I am sooo intrigued now by whatever was going on with Fairy Tale High, Toon Studio, and the parent companies. I love that all the lines they were associated with had at least one doll that was *completely* shameless in how it was ripping off Disney. They remind me of mockbusters and rip-off animated movies that seem to only be made to confuse clueless grandparents who don’t realise they’re buying the wrong movie for their grandkids from the DVD rack. And that brand presentation - brilliant stuff. I’d kill to hear the story from people who were involved. If it wasn’t actually an attempt to cash in on confused Disney fans (or rather, their grandparents) then I have to wonder what they were thinking. It almost looks like some kind of elaborate and expensive shitpost just to provoke Disney, but I know it’s more likely they just saw some way they could turn a profit on pushing the copyright boundaries lol
I love the once upon a zombie line! It’s not necessarily because it’s the best quality. And unfortunately they are very expensive in the resale market. But I love the mixed themes of horror and fantasy. A romanticized vision of an apocalyptic fairy tale
Once Upon a Zombie was also a book that I’m unsure was published or not. I bought every doll and they reached out to me to read the draft and give any notes.
Yesss it was published :D I think I got the book at a middle school book fair. I still haven't finished reading it tho, but it got me into the concept which I personally like
There’s actually an old fairy tale about Snow White and red riding hood that had a blonde Snow White. It’s just now the way Disney’s is. I think the actual red character was called rose red. (Hence why they are in the same story.)
I remember reading in one of the diaries or books, that Apple mentions that her blonde hair is actually a point of insecurity for her, since her mother has black hair and it’s part of the fairytale
Another great video! I have the Italian dolls of Regal Academy and love them, could only get through a few episodes, but may try again. I have the Once Upon a Zombie line too, good articulation, inset eyes, and rooted eyelashes. Big EAH fan, never got into Descendants but never saw them as a ripoff, just different. For fairytale fans these were good days!

Royal Academy was definite one of those shows that made me go “Huh, girls and guys are cute.” as a kid, which evolved into “Oh, I’m bi”. But I feel like I can say that with half the properties in this video.
Regal Academy isn't Rainbow's first CGI series. There was Mia and me in 2014, and also the Winx movies (the first came out in 2007) and seasons 5 and 6 which were half-CGI. They knew how to do CGI.

There’s so much inconsistency across Descendants lore throughout the movies, books, and animated series. One could argue that they are all different canons, but the books actually tried to connect them all together(Captain Hook having three kids, who are Harriet, CJ, and Harry. Dr.Facilier having two daughters, who are Freddie and Celia). Hades actually had a son named Hadie who had a minor role in the second book. When it was revealed in the third movie that Hades was actually Mal’s father, the author of the books was asked about Hadie and revealed she had to cut/drop/retcon his character as if he never existed…
Yeah, I’m sure Melissa went Through It trying to make it all consistent (or at least make sense) with the things and constraints she was given. My experience with the descendants fandom is that we usually take the elements that we like best (which includes mainly a lot of book lore) and then ignore the rest.
regal academy was EVERYTHING to me as a kid!! i learned about it through those flash dress up games online and binged the whole series and ATE IT ALL UP. i had ocs i made with the dress up games that i obsessed over [but that was also what i did with eah and lolirock] and couldnt focus because id be thinking about stories i made for them.. i still know the theme song lyrics by heart!! it might have been a bit odd but to me it was the best thing since sliced bread u_u
I mistook regal academy as supernatural academy and watched it on peacock and was surprised it’s pg-14 haha I had to come back and double check if they had dolls
I genuinely want some of these dolls now, especially Regal Academy, especially the boll gown ones! best thing about obscure ish doll lines is that I can actually afford them- and I neeeeeed the teen Rapunzel doll
Descendants brings massive nostalgia to me, I remember just singing my little heart out to all the songs and I honestly kinda preferred it more than ever after high
i definitely remember being super into ever after high and then descendants as a kid but WOW i completely forgot about regal academy, i remember loving that show and watching ever episode for it to just drop off the face of the earth one day
Ngl, while not a doll line, I would love to hear how you feel about the designs for Disney’s Twisted Wonderland, a JRPG/visual novel that has characters based on Disney villains (a couple are directly related but the rest are just based on them).
