I'm from the United States, and I myself have fallen in love with Russia and it's culture, and their anthem clearly expresses the proud and strong hearts of the Russian people. :)
@Dukewysh, the first set of lyrics was composed during World War II and was full of praise for Stalin. When Stalin died, the anthem was played without any words until the 1970's, when another set of lyrics was composed. The current lyrics were composed after the fall of Communism.
This is one of the best national anthems on this planet. I listen to it almost every day as I am trying to memorize it using the transliteration provided in this video.

This anthem would have to be the most intense i have ever heard. The sound of it conjures up very glorious images actually. Always has been and always will be my favorite.
@nativepoint14 yeah i think it might be because the soviet version mentions stalin and lenin and maybe because russia is no longer technically communist, they felt they had to change it. I like the words in this one the part where it says " There is nobody in the world like you, you are the only one" and also the part : " "We are strengthened by our faith in our homeland" ... I'm not the greatest at translations, but I think that's close enough ^_^

And it was not a national guard division, The museum in archangelsk, has a british tank as its centerpiece. read up on the divisions history, the are known as custard's division.

@jmichal2 Actually us germans did NOT. The "Deutschlandlied" consists of 3 stanzas. During the reich the whole song was the anthem. Nowadays only the 3rd stanza is the anthem, the rest is NOT part of our anthem.

They use the same music, actually Putin return the original music after Boris Yeltsin made a completely different Russian anthem at about 1991 to 2000. The Phrase Slavsya Otechestvo Nashe Svobodnoye survivied the revision of the National anthem, it was part of the Bolshevik anthem(not the Internationale), part of the 1944 anthem or the Stalin's anthem, part of the 1977 version which is the accepted Soviet anthem during the U.S.S.R. period.
Dear Russian speakers, I took up the Russian language a couple of months ago (it's BRUTAL), and so far can speak some simple conversations. However, I still can't roll my R's. Is it acceptable to roll an 'L' in place of the 'R', or is that considered disrespectful to a Russian? No matter how hard I try, it's just impossible for me to get that R rolled. Can I get away with a rolled 'L' or am I just making myself look like an idiot to a Russian? Thx... Brian

The soviet union is russia + other smaller countries. but the leader of the soviet union was russian therefore it is russia's anthem. in fact, in the west it was often referred to as soviet russia. The Russian Federation is the so called continuation state in exercising the rights and fulfilling the obligations of the former USSR. USSR turned into Russia basically.

The best anthem ever, I'm learning the words purely for personal pleasure. Such an amazing song. Brilliant words and brilliant music. Russia is probably one of the most underrated countries in the world, which is a shame, because with a bit more understanding, I think the rest of the world could learn something from the Russians.
abosloutly stunning song. makes me cry because I haven't seen my family in russia since I was 6 years old. Moved to canada with my mom and haven't been able to go back since. But God willing, I will go back soon and see my father, grandmother, cousins, uncles, aunts, and visit the city I was born in.

This song has been my favorite for 3 years, starting on the time that I learned it. And It's predecessor, the Soviet Anthem, I love that also.

You can find translations (which, as far as I could see, were quite accurate) of both the original (USSR) and the new versions on Wikipedia.
i like the way the lyrics are done in the latin alphabet instead of cyrrilic, makes it so much easier for me to learn this anthem!!
