sure it takes a lot of em. But it would be a pretty good alternative to most things if we farmed em in mass. Atm it takes way more room, resources and time to produce the same amount of calories in the form of current livestock than it would with insects. If you wanna go the route of vegetarian or vegan that's fine. Just un realistic route with our current population.
How incredible is it how a couple weeks of TLC made such a HUGE difference with miss Ellie! We had a similar situation with an Iguana who was kept in an all glass vivarium (if you could even call it that) with little to no air flow and absolutely no temperature control in the front of a bar, outside, being fed MAYBE once or twice every month. I had recieved a message from a friend asking if me and my husband wanted an Iguana. I was very iffy at first because I had little experience with Iguanas, however when he had explained the situation, my husband and I drove 3 hours to go pick up Coco. Coco was a five year old Iguana that was just over 3 feet from nose to tail. He actually was at the house next to the bar because the owner (of the bar) had asked the man next door to watch him while the bar underwent construction. When the bar opened back up when construction was complete, they never took Coco back (thankfully). The family we recieved him from had had him for just about a month before we were contacted. They had no experience with reptiles whatsoever but they did their best to research what exactly Coco needed. Unfortunately, we had coco for exactly a month before we were forced to euthanize him. We had taken him into the vet immediately after getting him and he was prescribed antibiotics (surprise! Tazicef) as well as some calcium/vitamin supplements. He had a toe that was deformed and a bit curly, and fearing the worst, they kept him under observation for a few days before sending us home with him with a strict diet and husbandry routine. He was doing well! His spines that were once gray and floppy were starting to look healthier and he was even getting more color on him! He was even finally warming up to us as much as cuddling with me while watching movies without trying to whip me with his tail before we noticed one morning that he was having trouble walking. We wrapped him up in some towels and blankets (mid january) and headed straight to the emergency exotic vet about an hour away. We gave them all the details of his enclosure, basking temperature, if he was eating/drinking, how often we would soak him, and what food/supplements he was taking. They informed us that he had endured poor conditions for far too long and that he had developed Metabolic Bone Disease. They told us that the best option for him would be to put him down. I was a wreck when this happened because I was starting to think he would pull through and live a healthy, long lizard life. I thought I was doing something wrong even with the vet reassuring me that we were doing everything right. Im sure there were things we could have done differently and that hurts me to this day, 2 years later. As much as I'm not a fan of Iguanas, I loved my Coco, and wouldn't trade my time with him for the world. It's just a shame that people (or businesses in our case) exist that could ever put a creature into a situation where the odds are against them. Bless you and everyone at Emerald Scales for being such wonderful people. We did file a report with the local (to the bar) police station and management was changed shortly after. We aren't sure if it was because of Coco, and nobody (to our knowledge) was charged with animal abuse/neglect.
Take solace in the fact that while you may not have been able to save Coco, you still gave him the chance to spend the end of his life in comfort, being cared for by people who loved him. You made a difference in his life, and let him pass as painlessly as possible.
I think it's safe to say your vets' have been giving you "generic reptile antibiotic" and just trusting that everything else will clear up on it's own once infections are treated / with the chance of infection causing complications in healing being significantly lowered. Not a necessarily a bad approach dependent on situation, but def sketchy if they aren't explaining "in this instance all we can do is treat/prevent bacterial infection and wait it out" when they go with that method. It's like a doctor prescribing penicillin every time you get sick or break a bone or have an upset stomach, provided you don't have a penicillin allergy. yeah, you significantly decrease the chance of dying from bacterial infection, but that's not always what we should be concerned about.
Even when you do have an allergy to penicillin you still sometimes have a doctor go "oops, give that prescription back, forgot you're allergic to penicillin"
A lot of what I used to do in wildlife rehab was actually domestic reptiles; especially beardies. There’s never a shortage of terribly cared for bearded dragons. :(
Hello Alex, I’m the previous owner of Ellie. I can’t thank you enough. I loved and love Ellie so much, and seeing her already getting back to your old self brings me to tears. I loved her so much, and I knew it was time when I brought her outside with me one day, and she could barely move. I couldn’t stop crying, and I believed it was all my fault. It likely was. I am a senior in highschool and my dad is deployed, and my mother and I don’t have much money, and there were no vets around that could help. I have another Beardie as well who is happy and healthy, and I just couldn’t figure out why, and I knew if I couldn’t provide for her, I needed someone else who could. And I have watched your channel for so long, and after trying different powders, and different home remedies for different things. I knew there was nothing else I could do. Thank you Alex, with all my heart. Thank you for helping my dear Ellie. Seeing her happy makes me cry tears of joy. Thank you!!!!!!!!
