When this came out in 1984 this was the fastest, heaviest, most insane song ever written. Literally next level music for it's time and it still holds up remarkably well all these years later. I've only seen Metallica live once in my life and I was fortunate enough to hear this song played live complete with fireballs erupting out of the stage. When that peaceful intro hit it's only one of 3 times at a concert where I screamed "YES!" so loud I blew out my vocal cords. Didn't even care. I was in thrash metal heaven.
This song is an absolute masterpiece
the complete album
the first 4 albums are masterpieces the rest from 1991 and today is up for discussion
@@pickamaterina1313 this wasn’t their first album lol
@@23hunter152 im aware of that, i have corrected my answer for better understanding
"DISPOSABLE HEROES" HAS TO BE NEXT!!! 9 minutes of pure energy also, the song "Battery" will hit you even harder than this one did
The live in Mexico one is fucking sick.
Live at Mexico
Yes, the entire Master of Puppets
...And Justice for All are some of the best albums along with Ride The Lightning.
Damage Inc
Yeah Ive asked this too ! What a ripper , yet with deep content !
The acoustic intro is a revisitation of a Baroque piece that Cliff was obsessed with. So he worked it into this song
Also sounds very much like Mercyful Fate inspired.
I remember when this first came out. I was a fan of Kill em All but when this came out, wow. At the time it was the heaviest song I ever heard.
Wasn't much (if anything) heavier at the time other than maybe the Hellhammer demos
Master of Puppets is definitely a must! That whole album is perfect imo, and there are a few songs (Sanitarium, Disposable Heroes, etc.), that I know you'd love
Sanitarium is SO underrated. It’s such a great song
This song is a heavy banger.
And justice for all.
YES AJFA plsss
Hell yea, Best album
Do the ...and justice for all album next please
You should def do the And Justice For All album next, but def don’t sleep on their first album Kill Em All if you like the thrash style. I’ve been calling for the song: The Four Horsemen!
The Four Horsemen from their first album is one of my favorites
BUT NO BASS IN DIS ALBUM !!!
Best song on Kill ‘Em All.
@@p1g5m0k3 absolutely!
Kill Em All, the first album, the fastest and most brutal. It is the epitome of thrash metal.
Would be great if you can do the whole thing, song by song, if you want. That album changed metal forever. It's worth every second. :)
Amen, brother. Couldn't agree more. 🤘
Nah
"Cliff Em All" is a mandatory documentary. It was their first video and they released it just after Cliff's death.
Also, Joseph Gordon Levitt is a huge metalhead and Metallica fan. He made a movie inspired by Cliff Burton called "Hesher". It also stars Rainn Wilson, Natalie Portman, and John Carroll Lynch. Metallica watched it and then told JGL that he could use all their music he wanted to. They said it captured the essence of Cliff spot on. It's a weird, sweet, funny movie.
You might as well do the Master of Puppets next. You'd basically be listening to the best 2 Metallica records back to back.
Ohh and I love the Lucifer clip in there. Great show.
I don't think she's listened to anything off Kill Em All yet?
@@donaldshelton3511 thats why she should just go ahead and finish off Master of Puppets. She can go back and listen to Kill 'em All after that.
Death Magnetic is my favorite Metallica album, despite most of the fans don't like it too much. I love every single song. You should check any song from there, you won't regret.
The day that never comes is myy fvrt❤🤟🏼
Very underrated album and my favorite after the first four. Their definitive return to thrash.
I wore the cassette of "Ride the Lightning" out so hard in my walkman that the tape snapped inside the cassette. Bit of scotch tape and I was back up and running.
Still have cassette and walkman that I listen to it.. Panasonic
Love how this song begins with a simple Christmas carol then immediate nuclear war. Literally.
Just for perspective this album released during the Cold War when the prospect of a nuclear winter was discussed in the public domain frequently. A subject that is bubbling up again unfortunately.
"...And Justice For All" is my favorite for sure. That would be a good one to react to.
Pure artistry the way they mixed this album. No bad song at all. The ending part linked to Ride the Lightning.. just gold. Can't beat the early production of metal in this glorious decade
This was our battle song for my platoon right before Desert Storm !!!! The rest is history !!!
Saw them play this song live the one time i saw them. So freaking amazing! Couldn’t believe they played it all these years later.
This girl's reactions to all songs seem so genuine and vibrant!
''RIDE THE LIGHTNING'' WAS MY VERY FIRST ALBUM.I BOUGHT IT IN 1987.THE PRICE WAS 4$ DOLLARS.I WAS 15 YEARS OLD....
JUSTICE FOR ALL
Watch them live.
The ‘Am I Evil?’ cover!!!!
Happy birthday MetallocA they are 41 years old now, still the best metal band alive🤘🤘 you should check out there latest albumns next same thrash and amazing solos but with james's older voice look up Hardwired or Death Magnetic.
When this was released it changed everything nobody's ever heard anything heavy like this at that time. As Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers said, my favorite song it's sweet destruction.
Lars was so good at double bass back then.
