Great review. The best Aussie car reviewer on RUclips - informative, fast pace, nice videography and best of all, a really likeable onscreen personality.
You probably dont care at all but does anyone know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost the account password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
I’ve got this exact model on order! RAV4 Cruiser Hybrid. I’m so excited and still have 3-5 months to wait but watching this video made me so much more confident I made the right decision
Nice one Bec - you'll love it. It's definitely one of the best SUVs in the segment and should hold its value well given how hard they are to get your hands on at the moment.
@@anthonyhamamji2019 Fual Tank issue only a problem on North American cars made in Canadian or USA Factories. The problem was addressed in Recalls and eliminated in production around mid 2020. Not a problem in any Australian RAV4s that were all built in Japam.
Really good review. You’ve got a great, comprehensive format that never gets boring. I noticed your survey on hardness was pretty clear that people care about it. No other review channel provides an objective measure on this. An idea you could consider as you get more measurements on different models is to put up a little table which compares the car you’re reviewing with its competitors.
Great idea and we love the feedback. We'll work on developing a 'Doug Score' style spreadsheet so you can see all the different models. In addition, we'll also show you the nearest two cars against the tested vehicle to give you an idea of what league it's in 😄
CarExpert A Doug-style score would be good. He mixes in some subjective measures. It’s a good way of quantifying his expert opinion. Another channel that lines up similar models as part of the review is Alex on Autos, though his presentation is a fair bit drier. I don’t know why I watch so many car reviews. I’m not looking to buy one soon! 🤷🏻
😅 don’t worry, a lot of people watch reviews just to see what’s happening more than anything. And all the more for it! Will check out that other channel too 😁
I have just purchased the new AWD RAV4 Hybrid Cruiser (White). Although am currently in lockdown and working from home (and not going anywhere except to the shops and back) I am enjoying driving this vehicle. Although at times it can sound noisy when the foot is planted, it is most of the time quiet when driving sedately. I have taken the car on a couple of country trips including off road and surprised at how well it manages the uneven surfaces from sand to stones ard rock. The fuel economy is amazing compared to my previous diesel SUV attaining around 5.L/100km on the highway. I am getting around 900kms per tank full. There is a fair amount of technology which I felt somewhat daunted by when I first picked up the car, but after driving this car around my local area have found it to be easy to use. It is certainly a fair amount of money but oh so worth it!
Toyota Rav4 pricing kicks off from AUD$30,990 (US$19,700) for the Toyota Rav4 GX manual and goes all the way through to AUD$47,490 (US$30,330) for the Toyota Rav4 Edge.
Really happy with our 1month old RAV4 hybrid AWD. Very responsive in all road conditions. This is my second RAV and my second hybrid (after Prius). It’s like my previous 2 being combined - just way more comfortable.
Ordered 2 weeks ago and estimated delivery date is mid July. Glacier white 2021 Cruiser hybrid AWD. I am SOOOOOO excited to get this car. Love your review btw. 👍🏻
Picking up mine in september. Decided to go cruiser hybrid AWD, needless to say super excited and this video was super informative. Had no idea you could store the parcel shelf so easily!
I’m glad you mentioned the lack of heads up display. Here in Australia it’s really needed. A few other negative points I see is the passenger manual seat, no ventilated seats or full sized sunroof. The interior could use a few items just to make it a little more special too, much like the Mazda CX-5. Bar that it’s a brilliant vehicle and light years ahead of the previous model. Great review 👍🏽
Plus, it has a small glove box, which can be hardly closed with vehicle manual and service books insode. Also, a lack of illuminated window switches, side mirror controller are annoying at night. Otherwise, I agree that it is a great vehicle (it is definitely light years ahead of the previous model, which was my least favourite) especially with the hybrid power train that is above my expectation. Really love to drive mine every day for commute.
Thanks for the awesome review, Paul, and Australian, what a bonus!! I'm getting a GXL Hybrid 2WD in Atomic Rush end of Nov and I'm super excited and literally can't wait, especially after what I've just seen here! I think I'll be watching this a few times more, just to taste it lol!
Great review, love the style which I found very easy to listen to. We’ve just ordered a GXL Hybrid and can’t wait to start driving it. We had been deciding between a a petrol Subaru Forester or the RAV4 and the savings in running costs and servicing of the RAV4 won us over.
Yesterday I Went to Toyota for a simple test drive just out of curiosity, I was sold! then before I knew it, I was sitting down signing a contract for a brand new 2021 graphite hybrid cruiser. Now to wait for it to arrive. I’m looking forward to the day🙌🏻🙌🏻 it still doesn’t feel real, I’ve been wanting a new car for years!
