20lb braid to 25lb fluro leader. Small 1 circle hook through the nose free lined. If fishing deeper, bite the bottom part of the tail on the greenback. Chum the waters with squished greenies as others have mentioned. Cast as close to the mangroves as you can or even skip one under (i know you're good like that). If you see a hit on one of the chummers, reel in and cast to it as fast as you can. Im in tampa and this is all we do for snook, reds and even trout. Love the content, dont listen to the haters. You've worked hard and are living a life many would dream of. Myself included. Tight lines man
Thank you!
Idk I’ve had way to many big snook chew threw 40lb leader. I only use 50 now and that seems to be the one they can’t get threw
Same here in the Jupiter / West Palm Beach area. Bigger leader off the jetty’s and beach when they’re running.
20-30 lb flouro with 4/0 circle hook with a loop knot inside
Nice info. St. Pete native here!
Arron you really struck a cord with me when you talked about bobber fishing. It’s how my grandpa got me into fishing when I was 5 years old. It’s old school, it’s classic, it fun. Love your philosophy.
@19:40 into video 😊😊😊😊 Outstanding camera work. ARRON is alone yet fished and had his drone in action at same time❤❤❤
Great shot
My favorite type of fishing. A livewell full of white baits along the coast
For sure!
Must be on the west coast, ‘cause those guys on the east coast get upset when we call them white bait and not pilchards. 🤣
Snook is one of the few fish I’ve never eaten
If I knew how to catch one we could.
@@KeyWestWatermanchum w the pilch
Just don't cook it with the skin on or you will find out why they call them "soapfish".
I think they're one of the best...bake it slow covered in crush Ritz crackers, butter, and some everglades seasoning...thank me later
@@elmopootkiss4699yup… Be sure and remove skin or you’ll never want to eat one ever again. 😂
Just a tip from an inshore charter captain who snook fishes nearly daily. Snook have a larger bottom jaw short top jaw designed to get under bait and eat upwards. You want your bait on the surface or near it. It would be effective if you took the jig off and just used a flat line weightless J or circle hook whatever you prefer 👍🏼 also chumming helps them get fired up. Squeeze a few baits in your hand and toss them out helps them get going
Thanks for the tip! 🙏🏻
Hey Aaron. I think you've done a great job with your videos these past few years. It's been fun to watch as you've navigated your channel to reflect who you are and what you want to share with the world. You come across the screen as having a really good vibe and I can't understate how much I appreciate the mindfulness, care, and respect that you consistently give to our natural resources. I'm glad that there came a day that you decided to start sharing your voice on youtube. Thank you.
Can’t thank you enough for that. I’m figuring it out as i go. These keep me going 🙏🏻
Live chumming can get the snook to really turn on. Get about a half dozen in your bait net and give them a good squeeze to disorient them. Then toss them to the spot. They’ll usually swim in circles on the surface……you’ll see the “Pops”. Then you toss in your hooked bait. We use fat wiffle ball bats with the end cut off to sling the chummers to the mangrove edge.
Edit: LOL…you just tossed out some freebies after I posted.
We talking the jumbo size wiffle ball bat?
@@mikewest712
Yeah, jumbo with the fat end, and cut the very end off at an angle. Whips bait a mile. They sell them pre-made at tackle shops around my area.
Tossing squeezed wb up near the mangroves and watching the snook pop them on the surface is about as much fun as catching them 😎. Put a 2/0 or 3/0 circle in one and try to keep that snook out of the mangroves! 😛
As soon as you catch all that bait you're ahead already big time. Great great job
Haha
So entertaining!! You finally did a Snook video...even though no Snook I was loving it. Was absolutely laughing so hard. 1st "I gotta get my bait into that little hole in the Mangroves...easy enough"....waiting to see a perfect skip cast because I know my bait would be stuck in the Mangroves. Cut to next scene...Parked in the hole! 😂😂😂.
Also "a sure fire way to catch a big fish is not to be prepared for it".😂😂😂.
Also loved hearing you talk while the drone was filming. That was cool.
One of my favorite shows! Beautiful scenery, the fish were a bonus! Looking forward to viewing more of these episodes Capt Dibs
So cool how you almost always have the water to yourself...that's the way I fish...back in those out of the way places...that's why there's so many fish there...no people
Ourselves.
Thanks for all the school you are giving us true you videos I'm a happy man thanks to you God bless America and you.
What a cool spot. Nice to get out of the wind and waves and enjoy the calm waters. The aerial video really looked great.