And, to anyone interested, I did NOT neglect Ellie. I did keep her in a 20 gallon which she came in, as when I got her, she was very sick and I didn’t want to change scenery, and I simply wanted to focus on her and getting her better. She did become lively and happy, but soon again became bad. And that is when I sent to you Alex. I just don’t wanna be attacked, but again. Thank you so much
Well, you knew when it was time to give her up to a new home that could get her back to being lively. It does hurt my feelings and make me a little upset to see it in that shape, but sometimes there is just nothing you can do. I’m glad you gave her to alex! If you still have your other, I wish you the best with their care!
This raises a question: How do you balance heating on an animal that is to ill to move? Like do you have a more strict on off cycle? or do you move her around the cage?
If they won’t move to regulate their heat you need to move them. So if she has been under the heat lamp for hours on end most definitely move her somewhere cool for awhile and vice verse
Our beardie is sick for a long time too, sadly we don't have a vet specilized in reptiles anywhere near us. We try to feed him daily or every other day, but it's forced. We should give him a bath more often though. He also gets his calcium and vitamines, hopefully at some point he will get better, or finds peace in bearded dragon heaven.
It seems like you have had some terrible vet experiences, please don't think that all vets are like this. I hope that you can find a reputable exotic animal vet in the future. (vet student 4th year probably going into the field of exotic animal medicine)
This kid clearly has a passion for reptiles and his non-profit rescue. Sense he is clearly unsatisfied with exotic pet vet's and is very knowledgeable already, i think he should go to school for exotics and become the type of vet he'd like to receive care from
I’m sorry you had a bad vet experience for your reptiles 😭 I work at a vet clinic as a tech and our exotic doctor is wonderful! I take all my reptiles to her and it eases my anxiety so much. I hope you find someone trust worthy and amazing 💕
Alex, I just want to say I absolutely love what you do and wish I could do as much as you do. I have 8 snakes (5 of which are rescues)! I have been a follower of GoHerping for a long time and it makes me so happy to see how far you’ve come! As soon as I get the means, I’m signing up for your Patreon because I love the work you do for reptiles. I actually work with a variety of animals for a living, but don’t get to interact with a lot of herps on the job so I’m very jealous!
I’m going to try my god damn hardest to adopt this baby once she’s ready. I’ve never felt so attached to a reptile I’ve never met. Especially a beardie. I need to be her mother.
Mmm, there's a similar quote that goes something like "you can judge a society by now they take care of the most vulnerable - the sick, the old and the animals"
Thank you for making this vid! I recently took in a couple of sick beardies, and one of them just wouldn't eat anything. I got a powder mix and tried syringe feeding that, but he still didn't look good, almost never moved, and wouldn't eat on his own. The vet didn't recommend (or prescribe) anything, and I was starting to think he was just too far gone. After watching this video, I made a dragon-friendly smoothie and have been syringe feeding him that for a few days... he's now eating insect feeders and greens on his own, is gaining weight and is active and alert! We've recently made some other changes too, but this video definitely helped save his life. Thank you! :)
have you thought about networking and reaching out to other people doing similar rescues/rehomes in other parts of america so if a sick animal needs care it doesn't have to risk getting shipped so far? I figure there are plenty of people out there who'd be willing to help! I'm glad this beardie is making a nice recovery and i hope she goes on to a loving home after all she's been through! It's so nice to see people putting in the work for all these little guys.
