I'm 70 years old and only tonight found out about dysgraphia. I had very poor penmanship in my early school years. I was tested as to my ability, but nothing ever came from it. I struggled at school but never received any support or explanation as to what was occurring. After watching this video I now have some answers. Fortunately my life was not impacted by my condition. I had a very successful career and am now enjoying retirement. I can't help thinking now what I could have achieved if I'd been diagnosed sixty years ago.

Hi Evan, you are so brave and powerful. I admire you for doing your homework and expressing yourself. My son is also dysgraphic, and has challenges in school. It is helpful when parents communicate with your teachers because, often they don’t understand it as well.

@@jenpaloma84 Hi Jennie, That is amazing I completely agree with you about Ewan. If I can support you or your son in anyway please do not hesitate to ask. As it definitely gets easier to live with learning disabilities when you get older and really understand you just have to learn in a different way. Please give my regards to your son. 😁

Thank you for creating this video very informative, I was diagnosed back in 2000 with dysgraphia here in the UK and all I was told at 14 years old was I would get an extra hour or two in my exams as my local authority didn't have anyone who could give me any support. Unlike people who had dyslexia who had been getting support since I at primary school (age 8)

I’m glad you enjoyed the video. And thank you for sharing your story. You’re right it is unfortunate that back in the day not every learning disability had the support. But I do believe societies getting a lot better with all of that. Good luck 😉

Sadly, I am certain that I have this issue. I was never diagnosed and, even though, I did well in school, I was always in trouble for taking too long to finish written assignments because I had no choice but to slow draw each letter so that it would be legible. I felt so helpless and weird growing up not understanding why writing was so difficult. I still struggle but fortunately I do not have to write much in the doctor's office I work in as most stuff is computerized. If I sign anything, I do it slowly. It is still very frustrating but I have managed and people still do not believe that it could be this much of a struggle.

I have dysgraphia (adult and was diagnosed as a kid in the 2000s). I *for sure* have the fine motor problems, a loooooot of hand pain. And, it’s not *only* how you hold the pen or the tightness of the grip that can cause fatigue and pain! People who have the fine motor issues from dysgraphia also just fatigue faster in the hand than other people.

Thank you for making your general explainer and for helping to spread awareness about dysgraphia!

my mum thinks i have it and we are llooking ffor a diagnosis, i'm in 7th ggrade and my handwriting hhasn't evolved since i was in 3d grade. i have almsot every symptom and it makes a lot of ssense, with the mix of lower case ans upper case i mix them up a lot, i spell things wrong, my writing sspeed and copying speed are very slow, i write letters backwords in some cases, and more. it would make a lot of sense to why i struggle in sschool and why i get so angry when tteachers tell me to fix my writing or take away points for lazy hhandwriting.

There is a simple solution to your dysgraphia. You have two hands. Write with both hands at the same time. I can't believe no one else has thought of this.
