The Cadillac brand has completely been revamped they’re the standard of the world again, and what they’re doing in the EV space with models like the Lyriq, Escalade _IQ,_ and Celestiq truly set the tone for how serious they are about being the standard in America again. Look what Marry has done to the Buick brand, completely recharged the excitement behind that brand here in N. America as well. I’m only 30 years old and I’ve never considered buying a Buick until now. That’s say A LOT about their leadership as well. I could say the same exact things about GMC and Chevrolet who have all tremendously gone up in both build quality and material quality over the years. Look what they’ve done with the Tahoe and Corvette. Thank God for Marry Barra who saved General Motors imo.
The key to zero congestion is electrification? Uh....how? Automakers have been promising zero congestion via self-driving cars for decades, even as far back as the 1950s. Congestion simply cannot be solved without reducing the amount of cars in the first place; it is a problem of geometry, not human error. Similarly with accidents, while they may be able to be reduced significantly if autonomous vehicles become safer than ones driven by people, it will be a lot harder if the infrastructure itself is not changed. Road widths must be narrowed, stroads eliminated, and land-use policy reformed. Even today where the technology exists I am skeptical that people will rely on it 24/7 and I think a lot of people just won't use it. Partially because some of the point of owning a car is being able to drive it yourself. I think in most cases public transportation will fill the role that automakers claim autonomous cars will.
It actually is - by making vehicles too expensive for the masses, road congestion will go down as fewer and fewer people can afford to own cars and through natural attrition older cars disappear - see Cuba for an example.
I'm amazed at such negative input. Mary's an excellent CEO. Important to remember that GM has something for everyone. I just picked up a Buick Encore GT at $35K and am very pleased with the purchase. CBS was spot on to do this story!
why do the EVs have to be so big...bigger is not better in EV...heavier and more wind resistant. Weight and wind slip are two major determinates of range.

Someone should tell Mary to stop calling her employees "cave people" whenever they disagree her. As someone that works at GM, if you are interested in working here, I'd highly recommend going elsewhere at this time. It is not a good place to work right now. Layoffs occur roughly every 6 months and without notice, the bonus structure has been changed so that GM will have to pay out less to employees, forcing employees back into the office for arbitrary reasons even if they were hired in as a remote employee, removing apple car play and android auto so they can charge you a subscription fee to use the same apps, and outsourcing a lot of important work to other countries like India because its cheaper. If you work in the engineering or IT space, stay away from this company.

I live in the middle of nowhere. Why in the F*c$ would I want an electric car/truck? 200 miles round trip to a, well, big city here in West Virginia climbing hills all the way?
I live in middle-of-nowhere Texas, and 200 mile round trips to Austin or Dallas are no problem in my Tesla. For that matter, I drove it to Minnesota and back, and it was no problem. (I mean, aside from being the world's most boring route to travel!) I also have driven a big loop through New Mexico and Colorado, including Pikes Peak. The navigation system figured everything out automatically, guided me to charging stations as needed.
If they install some GM chargers around town, I am all in. I love electric cars. They drive so nice, and I can charge at home for the day to day but long trips are what scare me, hoping they can build more GM chargers, that just automatically connect to the cars like Teslas. 😊
Have you heard of EVgo? They are one of the biggest public charging providers in the United States, and they are receiving a lot of funding and support from GM. And yes, they have autocharge with GM EVs just like Superchargers do with Teslas. In fact, EVgo also offers autocharge for Tesla owners who have received the CCS upgrade.
That's called a used car... That's the route we chose. ~$20K, 30K miles, like new. ~270 miles of range. Seldom drive more than ~150 miles in any direction, 20 minute recharge. 99% of the time we charge at home.

I am all for driver assist tech like blind spot monitoring, lane keep warnings, and alarms that go off if the driver is motionless and impaired on the high end models. Self driving with the purpose of reliving the driver of the responsibility of operating the vehicle is insane. These large EV SUVs are literally 6000 pound missiles. If a 5 cent capacitor fails somewhere, it can cause a lethal collision despite the assurances they make about failsafe features.
