I was going to say hipcamp but maybe also something for photo ops. Or charge like a fun farm day excursion for local day cares there's just so many possibilities. Pumpkin patch
I have to get a camper and pay off my debts before I can even think about quitting, but at least it's within sight instead of just always out of reach. These are some great ideas for when I get out there, so thank you for putting this out there!
It takes time to get organized and build a customer base but you can absolutely make money off your hobby farm or homestead in less than a year! . Matter of fact I bought 5 acres and a home for $150K and paid it off 2 years after I bought it just from my 19 regular payments (I was still working then) but mostly or the rest from my profits! I currently have 75 chickens, 200 chicks, 4 goats 4 pigs 25 rabbits and 200 quail... I will net over $200K in profits alone this year off my farm! First off no pets except the guardian dogs and a barn cat for mice ..each animal earns their keep and I don't get any hobby animals unless they will bring in money. I find the easiest, cheapest, yet most nutritional way to feed and raise each. And I keep lots of records for everything! 2nd grow your own fodder and make a 50 pound bag of animal food/grain into a 250 pounds of feed! This alone cuts lots off the feed bill! My entire feed bill with hay for all these animals and their babies is less than $200 a year. When I say I have 4 goats that is one buck and 3 does, always keep your breeders and switch them out every 2-3 years! I only buy new bucks to keep a different family line. Like I had a doe that always gave triplets I kept her 6 years but then she had a baby doe look just like her so I kept it and this was her first breed but she also gave me triplets! SO keep a line of your best producers that goes for animals and your vegestables herbs and fruits. 3rd grow a garden and grow extra for the animals. For instance I just went to Ace hardware this morning. They had garden seeds ( the cheap ones that are 4/$1 at Dollar Tree) marked at 10 for $1 I bought the whole bucket! As I was checking out the manager saw I was buying them all and asked the clerk how much she was at on the register and she said $5.21 he said ok sell them all to her for that! She hadn't even gotten the heap on the top of the bucket scanned yet! Going through those seeds I only need a few more special medicinal herbs and my yard long green bean seeds for my entire garden next year! Don't over pay for good seed the cheap ones at Dollar tree are all heirlooms! Meaning you can save your seeds and grow more the next year! The same seed supplier supplies to them and your niche baker Creek Johnnys and such! And don't throw your seeds out every year! They are good as they are for almost 5 years and if you put them in the freezer even longer! I normally save my seeds for next seasons garden but at less than $6 I can afford to buy new ones with different varieties in them! 4th I never have a bare spot in my garden all season! I do succession and intercrop planting and I space my plants not like the package says (meant for a commercial garden with tractors) but just enough room to grow and have a little air space. For instance: Growing lettuce and greens? RIght as it is time for peppers and eggplants or summer loving crops I pop them right into the lettuce and greens beds! As the greens start to bolt the other plants are established so I just make room for them by pulling up the greens! After pulling up the greens I also plant herbs or edible flowers between each summer plant. If I have herbs and flowers reseed on their own or any other volunteer plants they get pulled and planted where I want them, fed to the animals or composted! Speaking of which composting and makingnatural amendments saves you big time in the garden! Use the animal poop too! I make my money selling meat bird, eggs and chicks, the rabbit and pig babies, quail for meat, chicks and quail eggs and the goat babies and goat milk and products like cheese and soaps and such, and then veggies, fruit h erbs and greens to the local resteraunts and food vendors and then herbs for teas and medicines and herbal products with those herbs! Last year people started asking for cut flowers and rabbit poop fir their flowers and gardens so now I planned for that and sold both this year! Sunflowers of any size sell the best! If you can't sell them they are more animal feed or snacks for your family! I didn't have that problem as I didn't grow enough! Imagine over 200 sunflower plants and not having enough to sell! I sold small sunflowers 2 for $5 and large $6 each and sold out! Find what it is your customers for other products want and grow that! You already have your base customer and can cater to them! An example I have a local chef buying $50 of greens every week, he found out I sold herbs and grew edible flowers and have eggs ...I now make close to $300 a week off that one chef! And get this...ocassionally I use an app for payments in selling but almost all of my money is in cold hard cash! If you are brand new to homesteading do one animal at a time and get established well on your routine (3-6 months at most) before adding another, if you have several types of animals now, get organized and think outside the box!