Ordered a silver Cruise AWD the other day after checking out a number of reviews and taking one for a drive. I currently have a Honda CRV - top of the line that's 2.5 years old and its been a good comfortable car - my second of the same model but I wanted to upgrade to a Hybrid and Toyota has had many years of experience with this technology thus going with them. Paul you did a great job with this review, covered most items however the sound system is what we often listen to when driving and I feel you should give a fraction more attention during each review - I know you touched on it but just a bit more eg how easy to set up, quality of sound, etc.
It has been a week since I ordered my RAV4 Hybrid from NZ, and I am so excited! Despite I was told to wait for 3 to 5 months for the arrival of the car (as there is none available in the country), which I wouldn't have done with any other cars, I thought it was definitely worth to wait after test driving the RAV4 hybrid. Never thought I would buy either RAV4, hybrid or AWD mid-sized SUV few years ago, but it was so impressive. It would be fun to drive along with my family's latest Honda CR-V Sport Sensing, as these are the competitors in the market. Btw, I purchased RAV4 in Ruby (red) colour after being inspired by your video Paul (and it really blew my mind after seeing it on the road). Your review has affected and helped me to decide. Thanks for the great review Paul and the team!
@@lkj17 😂😂😂😂😂 The popularity and sales rate never lies, mate 😉. I test drove CX-5 with RAV-4 hybrid and CR-V, and these were all good cars. Though I was expecting the CX-5 to be more outstanding as it had higher price tag than both cars. In terms of driving experience, I couldn't notice any difference on a daily drive.
Subaru hybrid, that is just the worst money pit ever, i can't even imagine how much junk is going to go bad and break on that thing, won't even make it to 150,000 miles.
Love my 2020 Rav4 Hydrid. I was told it would take 4 months for delivery in Canada but it arrived in 3 months (they have a plant in my province of Ontario that make them). It's been fantastic since I got it in March. Great on fuel! Can't wait to take it across the country and camping.
The most reliable review I have ever follow. Not seen anyone giving review better than Paul. Cheers Paul, u always make our day. With the review. In b/w I have realised that the hybrid is also determined by the blue start button.
@@CarExpertAus To be honest the Hybrid was my preferred choice however, as the car was a replacement of the Cruiser model (due to hail damage) we had no choice. There were apparently no Hyrbrid models in Australia for 8 months! Insurance was forced to upgrade.
We picked ours up 7 days ago - watched this review and I think the analysis is spot on. Hybrid AWD - all it is missing is cooling seats and it would have about everything I think I’d like. Really impressed and I couldn’t see how say a X3 or Audi Q5 would be better, apart from a bit more mumbo.
@@DS-iu4su ordered in mid November. Got the run around and virtually no dealer communication so mid April started looking at other dealer websites for ones in stock. Missed out on one but the other turned it around in 10 days. It is a lease so price wasnt that big of a concern - we haggled a little bit and they tossed in a full tank of petrol so happy all round.
CarExpert we got the pearl white with the nutmeg interior. We wanted the black interior however I think the "brown" err fawn errr nutmeg is growing on us both.
I've had my RAV4 Cruiser Hybrid for six months and am loving it. A couple of things, however. I have never seen 4.8L/100km milage. Predominantly driving in the inner city, the best I've seen is 6.2L. I wish the reverse camera had better resolution as I find it hard to see what's going on there sometimes especially at night, when it's raining or in shadow. The reverse side mirrors ("wing mirrors as you call them) don't fold back automatically when you lock the car like a lot of other modern cars. There is a button inside the car that does fold them, but you must remember to do it before you get out of the car...and finally the light in the boot is too small for the size of the boot. Otherwise, it's a dream to drive. Much nimbler than my old 2016 CX-5 by a long way. I love the way it subtly teaches you how to drive more efficiently with "drive ratings". It becomes a bit of a game after a while.
Replace the boot light with a brighter LED for a couple of dollars off eBay, it's what I do for my much older car that has a terrible halogen boot light that is useless.
I have a Rav4 Hybrid and generaly have 4,8L/100km and make 900km without touch the reserve light. In long trips with 120km/h I have 5.2. You need to drive diferent from a gas car. :) sorry my english.
I love this RAV4 and I think it's better choice than CR-V Hybrid or Forester e-Boxer; besides, upcoming PHEV version looks like a killer. Anyway, I managed to do 1,070km (665mi) per 60L tank on RAV4 Mark3 with 100kW D4D engine.
