My wife is on her 3rd. /// 2011 Citadel hemi, 2015 Citadel hemi, 2018 SRT. Great family vehicle. Goes like a bandit. Great seats in the SRT....better than the Citadel seats we had in past.
matie, I looked at R/T and an SRT Durango along with the Jeep siblings and all of the V8's demonstrated lifter noise which caused me to buy. What has been your experience reliability wise?

It's a SRT, I dont exactly think elegance was the goal. But still the GT, R/T and SRT are by far the best looking Durangos. Ditching the chrome and matte black plastic makes it look so much better, and it stands out in this class that way.
Interestingly, before the SRT came out, the Citadel (full of chrome) was my favorite. I still like the look of it, though I agree with you 100% on the GT, R/T, and SRT being the best lookers now.
Alex .. good video .. i would love to see a video of how you set this up for towing .. i.e. hooking up the hitch, setting up the trailer brakes etc. Keep up the awesome work.

I have an older Citadel. This is an absolute contender for my money. However, I'd like a few more features for the price range.
1) Pano sunroof from the other FCA vehicles.
2) Heated/cooled cup holders from other FCA vehicles.
3) Larger infotainment screen from RAM.
4) Heads up display.
5) Updated camera system (360 view in example).
The uncrowded 3row king - Durango.

Great job, Alex. I'd have added a few details that you neglected, such as endurance. Durango R/T's larger tank means more distance between fills compared to Explorer. You also forgot that new Explorer is RWD based like Durango. Also neglected to explain that pickup truck body-on-frame is somewhat better insulated from trailer banging than Durango's unibody. This is a point you HAVE made in previous videos. BTW - did you ever put the SRT wheels/tires onto your Citadel? If so, did you have to change caster? Did you also install Brembos?

The comparison of explorerST to DurangoSRT has the explorer better in all categories except speed times. Explorer even uses regular fuel as opposed to premium.

Question i always have is why the charger and Durango are nearly identical in price from v6 to v8 except for some reason there’s a 10k jump with the Durango over the charger for the 6.4. Yes it has 3 rows and add, but so does the 5.7 which is priced similarly to the charger
It’s strangely underserved market, the guy that needs to tow 6000-8000lbs. Very few non pickup truck vehicles do this, and most pickups are overkill and expensive. The Durango and the Gladiator are real standouts when it comes to towing.

Tow a 30 foot travel trailer with my Expedition EL. I can't of anything that does it better. Durango is nice, but I needed more seats.

Upgraded from a cherokee to the same vehicle. Only thing i would consider after this is a GLS or wagoneer.

One point. In your Explorer ST video you call it the "mustang of suvs." Doesn't the explorer have a lower center of gravity than the Durango?
I recommend looking up videos where they take the Durango SRT and Explorer to the track.
That will give you a much better idea. Both are very good on a track and very fun. Both of them have a low center of gravity for an SUV. SRT which is street racing technology has undoubtably made the Durango a great track car as you will see. I haven’t heard much on the Ford for being a track car more just a fast SUV.
Also if you look at resale value you can buy a RT Durango with the electronica dash and touchscreen For $41,000 or less depending on the month you buy it with the discounts.
I’ve seen them with 108,000 miles get a trade-in value of $22,500 and sell for $26,000
Dodge will undoubtably have a better resale value which will save you thousands in the long run. Not to mention that how many sound is unmatched and by far a tougher looking vehicle

I had a 98 Durango SLT you would love . 4x4 , 318/5.2 , around 270 HP and still get a solid 24 MPG , lowered 3 ichhes and a few more goodies to make it win 15 car show 15 times .

My 14 SRT Jeep goes 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds with the same engine and all wheel drive.
@@SteelTimeify Is 3/10ths considered "dramatically faster"? That was my point, every FCA vehicle with this power train goes 0-60 in ROUGHLY 4.5s - from the Challenger, to Charger to Jeep to Durango. It isn't like there is a car in the FCA lineup with this powertrain that does 0-60 in sub-4 time.
@@rkalla I can tell the difference, especially as the vehicles speed increases to highway speeds. Regardless, it all depends on what the individual car buyer cares about and what his needs are. An extra 3rd row seat or faster acceleration.
I’ve done multiple 4.2 0-60 runs in my DDSRT and on the Durango forum I check out that seems to be the norm, even Dodge says its 4.4 to 60 so not sure why he got such a slow time
I’ve had my DDSRT for about a year and a half now and have never seen over 15mpg (heavy foot) and have gotten 4.2 0-60’s multiple times, I’m at sea level on Long Island though so maybe that has something to do with it

Can you do a head to head versus the Aviator grand touring?
If your talking performance you dont want the test if you want the aviator to be quicker.
5.5 0-60 and 14.2 quarter mile for Aviator. Durango 0-60 4.5 and quarter mile 13.2

I like big, solid, functionally designed cars like this. Looks comfortable too. But this cars didn't do well in crash test plus that kind of fuel consumption is crazy for this time and age unless other people are footing the gas money. 2nd row seats folds down with head rest touching the floor doesn't meet sanitary standards.