I don't play it, but I do like the character designs! I'm more of a bishoujo gamer when it comes to gachas, but I still see the appeal for the twisted wonderland guys haha
Fun fact for you if you ever heard of the manga called black butler the author yana toboso is the key visual design for the game and is also the reason why these last few years the chapters to black butler are shorter than usual cause she's been busy with that
Honestly, if any of these doll companies could make anything half as cool as Ever After High good in ‘em. The Ever After High characters had such cool, well-thought out designs so it’d be cool to see if anyone could make designs half as cool
Straffi just bought back Viacom's shares of Rainbow in January, so many of the current shows are stuck in production limbo at the moment. I think Regal Academy might be one of them, and the fully CGI season 9 reboot of Winx Club definitely is.
toon studios of Beverly hills is known for copying stuff from disney, they have there own disney princesses and they even created a snow queen that looked just like elsa

thank you thank you thank you, ive been searching for FairyTale High for years!, i had a sticker of the teen cinderella when i was a kid that i was obsessed with because i thought she was so pretty
as someone who grew up with descendants rather than ever after high, I do have a lot of nostalgia for it (although I can recognize that eah is better overall)
I mean, the dolls will based off of the designs in the new movie, so you don’t have to worry about that. Unless they make some original doll designs, but they could also have completely different designers than Mattel had back then during EAH’s run, so there’s that.
I’m gonna say Travis was my favorite from Regal Academy, expected to be the beast but he just loved art but was discouraged cause he’s “a beast” But then he was the only one to recognize Ling Ling and saw past the appearance to see someone for who they were like (I assume) his grandmother did.
As a long time cartoon geek, I love Regal Academy. Ever After High had better story telling, with an in depth exploration of the conflict between duty and free will (pretty heavy stuff for a doll commercial), but Regal Academy was a lot more fun. Rose geeking out over her favorite fairy tale characters was too adorable. I have all three American DVDs and the full series of season one in Italian. I can only find season 2 in French so far.
I knew, on first glimpse at Regal Academy, that they HAD to share creators with Winx. (which reminds me, I have a Mattel Flora around here SOMEWHERE, but do you think I could FIND her? Nope.) The whole "who copied whom" debate is always so cyclical. It's like there's a "click" that goes off...and then BOOM. Everyone has the same idea at nearly the same time. Orphaned wizard boy with glasses? Here you go. Kids/grandkids of monsters/fairytale creatures? Here they are! Ever After High has the best outifts and accessories of all the ones you covered.

as someone who watched all of regal academy... never in my life have i harbored so much hatred and annoyance towards a main character in my entire life.
Comparing them to the source material (the "teen Princesses" dolls), the source being the Disney Princesses, aren't all of the princesses teens already? (save for Cinderella since she was used as a maid by her stepmother [mainly] and step sisters, she became a princess [by marrying prince charming], she wasn't one beforehand.)
thank you for this video bc i bought a bunch of second hand monster high dolls a while back and they were dressed in clothes from all over. i had one in a torn up pink ballgown that i knew wasnt MH and this video showed me it was actually once upon a zombie. that's a load off my mind

I remember Regal Academy! In my country, it was on at 6:30 A.M. on Saturdays, in basically a graveyard slot, alongside nothing but Alvin! and Spongebob reruns. I forced myself to wake up early because I didn't want to admit that Saturday Morning Cartoons were basically dead at that point and had been a fan of Winx Club. The first few episodes were very rough, but it had some genuinely funny moments and got better as it went on.
omg I'm early! Hi there! I never thought I'd be so interested in dolls as someone who has never really had any? But I absolutely adore your content!!! You're super fun to watch! Have a nice day :3
New descendants dolls released for the movie this year by Mattel and you can definitely see the face sculpts were made to look like the actors kind of like the wicked dolls
Descendants was a book series before it was ever a movie. The characters in the animated series and the movie are all in the books. Freddy and Celia in the animated series are sisters. Cj and Harry Hook are siblings and they have another sibling, Harriet that only exists in the books. They picked and chose who to put in the movie and who to put in the animated series. Fun fact, Chyna voiced Freddy in the animated series and played Uma in the movie. It may have been timing but Disney choose to turn the books into a movie, it wasn't something they themselves came up with. The first book, Descendants Isle of the lost was written by Melissa de la Cruz and published April 2015, 3 months before the first movie.
Hmm, yes and no. The books were written to tie in with the movies and series and to promote them, and reading the books, they really don’t follow the plot of the movies and series, and more fill the gaps between them. Disney had a significant input in them too (I.e. forcing the writer to write out/scrap the character of Hadie after they decided that Mal would be Hades’ daughter). Melissa was more than likely commissioned to write these books, rather than writing them of her own accord. If she did write them of her own accord, she’d have gotten into huge legal trouble with Disney for using their IP, and besides, a movie isn’t made in 3 months. So yes on descendants TECHNICALLY being a book series first (since the first book did come out 3 months before the first movie), yes on the books including movie and series characters, NO on this being fully a book series first in terms of concept, and on the movies and series being book adaptations.