CarExpert - Sadly, it is my understanding that Toyota Australia have indicated that they won’t be bringing the PHEV version ( known as the “Prime”) into Australia for some inexplicable reason. It has just been released in the United States, and as you can imagine the demand for it is astronomical, however, Toyota are only making around 5,000 units available in the U.S. in 2020 !!! Absolutely crazy, given that they could easily sell 20-40 times that number due to its popularity. It’s an AWD vehicle, with a pure EV range of approx 60kms on a full charge and a 0-100 km/hr time of around 6 seconds !! I actually believe that it could be a partial competitor to the full EV Tesla Model Y SUV, for those people that want to go electric around town, but are concerned about the potential for range anxiety on a road trip - the true “ goldilocks” EV solution. I just can’t understand why Toyota, the worlds largest car manufacturer, can’t produce enough units, by a large margin, of a mainstream car that is in such high demand by consumers!!! Surely they have the manufacturing resources to build enough batteries and electric motors, given that they have been developing and producing hybrids now for over 20 years since the first Prius was introduced.
We are loving our Rav4 XLE hybrid. We've owned it for 18 months, taken long trips, the system works flawless. It behaves great on the hyway and don't have to worry about the weather with four wheel drive. Great to haul large items (washing machine).
Had mine for nearly a year, AWD and love it. Hoping to progress to the PHEV RAV4 at the end of the year. 300 hp and combined fuel figure of 90 mpg, with electric only of 39 miles. O to 60 in 6 seconds. All UK miles. Can recommend the car.
Enjoyed the review Paul,up to your usual great standard. We have ordered a white Rav4 Cruiser Hybrid 4wd last Sunday. Around 12months wait for delivery so our car will be the newer version being available from October 2022. Like you we were very impressed with the comfort and easy usability of the car we test drove. I've always regarded Toyotas as uninteresting appliances but this car with the improved suspension system that makes the car enjoyable to drive has won me over. Never ever thought I would say this about a Toyota, but there you are!
Hi Paul, thanks heaps for your segment on the RAV4! We are currently looking to purchase one for my wife within the next couple of months. Deb will need to take one for a test drive first and assuming she loves it, then we will decide on which model will suit best. I am from the old school and would prefer to have a tachometer in the dash as well. I feel more comfortable when I can see what the engine is doing. In saying that this purchase will not be for me :( Many thanks again for taking the time to produce this segment. Kind regards Wayne S
A thoroughly enjoyable review by someone who obviously enjoys his work - you even manage to sound happy when pointing out some of the flimsier parts of the vehicle's interior. (I too, thought this was a let-down for a Toyota - I noted that where the pieces of the console met at the start of the cupholders, the join was very poor and was only going to get worse, when I looked at one recently.) I don't think you miss anything of importance, and you speak with an easy, good-natured, comfortable manner. I think you manage to be as thorough as Matt Watson, but without the (at-times strained) humour. One thing I found off-putting was how you repeatedly point to the object/item you are talking about and then tap it: I get the feeling that without that tapping, you believe nobody will know what you are referring to. I feel otherwise and an "un=tapped" review would not lose clarity, because the camerawork and commentary puts the subject in clear view, but this is a small criticism. I look forward to many more enjoyable reviews on this channel. Keep up the good work!
In Canada the AWD hybrid can tow 750kg as opposed to the 480kg Paul mentioned in the review. The Trail (Adventure in the USA) model will tow 1500kg because of the dynamic torque vectoring on that model only. I've watched countless youtube videos on the Rav4's..... sometimes it pays off mate. lol
I ordered the all wheel drive GXL in electric blue. I ordered it on the 1st of February and I get it on the 26th of June. Can't wait, I hope it is worth it. IM SO EXCITED!!!! 14 days to go.
Great review format and quick to the info with little fluff! I'm on the waiting list too - 10 months to go. Worth the wait. Grabbing a AWD Hybrid Cruiser, Pearl White
Picking our hybrid go fast red up in 2 more sleeps...can't wait. Drove one in NZ last November and loved it. Great review...thanks 😊 Edit...we have now had our RAV for about 6 weeks. We've done a couple of long trips in that time. There is not one thing I don't like about this car. Couldn't be happier 😁
Awesome review. Leaning toward buying one but I'm spending most of the year in Ireland, which is awkwardly right hand drive, so probably going to stick with my 08 Civic sedan.
The most important aspect for me and maybe a lot of people not wanting a sedan is to see how much room there is with the seats folded down in the back which wasn’t shown in great detail here but what we did get was a stupid gauge giving us some number that we can’t reference to tell us how hard or soft plastics or rubbers are in the car
I have ordered an AWD Cruiser Hybrid in September 2019 and just got the information that it will be built this month (May 2020). Exact date to be confirmed, but it means 10 months wait. I ordered the car in glacier white as I don’t like the “ creamy” look of the metallic white. It will have black interior and a tow bar. 2 more months now and I am really looking forward to it.
it is worth it to wait, I have a 2020 Rava 4 Hybrid got it around February. I waited 4 months as well.. driven the car for 2.months no.problem at all..love the car .
