Wow! They nailed it. The way she takes charge and realizes that she's in control of her own destiny. And Hemlock is the embodiment of self loathing, depression and ultimately death. Damn good short. The boyfriend's a total douch too. You just know Hemlock got him!

Lol, my first thought was “oh, they had Johnny Depp in mind for this part...” The actor did a fantastic job though.
Great minds think alike. I.m in good company of the ones I thought of. Jack Sparrow and Beetlejuice. With the exception to the Mad Hatter.
I actually thought Tristan was Johnny Depp until I saw the credits. VERY well done.
I was fully not ready ready to give The Alfred character a chance as soon as I saw him. But wow that actor freakin commits. I’m a fan of this dude.

I really liked the message behind this, at its core this is a story about standing up for one's self. I feel like Alfred J Hemlock represents that self loathing that everyone feels from time to time, some more than others, and it would just be easier to give up. It was nice to see the main hero of the film, overcome her own self doubt and hatred and learn to love herself. Even in the end we learn that the reason the guy is such a slime, is because of some deep seeded loathing of himself. It's all done low key, but turns out to be a good message for both female and male youth in today's society, you can't correctly love one another until we learn to love ourselves. Good flick!!

This was kind of a nice ending for our protagonist. She grew as a person, and the asshole got what was coming to him.

For the full length, I’d pull back a teensy bit on the Sparrow to avoid these pesky comparisons.

And some lighting to make him appear more falsely angelic and welcoming?

There are slight similarities but I wouldn't say "a lot like". Put it side to side with a Pirates film or something and it'll be more obvious how different they are, unless someone had difficulty judging tones I guess.

That was a cool movie. The actor just like Johnny Depp. All the actors played extensively well. Great cinematography, Dialogues, direction, music, costumes, plot, special effects. Great movie, definitely deserves an award

Seems like a metaphor about suicidal thoughts and depression.

I have always loved this channel, but of the stories posted these are always my favorites, they start out as the main character going through some horrific event only for it to turn out to be an awakening, epiphany, enlightenment ... a kind of blessing in disguise ... thanks for the upload "Screamfest" from a committed fan

Everyone is saying the same thing as I thought. I was saying to myself "It's like Johnny Depp and Beetlejuice had a love child. I loved this. Not scary, but way way entertaining! I would love to see a part 2 or a full length film of this. Wonderful!

Loved it! Super story, solid acting, wonderful effects and the title character rocks! Loved the cockroach effect especially! Loved how the lady rallied and came into her own at the end. AWESOME ENDING! A perfect gem of a movie!

So did we. It was our favourite part of making the film. And we all had "Oh Susanna" stuck in our heads for weeks.
That was a very encouraging short film. I loved how its sends a messenge to never give up, no matter what life takes you through. Keep up the good work.
That's a good visual scene of him skipping down the alley with the axe in his hand; it captures the essence of the film.
I would also be frightened if I ran into Johnny Depp in a dark alley.

Phenomenal story, characters were awesome, I loved Alfred’s entirely, from makeup, to physicality to acting, just top notch. Kudos to the actress as well. Loved the ending, this was better then 90% of full length movies I’ve seen. So well done, hope you win!

Tristan McKinnon is just so talented, and as many people are saying, he reminded me Ledger’s Joker meets Keaton’s Beetlejuice and Depp’s Jack Sparrow & Mad Hatter, victorian/gothic like. Saw this film at the HorrorHaus Film Fest in LA where it won Best Short Film and it blew me away. Wherever that film went to a horror/fantasy film fest, it swipe winning awards, and we had the pleasure to share Selection in some film festivals, and the media support has been reciprocal. One of the best dark fantasy horror-comedies and Alfred J Hemlock is a would-be ICONIC character. Can’t wait for the FEATURE FILM! The directing, cinematography, special & visual effects, sound and, of course, Acting was Top-Notch! Thanks to Screamfest for sharing this amazing film!!! Long life for “ALFRED J HEMLOCK”!!!

I really enjoyed this, especially how even though Alfred is quite menacing, his purpose still seemed pure in the end. Alfred seems like several Johnny Depp characters and maybe a bit of Freddy Kruger all rolled into 1.

Well, maybe not exactly pure. He seems to be a creature that feeds on dispair and fear, he says so himself when he told her about when he got her mother. He is summoned by his victims uttering a halfway serious death wish and then scares them into really going through with it. I guess one could see him just as a neutral personification of death who ushers suicidal people into the afterlife, but the sadistic way he torments his victim and the way he tried to fight the woman and tear her newfound confidence and will to live down again speaks against seeing him as a neutral beeing. He came across to me as a creature similar to Stephen King's Pennywise, with the difference that he feeds on depression rather than just fear. I liked that we didn't see him in the ending scene, I guess he would take another form for each victim, taylored after their nightmares.
Of course, we could also see the whole piece as symbolism, in which case Hemlock represents depression itself.

The opening was definitely strong! Powerful. For such drastic tonal shifts throughout, the film nailed it every time!
Well, an amazing work art. I enjoyed the whole idea. And, surely, you'll love to know that it taught me something of an important lesson of life; to never give and to never use your words to ask a death. Ultimately, life would be better if we became a stone, a precious and hard one! Anyhow, all the work was amazing. Keep it to more heights!

I saw myself at 14 in the first 1:15 minutes, I even hit pause after a few minutes to comment. Her despair is palpable, I felt that pain and fear of abandonment and loneliness and remember gathering my reserves to move forward. I have to say this is a great film, executed with craft, I felt her intimidation as well. Excellent work!

Out of over 100+ Screamfest shorts, this is in my def top 3. I get a HUGE lil Red vs Big Bad Wolf vibe, am I right? Editing and Lighting are what really sell the spooky.

Yup... This is great. Beetle Sweeny Sparrow Juice actually gave me the heebidee-jeebidees. That's somewhat rare for me who binges a plethora of Horror shorts almost every month for about 3 years now.