I bought a Fairytale High Snow White doll at Family Dollar. It was the only one they had. The doll itself was cheap plastic and the hair was atrocious. But the clothes were pretty good. So I kept clothes and threw away the doll…

I still haven't finished reading it tho, but it got me into the concept which I personally like
Odd that they made Apple White a blond considering her mom is known for her black hair.
I think it’s said or indicated that she got that from her dad.
It was stated in the book why her hair is blonde i just forget why
There’s actually an old fairy tale about Snow White and red riding hood that had a blonde Snow White. It’s just now the way Disney’s is. I think the actual red character was called rose red. (Hence why they are in the same story.)
@@lamorthonyfairyfriend4082 Yeah Snow White and Rose Red it didn’t have anything to do with red riding hood though.
It honestly does get better, surprisingly. The first 2-3 episodes are just, like, REALLY bad compared to the rest of the series for some reason
@@DarlingDollz I will definitely watch it again, thank you for the tip :) Due to one of your videos I got my 1st Storytime Princess doll which I adore! I never even heard of them before your video, thank you so much for that
Royal Academy was definite one of those shows that made me go “Huh, girls and guys are cute.” as a kid, which evolved into “Oh, I’m bi”. But I feel like I can say that with half the properties in this video.
Regal Academy isn't Rainbow's first CGI series. There was Mia and me in 2014, and also the Winx movies (the first came out in 2007) and seasons 5 and 6 which were half-CGI. They knew how to do CGI.
Fellow Texan here lol!!!!!! Wanted to say I love your videos, you completely reignited a love for dolls in me I feel like I haven’t known since I was a kid lol. You seem like such a sweet thoughtful person and you kinda remind me of my younger sibling lol. Everything your doing is amazing hun and it’s epic watching you talk about follow and share something you’re passionate about lol. Ur the grooviest 🤘
Omfg you explained the differences and similarities to descendants and eah SUPER SUPER WELL!! Its the best I’ve heard anyone explain it 😭
I mistook regal academy as supernatural academy and watched it on peacock and was surprised it’s pg-14 haha I had to come back and double check if they had dolls
I LOVE the Regal Academy boys, they look like protagonists from a card game anime!
Regal Academy suffers this issue where the characters look good in 2D artwork but thet look really uncanny in 3D
Regal Academy!!! The nostalgia I just got is insane, I loved that series so much
It's nearing the end of 2023, where the hell are my Zombie Winnie the Pooh dolls with collectable and tradeable NFTs?!
I wish they would bring back eah. I'd love to see them with the diversity and quality of mh 2023
there goes cousin cassandra again
🐟🥛
Wait, LoliRock season 3 was confirmed? Hell yeah!
i definitely remember being super into ever after high and then descendants as a kid but WOW i completely forgot about regal academy, i remember loving that show and watching ever episode for it to just drop off the face of the earth one day
Teen Alice? For a prequel? Wasn't she like 7 in the books?
This unlocked a hidden memory about regal academy omg I had forgotten about it 😭 I used to watch it when I was little
Ngl, while not a doll line, I would love to hear how you feel about the designs for Disney’s Twisted Wonderland, a JRPG/visual novel that has characters based on Disney villains (a couple are directly related but the rest are just based on them).
I don't play it, but I do like the character designs! I'm more of a bishoujo gamer when it comes to gachas, but I still see the appeal for the twisted wonderland guys haha
Fun fact for you if you ever heard of the manga called black butler the author yana toboso is the key visual design for the game and is also the reason why these last few years the chapters to black butler are shorter than usual cause she's been busy with that
I enjoyed this. I remember Royal High, I was a Winx Club fan and kept an eye on the studio.
Honestly, if any of these doll companies could make anything half as cool as Ever After High good in ‘em. The Ever After High characters had such cool, well-thought out designs so it’d be cool to see if anyone could make designs half as cool
once upon a zombie sounds like such an amazing premise, when the dolls came up I was so dissapointed...
There goes cousin Cassandra again 😀💦💦🐠
what did they mean by that 😭
Straffi just bought back Viacom's shares of Rainbow in January, so many of the current shows are stuck in production limbo at the moment. I think Regal Academy might be one of them, and the fully CGI season 9 reboot of Winx Club definitely is.
toon studios of Beverly hills is known for copying stuff from disney, they have there own disney princesses and they even created a snow queen that looked just like elsa
Just want her (EAH) back 😭😭😭
Same!!!