'Fight fire with fire' is about armageddon by nuclear war... it was a big scare during the Reagan years of the Cold War in the 80's. It's a concern now too, but it isn't a gigantic fire alarm that it was back in 1984 - they were like, "The commies are coming to nuke us! Take cover in an underground shelter in that event..."
Death is the tying theme w/ all 8 songs on 'Ride the Lightning'... Even the instrumental closer 'The call of Ktulu' is based on H.P. Lovecraft's fictional monster that rises from the deep oceans and brings insanity & death to humanity w/ it... They made a song 'The thing that should not be' (On the 3rd album 'Master of Puppets') about the mythical monster.
Metallica's first album "Kill 'em all" is definitely a thrash metal album to begin with... it was recorded and released independently in 1983, just as heavy metal was getting faster and more brutal by artists like Accept, Venom, Anvil, Raven, Exciter, etc... Metallica took all that and delivered a shredding record like no other out there... It's a bit juvenile lyrically ('Hit the lights'... 'Motorbreath'... 'Whiplash') but they were 19/ 21 when it was written, so it has that youthful enthusiasm... It's a great record. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth was credited w/ half the songs on the album (even though Kirk Hammett played all his leads and parts).
'Ride the Lightning' showed a depth in their lyrics and peaked w/ the shredding heaviness... The 3rd album 'Master of Puppets' (1986) showed a progression and maturity that no other thrash metal band had... There wasn't a band out there in 1986 (Anthrax, Slayer, Exodus, Death Angel, Overkill...) that didn't listen to that record or not admit that Metallica was going to be huge.
The song that took me a while to learn on guitar back when i was 15
Ahhh, Lilly! Wished you'd been around back then! What a time!!
When I hear this riff I think: MOSH PIT…MOSH MOSH PIT…MOSH PIT…MOSH MOSH PIT😝😝😝🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
This song was made during the height of the Cold War between the US and the former Soviet Union a.k.a. Russia and focuses on the possibility of nuclear war leading to the end of the world. Please react to "Load" or "Hardwired To Self Destruct" next. Lilly should also finish reacting to the rest of the Black Album too.
Wonderfull reaction, saludos desde
Colombia
Master of Puppets album was next chronologically after Lightning
The album of Master of Puppets was Honored to be preserved by the United States Library of Congress on the 2015 registry. The Library of Congress has claimed that Metallica’s Master of Puppets album is "of great historical significance."
The Library of Congress has been preserving art since the year 1800. It was established during the Presidency of John Adams by an act of congress It was first established as simply a library for congress. In 1814, the library which was housed in the Capitol Building was burnt down by the British. A new library was built and filled by Thomas Jefferson’s private collection of over six thousand books and works of art. Over the years, the Library has grown to house millions of works deemed of significant importance to the history and culture of the United States.
On January 27, 2003, the first 50 recordings were announced by James Billington, the then Librarian of Congress. The first four yearly lists each had 50 selections. Since 2006, 25 recordings have been selected annually. As of 2022, a total of 600 recordings have been preserved in the Registry.
Metallica and Nirvana (Nevermind album) are the ONLY two bands that you can classify as hardrock/metal on that list of over 600. Just two.
(though IMO Gun & Roses "Appetite for Destruction" belongs there as the only other for sure entry).
This song is about Nuclear War. 80's Cold War song pretty much.
The next album to check out definitely should be Master of Puppets. The whole album start to finish is "chef's kiss"
This was more their signature sound and the Metallica I knew and loved.
Just think this is the first track so lol what a way to start off the album perfect song
10,000 degrees in less than a second everything ash so bright it burns shadows into the ground
Fun fact: during wildfires, we use controlled fire to burn away the fuel source in front of the wildfire. We do fight fire with fire.
This song is by far one of the fastest songs of that time and is alongside of Dyer's Eve.
Metallica was ahead of their time. I've been a fan since when this album came out. They got only AM radio play and occasionally a station would play metal one night a week. I knew back then how special they were and still are.
Love this girl. Such a good reaction.
Master of Puppets album definitely has to be next, with either Battery or Disposable Heroes being the next song you check out
Love hearing Cliff in that intro
...And justice for all ! Full album
I was thinking about putting this song on in the car today but didn’t end up doing it. Funny timing you decided to react to it today so now I get to hear it anyway, lol
You definitely need to check out a live version of this too... In the 80s they played it at warp speed. But it has to be the whole of Master Of Puppets next, And Justice For All can wait till after.
And that clip from mad max... 😂😂 I love that bit 🤘🤘
Great review
Garage Days album awesome! Merciful Fate , The More I See , Breadfan are 3 really good songs from the album!
I bought this long player back then. Probably the best musical thing that could have happened to me. A new musical world opened up to me that I didn't know. After all, I grew up with churches and classical music. It was like a gateway to a new world. That first song was my first contact with Metallica. Love at first sight, which lasts to this day. After all, more than 35 years 😂
My first MIGHTY METALLICA ALBUM & MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ALBUM🤘🐵🤘
If you'd like to hear Megadeth's response to this song, you should check out Set The World Afire from their So Far, So Good, So What album.
