  • @MrFlabbJack
    @MrFlabbJack Год назад +32

    Good and intuitive video. In my opinion, one of the most important factors is to bend the ankles to get a pressure between the shin and the boot and to have a pointed knee in the entrance of the turn. Bending the knee without tongue pressure means you have a "toilet position" with difficulties getting a good edge grip and carving turn. Make sure the hip is forward enough to have the weight on the front foot and not on the heels.

    • @SkiTipsFromMorgan
      @SkiTipsFromMorgan Год назад +1

      Exactly… that bend will vary based on body types. I promote a proportionate use of the ankle, knee and hip to allow for the best structural alignment. Most people over use the ankle and rely on the boot to hold them up.

    • @MrFlabbJack
      @MrFlabbJack Год назад +1

      @@SkiTipsFromMorgan thanks for your reply. Big variations between skiers, but my experience is that the knee and hip bend follow if you bend the ankle and that the biggest difference between a good skier and a half-good one is precisely that you don't have pressure and contact between the shin bone and the boot. If you don't have this, it is pretty much impossible to get a good carving turn. Will follow you as the video was good and that you never become a complete ski instructor.

    Just wanted to say a massive thank you to you Morgan
    Apologies in advance if I bore you all to death
    I go skiing in a group of 15, I’m the oldest at 57 and the worse skier out of us all
    On steeper runs like reds my legs
    get tired so easy and I end up falling all the time everyone is then stood around waiting and that really knocks your confidence
    Over the last couple of months I have been watching many RUclips videos to try and help me improve
    I kept going back to yours Morgan as you made it very easy to understand and made a lot sense
    Today was our first day of our ski holiday and I tried to memorise all the tips you had shared and OMG I have never skied as well after about the third run every one was stood there in shock as I went flying by
    Everyone thought I’d had many private lessons
    I was so proud today especially skiing safety down the red runs and keeping up with everyone
    I can’t thank you enough Morgan for helping me gain my confidence it meant so much today x

      I’ve just come down the last run of the day to be told it was a black run no one could believe it, my nephew said what have you done with my aunty….
      I said it’s all down to Morgan ( I did get a few strange looks 😂 but I don’t care it’s taken me 18 years to ski like I have in the last couple of days
      It’s such an amazing feeling I can’t thank you enough 🙏

    the best carving tips I have ever gotten was to have a wider stance and just the inside knee away from your downhill knee as far as your skis are apart. and drive the downhill ski big toe on your foot down once you're in your turn.
    this really worked for me.

    Good stuff. I would add to find a set of very simple drills that focus on one thing only. Hands position, edging, whatever. Start your session practicing it on an easy slope for ten minutes or more if you're not bored.
    Then just forget about it and go skiing. this gets good habits into your muscle memory and you'll start to use them auto-magically.

    As I continue to get older and not as athletic as a young adult, I have found that it is easier to just twist my skis from side to side while my body faces straight down the hill. This way I can control speed on steep or icy slopes. It also takes much less energy and leg strength of up and down, and thus I can last most the day. I also apply this on the moguls. My advice to older skiers. Loved your vid, thx.

      The word "carve" can cause some confusion. On a truly steep slope part of the turn is a skid, otherwise you will not be able to control your speed. On the steeps using your poles, bending your knees and always looking down and facing down the slope is the key. Don't lean back.

If you can’t turn much then your on a slope that’s too difficult for you and your learning nothing and not having fun. I call it “just trying to get to the bottom”.

    Great Video. When I get into steeper terrain and the snow is harsh, I sometime stand across the slope and still move almost straight forward down the falling. How can I safely engage the edge and not slip away?
    I have no issues on any other snow (besides ice patches obviously) but this harsh stuff is difficult.
    Edges are tuned and I try to put most weight in my outside ski...

    • @SkiTipsFromMorgan
      @SkiTipsFromMorgan Год назад +2

      What I have found for the reason why we slip on the ice is because we tried to increase the edge angle, which will ultimately break away. What I try to do is have less edge. Another is during those difficult icy areas is to move on to the next turn as quickly as possible. I will film an IPhone video on this and share in on my RUclips channel as well as on the Facebook CARV community group.

    Could you elaborate the first tip on how to use all joints, I have been trying this for a couple of days but haven’t got the hang of it. Are there tips or exercises for this? Thanks anyways the tips helped a lot!!👍

    • @SkiTipsFromMorgan
      @SkiTipsFromMorgan Год назад

      Hello Siebe,
      You need to use ankle, knees and hip joints proportionally to maintain the ability to manage the forces of the turn. Most people over use the ankle joint and due to that the hip joint is under used. Think of an athletic stance which is as tall as you should ever get.
      If you have video of your skiing feel free to share it with me and I can give an appropriate exercise to help

    Can someone please clarify where to put pressure when doing turns? Outside ski, inside ski or evenly on both or, depends on the situation? I'd greatly appreciate it