I finally got a tiller a few weeks ago. I am dropping blueberries in front of the house in a month or so, and i plan to grow corn, tomatoes, green leaf lettuce, and English cucumber next year. Every little bit i grow means a lower food bill.
I feed 4 adult- heavy eaters and an elderly neighbor on less than $100 a month and we eat very well! Better than most, and all organic and what I do have to buy I buy in bulk and make everything from scratch including our cereals and snacks! What we produce and can't eat or make into freezer meals for busy days and isn't part of my money garden (selling to customers) gets preserved (canning, dehydrating , smoked or freeze dried) for winter or fed to the animals! Nothing goes to waste!
Also check with your state game and fish commission if you do have unused land. Sometimes you can work with state programs to provide natural habitats for wildlife conservation. Some state programs provide a financial incentive for doing this. Those horses are absolutely beautiful and the little one is so cute. ❤
I would love to do something like that with land but didn’t realize it could also be done in the manner you just described. I love wildlife and want to make a safe place for them when I can eventually have my own land. Thank you!
The only way to make money on chickens is to become NPIP certified (free and super simple) and breed and sell them. Becoming NPIP certified allows you to ship your birds throughout the United States. My husband and I did pretty well on it, until we burned out. Lol. If it's something you ever consider, I recommend purchasing a good large incubator. Quality does matter if you breed a lot.
When you start to feel burnt out ask friends and family to barter their time and pay them with food that you are producing! lol My neighbor can't eat store bought chicken as it has too many antibiotics and she has a reaction. I grow 55 meat birds for them in exchange for a week of caring for the place while I go on vacay and planting and harvesting! They also go home with lots of eggs and produce too!
Unfortunately, the animal businesses were not allowed at our place. We have grassy fenced pasture with shelter, a kennel and a hipcamp site. Our insurance co. told us they would cancel us if we did any of it, even though hipcamp provides liability insurance. So check with your homeowner's ins. first. So for now the best we can do is raise our own meat, milk and eggs.
Realizing that 50 miles from a $25+ hr job (time lost for farm/homestead duties, car gas, car maintance & alternative heat if using just wood) sometimes isnt worth it.
I wish I had property, your ideas are many. I love it! ❤❤❤If you ever do get into gathering waste for your compost, be very careful about horse poo. It can destroy your dirt for up to 10 years depending on what the horses are being fed or shot up with I guess. Look into it. Just something I thought I’d share just in case 😊 Cat was freakin funny
This was a very informative video even though I’m not a Florida homesteader. I have room to store campers or cars in my large back yard. Go be a cat sitter at the customer’s residence. Go to snowbird’s home to check like run water, flush toilet, ect. Tow campers for others. This is really cost production for me. I think I’m going in the opposite direction from your content. But this video I would say got my wheels turning upstairs. Thanks for sharing.
sounds great, my question is do you buy your own medical insurance? I've had to buy it on my own before and family coverage is very expensive. we have a homestead that we grow veggies and have egg layers and meat birds but we haven't gone into anything else yet and we both work out, but have summers off. we use all that we produce also
The only thing I will add to the setting up a spot for camping, clamping or a small house, you still have to check your counties/local areas laws for that because you could actually be fined if you don’t have either permits or license plus insurance would really need to be a must because if someone gets injured and wants to sue (even with proper paperwork signed) you could lose everything you have. The same with boarding animals. Depending on where you do this, if authorities find out and there are laws against it without a license, you could get in trouble and be fined. Sadly I have heard of this happening. I am not meaning to be negative. Great ideas on here though.
I was blessed to have an extremely tight budget when I lived in the city so I was not sure to having absurd things like people delivering food to me or paying extra so I don’t have to have commercials so when I moved into my tiny home in the middle of the country, it didn’t feel that different when it came to what I did for fun
The great outdoors, pack it out, composting toilet, outhouse ... it really depends on your property, how many campers you allow, and local regulations. Definitely important to plan for, but there is also nothing wrong with peeing in the woods and packing out poo lol. They make pop-up camp bathroom tents and portable toilets campers can bring as part of their gear if they need something special ;)
Wood is abundant oost storm. We pile it up and burn it with proper mgt this can be better for the future. Filling container with wood pellets would be great. Load shipping containers and store them all points preferably in dry locations.