Get out
tHE Kings, The Masters. The Saviors ..when I spent years looking for something, anything heavier than Preist or Scorpions or Wasp etc ..... Then This album surfaced & life changed~
This song changed my life. When I was a kid, my grandma bought me this cd because I thought the cover was cool (I didn't know who Metallica was). I played this song on my cd walkman about 50 times in a row before I realized that there were more songs on it.
I wore out two Metallic "Kill em' All" tapes when I was a teenager still their best album, they wanted to call it "Metal up Your Ass" but the record producers wouldn't let them so they named it "Kill em' All". "Kill all record producers"
And Justice for All! \m/
Used to go see them on the weekends in Berkeley California at a tiny club called Ruthie's Inn. Cost us about 6.00 to get in .
My #2 favorite song from Ride the Lightning, #1 Creeping Death. Love both songs ❤️🤘🍺💀❤️
I believe that there is a legitimate technique for fighting fire with fire and it is used for forest fires. They burn in advance areas that the fire is going to move so when the fire reaches the area it just stops because there is nothing to burn.
go to where it started 1983's Kill Em all I was 9 when I heard that album and have been a fan ever since
with that album you'll hear some riffs co written by Dave Mustain before he was kicked out & started Megadeth
Hola,megadeth poison was the cure,great song,thank you,from Argentina...🤟🏼
Kill em All, the whole album one at a time from beginning to end...but react to "anesthesia pulling teeth and whiplash," cause they actually go together...
Their first three albums kick a$$. My favorite is “Kill ‘em All”.
Do "Orion" their masterpice. It tells a story without lyrics.
Their cover of So What. ;)
And Justice for All album, one of my fave is Dyers Eve.
Hope you’re having a amazing day!
I've but two words for what should come next. MASTER! MASTER!
The song SPIT OUT THE BONE
Justice also gets my vote. My favorite album.
Gotta do ‘Sad But True’ next.
You're so fun to get stoned and listen to Metallica with! I love your reactions and the way you notice how the instruments illustrate the mood of the lyrics!
I am personally a fan of thier instrumental songs like To live is To die, and Anstesia but Orion and The Call of ktulu are my favorites.
Absolutely brutal!
I love it when James says "WE ALL SHALL DIE" punctuating the finality of nuclear war.
I'd do it in this order:
Ride the Lighting (what you're on)
Master of Pupplets
And Justice For All...
Kill 'em all
Mostly chronological but put the first album last please. It's a little raw and rough for newcomers. Has a few absolute gems though.
I agree with Brian about this. And after you've listened to (and loved) those 4 albums, listen to their live 1989 Seattle concert.
@@OriginalMiztiki Oh yes, a great next step. Perhaps their best recorded concert performance.
I do believe this is the heaviest song Metallica ever made.
Sad But True & Harvester of Sorrow are much heavier
@@edmcbain71 Are you kidding me?
This is a heavy song my second favorite Metallica Album
I love the way this song starts out steely old english like Knight’s Templar then slams right into a all out war on the battle field arrows flying threw the air men getting stabbed with swords horses getting impaled with arrows and spears
First album kill'em all
Dyers Eve is another one id love you to do ! And Thanks for your content . I enjoy that you get it and feel it ! Metal can be an acquired taste ! But I can tell you understand it . Much appreciated !
You can definitely hear the Mercyful Fate influence at the beginning of this song. Kinda reminds me of the beginning of “Into The Coven.”
And justice for all
A MASTERPIECE!💀🤘💀THIS ALBUM GOT ME INTO METALLICA BESIDES "KILL 'EM ALL"....
Fighting fire with fire is a real thing in forest fire Fighting. Do a front burn so when main fire gets to it, there nothing to burn.
Time to react to Slayer
Mandatory Suicide would be a splendid choice.
Haha, love how you include a mini clip of the best line from Fury Road, lol! I think the move from peaceful classical style into shredding metal, is akin to the world forever changing once the first nuclear weapon was detonated...the transition from centuries of traditional life & warfare, into a world where we know forever that we now have weapons capable of totally obliterating all life on the planet. This song is about the Cold War theory of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD), literally fight fire with fire. Remember, this song was written in the early 80s when the Cold War was still going strong...I had a recurring nightmare of dying in a nuclear explosion back then as an early teen.
5:29 that’s actually Cliff laughing
And justice for all best Metal album IMO. Definitely should do that
Kill Em All and Master Of Puppets albums...also $5.98 EP of 5 cover songs is pretty cool.
For the record (sorry if anyone said this already): Fighting fire with fire puts out a fire.
The Four Horsemen, Seek and Destroy and Metal Militia from the Kill em All album. Disposable Heroes, Battery and Orion off Master of puppets and the rest of Ride the Lightning album including Creeping Death from the album not live. Thank you have a good evening.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Death magnetic
Great album
Do dyers eve or blackened from "And Justice For All..."
Do all of the '80s Albums!! Master of Puppets, Kill 'Em All, ...And Justice for All!!!!
7:43 Pink Floyd put a nuclear blast in the beginning of "07. Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert" in "The Final Cut" album.
heh heh, love the Lucifer reference. Keep it up! Love yer reactions!
Master of Puppets for sure🤘🤘🔥🔥