Seeing her walk around on your hands as you;re talking about the vet, is one of the most beautiful things I have seen in a long time. I know that sounds so silly but, the amount of care and love and effort that you have put into this creature is a direct reflection of how well she is doing now. I know that there's still progress to be made but, seeing her as good as she is now compared to how she was when you first got her, makes my heart happy
@Brian From The Rebellion While I don't go to bars, I do take my older beardie everywhere with me when the weather is right. Grocery stores, restaurants (he's well loved at our local Chipotle), Walmart, you name it. I'd be afraid of the bar with the loud music, though. Beardies' hearing is so sensitive. :(
@Brian From The Rebellion No, I said "While I don't go to bars..." I'm not Elle, the OP, who does take hers to bars. I was just replying to say I do take my beardie places people wouldn't think they'd be allowed. Sorry for the confusion.
@@Christi6746 OP here I haven't taken my boy any farther than my front yard on a harness. He's a spicy boy. I got him about a month ago and have fixed his husbandry and put a little weight on him. Now I'm just working on hand taming him. I don't think I'll be one to take him far from home but maybe one day
@@eekabee Sorry, Elle! I meant the OP of the first comment. I should have paid more attention to names (is it Friday yet?). HAHA Yes, Not Sure is the one who takes hers to the bar. And good luck with spicy boy! I have/had one of those myself. Once he went over the six-month mark, he miraculously calmed down enough to have a few car rides and visits places. Still WAY more skittish than my older beardie, but we're getting there!
What probably happened was that the person who went into the military took care of her quite well, but once they were gone, it was neglected by whoever was taking care of it afterward.
I admire your work. We have a bearer Dragon about 8 years old who was in the same condition as the dragon. We found veterinary assistance, and eventually nurses Cheeto back to health. The dragon on the shelf looks just like Cheeto. He has MBD and has a neurological problem (kinda like your spider morph snake). He is unable to eat by himself still. I hope that she is doing better!
Aurora Surrealis well the vet and him both think it’s a RI so systemic antibiotic is what is prescribed. It’s unfortunate that exotic veterinary science isn’t that advanced as for domesticated cats/dogs or humans. Plus who can afford to test for 1000 things? I understand his wariness of going to the vet at this point. He has much more experience with reps daily than the vet and I believe the vet is throwing options out there for him with the testing. I believe he has enough combined experience along with his partners to know when they need to take an animal.
Z O There’s also the fact that many things that work for cats or dogs just don’t work for reptiles, or are dangerous for them. Not many drugs can be used for them.
For tortoises it’s usually vitamin injections, which are extremely easy to overdose and can literally cause the skin on the injection site to slough off. No health benefits most of the time, either.
Taking that sweet beardie from the brink of death and loving on her is a wonderful thing your doing! So sorry you’re not in the Pittsburgh area. I have the most wonderful exotic vet ever! He saved my beardie, Lizzie by removing eggs she couldn’t pass. She also had several bouts of parasites that were stubborn to get rid of. He just last week had to force feed my not quite 3 month old Western hognose snake who hadn’t eaten in a month. Since then, he’s back to his normal routine on eating and being his hoggy little self! So, I’ve got a great vet!
Would love to see a tour of the new house, or just a quick show off of all the new animals if you get a chance! Great job so far always quality content :))
We just took in a bearded dragon, shes literally the same way right now. HELP!!! We are in California, I called around and since its sunday the reptiles vets are closed. I definitely am gonna blend her something to try and syringe feed her.
im literally going through this right now i saved this female beardie from a bodega shes barely moving.. im so scared shes going to pass away . cant get the vet until wensday i hope i can do it
Thanks so much for helping her! My bearded dragon is a rescue. I got him a few months ago. He is much happier now, as he was neglected before. He won't eat his veggies though. I think it's because he is going through shed BUT he will eat them blended up. So right now he loves his healthy veggie slurries. You have done such a good job for her! I just want to say thank for nursing her back to health. It's not an easy job helping reptiles get well again!
Alex, keep n mind that Dr's & vets will often do tests or prescribe just to satisfy the human. Sadly, these professionals have run n2 people that want SOMETHING so they do whatever seems to fit the situation even when they may think it's not completely necessary. They do this sometimes as well to simply justify the cost of the office visit when there really isn't anything they can do. Always tell the vet that u don't want them to do something just to make YOU happy. Tell them u only want their honest opinion even if it's just 'Theres really nothing I can do & keep doing what ur doing' I also think u r knowledgeable enuf at this point to refrain from running staight to the vet. Save that for when u have tried everything u know & the animal is still failing but u believe it still has a chance.