Love the drone perspective you've added. Tidal mangrove 'creeks' like that are my favorite places on earth to fish.
Ahh those tarpon are tricky, you must “bow to the king !!!!” These really make me enjoy my Mondays so much more, Thank you sir for what you do! Triple thumbs up from me! 👍👍👍👏🤙
Finally a snook video! Man I’ve been waiting to see you get on some. With that bait you shouldn’t even use a weighted hook for snook, just free line with a nice sized circle hook my guy. And you’d be surprised lol that 8000 reel is exactly what you need, tight lines!
I’ve always had the best luck free lining the pilchards here in St. Pete…. Snook are some of the smartest fish in our area for sure! Would definitely like to see you have a catch and cook with Clams on this one!
Try cruising a line of mangroves with a trolling motor while blind casting jigs or even flies into the shady spots. The more logs and trees down, the better. It enables you to cover more water and find fish. Great content!
Florida living is the best!! I wouldn't live anywhere else!
Love it!
Amen brother
On a sunny day fish the deep mangrove shadows. Snook don't particularly like bright light. Late in the evening or very early mornings are best in the shallows.
Drone footage is 1000% on point! Very calming, yet exciting 👊
just got snow again here in my town over the weekend, so I appreciate these vids you share! looks like a nice weekend coming up so Ill hit the local lake. should be a high of 55 so nice and warm!
Haha hard to believe!
One of the best openings of all your videos IMHO! WOW is right with all that sweet live bait!!
I liked this one! Super chill vibes and the beautiful drone shots complimented by your live well sounds and just basic fishermen talk was nice!
Stay at it!
Not sure what I like more.. the boat, how relaxing the video is, or the crazy amount of bait AND fish in that spot! Excellent video! I’m really liking how chill your channel is and how honest you are. Good stuff!
I absolutely love this channel and look forward to every one.....THANK YOU!
When it comes to hooks, I had to learn the hard way by losing fish and not knowing why, my hooks were dull.
I'm not saying yours are but you might want to check them.
I personally thought this was a fantastic video, I was able to transport myself to the keys, tranquility, peaceful, serenity thank you for taking us along, do you to hell with everyone else, enjoy your life with your wife and hopefully children are in y'all's future, we need more people like yourself, many thanks for sharing your life 👍👍😎
Enjoy the live bait stuff! Always satisfying starting the day w a cast net
I visited a friend in FL and he took me Snook fishing on the southwest coast. I had never seen a Snook and it was like hunting for them around the mangrove islands. I was fortunate to catch two over 30 inches. We did not keep them.
Good production value
Beautiful scenery
I'd never live anywhere but this state
Snook are top water or midwayer feeders. Better off using the light mono. With small wide gap hook and fish it about mid depth what ever depth your fishing. Now when fishing bigger snook you can free line a live bait and it is like crack. Night fishing for them any white jig works well.
Thanks for being conscientious and taking all those pilchards back to be with their buddies.
Brother, I’ve fish for snook over 40 years in Florida. My go to rig is a Penn Slammer 5000 on a custom rod I had built in Ft Laud. Go to bait is either croakers/pin fish/finger mullet, larger bait = larger fish. Generally I run 40# braid w/30# flouro leader, 5/7 circle hook. Movin water add 1/2-3/4oz egg. Hope it helps a little
Awesome video! Loved the drown action! Nice work! It is beautiful there! ❤
Some really beautiful spots you fished! Really enjoyed those drone shots 👍
Another day in paradise! Great views of that beautiful area. At least it's warming up.
Great day on the water! I love going out by myself like that even if I don’t catch much it’s a great time 😎
Excellent drone footage once again , what beautiful spot.
I've been enjoying your videos for a very long time man thank you very much for allowing me to watch you man I appreciate you❤
The elusive Snook! My favorite eating fish. The crux is not only their power, but their razor gill plates will slice through light mono in a heartbeat, and they're weary of heavy line and unnatural presentation. Best presentation I've found is freeline. For open water beach swaths your tackle is great but heavier is necessary around structure for slots or bigger. I'm convinced they know you can't spear them. They gather in schools and laugh at you as you get close enought to almost pet them.
Beautiful drone footage. Sure would like to see you diving in those same places. The mangrove dives are my absolute favourite!