If you want to start BEES hit me up because I run a lot of hives and can point out stuff you may need to know to get started. I always watch for deals on equipment because it does cost, April is another great time as some suppliers run a sale on wooden hive equipment.. You are on point about the chicken eggs as local competition dilutes the market unless you are close to a populated area. I get more value raising meat chickens to fill a freezer every 3 months vs buying meat.
Good ideas! Have you thought about putting in a sand point well with hand pump. I watched a video the other day about how to install could be a backup for your rainwater barrels.
Yes, you should definitely look into insurance for any type of business you start. It’s generally pretty affordable and just a small part of the business expenses. Insurance for my pet sitting business was around $500/year.
This is an awesome video! It definitely resonates with our family. We started a small farmstead and have many of the skills and opportunities that you've mentioned. We've been able to become debt-free and are now on a single 9 to 5 income. That being said, our biggest hold back from doing anything different and focusing solely on farmstead enterprises is the health care issue and insurance. Any advice? Thank you in advance!
@@raisingwildflowers I can have $1k in my pocket and I will STILL seek deals. Eggs just crossed the Rubicon $3.50 12 they had stacks of eggs. I dumpster diving and they toss so many when prices are high. They rather throw away the eggs than discount them.
You could rent your cat out as a stunt cat to Hollywood LOL! But seriously Yoga retreat or Meditation weekends work well if you have a very 'zen' homestead. Worm cast farming - sells for big bucks both the worms and small sacks of castings with little investment. The last one is herbal medicines- you need some knowledge but can grow specialist plants and also run courses on how to prep the plants to make teas / tinctures etc.
I've tried to make money with bees... Ended up being a money pit. There's not much money in honey or honey products unless you're large scale. Also you need to be in an area that can support bees. If you have large farms nearby with very little wild areas and forest the bees won't have much to feed off of. You can make money selling bees and hive boxes once you're established but it takes a long while. We are about to start a campground and selling firewood through a farm stand since we live in a recreational area with lots of other camp grounds.
I knit and crochet baby items during the winter, when I have a lot of free time because I can't do anything outside. A set of baby blanket, booties and cap with a fun pattern can bring in a profit of even 150$ and I can make it in max 3 days. It can take a little bit to research the right place to sell it (I started with Etsy, but FB mommy groups are a lot better). I buy second hand knitted clothes, unravel them and reuse the yarn so the costs are minimal.
Please don’t suggest animal breeding for dogs and cats, there are so many in shelters right now. Shelters are overloaded, rescues are at or over capacity, and I have seen what problems animals coming from “backyard breeders” have. That would be the only thing I would disagree with you on.
@@MamaPajama-yp5od agreed. I just see so many in the shelters where I have volunteered or been employed and then seen some of the issues when they come into a vet hospital where I used to work.
@@erink3105 and sometimes you see those dogs in a shelter. I know because I adopted one, an Australian cattle dog or heeler as they are sometimes called. I know there are multiple views on the idea of breeding. For me, shelter dogs are the way to go.
@@raisingwildflowersNot family payments but several thousand dollars back on tax returns for the earned income amd child tax credit. 2 children should be about 8 thousand back on someone's tax return even if they paid 0 in income tax during the year as long as they file a tax return and make under a certain amount a year. For example of you have 2 children and file a tax return showing you only earned two thousand all year you would still get back around 8 thousand dollars for your tax return.
@@raisingwildflowerson top of the earned income and child tax credit didn't they start giving an additional tax credit of 360 a month per child? I know a lot of people got checks last month. But it might be different from state to state for the additional 360 a month per child that only started a couple years ago.
@matthewmcmahon6727 The federal monthly child payment bill didn’t even come close to passing … and it won’t. So if people are getting a child stimulus check, it must be state issued 🤷♀️ IDK, but I am definitely not getting anything 😆

Cool! I dont even think i dare myself tbh. Well done!
What kind of insurance do you have for the pets you are boarding?
