Just wanted to jump in and say thank you for making this video!!! This worked like a charm. I did the washers on each side and the L brackets and have had zero problems for less than $6 bucks.
I just added 3 thick washers to the hook that kept popping out and its fixed took 2 minutes.. can't believe we've lived with this problem for that long .. thanks
THANK YOU. Dude, this has been driving me nuts. Everyone just hasn’t really offered a solution. Yours was easy to follow and cheap. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! 🙏🏻
This is a simple yet excellent solution to a common and annoying issue for the ikea sofa. Any rookie can do it very quickly (can vouch, as I am a rookie) at a low price. Cannot thank you enough, may all your traffic lights turn green on the roads you travel.
3 years later and this video is still super helpful! I have been having the same problem and I started by fixing in the washer, which helped resolve the issue, but I was annoyed by the sides moving apart still, so I decided to install the brackets today Thank you so much!
Thank you Rasheem! We were going crazy , our side panel wasn't going on properly. 3 washers on each bolt was enough to line things up properly. Problem solved! Thank you again!
Thank you for this fix! I predrilled holes and used some 1 inch particle board flat head screws. I only used one bracket and didn't put washers in the hooks and it has been working like a charm so far!
Thanks man. This was a perfect explanation of the problem. I didn’t realize it was happening because of that side piece moving. Excellent job putting this video together!
These fixes worked great! I would add that it's also very important to fasten the bolts connecting the pieces of the sofa. When we were putting the brackets and the washers, we noticed some had become very loose. Cheers!
Omfg!!! TY so much man. What an easy and simple fix. I did this with a couple washers, screws and brackets I had around the house. You’re a genius man.
I freaking love you man Thank you so much… I found the issue which is the hook not aligning correctly but I had no idea the solution would be this simple 🤓
I have this exact same problem with the sofa. It's a guest bed for when my mom visits and I worry about her slipping on it. Definitely going to try these fixes. Thanks!!!
Amazing - simple fix that will hopefully be the end of so much frustration! Thank you so much for sharing. Like other people have said, I don't understand why Ikea refuse to make a more permanent fix - but then I guess that would involve them admitting there is a problem!
Thank you thank you! Mine has been broken with the loose side for ages and I couldn't work out how to fix or why it was made like this but this was easy and I'm a 63yr old not very handy grandmother, but I do know how to use a drill. I tipped it over onto its back to get easy access for the brackets and added the washers just on one side. So far, so good.
Size of washers I used. 1/4". I used three for each nail (so 3 multiplied by 4). I also only used one bracket at the bottom where he had his, but my bracket was smaller (it will be nice for someone to push it in while you screw those into place).
People do (i did!) - Ikea sent an "engineer" to check if it was a manufacturing issue, decided it wasn't, so refused to acknowledge an issue so they wouldn't have to give a refund.
I tried 3 and then 6 washers on each screw but it was still able to slip out quite easily. Mine was apparently so messed up that I had to put the "hook" at an angle by using more washers on one side than the other (6 on the front side, 0 on the back side). That eventually fixed it. I hope it doesn't strain the wood too much, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
I never had it slip out but then again I don't use it as a bed often. I do however get a lot of play from the armrest like you said and I was doubting whether I had assembled it right but looks like that's just a design issue. I might do the L bracket fix when I do my project to raise the height of this sofa.
Thanks I just got the sofa and the first day it was put together. This was a problem! Ikea hast to know, this is a problem and they still haven’t fixed it😮
I have a different problem. The edge of the bed keeps collapsing when the bed attachment is pulled out. Now, I can only use it in its couch configuration. It only started doing this about 8 months ago and I had the bed for about 2 years. I'm upset and I don't want to purchase a new bed. If you or anyone knows a solution to my problem please feel free to let me know!
The only solution I found is using strong wood plywood flat squares that I made myself. And placed them in the corners to stop the bed from caving in...its not the best solution, but it worked for me
Great video! I am suffering a lot because I have a carpet and when I try to pull the module out or putting it in it grabs the carpet with the wheel and drives me nuts. Did anyone find a nice solution for this? Thanks!
Might I say that I love you! ❤️ lol but seriously I noticed the splaying side but didn’t know how to rectify it. I had a ratchet strap from Leg to leg lol 😂
I added the washers, but it still slips out, so I'm looking to add the L bracket. I've never used a power drill before. Any advice? Since you mentioned it wasn't easy. Thanks, great video
Can you make a video on how to fix the pull out part of the couch when it fall downs. For example mine if you sit on it or put too much pressure it just falls down and closes. The part that’s supposed to hold it up isn’t keep it up. Thank youuuu