Ive got a wild caught beardie (she was poached, then kept in a government facility til I managed to acquire her) who was not quite as bad off when I got her as this lizard, but it did take me well over 3 months to get her eating properly....she was too sluggish to eat anything alive, it would just crawl away from her for instance. I ended up having to pry her mouth open and pop pre-packaged pellets in her mouth til she was strong enough to eat superworms....she also wouldn't eat greens for the longest time. Ive had her over a year now and she's doing great though.....hope your girl pulls through too!
Bro tazocef is a cephalosporin group antibiotics used for respiratory, digestive and for other diseases and ailments too ...so prescribing the same for various issues is no problem as at the end of the course the animal will get better (most animals)..
@@beastgamer07 Human die "either way" also. If you think that defends to put all elderly people from retirement homes in blenders, you should get some serious help.
How could someone be so cruel and let her get to that stage... it's heartbreaking. I praise you for helping her and not giving up on her. Because now she can get and feel the love she deserves.
Hey love your content man, came across you when I was doing research on leopard gecko care, been a fan ever since, great content and glad to see your still saving our scaly friends.
Unfortunately, I doubt you'll ever be able to find a really affordable vet. Medical care, for both animals and humans, is insanely expensive/overpriced. Sincerely, someone who's been diabetic since they were five
@@RedBizou lol we are where all the best doctors surgeons and specialists come to train and work. I'm SO willing to pay more for the best of the best from allllll over the world. :)
@@aimee8520 lol nice dream you have there. By the way "pay more" means paying thousands. That's not more. Even if you had the best doctors, which you don't always, what does it matter if people can't afford to go?
You guys are so wonderful. To take on these difficult cases, and work so hard to teach yourselves what you need to do. One more reason why your generation gives me hope for this planet.
I don’t know where your located but I work at pet supplies plus in Wilmington. We work with quite a few reptile rescues, and we use Paws and claws. An they’re GREAT!! We had the same problem finding a good reptile vet. But if u guys ever need donations. Don’t hesitate to reach out!!
What is the antiparasitic medicine called that you found on Amazon? I live in Alaska where exotic vets aren't very common and I have to drive hours to reach one.
This is what my beardie looked like when I got him!! He probably was in awful lighting and he definitely didn't have good nutrition. He has 4 fractures, 2 blistering bones, was diagnosed with MBD, and when I got him, he wasn't moving his back legs at all. Now he's raising himself up and gaining weight and scurrying his feet back and forth. We have him on a lot of calcium meds and he's happily eating. Thanks for sharing this resource so people can see not only how to rehab a beardie but also just how much damage is done without proper care.
The effort you put into saving this beardie is amazing. Thank you for bringing her back from the brink of death. She has intelligence in her eyes. She knows.
Yes she is adorable. I have an eight year old female and I love her to pieces. I also have a couple of enclosures that she and her boyfriend Paulo lived in a few years ago that I would love to donate to Emerald Scales. I live in Central New York. A bit of a drive from North Carolina but not too far. Finger Lakes region just beyond the PA border. Love the work that u do. Thank u.