Mattel better not make those damn Descendants dolls 😤
i’m not much of a commenter generally but i watch every single one of your videos and have for a long time, i always really adore your frankness, knowledge and wit when speaking about your passions. i’m currently on the psychiatric ward so it’s very nice to have some new videos to watch while i twiddle my thumbs here. beautiful outfit, lovely new little set up i’ve been loving with all your pretty dolls, and as always a very well-spoken and well-done video. appreciate you and your brain :)
i had a few dolls from each of those lines...and all the zombie dolls for some reason. They were cheap at Tuesday Morning. I hate how most of these dolls were so skinny i felt like i was going to break them while posing them.
thank you thank you thank you, ive been searching for FairyTale High for years!, i had a sticker of the teen cinderella when i was a kid that i was obsessed with because i thought she was so pretty
as someone who grew up with descendants rather than ever after high, I do have a lot of nostalgia for it (although I can recognize that eah is better overall)
Oh gosh, if mattel will be producing new Descendants dolls... than how close to EAH doll design may they be?!??!??!?
I mean, the dolls will based off of the designs in the new movie, so you don’t have to worry about that. Unless they make some original doll designs, but they could also have completely different designers than Mattel had back then during EAH’s run, so there’s that.
Can’t tell if this is a good or bad thing but they better look WAY better because im gonna be buying them both 😍
I’m gonna say Travis was my favorite from Regal Academy, expected to be the beast but he just loved art but was discouraged cause he’s “a beast” But then he was the only one to recognize Ling Ling and saw past the appearance to see someone for who they were like (I assume) his grandmother did.
“And monsters-there was a lot of monsters”
Wrong.
There were a lot of monsters AND goths
I’m so happy you made this! I was hoping you would after you did the MH vid. Let’s not forget the cancelled Bratz Twisted. Great vid as always ❤❤❤
Nope.)
The whole "who copied whom" debate is always so cyclical.
IM SO HAPPY THAT U GOT SPONSORED AAA
i love ur videos so so much & im so happy 2 see u get successful enough 2 get a sponsor
also love ur outfit so much 💕💕
as someone who watched all of regal academy... never in my life have i harbored so much hatred and annoyance towards a main character in my entire life.
Off topic but your outfit is sooo adorable~!!! 💖💖💖💖
thank you for this video bc i bought a bunch of second hand monster high dolls a while back and they were dressed in clothes from all over. i had one in a torn up pink ballgown that i knew wasnt MH and this video showed me it was actually once upon a zombie. that's a load off my mind
i remember almost all of these because i was obsessed with eah and quickly found the other lower quality lines that no one had ever heard of
oh my god the fit in this video.... YOU LOOK SO CUUUUUTE!! the collar with the frills on it, the sunnies, I LOVE
yay another video to play when i need videos to draw to ( when i finally get motivation :[ )
( also love ur outfit )
Your outfit is so cute here! 🥰
I started watching vids about fashion dolls not so long ago but I am very into this theme and JEEZ I have to say that I love your channel so much. You always have a lot of info and present it well and I like your vibe (and I was specifically happy to found out that you like lolita fashion which I also enjoy). Thank you for your videos!! 💙
Omg your outfit is SO CUTE in this one. I'd definitely rock that 😍🥰
Omg! Your cutest outfit yet! Love it! 💗💖✨️
Are we going to mention how the 'Royal/Rebel' concept made no sense and they dropped it pretty quickly lol
omg your outfit in this vid is ADORABLE, i love it
fun fact regal aacdemy was made in development during 2000s before ever after high
off topic but I LOVE UR SHIRT SMM
I need "there goes cousin Cassandra again" stickers, tshirts, mugs
i bought the zombie princess line. thought it went well with monster high, maybe friends of Ghoulia.
omg I'm early! Hi there! I never thought I'd be so interested in dolls as someone who has never really had any? But I absolutely adore your content!!! You're super fun to watch! Have a nice day :3
woah 12:34 this is a W.I.T.C.H, WinX, Ever After High crossover. Just look at the art style!
New descendants dolls released for the movie this year by Mattel and you can definitely see the face sculpts were made to look like the actors kind of like the wicked dolls
Sir that outfit needs to be in my closet right now you slayed it
Your outfit is snatching and I can't stop staring at it omg, iconic
I have yet to watch all the video yet but I just wanted you to know that your outfit is AMAZING
PLEASE LOOK UP THE ONCE UPON A ZOMBIE EPISODES