Awesome review, really insightful and helpful and that is the reason I've gone with exactly this same spec of 2wd Cruiser Hybrid. Found AWD to about 3k expensive and not worth paying extra for.
I have an older 2009 RAV and it feels like a new car, super smooth on the road and plenty of zip. Great cars the RAVs. Just a great wagon - can do virtually anything. I didn’t specifically target a RAV, and needed a 12mth fill in car, but based on how good this one is, seriously considering trading up to a new hybrid Great review mate
I was looking for a more reliable wagon alternative to my old Volvo V50. It was nickle and diming me to death. Eventually decided, even though I was looking for a wagon instead of a crossover, on a 2012 Rav4. Great car that fit my needs the best.
My mum didn't buy this exact model, but we got a GX in Saturn blue and honestlyyyy me and my mum are sooo excited for this car, just need to wait at least 2 months until we can get it, but other than that, very excited 😍
Can't wait Paul review the hybird Klunger. The soft hard test, the boost, the fuel economic test and the 100km run is just nail what normal ppl need. Keep up the good work!
I brought one in May. Very lucky to get this one . It was on order and didn't want it now. Wow ,what a car . Fantastic great review. Car goes like a dream ,saving fuel is so easy now. Service capped at $210.00 for the next 7 years .WOW. Great family or couples car. A must buy if you can.
The hybrid model comes standard with awd it doesn’t need the knob. Uses electric motors on the rear wheels unlike the regular gasoline/petrol model that’s mechanical.
I'm ordering a cruiser next week. Bought a corolla hybris in January but hate it, fortunately I can get my money back as the used car market is insane right now.
Incredible car real world figures we get 5.7 liters per 100km at 915km per tank extremely practical car very comfortable. Get the dual motor if you plan on towing. Only gripe on the base model there is no keyless entry or 12 volt socket in the rear.
Excellent review Paul. On the Cruiser and Edge models you can swap from digital speedometer to analogue speedometer via the settings menu. Interesting that in the 2022 update most of the missing features pointed out in the comments below will be included in the Cruiser model.
Hi, just discovered the drivers seat position can be auto set to the entry key. So when I open the door with my key I get my position and when the wife opens the door with her key it moves the drivers seat to her position. Brilliant!
Had mine for 5 months, ( in the bright blue ) been using it as an Uber car in a really hilly town. i'm still averaging 750kms a tank. I don't think you will find enough flat ground to push that out to 1k kms. I love how smooth the hybrid system is and iv loved educating my passengers on how it all works. so many still think I need to plug it in to charge its honestly one of the first questions I get is how long does it take to charge. and im like oh no it dont have a plug. and that's mind blowing for a lot of my riders. I found the lane keep assist annoying in town and promptly disabled it, quickly changed the lock settings because it WONT let you out any door after moving until you press unlock button not even pulling on the drivers inside handle let me out super annoying. can be changed from the car settings on the large touch screen. I was disappointed the mirrors being electric folding did NOT fold in when the car was locked. iv since had a box wired into the drivers door to do this an expense i should not of had to pay. The front passenger seat is up too high and cant be changed many people hit their head on the roof. its also too close to the side of the car and the seat belt plug gets stuck sideways between the seat and side of the car then rattles, I reach over the flick the seat belt flat to the side of the car 20+ times a shift super annoying. The lack of a light inside the glove box is also odd and just indicates cost cutting. theres also no back lights on most the buttons on the drivers door altho every other button is back lit on the dash etc why ???? The setting to change the dash to a digital number rather than the gauge is named really odd ( meter mode ) can be found in the dash settings portion of the menu settings on the dash.
Thanks for the "used" review! I love the feedback from people who have had time to work out all the flaws and what they still like about their cars. Just curious, is your Rav the front wheel drive version or AWD, and what country/state do you drive it in?
@@nataliecarey4853 from factory yes. the only way to make them fold is to press the switch on the drivers door. I found a company that made a box for inside the drivers door and when wired in it makes them fold when the car is locked.
@CarExpert , any chance of getting a sound meter to measure the dB level of all the cars you test? Maybe from a common point such as the front cupholders or centre armrest? It would be interesting to have a comparison between cars. Cheers!
We got the same car you reviewed but in the Graphite. Had it since March, waited six months which was understandable considering the popularity of the Rav 4 Hybrid. Love the car, only down side is the engine grunt when you need to put your foot down.