Used to feel the same about Baytril myself... all our various sick, possibly sick, lots of different species and lots of different medical issues- everyone gets Baytril! Parrot, rabbit, mouse, guniapig hamsters, other birds, everyone gets the same! Which you can buy online for very little, and it certainly does feel frustrating to pay a vet $50 to look at and weight my animal and prescribe me Baytril- I did more checks for my parrot than my vet did. Not had the best experience of most vets either, but finally found a good one- unfortunately all most vets know about is cats and dogs, because that’s all they see day after day. Anything like a parrot or reptile is an “exotic species” and the chance is high if you have experience that you know more about the animal than the vet. But don’t give up Alex, I finally found a good vet after a dozen useless ones, and it does feel good to be able to have a second opinion and support from someone who actually knows what they’re talking about. You should try calling different places with a “problem” (maybe something you’ve dealt with in the past) and see how they respond, have a chat with the vet over the phone and get a feel for them before you go and make and appointment- that way you can try to “vet” the vet without paying a pointless charge to see what basic knowledge they might have and how they suggest handling your hypothetical situation. Glad to see this Beardie is doing better- great video, and hope you’re feeling better now too Alex. Don’t forget to take some time and save some energy for yourself and take care of your needs too 😊
I have 2 bearded dragons one of them is my baby he goes every wear with me I take him to my dogs vet appointments so a couple hours after one of my appointments the vet called me and asked if I left my bearded dragon there because they found one on a shelf in the store (the vet was in a pet store) I told them I didn't and they said that if I went and got her right away so I went and picked her up they told me she was healthy but scared so I set her up in a 40 gallon tank and feed her then I noticed she had MBD(metabolic bone disease)with proper care she got better (there isnt a way to cure it) now she can run and play with my other dragon. (So her previous owners gave up on her and didnt try to help her but in 2 weeks of me having her she was 10x better)
Ffs, creatures are not just novelty decorations!!! Each species comes with its own needs, and to deliberately just blatantly ignore those needs, or do just the absolute bare minimum is, and rightfully so, criminal. What part of " I'm a living creature that can THRIVE ..." is so alien to some "people" !? If you are not in the LEAST bit empathetic or compassionate or dedicated, PLEASE... just DONT! And if you're a sadistic little bastard, enjoy your time in a REAL cage, as increasingly animal abuse is becoming a punishable offence. YAY!
Gosh, the toughest part is finding this vet, like a doctor, I have CLD, I absolutely get it when no one understands, & full of bacteria infections, etc. I have felt the same with my dragon, it was so unbelievable, it absolutely makes me feel sad for his life... I’ve tried so much, that guy, he absolutely has a true purpose to fight through, I’ll see him through.
So glad you rescued her and that she's doing much better. Beardies are so sweet and I hate seeing them discarded. I hate seeing any reptiles discarded. It is a sad mindset that reptiles are so disposable. People need to learn from mistakes and not get any animal if they can't take care of them. ☹️ Thank you Alex for doing what you do! This made me cry out of sadness then out of joy. Reptiles are awesome and I'm glad you help change poor mindsets and that you care so much about the reptile community! Your enclosures are always awesome and you set such a great example for everyone!
This is 100% correct. Also, by licking the bug smoothie Alex has put himself at risk for pinworms which is the most common parasite that crickets carry.
My goodness man. I have watched you hit puberty and look at this... Jeez. You really brought this one back. This is insane... I just lost mine due to an aneurysm last week out of nowhere... Its amazing what you are doing little brother. I respect and appreciate your work. You rock dude.
Where I do understand some complaints about vets as a tech i hear complaints all the time that are can be valid or not. Where I do believe a lot of people know what they are talking about I hear about all these things people have googled and how they KNOW whats wrong with there animal, and in some cases they maybe right and i have no problem with people looking up their animals symptoms and mentioning it but just because you know something doesn't mean they shouldn't have and be charged for an exam and if an animal has not been seen a vet should not prescribe it. Not only is this a legality issue but we need to make a living just like everyone else. I'm not sure if that was the uncharged you mentioned but i thought it was worth mentioning.
Hi! I bought a captive born beardie, who at around 6-7 mths became lethargic. I only fed him captive bred insects/veggies. However, his stool sample did come back positive for pinworms. The Vet said that some crickets from big box pet stores had been carrying them lately. Just something to look out for!
At least my spiders don't stink, throw up everywhere, drool constantly, need to be fed every two hours, don't need vaccinations don't scream and cry,I will NEVER EVER have a baby. Plus the world is overpopulated anyway and I'm NOT adding to that. I might want a girlfriend, but if she wants a baby,it ain't happening.
@@bugloverspiderlover8490 I wish there would be more man like you... where I live, 90%of the ppl thinks that breeding like animals is the meaning of life....it's pathetic.

Good job
I mean people eat crickets bro it's not a big deal
I wanted to point out that they usually use Tazicef not because they don’t know what they’re doing, but there’s only 21 total medications deemed safe for use on reptiles. It’s the safest out of the antibiotics and usually effective. Just wanted to share my perspective as someone studying veterinary medicine.
