This is one of those things that I feel like my brain made up because nobody ever talks about it, but then every time I see Lisa Ling, I'm like "No, no. That was definitely real." I was not aware of the drama with it, so thanks for serving that tea ☕️

Yes! I remember this in middle school and high school! We had little TVs mounted up near the ceiling that only played channel 1 news in home room in the mornings and then in high school the little TVs also played an after noon school news show and activities announcements run by students.

We had channel 1 news in middle school and high school. Until my dad and I moved from Tennessee to North Carolina. The school I finished high school at didn’t have it. I asked some people about it and they hadn’t even heard of it. I kept thinking I remembered a couple of now famous people from channel 1 news. I didn’t realize it ran for so long.

It was banned?!? I totally remember sitting in the lunch room of my middle school and watching it. I kind of forgot about it for a little while until I saw Lisa Ling of something else and then it all came back. I honestly don’t remember there being commercial at all 😂

It's so weird how we all lived the same childhoods. Not only everyone watching a certain channel. Even personal things like balancing a light switch between on and off (for whatever reason) or running up the stairs in a wild way?????? So strange. 😮😂❤

That's so true. I only had 3,000 people in my town growing up... so I was the only Sailor Moon lover at school. Now, it's like I'm one in a billion. Any childhood experience I had, somebody is reviewing on RUclips. I love the show and movie reviews as well.

We watched it in my art class period in the mid nineties. I was in the Lisa Ling period, and the teen news aspect was taken seriously. I actually learned a bit from it, like the anti American hate and sentiment in the middle east fours years before 9/11. Plus it the commercials were the same maxi pad, zit cream, gum, and soda commercials MTV played, nothing offensive at all. I guess some crazy parents just decided they didn't like this school mandated show advertising gum? (which we weren't allowed to have in class anyways!) Clearasil my god! I though channel one was fine, nothing controversial at all in any way. I think a few parents made it that way, simply because they didn't like the idea of the school being forced to show commercials to their kids. It could have been commercial free, but then how could they afford all those t.v.'s the schools got and used for everything else? Also my school had it's own cable access station and did their own morning news type show over those t.v.'s. One of the girls who hosted got a sweet behind the scenes job at County Music Television after college. (CMT) My school had no issue with it, and the kids that watched it and didn't sleep through enjoyed it.

It’s no longer fun. We had something similar when I was in middle school in the mid 2010s and it was just a bunch of unfunny puns, random irrelevant news, and politics. It would sometimes start stupid debates among peers. I always hated that time of day when we would watch it. Sorry, Carl Azuz.

1991-2 was my 7th grade year where I watched Channel 1 after recess at my private religious junior high. I don't think it was continued in my 8th grade there at the school but I could be blanking too. Anyways, it enrages me that private schools sold out to this commercialization. Back then though private schools were still reasonably priced so that normal families could afford them. America is a land of sell outs to the highest bidder on such a grand scale that it's scary. We need diversity of expression, not conformity to one source of information.

2 things I remember from Channel One News: learning about the Taliban in Afghanistan because of a Lisa Ling-reported story, and a Blockbuster Video ad about the movie Titanic being released on home video. Like, a video rental chain devoted an entire ad campaign to one singular movie now being available for home rental.
