Good to see how you do you construct your veggie structures. The thing I like about RUclips, you get good ideas of all the gardeners. That’s a good deal from Keith Morgan from Easynets. I might have to get my credit card out and buy some more🤣🤣 All the best Nic 👍
Thanks for sharing Nigel. Easy nets isn't far from us, bout 30 minutes drive. We need some enviro mesh for everything this year as lost a lot of leeks and onions already. Love the blue piping, have it on a lot of our beds 💙 We did one of your net covers with line pins and guttering last year and it was great. It just looks amazing! 👏🏽 Thanks for sharing Nigel, stay warm Rach 🌱👩🏼🌾
during my working life i actually had nothing spare financially for any form of netting. even my seed supply was by means of christmas and birthday presents. since retiring, things have changed considerably for the better, nigel. i've thought about the need for netting and decided i've gone this long without it ( just like my grandad ). my biggest problem has always been cats and pigeons, so i invested in a cat scarer. this also seems to scare pigeons (but not the robin ).this seems to have taken care of my biggest problem. as for aphids, etc, i've opted for companion planting. i would use netting as a wind break. our grandparents played a bigger role in our education than even THEY really expected. i feel blessed to have had such grandparents......................brian
Always good to look back and appreciate the things we had Brian. Allium leaf minor or carrot root fly are the main pest in our area and netting is the only effective method I’ve found. Tried companion plant in greenhouse with marigolds and tomatoes but that was only partially successful.
Thanks Nigel that was really interesting. We’re down on the South Coast and lost all our alliums a couple of years back to the leaf minor so now use the really fine Enviromesh and so far it’s done the job 🤞
Thanks for some excellent ideas. My worst pests are cabbage whites and caterpillars. I’ve even removed munching caterpillars of a few weeks ago after hard frosts😳 And they’re under scaffold netting 🤷♀️
@@MuddyBootz No squirrels as such nor small birds. I wonder if that's because of the very open nature of our site - plus the fact that there's nearly always buzzards or red kites in the sky?
Thanks for the details, we have gradually had a lots of our crops destroyed year on year by not only pigeons and latterly squirrels, loads of great ideas thank you
Nigel I’ve learned so much in that video Thank You. You sound quite local to me 😂 My husband asks what football team do you support? I’ve told him to mind it! But secretly I’m hoping you’re not a Villa supporter ok or West Brom or even Birmingham City! Don’t answer that unless it’s the right team and then we’re good to go 😂 Seriously I’m kidding 😂 Cheers!
Great to hear your opinion on the netting from Easynets. I've used scaffold netting for years but this winter I've bought 2 lots of 5.2 by 10 meters of the insect netting. It seems really good quality & I'm interested to see how they perform.
Hi Nigel. Love the videos. We are both avid followers. Can you tell me what type of clips you used to attach one mdpe pipe to another when constructing a hoop netting house? Couldn’t find the clip on your channel. TIA
Thanks Nigel. No allotment here but just moved to a house with a good sized garden so in the very early stages of setting up all sorts of veggie beds. Too ill to bend much now so raised beds will be going in and seeing how to protect the growing plants was brilliant. Think birds will be an issue here but have two small questions. If you were just starting off, which would, in your opinion, be the most effective cover and does that smaller mesh stop sawfly. Have been plagued with gooseberry sawfly here in Scotland to such an extent that, if I get no fruit this year, I’m giving up on them.
Fantastic information. My leeks were got by the allium leaf miner (I think), so have been wondering what sort of netting to get... You've sorted it for me!! H x
@MuddyBootz I found the scaffolding mesh let's in the aphids and whitefly, got them all over my brassicas one year and changed to the fine white mesh, brilliant stuff
I have tried companion planting in the past, but found it hit and miss. Particularly with onions you only get one chance so the fine mesh seems the only option 😊
Hi nigel. Great info. Can I pick your brain regarding self watering pot? Do you still give a weekly feed from the top or do you add it to the reservoir?

Hi Nigel, very good video about what & how you use protection from plants. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

Brilliant video , Nigel . I found it very interesting and so helpful to see and hear direct information. Thank you very much. 🌟
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
What a great video, the cage construction with the use of guttering is brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve tried a few different designs but this came out best 👍🏻

You are so welcome! 😊
excellent video, some great ideas
So many cover to use but the envromesh is so good now. great video mate
I often wonder how long it is before everything needs to be covered. How times I’ve changed 😫
Good info nigel thanks.
Glad it was helpful!

Great overview Nigel!
Brilliant, informative video- thanks Nigel, you’ve got a new subscriber here
Thanks and welcome 😊
My main reason for netting is the flying rats!!! I can deal with everything else but pigeons are a pain.
We are getting more squirrels as time passes

@@DigwellGreenfingers squirrels are always around the bird feeders. We got a local sparrowhawk that keeps the pigeons on the 👀 lookout 😉
Thanks Nigel for a really informative video, I’ve no doubt now what to purchase 👍
Great video! Can’t tel you how useful that’s been.
EXCELLENT VID VERY INFORMATIVE

I bought some fleece that melted when it rained, so now only get the heavier gsm.
There is some cheap rubbish items out there. I got some from China and it ripped whilst I was fitting it

Hi Donna, I would definitely go for the fine insect mesh. Keeping sawfly out should be no problem 👍🏻

What do you glue the 2 polycarbonate sheet layers together with? Thanks for all this info.
I try to use a complete sheet but in the past I have used a contact adhesive (Evo-stick)
Thank you! Great video. Do you consider compaion planting to help combat unwanted pests?

Hi nigel. Great info.

Hi Fergus, I put a 25% diluted feed permanently in the reservoirs but feed from above once a week with full strength 👍🏻