As a vet tech - I agree. Reptiles and "pocket pets" have less medicine available. Hurts me to hear the non-trust in vets, but I get how it can be frustrating not having as many answers or treatments for reptiles.
Relienna I understand exactly how you feel!
@@justinec3072 only if they culture it. Most just do a float for ova & parasites. $70 is WAY too much.
Katie Kane the clinic I worked at did a fecal float and a fecal direct which looks at bacteria under the microscope for only $35 for both so it depends on the clinic. I still think it provides a lot of useful information to diagnose or rule out any health issues.
GoHerping: we've worked with about 300 animals at this point
Me owning one beardie: yea i'd say that's enough
Birdie or beardie? 😂
Dang birds are worse than Reptile IMO just because of the noise
Slippery Salamander literally everyone that has no experience with birds say this. some birds scream during sunset and sunrise, but otherwise, trained birds only scream when they’re severely lacking something (attention, toys, food, water, room to stretch) the more important negative is the mess o.o oh god the mess

People get pets and don’t know what the hell they are doing and it frightens me
Look how chill! He can't even move!
is he still doing ok?
Pet stores shouldn’t be allowed to sell certain pets because sometimes staff members don’t know what the hell they are doing and are just there for a paycheck. When I was younger taking advice from a pet store staff killed my turtle years ago! Not to say this is everywhere I’ve been to pet stores where they are actually knowledgeable about the animals and advised against buying an iguana.
Dump him
I was just given a beardie left for dead by previous tenants in a house they moved into. It spent multiple nights outside in freezing temps
The last vet I ever went to was for my little parakeet, they said nothing was wrong with him. He died two days later.
It's a real shame when the supposed bird savvy vet wasn't bird savvy enough
I'm so, so sorry. Birds can be tricky, they hide illnesses very well. An avian specialist would have thought to send off a fecal pap and cbc.
Birds are super delicate creatures and it's not always possible to see when something internal is wrong without xrays or bloodwork on ANY animal. Vets don't have a crystal ball. That being said, I am very sorry for your loss. :(
I’m so sorry for you!😿😿😿
Are you sure it's wasn't stress your parakeet died from? I mean who knows 0-0
I'm probably wrong i don't have a very good background on your animals condition but i do know they are very sensitive to stress.

Leopard Gecko im a big fan! any tips on eggs? my leopard gecko lay3d 2 recently
Hello!
It's honestly heartbreaking to see any reptile like this, I would love to start a reptile rescue of my own one day as we don't really have any in my area, so seeing this has only confirmed my desire to do so. I really hope Ellie continues to do better and finds an amazing home! I would take her if I could, I simply just don't have a vivarium right now 😅💕
that would be amazing! I can definitely give you some tips if you need them
My beardie is sick right now hes got roundworm but it's not doing to much bad to him
🤢 omg they used the same tongue depressor too when they could have had an infection? Agh!
You need to find a new vet + doctor. That's just disgusting...

Poor Coco :( that is horrible but you did what you could
I love you. ***HUGS***
Check out TYTs mascot, Mariguana. He was found wandering around outside & is now the MOST pampered guy ever. Has his own socials.
Take solace in the fact that while you may not have been able to save Coco, you still gave him the chance to spend the end of his life in comfort, being cared for by people who loved him. You made a difference in his life, and let him pass as painlessly as possible.
No way I'm reading all that, I'll assume you did something amazing and deserve praise, and here it is
I think it's safe to say your vets' have been giving you "generic reptile antibiotic" and just trusting that everything else will clear up on it's own once infections are treated / with the chance of infection causing complications in healing being significantly lowered.
Yep. Although, I'm not allergic to it, but it does make me throw up.

Thank you so much
Kotomoori if this is the truth, I respect your decision to do what is best for Ellie and I’m also so glad to see she is going so much better 💕💕💕

What probably happened was that the person who went into the military took care of her quite well, but once they were gone, it was neglected by whoever was taking care of it afterward.
I feel like this bearded dragon and I are destined for eachother.
Vet: Shoot, I have no idea what this is let's use baytril or tazicef.
Cortisol at my vet for literally any sick cat or dog. "Could be terminal, could be allergies... lets just try cortisol."
