Extremely underrated MCU entry. I do hate that this movie tends to get shat on, especially in comparison to not just later Thor movies, but later MCU entries in general. This is a solid entry released during a time when the MCU was still trying to find its footing. I appreciate it for that. This is a mid-to-lower tier MCU movie for me, but I still love it. As for these rewatches, I'll just quote Thor himself: "ANOTHER!"
I still remember watching this movie opening night. I remember gasping as Coulson calls for a sniper, and we see the point of view of the sniper grabbing his rifle.... putting it down... and grabbing the bow-and-arrow. What an entrance for one Clint Barton. But it was ruined because the girls behind me went: "Who is that?"... "I think that's Green Arrow". Damn near lost it lol.

This was 1 of the most underrated phase 1 movie......the Thor Loki and Odin dynamic was amazing and relatable to me on a personal level......everything on earth was fine but it kept me interested.....I don't know why people need a reason for why Thor and Jane like each other.....its simple attraction and intrigue

I recently watched it and yeah, it’s underrated. Good old Keneth tried to take it down the classical route and it just so happened that it wasn’t the path which bared enough fruit. All of which is the wafflings of casual viewer.

Thor as a character is a tough thing to crack. Kevin Feige and Kenneth Branagh went with the Shakespeare tone early on which works in some ways, but it was Chris Hemsworth's personality and Taika Waititi's vision that finally made Thor get over with audiences so well.

My introduction to Thor, as a character, was from the TV film The Incredible Hulk Returns (1988) with the late great Bill Bixby and Lou Ferringno. Erik Kramer played Thor in this movie. Kramer played Little John in Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

Full respect and admiration for Kenneth Branagh for making the original film work. This could have been a disaster, but the tone sorta blends together well enough. The film was cast exceptionionly well. Wished the score/themes carried over to the sequels. Although, I did appreciate the Asgard theme appearing in the final scenes of the 3rd movie.

Hey Kristian, regarding the question of how the Bifrost was restored in the sequel, the Official tie-in prelude comic for ‘Thor: The Dark World’, shows Thor giving the Tesseract (Space Stone) to Heimdall (Idris Elba), who uses it to restore the rainbow bridge. Might be something you could bring up with Coy and Winston in the next Rewatch.

  • @tornadochaser2457

Thor is human when he's banished to Earth, he doesn't have Asgardian physiology - It's why a tranquilising needle can be put in him when he's fighting the staff at the hospital, and why he's dying when The Destroyer flicks him.
Conversely, when he's banished to Sakaar in "Thor: Ragnarok", he has Asgardian physiology.
I think this is a great film - Jane and her group are charming, Thor's humbling feels earned, and I love how the movie subverts expectations regarding Loki just wanting his father's love, as opposed to desiring power and rule. It makes him wonderfully human. I love the Shakespearean take, and Odin and Frigga are strong presences. The Warriors Three have enough personality to shine, and all the humour really adds a lot of grounding charm and humanisation for what potentially could've been a movie that feels hard to connect with.
This and Ragnarok are interchangeable regarding the best Thor film to me.

Winston asked how Thor was able to use the bifrost since Asgard was destroyed. My understanding was that the bifrost was not the observatory which Heimdal set watch in. The bifrost was first build I think by Odin's father and are the space lanes connecting the 9 realms. In Endgame, Heimdal was able to use dark magic to access the bifrost to be able to send Hulk to earth.

    • @koreywinicky7767
      @koreywinicky7767 2 года назад

The bifrost and the ability to see for him was through his sword. The observatory just enhanced it through sword. Stormbreaker, just like Hǫfuð, has the ability to summon the bifrost. It seems like they will use something to enhance Stormbreaker through the boat in Love and THunder. Heimdal uses the sword in IW, siphoning the power from the sword, through him to send Hulk to Earth.

Also fact check: The kiss in which Chris wife stands in for in at the end of Dark World not the first Thor.
Coy also kept saying "Damsel in distress" for Jane which is not correct . Narratively a Damsel is a woman who a is a plot device where one or more male characters have to go save her. Jane isn't this, there is no name for what she is in this but it is a tired trope. The woman who loses all senses around a good-looking man. This trope has led to things like the Bechdal Test being a thing

I can see the difference and I'm glad strayed away Shakespeare talk into what Kristian called Spicolli. I don't think he's that bad but I hate reading comic book so this and Ragnarok fits fine with me. The humor doesn't bother me. I like funny moments and I like butt clinching moments when it's a serious moment. Katt Dennings is the comedy for the straight girl Natalie Portman and that seems to work. I think long as it's balance I'm ok unless it goes Austin Powers which it didn't. Good conversation that make me wish I had friends like this. Good Show 👍

Coy, I'm with you, brother! On my MCU ranking, I currently have Ragnarok as #19.
Admittedly it's got a brilliant soundtrack and great action. But the dialogue just doesn't resonate with me. Almost none of the jokes make me laugh, I don't really care for Sakaar or most of the Sakaarians (Goldblum was fun sometimes), I don't much care for what they did with Loki or Hela, Hulk and the Executioner (? The Karl Urban character) were flat out annoying...
There's just so much about this movie that I don't care about.
I only have it 2 spots above Dark World. Dark World is a shitty Thor movie, but it's a really good Loki movie. I think it's some of his best work in the role.

This movie is very underrated I have it very high on my list I really like this movie I think without this movie we wouldn't have the Avengers or Guardians of the galaxy along with Doctor Strange this movie introduces us to the gods in phase 1 and what started his character arc as he progresses through out into Love and Thunder. The score was good I feel like they were introduce the comedy side of Marvel I feel like this movie set up The Loki series. Chris Hemsworth plays Thor perfectly and Tom Hiddleston is perfect for Loki the other characters are goodly casted but I felt like in this movie Kat Dennings was just thrown in there for comedy and I felt the chemistry between Thor & Jane Foster was like a cheesy 90's rom com it needed a little bit more emotion for that part.

I didnt like that, they totally made him too jokey, thor from first movie i like the most, wish they continued in that direction, after all je lost his entire family and asgard. Thor 1 made Thor dumb, he’s smarter in Ragnarok even if joking he’s coping for everything bad happening to him. He’s lived thousands of years and He’s not joking in Ragnarok as much as we think. It’s just the stuff he’s doing or happening to him is funny.”That’s What Heroes Do!”

Not a massive fan of the first Thor. I think it’s good but not great. Definitely better than Thor: The Dark World though.