Enjoy watching your videos, it takes me back to my younger days back in FL. I fished mostly off the Boyton Beach Jetty. Our favorite bait back in the day (80's) for Snook was small crocker or small Mojarra, Like 4-5". Snook is probally one of the best tasting fishes. I also caught then on live Shrimp in Puerto Rico when I was really young
That's it, simple and amazing! Please make more videos just like this one, featuring live bait (catching, talking, chilling), and then fishing with those baits to catch some nice fish. All the best to you, my friend.
Fished snook for twenty plus years by my self at night in Fort Lauderdale in the evening was my most productive time around bridges high tide going out pier 66 area . Great fish to catch used mirror lure and whit buck tails along with live finger mullet . In hr or two catch my limit keep 5 pounders throw back bigger ones this would feed my mom and grandmother as they loved them . Caught from 30+ pounders to 1 pounders always an exciting catch! They spook easily and found night time was more productive that’s why I fished alone after sunset ! Enjoy your videos brings back my younger experiences fishing in Fort Lauderdale!
Brent here from Corpus Christi TX. Just moved here from AZ, my two sons and I have gotten into spearfishing and love your content. Weve been snorkel spearing on the inshore rigs. Maybe one day we will be able to free dive to 45 feet. Thanks for the inspiration.
Nice work. Just a chill time fishing. Great scenery.
Enjoyed the video! That's why they call it fishing and not catching. Up the road in Bradenton/Sarasota area we chum heavy and frequent with live bait to get the fish active. We "numb" the bait with a moderate "squeeze" before we toss them out. Helps to slow them down and create a state of confusion. Cheers!!
Love that lil boat.😊
It’s a blast
The best thing about Monday is @ 6:00 when your video comes out. Another great video.
“Drop the baits back where I found them”. That makes the world a better place
🙏🏻
A camera angle to see all the underwater action swimming by the boat would be awesome!!!
Excellent vid man. Love your location. I get down to choko and flamingo once in a while and spent a lot of time growing up in the upper keys. I have yet to get into the areas you frequent. Love it!
Great video as always. Most of my days fishing are like that and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Thx for showing us!
MaaaN I absolutely love the back country stuff appreciate it again my dude!!!!
You don't have to catch a thing to have a great day, good for the soul just to be out there. Appreciate your work and recipes too. Tater says hey
I always enjoy watching your content. Great relaxing fishing day.
I like jacks that size for ceviche.
They really absorb the citrus and the meat firms up real nice.
I like to have a dish that each fish can be used best in… Just in case I don’t catch what I’d prefer.
Light as possible tackle. We generally use 10lb braid 20-25lb leader. Free line shrimp or green backs. No lead or jig necessary. Snook are very smart and extremely tackle shy
Dibs on the bobber?!?! Love it!!!😊
Great video… try without a jig head next time, free line a small circle hook or if it’s a deeper channel try a small weight with 2ft or so of 25-30# leader. Love these videos
Great video and drone action awesome!!!
Once again, a terrific video Aaron! Loving what you do and I look forward to Tuesday mornings here in the UK. Working on a plan for me and my speargun to come to the Keys next April - can't wait! Florida Tourist Board should be paying you!
Try hooking your bait under the back fin or under his pelvic fin. I guided for snook and redfish for many years. I like 30# floro leader and 2/0 hook. Add a slip 1/8 egg sinker to slide down on top of the hook. Throw a few crippled baits out from the mangroves to bring the fish out to you...your trip looked like a lot of fun...btw: I had my first date on a snook trip at night at the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River...she caught fish and always wanted to go again!
Found your channel about a week ago... I think I've watched all your videos so far. Huge supporter of you and the way you go about your craft! I've fished my whole life fresh (Michigan)/ salt (NorCal), but never gotten in with a spear... your motivating me to try, but idk if its any good around the Bay Area... Thanks again for all the good videos man! Bob Ross of fishing!
I'd definitely like to see more Snook, Tarpon, and Bone's... especially where you are located.
I always snook fished late at night. Just a fat shrimp with a hook. No leader, swivel, jig, etc nothing. Just free float a fat shrimpy top water with like 20-30 lb line and cast on the shadow line of a bridge or catwalk. I grew up in St Lucie County and that's really the only thing I miss about fla is the salt water fishing. I trout hunt now lol but they're an apex pred so they are always found with big tarpon and cuda jacks etc
In central Florida love the action. Creak fishing kinda the same..😊
I heard somewhere years ago that they think there are 2 different groups of snook the Big Guys that move offshore or the Sea Snook and then the snook who move inland and up the rivers n creeks ,,,,,Im from Naples / Bonita Springs and we have Snook that are way up the Rivers even East of I75 and also there are certain ponds n lakes that may have a access pipe ir cut to a river and there are Snook in these ponds even on Golf Courses !! Im a pretty much inshore guy so I've never went after the Offshore snook in the wrecks / reefs but i know they are there and they are definitely the Big Bruiser Snook!!! Snook is my Favorite Fish 💯 to catch and eat of course!!!
nice to see you againg waterman
🙏🏻
IHMO snook is one of the best tasting fish and one of the best fighting fish as well pound for pound.
