Great video you are so resilient and inspiring I’m really enjoying watching your hiking videos. After your difficult day I think you and Otto both deserve a medal for getting through intact. I was so pleased that you managed to get a room it was a really good end for the day. I think the cafe owners should be ashamed of themselves for not letting you inside the cafe it was very mean of them. Keep smiling 😊 👍
In all my time hiking in the Lake District I have NEVER had rain like had today. When ever I was in the Ennerdale area I always stayed at the Farm Campsite in Borrowdale it has always been so Peacefull and relaxing.
Well done Elli (and Otto) very tough walk for you with some disappointment, don't know how anyone could refuse you as you are such a lovely young lady. Another well presented video that i enjoyed thoroughly, very entertaining.
That’s a disgrace not letting you dry off, living here we are usually welcoming and I can believe that happened to you, I won’t be stopping there again
What horrible weather for you and Otto 😢 well done 👏 I am so annoyed with the cafe, not letting you and Otto in for warm-up ! What a disgusting, heartless, so-called human . Thank you for sharing ❤
Well done - I particularly admire the way you kept your spirits high throughout, in very trying conditions. Saddened at the way you were treated by the coffee shop miseries - you came across far kinder than they deserve. Keep walking👍
Another great video Elli and Otto, truly totally respect to you both with the weather honestly. Those of us who been in that situation too knows it's either cry or laugh, and mostly you just laugh because you can't do anything else just carry on. But as you did I do too if I totally wet and gear too always try and get a room for hot shower and warm bed . And Otto well he's so amazing how he keeps going . Really enjoy your smiles and laughter 😂. Toppers the both of you
Well done Elli and Otto. How mean not letting you both warm up. It’s horrible being cold and wet and a little bit of kindness goes a long way. Karma. X
Hi Elli, crossing the rushing waters and streams was breathtaking and probably a little dangerous. I was also impressed by how you can still be happy in such terrible weather. I hope that your next adventures are a little sunnier and warmer. Good luck Elly and keep it up! A loyal fan! 😊
Well done you two. River crossings when the river is in spare is scary. You always see the bright side even in the worst weather. The attitude of that tearoom was a disgrace. An area that relies on walkers to boost their economy should have businesses that are more amenable. Personally, I'd have told them where to shove it and found a bus shelter for a brew up.
Stirling effort there - that looked bad, even for the Lakes! That coffee shop owner should be ashamed and ideally named so that the rest of us walkers can avoid like the plague.
Hi, I will be walking the cumbrian way next spring. I live in carlisle and love the idea of walking home. Having said that I do wish that our council would make more of an effort for the finish line or a start line. As I think it would help with tourism and bring more hikers to the city. I've heard that most people now just walk to Keswick and leave the trail there. Great video. You did have some tough weather. Welcome to the lake district.
Elli I loved this video , you kept smiling though all that great Scottish weather ( rain ) 😂, felt sorry for your little four legged friend as he has very short legs , he must have been swimming most of that day . Keep your wonderful videos coming 👌
That was a tough hike thru that heavy rain, miserable, and then in Borrowdale being refused entry into that coffee shop. Hardly a recommendation to stop there folks, particularly when they advertise a hikers bar ! Keswick is one of my very favourite towns to spend time, lots of like minded folks to chat to. You are one resilient young woman. Love your stories, keep em coming please.
I don’t think I’ve ever been to the Lake District when it wasn’t raining! 🌧️ ⛰️ You did more of a paddle than a hike this time. Great presentation as always Elli. Thank you for sharing. Loverly to see little Otto fearlessly charging ahead through all that water. He’s become an quite a ‘Wasserhund’ 💦 🐕 Looking forward to the next (hopefully dry) challenge 👍🏻
Elli and Otto. Whatever the disappointment or difficulty that faces you on your hikes, you always face it with a smile, and that is so endearing, and somehow makes it easier for the viewer to make light of it. Being contained in a soaking tent when it is pouring down outside is not pleasant, but you have a wonderful companion and will know that the rain will soon stop. Fingers and toes crossed. It's a great vlog though. Cheers. Sheffield South Yorkshire. But it didn't stop - it got wetter and wetter. Fantastic atmospheric scenery though. You both deserve a medal.
This is often why camping is only great fun in hindsight. Later, when you tell the stories of this rainy wet adventure, you will have a great laugh. But living through it is really tough. Keep up the lovely smile. Thankfully the good days always outbalance the bad. Head down and carry on :)
I have total respect for you and Otto. I’ve walked most of the Cumbria way (from Ulverston to Sebergham) the reason I missed the last bit was because I had developed a shin splint before I even reached Keswick that was so painful I ended up using my walking poles like crutches. I tried to complete the last day from Caldbeck to Carlisle but I just got slower and slower and literally I couldn’t walk any further. I agree with you Elli that there are better paths and trails in the Lakes and I felt I’d had the best of The Cumbria Way 😊 can’t wait to see your coast to coast vlog ❤
Really nice film again, I love how Otto wags his tail throughout the deluge. Brings back many memories of doing those trails in the same abysmal weather, but my last time through Langdale and the excellent campsite was dry, cold and clear….in November! So you can never tell. Apart from (mostly) your TGO hike, you picked a rotten year for weather, but in the other hand, there’s nearly always a good day to keep one going. Looking forward to C2C.