@@CarExpertAus Liking it alot. Previous car was a Toyota Camry so ride height is a big difference which a positive for me. Boot space is amazing, recently had to take some rubbish to a tip and had no issues with releasing the rear seats. I have disabled a lot of the in car warnings like the school zone and speed cameras as that was getting on my nerve after a while. I heard reviews mentioning the lack of a heads up display which i have no issue with. Dealership was fantastic from first looking at the car to pricing and then delivery, when taking the car for its one month check up, the dealership sales team ask me for my feedback on the vehicle which i was happy to provide.
I ordered mine 6 months ago and was supposed to take delivery this week (February 2021) but delayed indefinitely. The Melbourne dealer advised that there's a global parts shortage (notably computer chips) plus the massive global demand and Toyota can't keep up. The dealer advised there's a meeting next week with Toyota Australia to discuss what they're doing about it and firm up new delivery dates.
Great review. Interesting to read about people ordering cars and the delivery times. Delivery times for most manufacturers seems to have increased a lot in the last few years. Never used to wait more than 6-8 weeks. Not uncommon for 6-8 MONTHS now.
Top marks for presentation style and camera work. I was lucky in buying my GXL Hybrid AWD waiting only a week in May this year. Good points. 1. It’s a Toyota so I fully expect it to be reliable and cheap to service. 2. Doing mostly country miles now, fuel consumption has gone up to 5.6 l/100 km. 3. Active cruise control Bad points 1. Not enough storage pockets up front. 2. Spacesaver spare 3. Lane assist. Car wanders too much and LA drops out frequently 4. Australia misses out on rear view mirror changeable to a screen for a rear facing camera
You should clarify, the models built in Japan can indeed get over 600 miles of range, but the manufacturing defect impacting the North-American built models will make them get 400 or fewer. Virtually all of the 2019 and 2020 RAV4 hybrids have the dreaded fuel tank issue, in which no more than 10 or so gallons go in, or in extreme cases (like mine) the tank only takes THREE gallons. And the advertised 40 mpg can be as low as 26 mpg, which is what I got in my first 5k of driving. Toyota calls even extreme cases like mine “normal operating characteristics” so refuses to fix them. Thus, North American buyers may get a vehicle with less than a 100 mile range, which makes it not a useful vehicle as the review states. So buyer beware, especially since Toyota is fraudulently (depending on the state you’re in) failing to disclose these substantial ways in which the vehicle fails to conform to specifications.
On my first tank, I only got 370 miles until "empty", and could only fill to 11 gallons, we'll see what happens in the years ahead. My dealership has given me the clear to drive 2-gallons past the fuel light. Your story sounds horrific though, shame on Toyota - this is apparently a 2 year old issue now. Honestly all these RUclips puff pieces are what lured me into thinking this was a great vehicle, now I'm starting to read that there are widespread issues with the vehicles electrical AND fuel systems. (at least the US-made version), which sucks because I was one day away from getting a Japan model....
@@adammartin1643 Shame indeed. Nationalsaid they could address it once I go through the “impartial” NCDS process, which entails lawyers they pay to decide if my vehicle is faulty. Toyota submitted a brief document saying they had examined my vehicle and it had no problems whatsoever, they may have existed but were “fixed” (a deliberate lie) and no defect is known with this model (a provable lie as well). My documentation, which was all from the dealer, showed that they couldn’t get more than TWO gallons into the tank and it had a 75 mile range. The NCDS told me there was nothing wrong with it. A week later, Toyota sent me a “okay, we know your vehicle has a defect, and we’ll fix it in early 2021, and you can f@ck off in the meantime because we already have your money.” My vehicle has now literally been in the shop for 345 days and counting. Insane that Toyota would do this to their reputation, affecting tens of thousands of previously-loyal customers.
@@PersingerJim Ugh....I brought mine back to the dealer, and they basically shrugged it off, telling me to focus on my fuel economy, instead of the 200 mile fuel range deficiency and the messed up fuel gauge, Sounds like passing the buck is happening all the way up to the top - must be the new "Toyota Way".
I really like the idea of these and can see why they’re popular. Question though - would you buy a new RAV4 (which are quite pricey) or better off getting a used RX450h (which have excellent reliability and fairly good economy - not 4cyl Camry though)...?? I’d probably go the RX450
Yo Paul.... I'm loving your style of car reviews man... No stupid jokes that aren't really funny to be honest with you. Even when you aren't a fan of the car or a feature in the car you chilled out when you let us know. Great job mate. I'm the biggest fan of Toyota. Currently driving at Toyota conquest with a whopping 6752000 km on the clock and I love it
Thanks Paul. I’ve owned the 2020 model for 18 months. Watching your review it seems they’ve not changed anything in the 2021 model. This says a lot in my opinion. Love my 2020 cruiser. Even your review on the hybrid edge 2022 has maybe three more refinements over the 2020 cruiser. I now definitely see the value in buying the top spec. if possible. The added features are great and very practical. Used to think top spec depreciated more. Not with this car ! It’s held its value if not gone up a little albeit shortage of supply issues contributing.
