    BTW...There is mention of UV protection in the formula for what it is worth. I found no evidence o protection but wanted to mention nonetheless.

    Happy Thanksgiving BrIan and fellow viewers! Great video as always and I want to give you extra special props for bringing up the fact that clear coating is the only way to preserve the polishing and refurb work. I restored the HLs on my personal vehicle with 2 off the shelf products that yielded great initial results but lasted 3 months max. The 3rd time I sanded them and coated them with a few good mils of 2K and polished. It’s been 3 years and the HLs still look great!

    There's a product called invision headlight restoration. It's a replacement UV clear coat. I think it's a type of polyurethane coating. I've used it on my neighbours car and almost 2 years later they still look brand new. I bought it from local store here in Australia but I've seen trade packs for sale on ebay.

    I have to agree with your call as 3D already has excellent compounds. Looks like the marketing department made this call.

    I find either I go full wet sanding and use a clear coat wipe or just polish when they’re not bad just like in this case

    Would you hand, dry sand stubborn factory clear (audi, bmw, Mercedes,) on headlights? And if using a machine what granulation? I find that 400 dry on a battery powered drill isn't as good as 400 wet by hand. Suggestions? 🤔

    • @STILLNIGHTPEARL
      @STILLNIGHTPEARL 4 месяца назад

      400 on a 3 inch disc via rotary like a drill or polisher should level that clear, but sometimes you need to drop it to 320. You can do it by hand, it’s just a lot more work.

    So, out of everything you have tried, what is it best method for restoring and protecting headlights you have come across? Thank you

    • @STILLNIGHTPEARL
      @STILLNIGHTPEARL 4 месяца назад

      The process that he did at the end, full restoration with PPF for protection. There’s a shop by my house here in SoCal that does two headlights for $200, XPEL PPF 10 year warranty.

    The blue is outstanding…but so are the scores of rock chips. I hope the owner is going to take care of that…or will you do it. I’d love to see how you tackle so many.

    Might would use after wet sanding, but normally just use compound then polish

    2k is not meant for use on plastic, and no wear does say so. It also will fail. I have had to remove the failed 2k from head lights and it is a pain in the ass. There are several dedicated made for plastic head light clear coatings that will last with after care every few months.

    Still a wet sand polish and ceramic coat the headlight guy. Always two coats of the ceramic

  • @747rotate

    I think it made a big ol mess... LOL. All jokes aside it looks like a good product without all that sanding crap. However in my experience restoring headlights it doesn't hold up very well and anymore I just install new OEM assemblies and most always park not facing the sun.

    Yeah, the lenses were pretty far gone. Not sure if any polish could have restored them. Happy Thanksgiving!

    So basically just another medium polish. Kinda discouraging to see 3D releasing such a pointless product.
    Edit: nevermind, you just said the same thing at the end of the video.

    Hmm...it shined it up. But it looks like a polished turd. You can still see the oxidation deep down. It looked like it needed a wet sand, then brought back with a polish. Just my opinion....