9 MPG towing nearly 7k is pretty dang good, that all my 2007 Gmc 2500 with the 6.0 got pulling the same load
Have to wonder if they fixed the problem with the engine bay heat de soldering the computer board very scary when you get the bus code and lose all power even breaks it's even better when you're driving at high speed on highway and everyone is stopping but you drag the wheel to the left hope no bridge is in front of you and pump the brakes ya I have a 2000 Durango in front of my shop i can't drive or sell it way too dangerous if you buy one new or used install a better heat shield before you learn what I have

The SRT looks pretty bloated compared to the normal Durango which really annoys me. I like the look of the normal Durango. I think it’s sleek and sexy, but the added kit in the front makes it look pretty chonky
I think FCA either lied or they bribed the DOT? I remember srt used to have around 1180 pounds payload for 2018, and that's why I bought 2018 r/t with 1390 pounds payload capacity. I know 2020 d srt have the same gvwr, how can this beast lost 400 pounds weight (400 lbs more payload) magically without major change?
for the srt, in 2018 the max payload was 1350, for 2019 it went up to 1590 (with a 600lb gvwr increase). So whatever they added in suspension and breaks probably added the extra gvwr. Also it was only a 240 payload hike, which with a 600 gvwr increase means 360lbs were added to the vehicle
@@james2042 it's in official Dodge Durango specs website. rt weight 5380 payload 1390 gvwr 7100. Srt weight 5510 payload 1590 gvwr 7100. Not sure how they did the calculation but it's way off
@@yuzeyang8847 5510+1590=7100, so that calculation is correct. How the hell they got a 7100 gvwr on the RT with a lower curb weight and payload is beyond me though, maybe it has something to do with the tow capacity and the vehicle needing to be a certain gvwr to tow 7200lbs. Or maybe the payload is 1720 on the 2019 durango rt and they just typed the wrong payload into the thing.
@@james2042 I know right, I also checked 19 rt have 1300 lbs payload from Dodge website. All these numbers are weird and inconsistent.
I think you chose the better trim with the 5.7 R/T. I understand you putting such an emphasis on towing when trying to justify getting a SRT. If you could get by with 5600 lbs of towing, I think the Explorer ST is much more refined, every day livable, and a good bit cheaper. The V8 noise is great when you are having fun, but would get old quick when trying to talk or listen to some tunes.

I personally have been really disappointed with the Explorer and it's towing capability with the move to RWD. A Nissan Pathfinder with CVT and NA V6 can out tow it by 400lbs...

Marcus Scott they refreshed it in 2015 and most cars have a five-year refresh so it should be any year now.
At the same time compare this to eight Toyota, Subaru, Honda, even Tahoe. And you’ll see it has nicer materials at a cheaper price
Not to mention most awarded and easiest to use touchscreen of all time as well as being partnered with the most awarded SUV ever the jeep. So by modern standards it’s actually still very luxurious and up to date.
Look at 8:20 15 or 2016 Mercedes or Audi and they weren’t that’s nice really up until last year
The new Durango is getting enbiggened, it (along with the upcoming Jeep Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer) will be based on the current Ram 1500 chassis, body on frame, sometime around 2022. The Grand Cherokee is "shrinking" by moving to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio platform about the same time.

Jeep also sold a quarter million grand Cherokee’s last year. Dodge Jeep and RAM sold over 2 million vehicles last year in the United States alone. I think they’re doing very good considering they came out with more technology than any other brand in 2011 then again but nice and materials in the car than even Mercedes in 2015 and was just recently beat out by the luxury car brand in the last two years but those cars are double the price
@@chadhanson4369 It'll be somewhere around Acura MDX or BMW X3 sized, and should be better positioned in terms of features, performance, handling, styling and luxuries to take on the Japanese/Korean imports, and the lower end of the Euro imports in that category.
The Compass and (non-Grand) Cherokee are entry-level Jeeps, and they give FCA dealers something besides a Dodge Journey they can sell in or under the $20k price range to hit that magic $400/month payment range. Their small size is just a by-product of their design goals, to make a cheap SUV.