Good ideas! Have you thought about putting in a sand point well with hand pump. I watched a video the other day about how to install could be a backup for your rainwater barrels.
Camp site is a great idea!! Start with only 5
You need liability insurance for any kind of business you have that allows people or animals on your property.
Yes, so how much is that going to cost?
Yes, you should definitely look into insurance for any type of business you start.
It’s generally pretty affordable and just a small part of the business expenses. Insurance for my pet sitting business was around $500/year.
She mentions that at ~ 11:57
Country financial can include it on their home insurance.
Great to earnings in a Better Ways .
$40 a night for a dog! I sleep in my car just so I don't need to pay for hotel.
Oh, I know! Some people will pay $100+ a night for premium care 💰
@@raisingwildflowers I can have $1k in my pocket and I will STILL seek deals. Eggs just crossed the Rubicon $3.50 12 they had stacks of eggs. I dumpster diving and they toss so many when prices are high. They rather throw away the eggs than discount them.

With these various ways to make money, will you able to collect the a US government pension like you would with regular employment?
Yes, we claim all our earnings as self-employment income and pay into Social Security and Medicare.
Those funds are all but gone. Younger folks need to make other plans.
Thank you for the video. Are you able to this while having a mortgage?
You could rent your cat out as a stunt cat to Hollywood LOL! But seriously Yoga retreat or Meditation weekends work well if you have a very 'zen' homestead. Worm cast farming - sells for big bucks both the worms and small sacks of castings with little investment. The last one is herbal medicines- you need some knowledge but can grow specialist plants and also run courses on how to prep the plants to make teas / tinctures etc.
ohhhhhh I just love when my babies ride me like a pony what a great ending
people can make some real good income from a cottage food law compliant farm stand and farmers market days...
You would havw to have insurance if you had camp sites ?
Most of the rental platform (Airbnb, etc) include insurance in their fees.
Thank you for sharing. In what state are you located? Thank you:)
Virginia 😊
What do you do for health insurance?
I've tried to make money with bees... Ended up being a money pit. There's not much money in honey or honey products unless you're large scale. Also you need to be in an area that can support bees. If you have large farms nearby with very little wild areas and forest the bees won't have much to feed off of. You can make money selling bees and hive boxes once you're established but it takes a long while. We are about to start a campground and selling firewood through a farm stand since we live in a recreational area with lots of other camp grounds.
Hello, fellow Virginian! Or is that fella 😂
I'd say it's gotta be fella! lol
Selling chicks a buck or so cheaper than what you can find locally has made me some decent money
Hey....ps....I also sell Seeds and Plants😊
Good stuff 👍
Horse rental sweet.
lmao @ your cat
Which Part of the America ?.
Your cat gave me a mild heart attack. I was watching your video while driving and I thought I had a cat stuck in the engine. 😊
Oh no 😂

Please don’t suggest animal breeding for dogs and cats, there are so many in shelters right now. Shelters are overloaded, rescues are at or over capacity, and I have seen what problems animals coming from “backyard breeders” have. That would be the only thing I would disagree with you on.
Breeders get started somewhere. Some do well and some don’t as with anything else.
certain animals like herding, hunting and guardian dogs- need to be specifically bred.
@@chasingsimpledreams and sometimes those dogs once being in a shelter or of a certain age cannot be turned into safe working dogs and you know it.
What family payments do Americans get per month per child? Canada and Australia have high payments for children.
In America? Not a thing ... $0.
How much do Canadians and Australians get per month per child? And is it everyone or do you have to make under a certain income?
@@raisingwildflowerson top of the earned income and child tax credit didn't they start giving an additional tax credit of 360 a month per child? I know a lot of people got checks last month. But it might be different from state to state for the additional 360 a month per child that only started a couple years ago.
@matthewmcmahon6727 The federal monthly child payment bill didn’t even come close to passing … and it won’t. So if people are getting a child stimulus check, it must be state issued 🤷♀️ IDK, but I am definitely not getting anything 😆

Great idea’s but what about insurance? What kind do you have to cover all these great ideas? Boarding horses? Been there done it! Never again 😂
Please don't forget the majority of these jobs/side hustles will require insurance.
