I see a lot of people complaining about the percentage let’s be honest the wait did no more work bringing in 40 dollar bottles and 300 dollar bottles in. I know it’s tradition and good manners and I’m not implying the waiter didn’t work hard, but does the 40 dollar waiter deserve the tip any less than the 300 dollar one. Maybe they’re servers or whatever not waiters still point remains. I feel like at a ludicrous amount like 90k 10k is generous regardless of percentages

    Small correction:
A person like Jay-Z who makes $42,000,000 a year and spending $100,000 on a bar tab in one night would be likened to someone making $420,000 a year and spending $1,000 in a night, not $100. Yet still, that happens all the time. It’s also likened to someone making $42,000 a year and spending $100 on a night out, which also happens ALL THE TIME. Love Dave Ramsey, just a small correction.

Funny thing is that looking at expenditure/income ratio doesn't even tell the whole story about how potentially insignificant $100k is to someone who makes $42M. In practical terms, it's almost immeasurably insignificant compared to a person making $42k spending $100 because there's such a universe-sized disparity in raw disposable income between to the two. To someone bringing home $42k/yr, losing $10k to a bad investment might be pretty crippling and set them back years on their goals.A loss like that could mean no family vacation or no new car that was on the horizon. On the other hand, while a $10M personal loss would still be devastating even to someone bringing home $42M/yr, they still have 32M reasons why their lifestyle or medium-term financial outlook probably won't take any practical hit. Plus, they have the resources to make that money back if they so choose. Someone making $42k/yr and who just lost $10k probably doesn't begin to have that kind of buffer, relatively speaking.

But more importantly, when grocery shopping, I grab exactly what is on my list and try to snag the generic brand options. Far less waste and cost.
But the point is as I'm looking for my items, I'm very aware about how much each item costs, as well as the approximate running total. When we scan the items at the self checkout line, my wife was semi-impressed as I rattled off the price of nearly every item just before we scanned it. 3 of 4 items were to the penny.

When someone says they want to make a lot of money, I always say, you don't have to go make money, they make plenty of money, you just need to be smart and disciplined and hang onto the money that you come across. Working hard, being smart, changing jobs when you need to, etc. are big factors, but it's more important to be smart with what you have. I get excited by other people's successes, because it reminds me that I can have that success, as well!