I always liked the Durango but worry about reliability. How has your Durango held up in terms of reliability?
I know you weren't asking my opinion but FCA reliability isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I have a 2015 grand cherokee summit, my mother has a 2018 gt Durango and an 05 magnum she bought in 04. Aside from regular maintenance we haven't had any issues. If you go back and watch some of Alex's old live streams he states that reliability metrics are funny.
If you have a squeak in the cabin , an issue with fit and finish or an issue with the infotainment system that goes against reliability. The vehicle always starts and doesn't just fall apart like some people make it out to seem. Alex even stated that the Japanese equivalent may not have as many reliability issues but you dont get any wiggle room with the price adversely with American vehicles get much better deals but if there are any maintenance issues they actually balance out with cost to own.
I have a 2015 Limited V6 AWD. 48k miles. Owned since 6k. Have had several build quality issues, oil leaks, turn signal sockets, rear hatch strut, rear hatch latch... It's a really nice looking vehicle, but I can't recommend it.
Wesley Salisbury i’m sorry to hear that trouble. It sounds like someone abused it and probably did something they shouldn’t have been resold it to not deal with the issues.
My manager had a 12,000 mile jeep wrangler and he tore open the oil pan off roading one time which destroyed the engine and he resold it.
My other friend had a 112,000 mile 2013 Jeep Wrangler And he never replace the spark plugs or anything other than oil changes but it’s because he never took it off road

It’s also basically a jeep grand Cherokee which is the most awarded SUV ever and has been ordered the highest return customer buying award most every year since 2011
And if there’s something like this that you’ll walk out to every day and enjoy I don’t know why you wouldn’t buy anything else. As you can’t buy happiness. I’ve also seen a brand new RT Durango sell for $41,000 or less depending on the month and with 108,000 miles no maintenance records other than oil changes sell for $26,000 which if that was a Tahoe it would sell for $18,000. So you save $8000 over most of the competition just by getting a Durango
Longer answer. Chrysler got new management in 2008 which completely changed their materials, they recruited Mercedes-Benz engineers which made this vehicle as well as the charger and challenger engine and transmission
So it’s really designed by Mercedes engineers Who were paid more to go to Dodge, I don’t think the grand Caravan or journey are near as good of engineered
But there’s a reason why Dodge Jeep and RAM sold over 2 million new cars in the USA alone last year. Just put that in perspective brands like Honda sold 600,000 and they sold almost as much as Ford.
In fact ever since they got new management in 2008 sales have over doubled and enjoying some of the last fun vehicles on the road.

Good review honestly. Can get us numbers on space available rather than saying, my head has clearance, like pop out a take measure and measure from the seat to the roof so we can have hard facts and also measure the distance from the seats in full configurations. You might be the first person on youtube to actually do that. Or is there a law against doing that? My issue is with Dodge which is really based on facts and personal experience. I had The Hemi version and the cheap feel and poor quality control was epic. The Engine and Tranny were great. $63,245 For a Dodge?! The company with the worst reliability in the current car market. Who cares about how fast it goes, when you buy this, you're buying an SUV, not a Race car. I'll head on over to Toyota and pick up the Land Cruiser, second hand with low mileage or a sequoia. and purchase an extended bumper to bumper warranty for that price. ( yes, the warranties work and I've used them quite a bit)
The durango is realistically the only true crossover between SUV's and cars. But vehicles like the the traverse, highlander and palisade are crossovers between vans and cars that are honestly more appealing than minivans (the traverse was literally deemed the sucessor to the uplander and the palisdade is based on the sedona platform). Vehicles like the subaru baha and el camino would technically be crossovers between cars and pickups. So crossover is a horrible term that could mean a wide range of things.
Also I would not buy a durango with the crossbar ever. That front face is what makes the design of the vehicle to me.
The highlander and palisade have less space and cost more, I don't see how they are more appealing than a minivan.
@@gondorian1006 ok youre 100% right and i honestly agree with you that minivans are wildly more practical. The issue with them is they are minivans and no one wants a minivan, so manufacturers have been trying to get as close to a minivan as possible without actually making a minivan. Chrysler made a bold move with the new pacifica and voyager, whereas the rest of the brands are moving towards crossovers based on minivans. Hell even Jeep (a chrysler brand) is moving towards large crossovers inspired by minivans
Reliability ?
J W I could be wrong, but I believe the Challenger is the 2nd most reliable vehicle in America, behind the Camry. Engines and transmissions are basically the same in the Durango and have been in production forever, so it should be exceptionally reliable.

I have a garage and speed shop but..... I do nothing to mine but oil change etc and I have. 74,000 miles on it and the only problem i have had........ a battery. Yep and even that was my fault. I kept the lights on 2 times. It drained it at. 71,000 miles
That 2nd row bucket crap is messed up. A no sale for me.
Either stop calling the Durango the only true crossover, or find me one source that defines a crossover as a mix between a car and a truck. Because ever definition I've seen describes it as a mix between a car and a suv. Meaning a suv based on a car like platform.
A Crossover is a VEHICLE that is a Mixture of other Types of VEHICLES in one Vehicle....In this Case. a Durango is a "CROSS" between a Wagon and SUV.
@@TomazHilton I'm not arguing that the Durango isn't a Crossover SUV, because it is a Crossover SUV, but not because it's a mix between a truck and car, but because it's a car based SUV. But to say it's the only true Crossover because it's less car based then other Crossovers doesn't make any sense.
The Durango looks dated because it is high and narrow compared to the wider and lower 2020 Explorer and Telluride. Even a monstrous V8 can’t make up for that!