Can confirm it worked perfectly !! How they havent fixed this design flaw after so many years, is beyond me...
Thank you Rasheem! We were going crazy , our side panel wasn't going on properly. 3 washers on each bolt was enough to line things up properly. Problem solved! Thank you again!
Good solution, had this issue when I has family over, happened more frequently as I was pulling out the extra section.
Thank you!!
Just dropping by to show appreciation for your video. Man, you have no idea how annoying it was! Thanks, dude, you're the real MVP.
Thank you for this fix! I predrilled holes and used some 1 inch particle board flat head screws. I only used one bracket and didn't put washers in the hooks and it has been working like a charm so far!
Just made both modifications to my Friheten yesterday and it's already incredibly more stable than before. Thanks so much for making this video 🙏🏻
Thanks man. This was a perfect explanation of the problem. I didn’t realize it was happening because of that side piece moving. Excellent job putting this video together!
Thank you for taking the time to share your fixes with the rest of us peons!
You sir are a LEGEND for this tip- it’s been driving me mad!
Such a simple solution I cant believe I struggled with this for as long as I did! Thanks for the video

I kept wondering why it was slipping off and I appreciate the video... what a great fix !
Thank you so much I've been going crazy trying to figure out how I can solve this issue and this is a great remedy!
Amazing - simple fix that will hopefully be the end of so much frustration! Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you for posting this. My 15 month old slipped through the middle the other day & I really needed this fix!
Thank you so much for sharing, this problem has always been so annoying, you're a genius

That’s great to hear! Glad this helped!!!
Thank you so much for this! My couch has been driving me crazy, I am so happy for this simple solution.
Absolute KING 👑 thank you this has been driving me nuts for months!
I added 4 washers to each screw and then added heavy duty rubberized pads for the couch legs and that worked for me!
I think it may have worked, thank you for the idea and taking the time to make this video to save all our butts!

I hated waking up and me being on an island because it disconnected, THANK YOU
You Hero! This is just what i needed to know, it’s been driving me mad. Not sure how IKEA have not rectified this with longer hooks or something?!
thank you soo much!!! this was driving me insane but such a simple and cost efficient tip. totally fixed the issue! thank you :)
Bless u too. Its surprising no one ever report this issue
People do (i did!) - Ikea sent an "engineer" to check if it was a manufacturing issue, decided it wasn't, so refused to acknowledge an issue so they wouldn't have to give a refund.
Thank you!! Your solution was easy to follow!!
Thank you bro from Domincan Republic, I will do this fix ASAP
This is so smart! Such a good solution to both issues! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I'm ordering the Friheten next month. I'll be sure to build it with these tips and tricks. Thank you.

Thank you so much you don’t know how many times I ended up on the floor at night
Got this sofa only two months ago. Was extremely annoyed if this was only happening with our unit. Will try this out for sure

Can a standing desk slide under the sofa? How much space is there from the bottom of sofa to the floor?
Thank you so much! This issue has been so annoying. Can you tell me what size washers to get? I know nothing about hardware :)
great solution. same issue here, i hope ikea should pay attention to this common place design flaw.
Many thanks 🙏🏻 I didn’t know what else to do.
You’re the best. Holy moly i was thinking this was an Ikea problem
Rasheed I have the same bed but a different issue. The metal working of the fold out section is broken. Can you do another video please?
Thanks I just got the sofa and the first day it was put together. This was a problem! Ikea hast to know, this is a problem and they still haven’t fixed it😮

Having the same problem!!!
I am also having this problem with my holmsund couch :(
Did you ever find a solution to this?
I am having that problem too and with others that I know that has it

Any recommendations for makong it pop up a bit better?
I think i'll do the bracket part. Thank you for the idea!
Thanks you for the great tip 😊
Ours was so hard to screw in that they became stripped just putting them in so now it pops out but we can't fix it
Thanks for the video! Helped me a ton.
Great video!

Thankyou. We have same issue. My job for the weekend.

incredibly helpful video!! thanks so much dude!
Thank you very much! I had this problem and your tips helped me to solve it.
Do you have the dimensions for the L brackets?
2x3
Please show 2:32 clearly from a distance , my sofa bed dislocated just like this...m not able to put it back as swiftly as you did
I need to try it thank you so much!
I bought some rubber grip pads and some washers 😅 well see how this works
Grip pads so the couch doesn’t slide and washers to maintain that it stays
Thank you for this fix!
Can you make a video on how to fix the pull out part of the couch when it fall downs. For example mine if you sit on it or put too much pressure it just falls down and closes. The part that’s supposed to hold it up isn’t keep it up. Thank youuuu
Mine does that too 😩
mine also keeps collapsing!! only started a few months ago. someone please do a video on how to fix it!
THANK YOU! I thought we were the only one to break ours hahaha
Thank you!!
Aiutooo,ho questo problema! Come faccio 😢
could you please give me the Dimensions ?!
Exactly what i needed! Thanks my friend, you saved my ass and my sleep 💤
Which size did you use for the bracket did you use ?
2x3. But I think a 3x4 would’ve worked better
Simpson Strong Tie Galvanized. They are very heavy, strong, and stiff, used often for fencing posts. Available at any Lowe’s or Home Depot
Thanks!
Great fix!
Thank you for this!!
wow they designed this really cheaply. they overlooked such basic considerations for furniture
it comes in handy when boondocking
Awesome video mate very usefull thanks a lot
THANK YOU!!!!!