For tortoises it’s usually vitamin injections, which are extremely easy to overdose and can literally cause the skin on the injection site to slough off. No health benefits most of the time, either.
(69th like btw)
Taking that sweet beardie from the brink of death and loving on her is a wonderful thing your doing! So sorry you’re not in the Pittsburgh area. I have the most wonderful exotic vet ever! He saved my beardie, Lizzie by removing eggs she couldn’t pass. She also had several bouts of parasites that were stubborn to get rid of. He just last week had to force feed my not quite 3 month old Western hognose snake who hadn’t eaten in a month. Since then, he’s back to his normal routine on eating and being his hoggy little self! So, I’ve got a great vet!

Tell them u only want their honest opinion even if it's just 'Theres really nothing I can do & keep doing what ur doing'
I also think u r knowledgeable enuf at this point to refrain from running staight to the vet.

I received a beardie in similar condition, and sadly he didn't make it. I'm thrilled to see Ellie making such a great recovery.
I’m so glad you could save her! She is so OwO, I hope she can live as long as possible!
Sans Undertale fair enough
Sad to see what a state she arrived in but a joy to see how well she recovered. Hope her poor condition hasn't affected her lifespan too much..
Crickets: what is this...wait. No..NO. TELL MY STOooorryyyyy...
You just picked up another sub (my daughter and I were really impressed by what you have done for this precious baby... you have a gift!!)
Unfortunately, I doubt you'll ever be able to find a really affordable vet. Medical care, for both animals and humans, is insanely expensive/overpriced. Sincerely, someone who's been diabetic since they were five
Sounds like you live in the US. If so, I'm sorry for how that system is ❤️
@@RedBizou lol we are where all the best doctors surgeons and specialists come to train and work. I'm SO willing to pay more for the best of the best from allllll over the world. :)
@@aimee8520 lol nice dream you have there.
By the way "pay more" means paying thousands. That's not more. Even if you had the best doctors, which you don't always, what does it matter if people can't afford to go?
@@RedBizou I couldn't possibly gaf about you or wherever you're from. Please Please please always stay there 🙏 bless!
@@aimee8520 lmao i wish vets in the US were the best-
You guys are so wonderful. To take on these difficult cases, and work so hard to teach yourselves what you need to do. One more reason why your generation gives me hope for this planet.
My mans over here blending live crickets then tasting it like a damn psycho 😩
You are truly amazing! The care and time you put in to save these animals blows my mind. I so wish there were more people in the world like you.
She knows.
Someone at Emerald Scales should just get a vet licence so they can be the vets they want in the world.
Thank u.
Hi Alex, whats the oldest beardie you've worked with? My girl just turned 13 and going strong!

It's actually very common for beardies to get parasites even from captive bred insects.
This is 100% correct. Also, by licking the bug smoothie Alex has put himself at risk for pinworms which is the most common parasite that crickets carry.
Where'd you learn that? Asking so I can learn more about it too, thank you for sharing!
My goodness man. I have watched you hit puberty and look at this... Jeez. You really brought this one back. This is insane... I just lost mine due to an aneurysm last week out of nowhere... Its amazing what you are doing little brother. I respect and appreciate your work. You rock dude.
Just watching the crickets violently get shredded was entertaining
Just two weeks of care helped it get back to health that shows how much bearded dragons connect to us and understand us
"Babies are gross, beardies are not." As a mom of 2, I can verify lmao
The yellow lining around her eyes is amazing!
When you don't give your bearded dragon supplements
Awww I’m crying I would never want this to happen to my beardie! Thank you so so much for saving this amazing beardie !
“Babies are gross”
You are not wrong
At least my spiders don't stink, throw up everywhere, drool constantly, need to be fed every two hours, don't need vaccinations don't scream and cry,I will NEVER EVER have a baby. Plus the world is overpopulated anyway and I'm NOT adding to that. I might want a girlfriend, but if she wants a baby,it ain't happening.
@@bugloverspiderlover8490 I wish there would be more man like you... where I live, 90%of the ppl thinks that breeding like animals is the meaning of life....it's pathetic.
B- DAWG I don't want a baby.