Riyad Kalla Yes, it is funny how something that looked cool a few years ago looks dated now. I actually rented a brand new Durango over summer vacation. While the V6 engine sounded good, it really was small inside and cumbersome to drive.
Unless your commute is through perpetual "Uneven Lanes" of construction traffic like mine is. I'll take the Durango over the wider Explorer. Truthfully, the Durango is only 4 inches narrower than the Explorer, and 0.7 inches taller, and 2 inches longer, so really I think it's all about the hood length that gives the impression of it being longer and narrower than it really is.
@@howtobeatadrum the Explorer has 8.3 inches of ground clearance the Durango is 8.1 inches. So the Explorer is not lower.
T 15 According to my Interweb/Wikipedia research, the SRT is about an inch taller. Either way, I am looking for a family hauler, and lower and wider means less chance of rollover. And it also looks way cooler...lol!

This guy started out with lies lol, this suv like the Jeep SRT blows away all suv makes in quality and luxury.plus performance isn’t even close let’s see ya pull your boat with a Porsche or Land Rover lmao. I have a bunch of friends with their suvs and ever time they pull a damn lil bass boat they don’t see it for over a month because a wrecker was involved getting it home. Don’t even try to compare this to the absolute joke eco shit explorer from ford. They don’t last even 100,000 miles and get 10 less mpg than my SRT Durango plus can’t keep up when we drop the throttle it’s not even close

you can have fun with a SRT Durango, you can Tow alot more than other Crossovers with a SRT Durango, you can live with a SRT Durango as a Daily.
It is when it's direct competition literally cost double it's price. And it tows 8700 pounds and is an everyday vehicle.

This is a unibody vehicle and not good for towing irrespective of what this reviewer says. Get body in frame, Yukon or any truck if you want to tow.
What type of towing are you referring to? You do realize there is a spectrum, and typical size for a consumer of this type of vehicle, right?

I’ve seen the 292hp SXT sell for $26,000 or $31,000 with leather seats after discounts. That’s an extremely good price for a third row SUV. These are just performance models
Not to mention you can buy an RT for $41,000 and after 108,000 miles they still sell for $26,000 so if you buy a different manufacture of like a Chevy Tahoe you are guaranteed to lose thousands more of your money. just disappearing but with its resale value most of the money goes back into your pocket

Compared to a Tahoe? Or Kia telluride? I’ve seen below $30,000 for a brand new third row SUV with a big touchscreen and electronica dash. Discounts are different everywhere you go but even with no discounts it’s still cheaper than a discounted Tahoe
And you’re right it cost more than the average suv but you have to realize this is a third row SUV and that market cost on average in the low $40,000 range which even a fully loaded version of this beats that price

@@chadhanson4369 The GMC Acadia 3rd row is bigger than the Durango despite it being smaller. If the Durango had a larger 3rd row (and maybe a weight reduction) it would be an excellent value, but as we speak the Explorer is the King of RWD SUVs.
T 15 I agree Ford. is leading in sales and has very nice materials in their vehicle. I like the new redesign as well with their ST model
At the same time I have to say people who compare third row SUV side-by-side Ford Chevy and Dodge can fit 6 foot people in the back of the Dodge but not Explorer near as well. You see that almost on every review how shocked they are with the third row seat room because the Durango is a smaller SUV than most in the third row seat category.
When I mainly look for in a vehicle is how tough and beastly it looks. For explore just as most of them are looks like a family SUV, dodge Durango looks like a huge massive angry beast. Then add racing stripes and a hood scoop from viper I would have to say nothing looks even close to as tough or fast as that and no one would mistake that for a regular family SUV they would all know it’s fast right off the bat. Which is what matters to most people who want a sporty car, not only do they want the speed of the Durango but the look which Ford doesn’t look even close to as tough.
nothing beats that hemi V-8 sound. I raced one the other day just for a second on the highway and wow that crackle the exhaust makes is amazing and makes me want to buy a Durango just to show people my third row SUV is faster than their average sports car, faster than most sports cars bought today
Weight if the third row SUVs are also similar that’s not really a huge factor. In fact the Durango doing 0 to 60 in what people on the Facebook page claim 4.4 to 4.6 seconds as well as dodge and the NHRA have proven that I don’t think Ford. can touch those numbers even after a tune and can prove that it’s not a 12 second SUV stock