Love your reviews Paul & team. I am planning on getting the Cruiser model soon. I did a test drive a few weeks ago & whilst very impressed with its style & performance, there is one issue that I hope Toyota will sort out soon. The passenger seat does not have height adjustable function option (neither does the driver seat I don’t think). I am 173cm tall so am not too worried but If your tall you might find it abit uncomfortable in the passenger seat. Not sure if anyone has experienced that before.
Thank you for a great review. First time to your site. We are definitely looking at the hybrid now after being unsure. Could have one sooner rather than later.
Interesting to see the varying fuel efficiency in the comments - from 4.8 to 6.3. I would like to know about basic off-road capability. Is AWD much better than FWD?
Got mine, cruiser hybrid 2wd 2021 but I wanted the edge in black with panoramic sunroof, I wasn’t sure about the fuel consumption I’d definitely love to see a review of yours on that. Thanks for a great review.
Ordered the 2021 RAV4 Cruiser AWD model - forecast May 2021 delivery with the Dealership here in Brissy - going the Atomic Rush (aka red). Test drove the Cruiser 2WD version and loved it - my son loves the colour and the moon roof lol - ordered with all the bells and whistles on it too - very excited but I will have to wait a while lol
I have a 16’ Corolla Hybrid. I consistently get 870-920km per tank - yes I’m a mile hunter lol. I keep it at 22 degrees for daily driving and 24 degrees for chilly mornings and nights; 30 degrees when I’m dreaming of a European holiday ;)
CarExpert Keep tyres pumped up, minimal accelerator usage, as speed increases you can double tap accelerator to drop down power use (CVT gearboxes), if no traffic behind me I drive super slow, I use EV mode up hills and petrol engine on flat roads, I avoid 60kph+ roads - hybrids love slow peak hour traffic!!!
I just bought the new Yaris Cross Hybrid 2 wheel drive. I work in a service center for this brand and I really like the look of these cars, side and rear profile, Im not a massive fan of the front profile. I love the interior despite what others think of it (being hard plastic and colour of interior). I like where Toyota is heading in the new cars and it's technology. Also I like that Totoya took a risk in the Yaris Cross with its colour schemes for outside such as latte & electric blue and the interior with brown trims and a hard plastic look.
just love my RAV4 Hybrid 4X4 (i'm talking about UK versions so there might be slight differences) tested the CRV hybrid as i had a CRV before and the Toyota drives much nicer accelerates for overtaking and quieter on highway speeds only advantage that i found in the CRV was a bit more room on the back seats but not deal and breaking better and passenger seat adjustment i also found the possitioning of the infotainment monitor better in the RAV4 you don't have to take your eyes off the road to look at it. the heads on display on the CRV is nice but with the Map placed where it is in the RAV4 you don't really need it
Hi Paul, I am looking to buy RAV4 cruiser but I am confused on which one is best FWD or AWD. I am planning to move from Melbourne to Karratha (WA). Can you suggest me which one is the best. Thanks Paul in advance and thanks for the great review, this is the best review I saw on RUclips so far.
Same issues in the UK. I ordered my base model (Icon) on 13 Jun 2019 and still awaiting a delivery date. Also the base model price in the UK is £30970, (about 56000AUD).
Thanks everyone for your comments. I am looking to buy a mid sized SUV soon and the Rav 4 sounds great. Probably a very naive question but can a bull bar be fitted as I am moving out to western NSW?
Great review thanks. I have a cruiser hybrid AWD due for delivery late Feb, so looking fwd to owning this ride. Have you heard of any transmission problems with these vehicles?
Your right with the heater Paul, I've had 2 hybrid Camrys and just got the rav4 hybrid GX and you need to start the heater temperature on 25c to get warmth into the car ( in Melbourne ) and then reduce once it gets going Even the basic hybrid a very impressive and comfortable vehicle to drive 👍😷
Great review. The best Aussie car reviewer on RUclips - informative, fast pace, nice videography and best of all, a really likeable onscreen personality.
Thank you mate! We appreciate it.
Totally agree. We've watched a lot of clips lately, and we now go looking for Paul. Informative, friendly and knows his stuff.
carisacar ...easy it up a bit give him a big head 😜
You probably dont care at all but does anyone know a way to get back into an Instagram account??
I was stupid lost the account password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Jose Elisha Instablaster :)
Bec Flanagan you have made the right decision, I have owned some cars in my time but I love mine👍

Great review, Jonathan! Glad you're enjoying the new car.
Thank you! Enjoy the new wheels 😁
Picking up mine in september. Decided to go cruiser hybrid AWD, needless to say super excited and this video was super informative. Had no idea you could store the parcel shelf so easily!