I do recall about 4 years ago when we were up in Hillsborough and I caught that small snook you mentioned you've never caught one before.
Did a video with that same live bait chumming method about 12 years ago in Jamaica ,that was my first RUclips video😊people have to release that method is one of the most effective in mongrooves to get the fishes all fired up and catching after that (once they are there ) is pretty easy.
Great video 👊🏽😎
Greetings from one of ur long time fans from Jamaica 🇯🇲🇩🇪
I enjoy every one of ur videos 💪🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Tarpon sure do put on a show! Quick tip: When he jumps give him some slack by sticking your rod out toward him as far as you can. They call it "bowing to the king"! Beware though, fishing for them can become an obsession. Fun stuff!
Try one of the baton-type bait launchers when you get into that much bait. You can send the greenbacks a mile and to a precise spot with those things, really gets them fired up.
Good stuff buddy! I live in PA sadly, would give my left leg to do what you do all time. I truly look forward to every episode!
Amazing how nature works!😊
It really is!
Snook are tricky, they often only feed for a little while when the tide us just right. It's cool to see you trying to catch them. I recommend you try live bait with no weight or very little weight, and cast up tide. Let it drift as naturally as possible.
You definitely need lighter line, I'd use 10 lb. I caught 100s on 6 lb mono in Sarasota on the beaches. Your bait needs to look very natural, and you want small hooks. And about 25 lb leader. That's how I would start there.
I caught my first slot snook in season last weekend. I highly recommend you eat one if you can catch a slot there phenomenal, don't cook with skin on. I recommend using a paddle tail or a top water in morning and evening. 3000 series reels are fine.
Cool spot! Drone shots are nice.
Just like you're fishin' in the Back Country with that pass through!!😎
Cuzy! The snook were piled up at the Man Key patch reefs this Sunday. Schools of 30 plus (in number) and 30 plus inches in length.
I live line peanut bunker(basically pilchard) up in jersey for striped bass, I imagine it's similar to live lining for snook. I go light leader (15- 30 depending on clarity) and tiny 3/0-6/0 octopus hook. I hook the bait either behind the anal fin which makes it swim up or behind the dorsal fin which makes it swim down and it'll swim where it needs to go.
Really great editing on this one man!
Such a funny video, nice to see you have fun like this, wish I could be with you goofing around on the boat ;)
Popping cork near the mangroves. Never gill a Snook...razor blade in the gill.
9:57 ok that cut was hilarious 😂
If you were to try that again may I make a suggestion? Ditch the jig head and go with a small live bait hook. Freeline if there is little to no current or a split shot in moving water but only heavy enough to get the bait to the bottom. Place the split shot about 18'-24" up from the hook. If you were to try this again.
Quick snook tip: they respond to live pilchard chum very well. Snook are about as finicky as a fish can get, and live chum will usually wake them up. Also curious how most if not all guides in Key West use jig heads with live or dead pilchards. Definitely a local thing, but you guys have always been top producers for clients, and will keep doing what works. Enjoy your humility and outlook.
Prayers thanks 😊
It's my favorite fish to eat. We used to kill it gettin' after snook in Anna Maria. Nothing is the same since the red tide hit really badly in 2018. Not to mention catching a keeper.
Great video..
Thanks for sharing.
well edited and filmed, fun to watch.. would have liked to see how a snook cooks up, another time.
thank you! next time for sure
Love the drone views with audio.
Never caught bait and fished same area, tarpon and snook very similar habits ( very smart fish) great sporting fish both of them .
Fish snook at late night in the shadows of bridges and piers, quiet quiet ! Snook tend to sit in the shadows of lighted docks and bridges .
This was as good as watching someone catfish, ho hum day, can't believe I watched to the end.
Great video brother, glad you’re keeping it real all the time man, my respect 🫡
I’ve been watching your channel for quite some time and I’ll have to tell you that was one of your best.. maybe not loaded with action but quality video and great narration!! Fine job!!
