    Be sure to stop at small produce stores to check if they give away overripe carrots and apples for the horses. Apple Farms too. Free treats!

    I love your channel, your family and your homestead. You’re doing a great job!! I hope you don’t mind a little advice, I don’t know if you know this or not, with the chicks you have to have a secure wire top to their cage or animals will get them. Predators love chicks, chickens. Have a great day

      Thanks ❤️ They are only outside when supervised right now. Their pen is right outside our camper door. With all the people, dog, cat, and horses around … the predators stay away 😂

    It took me so long to get some chicks. We only wanted a few because we don't live in a place where a lot of chicks would be a good idea I also wanted ones that had not been giving any medicines when they were born. I ended up finally going with an individual that I found through a friend. It worked out great and we have some very healthy chicks that are also several different breeds. It makes them so fun to be able to enjoy their personalities and we named them and know which one is which. I did do quite a bit of research on chickens before we got them and I was very specific in what I wanted for our environment so that they could live their best lives in the environment that I am able to provide for them with one being a cold climate. I wanted to make sure that I got birds that could handle colder winters with no extra care needed for them. I had no idea when I started on this journey that there is so much involved in just raising chickens. Thanks for the update. I'm so happy to see all of your upgrades and updates and how your homestead is coming along. It is so encouraging to watch what all ya'll are doing. See you next time.

I’m in a different older stage of life for a lot to pertain to me but I love seeing your adventures and I’m especially loving your new animals. I grew up on a farm and miss the animals now that I too old to take care of them. I will enjoy watching your animals.

    I think many of us would like to see a video about the details of the water catchment system. How it collects, how it flows to the other barrels, how you get water out to go downhill and to go uphill. Also on how you get the water from that well close by for drinking. How much do you get at a time, and what do you haul it in. Do you need to filter the drinking water at all?

      We are plant-based mostly because we don’t like animal suffering. Our chickens will be spoiled so we will eat their eggs. And so will our dog and cat. Their other contribution will be pest control and fertilizer 🐛💩👌🏼

    Rotational grazing will help Kee down the parasite load as well as allowing the chickens to free range. Jersey Giants have always been my best broody mommas and with a rooster in the mix you will get some fertilized eggs.

    Have you considered doing forage and food scraps only for your chickens with no supplemental pellet feed? I have a chicken tractor that I move every few days and have considered stopping with pellets entirely. They get alot of table scraps and culled garden produce as well. Thoughts?? Living in similar climate with similar ground plants as you but on the other side of Mississippi river divide

    I am sure I must have missed this, but I was wondering how you are supplying enough water for the horse & donkey being off grid without a well? My well here in Florida is broken, and we have a horse and wild boars that need some tips to supply them water. Thanks.

    • @raisingwildflowers
      @raisingwildflowers  4 месяца назад

      We just built a rain water catchment system over the animals shelter that supplies most of their water. If we run out of that water, we have public water at a local park and fill up one of our rain barrels there. Luckily, we have only had to do that once! We also had the idea of going to a car wash to fill up a rain barrel if the park idea didn’t work out 🤣