Congrats on the purchase, Jack! Enjoy the car :-D
The only review channel I never skip anything. kudos mate🔥
Thanks mate!
Car reviews can't get any better than this...kudos to you Paul...
You’ve got to be the best reviewer there is, at least in the Southern Hemisphere! I love your work! 👍🍻
Hi, Im from NZ as well, which dealership did you use?
Both rav4 and crv are not good, compared to Mazda CX-5
@@TheDecenas I used a Botany dealership in Auckland!
Those who disliked are the owners of the subi hybrid who’d wished they had one of this.
Subaru hybrid, that is just the worst money pit ever, i can't even imagine how much junk is going to go bad and break on that thing, won't even make it to 150,000 miles.
Great review Paul. Just ordered One in the AWD spec with a 4-6 month wait. After owning three Touaregs, it will be an interesting transition.
Just brought one
Hybrid all wheel drive cruiser.
It goes into build in a month.
I’ve watched this video 4 or 5 times
I cannot wait to get it
Just ordered my awd rav 4 hybrid loved the review also made my mind up I have made the right choice will arrive at Christmas can’t wait
That’s impressive delivery time! It’s a great car and glad you’re enjoying it. Do you think it’s missing anything?
The panoramic sunroof available in the USA. The Canadian version only comes with a regular one. Can't wait the try the AWD in the winter.
How much that cost and is it AWD?
In Canada, all Hybrid Rav4s are AWD. I have the XLE middle trim which sells for $35,090 CAD.
I heard there is a fuel tank issue, when you fill up how many litres can you get in each time?
I like the design. In fact, I think it looks great for a Toyota.
I’m a fan too - it’s not boring or conservative, which is what Toyota has been about for too long!
The most reliable review I have ever follow. Not seen anyone giving review better than Paul. Cheers Paul, u always make our day. With the review. In b/w I have realised that the hybrid is also determined by the blue start button.
Great review ... we've just ordered the Edge AWD Hybrid .. hoping to get by Christmas '22.
We decided on the Jungle Khaki colour ...
I just purchased the Edge model. Apart from not having the Seat Position Memory function, its practically perfect for a small family.
Nice one, Ro Bo! Just out of interest, what made you skip on the hybrid variant?
@@CarExpertAus To be honest the Hybrid was my preferred choice however, as the car was a replacement of the Cruiser model (due to hail damage) we had no choice. There were apparently no Hyrbrid models in Australia for 8 months! Insurance was forced to upgrade.
It's strange that the top model doesn't come with Seat Pos Memory?
@@lennyho7479 i know right. Makes zero sense!
Congrats on your car. How long did you have to wait for it to arrive since ordering?
@@DS-iu4su ordered in mid November. Got the run around and virtually no dealer communication so mid April started looking at other dealer websites for ones in stock. Missed out on one but the other turned it around in 10 days. It is a lease so price wasnt that big of a concern - we haggled a little bit and they tossed in a full tank of petrol so happy all round.
Hey Leonard - really glad you're enjoying the new car! Which colour did you end up going for?
Nice! Yeah the PHEV will be great, looking forward to that one!
Nice work Paul!! All the best for the new Carexpert team!
We are loving our Rav4 XLE hybrid. We've owned it for 18 months, taken long trips, the system works flawless. It behaves great on the hyway and don't have to worry about the weather with four wheel drive. Great to haul large items (washing machine).

Any idea what that newer version will have over 2022? Thanks in advance
In saying that this purchase will not be for me :(
Many thanks again for taking the time to produce this segment. Kind regards Wayne S
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!
great review Pavle, the AWD can tow 1500kg!!!! Great review once again mate!
Thanks! 👍You're right!! 1500kg for the AWD.
In Canada the AWD hybrid can tow 750kg as opposed to the 480kg Paul mentioned in the review. The Trail (Adventure in the USA) model will tow 1500kg because of the dynamic torque vectoring on that model only. I've watched countless youtube videos on the Rav4's..... sometimes it pays off mate. lol
This new channel is great. Keep up the honest, comprehensive and engaging work Paul!

Awesome review. Leaning toward buying one but I'm spending most of the year in Ireland, which is awkwardly right hand drive, so probably going to stick with my 08 Civic sedan.
Nothing wrong with being on the "right" side of the road.... imho :)
Great to hear, Rainer! Keep us posted on your purchase and how it all goes :-D
it is worth it to wait, I have a 2020 Rava 4 Hybrid got it around February.
Thanks for that - I have been so indecisive about the AWD
The AWD version has superior towing stats, if that is important to you.
