I'm surprised this series never aired on Nick At Nite back in the 80s or 90s. Thankfully it's finally out on DVD and I'm getting to see this show for the first time!

She always kept the fundamental elements of the 'Lucy' character everyone loved, but also kept her fresh, and changed with the times and as her own life changed. Lucy Carmichael and later Lucy Carter let 'Lucy' get into all kinds of situations and places Lucy Ricardo could not, and wouldn't have.
Between the 3 series you get a wide spectrum of Lucy, including the very talented Lucie Arnaz in her 3rd series, 'Here's Lucy'. I want to get it, and the previous 'Lucy Show' on DVD. That show (1962-'68) continued the Lucy/Viv dynamic from the first series the first few seasons, and was also in black & white. The later years were in color, had her working for Gale Gordon so she cleverly transitioned it into 'Here's Lucy' blending the familiar with fresh elements. She knew what she was doing, alright!

Here's Lucy added a new twist to the lucy phenonenon. IT is great if allowed to stand on its own,and not compared to the earlier "Lucy"series.

This is how CBS promoted the program just before its debut in September 1968- there was audio space at the end so the local/network announcer could add, "Premieres Monday, September 16th at 8:30/7:30 Central Time, in color, over most of these stations" or "'Here's Lucy' starts September 16th at 7:30pm, right here on KUXV-TV, Channel 45" (or something like that).

The only reason "HERE'S LUCY" was produced was because she didn't want to do a seventh season of "THE LUCY SHOW", as she sold Desilu, along with the rights to that series, to Paramount in late 1967. She formed her own production company (with Paramount as a production partner, through 1971), changed the basic situation, added Lucie and Desi Jr. to the cast, and that became "HERE'S LUCY".

I was at Universal Studios a couuple weeks ago and found much to my dismay that the Lucy tribute was gone. My 13-year old niece said you know why, don't you? Because she's old. I didn't want to say well, yeah, she's dead, too. Oh, the frankness of youth and the harshness of a teenager. lol

The thing that got me with this series (as opposed to the two others) was in was current an dealt with Civil rights, the rock an roll themes of the times, women's lib, an free love. I also know at the time she didn't like her son's relationship with Patti Duke.

"Here's Lucy" should have been better. But, Lucille Ball had too much control over the show. Virtually all the episodes had no close-up shots, the storylines were unbelieveable and ambiguous about Lucy's age. I love Lucy despite the stale sets, hard wigs and heavy make-up. If she had just relaxed more, perhaps the essence of Lucy Ricardo might have resurfaced.

No but I saw some behind the scenes footage of Here's Lucy where he visited her on the set. And he was executive producer for the first half of The Lucy Show season 1. I think it would've looked bad if he guest starred as one of her ex boyfriends or ex husband.

Didn’t Desi Sr. appear once on this show as himself and as a big-time Hollywood producer?I remember that one of the kids wanted to go into show business, and they were asking Desi all kinds of questions. All four of them appeared in one scene. The whole family together again. I know I saw it. Can’t find any info on this episode.

there are some misconceptions about desi jr n lucille. desi jr never had a drug problem..i think the confusion comes in because he dated patti duke n lucille's issue were that during this time patti duke had a huge drug addiction....patti was 23 n desi jr was only 17...(little known fact that desi jr also fathered a child when he was only 15)...desi jr was the baby n lucy was close to both her children but desi jr was the apple of her eye(ppl speculate this was because he was the spitting image of desi sr n although lucy divorced desi, she never stopped loving him)..desi dated patty during 70/71...lucy was insanely pvt n wanted to control any press she got....but desi jr n patty were all over the gossip mags because of him dating patty n lucy hated it(then patty became pregnant and it was assumed the baby was desi jr's)....finally...lucy did not fire desi jr from here's lucy.....desi jr was hugely popular by the time of here's lucy because he was in a band called dino, desi & billy...he only did here's lucy at the urging of his mom...it was known at that time that he wld only be with the show for 3 yrs(he left to pursue a film career that never took off)....desi jr. moved on from patty duke to liz minelli......one last very little known fact about lucille ball....she actually has 3 children by desi not 2....there 1st child was born out of wedlock n her name is madeline jane...madeline was raised by a couple in california n wanted for nothing as lucy sent them money every month to care for her....infact, lucille kept tabs on her oldest daughter n was there when she had her 1st child.