I have an older 2009 RAV and it feels like a new car, super smooth on the road and plenty of zip. Great cars the RAVs. Just a great wagon - can do virtually anything. I didn’t specifically target a RAV, and needed a 12mth fill in car, but based on how good this one is, seriously considering trading up to a new hybrid
Great review mate
I was looking for a more reliable wagon alternative to my old Volvo V50. It was nickle and diming me to death. Eventually decided, even though I was looking for a wagon instead of a crossover, on a 2012 Rav4. Great car that fit my needs the best.

The hybrid model comes standard with awd it doesn’t need the knob. Uses electric motors on the rear wheels unlike the regular gasoline/petrol model that’s mechanical.
In Australia there is a front-wheel drive hybrid and the availability of an all-wheel drive.

We got the same car you reviewed but in the Graphite. Had it since March, waited six months which was understandable considering the popularity of the Rav 4 Hybrid. Love the car, only down side is the engine grunt when you need to put your foot down.
Nice one! How are you liking the package so far and what was the dealer experience like?
3. Active cruise control
Bad points
1. Not enough storage pockets up front.
2. Spacesaver spare
3. Lane assist. Car wanders too much and LA drops out frequently
Hi Jim - we first heard about this issue after publishing this review. We will make sure we mention it in future reviews.
@@CarExpertAus You should add it to this review, if you care about providing honest information to your viewers.
Great, comprehensive report. Thanks.
Many thanks!
Currently driving at Toyota conquest with a whopping 6752000 km on the clock and I love it
Great review buddy. Very helpful information and a balanced analysis.
Ordered Cruiser Hybrid AWD electic blue and will be arriving around May
Thanks Paul.
So much information..love ur video..looking for a rav4 hybrid and uv presented all details ..thanks a lot
Hi Paul! What a great looking car! Awesome review. Keep up the great work!
Great review Paul. With such impressive numbers., it will not surprise anyone why this SUV is selling so well.
I'm 188 and uncomfortable in the passenger seat. The only option is to recline the seat back but I don't like to travel that way!
Good review again.
Be good if you guys could do rav4 edge review as well?
Not a bad idea, @0bts0! We'll see if we can get our hands on one. Some people may not be a fan of the hybrid option - especially if towing.
@@CarExpertAus The AWD hybrid has the full 750kg unbraked, 1500kg braked tow option
Thank you for a great review. First time to your site. We are definitely looking at the hybrid now after being unsure. Could have one sooner rather than later.
Glad you found it helpful!
Great video Paul. 🏁
Thanks, mate!
How much did you end up paying?
I have a 16’ Corolla Hybrid. I consistently get 870-920km per tank - yes I’m a mile hunter lol. I keep it at 22 degrees for daily driving and 24 degrees for chilly mornings and nights; 30 degrees when I’m dreaming of a European holiday ;)
Nice one! What are you tips for bringing consumption down?
Also I like that Totoya took a risk in the Yaris Cross with its colour schemes for outside such as latte & electric blue and the interior with brown trims and a hard plastic look.
just love my RAV4 Hybrid 4X4 (i'm talking about UK versions so there might be slight differences) tested the CRV hybrid as i had a CRV before and the Toyota drives much nicer accelerates for overtaking and quieter on highway speeds only advantage that i found in the CRV was a bit more room on the back seats but not deal and breaking better and passenger seat adjustment
i also found the possitioning of the infotainment monitor better in the RAV4 you don't have to take your eyes off the road to look at it. the heads on display on the CRV is nice but with the Map placed where it is in the RAV4 you don't really need it
Great feedback, Amram!
Great review. We have ordered a 2022 cruiser AWD hybrid pearl white with nutmeg interior delivery sep 2022
i love the look of this car in the dark blue or grey. Could do with less black plastic however.
The dark blue looks really great - Toyota has actually delivered with some great colour options for a change!
Thanks everyone for your comments. I am looking to buy a mid sized SUV soon and the Rav 4 sounds great. Probably a very naive question but can a bull bar be fitted as I am moving out to western NSW?
Ordered the 2022 RAV4 Edge Hybrid AWD Atomic Rush with Orchid Brown/Light grey interior. Delivery in March.
Great review thanks. I have a cruiser hybrid AWD due for delivery late Feb, so looking fwd to owning this ride. Have you heard of any transmission problems with these vehicles?
Most useful review, informative and balanced.
Thanks for the review. Just purchased the cruise AWD in metallic white. $60k. Due Nov 2004. Hope she’s worth the wait.
Your right with the heater Paul,
I've had 2 hybrid Camrys and just got the rav4 hybrid GX and you need to start the heater temperature on 25c to get warmth into the car ( in Melbourne ) and then reduce once it gets going
Even the basic hybrid a very impressive and comfortable vehicle to drive 👍😷