Great video Ellie. Such a shame about the weather. I’m currently in the Lakes staying in Keswick & the weather is glorious & is due to stay that way all week.
You did a sterling job!! The Lake District is never to be taken lightly. You made the right decision looking out for Otto at the beginning...and then the Lakes threw everything it could at you, but you and Otto battled through. Well done. 👍
Hi Elli I watch your videos I don’t usually comment. But I have to give you my respect in dealing with the weather & situations you and Otto get into. Keep it up. I love the outdoors myself,so I know how miserable it can be. Thanks. 😀
Lovely video, we done it the weekend before you I believe and the path was mostly dry. Only the occasional wet foot. We also recommend using GPS for the hike. We have our video dropping Tuesday if interested to see what it’s like on drier days
Thank you Elli and congratulations on making it to Carlisle- what horrible weather! I had a similar experience on the WHW recently. We had absolutely non-stop torrential rain and went to a cafe right on the trail to warm up and was told to sit outside in the freezing cold rain and bitter winds . Our chips and coffee were cold in about 30 seconds flat! There were plenty of free tables inside too. I don't know what we did, but it's so mean isn't it 😔 (Especially when you pay just like anyone else.) Anyway, I'm glad you both made it in one piece and hope you had better luck on the C2C! (I look forward to seeing the adventure soon.)
Hi, Well done for completing the hike. You can get those conditions unfortunately and normally you would just sit it out. Very disappointed about the cafe stop considering it's a hiking area. Good that you had some sunshine afterwards! I would agree with your view on the Cumbria way. A lot of it is outside the national park and it would be better making up your own lake district route.
Elli it was such a shame about all that rain. We experienced the same last September. You are absolutely right in your summing up at the end - a few days hiking in the Lake District National park should not be missed. Having several years experience ‘doing’ the Wainwrights (twice) we can tell you it is not a place that anyone would be disappointed with.
So Ellie what is next ? The Pennine Way or maybe the South West Coastal Path ? The Pennine Way I have done before but never got round to the S W Coastal Path. Thank You for your company over the last few days, I enjoying seeing some new sites and maybe if I was 20 years younger I too could see myself doing the Cumbria Way. Tony the Retired Hiker
I've already hiked them both, the PW last year and the SWCP in 2022 :) Currently planning my hikes next year, definitely doing some more hiking in Wales and Scotland with Otto! Thank you so much for following along :)
My partner was walking on Dartmoor a few days ago and the rain was horrible - mist, unable to find the trail, walking around in circles! An eight mile trek turned into 14 / 15 miles of wet misery. But she and companions were so chuffed to have overcome their physical and mental difficulties. They raved about their trip for days! Now, I can so relate to your journey through the rains and soaked trails. Bravo Elli and Otto! M.
It was a shame you walked that 1st section without views, it is gorgeous. I went up Langstrath on the side you were on & back down the other side at the end of July & it was very warm & sunny (sorry 😁). Glad it was a lovely day for your day over the Northern fells, that path traversing the side of Lonscale fell is superb. I always think the Caldew valley in amongst those Northern fells has more of a Scottish glen vibe about it than an English valley. Otto is such a little star making it through those conditions. I hope you can return to the Lakes some time in better weather. There are so many stunning locations I could recommend. Wonderful video Elli xx
Wow I don’t think I’ve ever seen Langstrath that wet! Glad you managed to see some of the area in good weather. Langstrath is a beautiful valley - a favourite swanning spot when the sun is out. Totally agree with your summary of the Cumbria Way - those 2 days would be better spent within the park. Don’t understand how a café would not let you sit inside - it’s the lake District, it rains a lot & their customers will be mostly wet hikers! Oh well Hope you get back to the fells sometime soon though.
great video again - I've been flooded out of that campsite before! epic effort over stakes pass tho - defo type 2 fun! re that tearoom - seems things don't change over the years - many businesses in the lakes have always had a very bad attitude ime
Hey I’ve got the durston two person tent and I’ve used it for more than two months in Ireland this summer and it unfortunately leaks with rain that is not even that heavy 😢
Definitely a baptism of fire for Lakeland. You really must go back and see the Borrowdale area in decent weather, it's the heart of the Lakes. I do hope the C2C treated you better. My first visit to the Lakes was a 5-day circular tour in 1978, staying in Youth Hostels and climbing several of the peaks, it was my first solo backpacking trip and still counts as one of my best trips ever. But there are so many paths plotting your own route is very easy. PS. The "walkers cafe" that made you sit outside is a disgrace! Walkers get wet, if they want their custom they should get used to it!
Great vid again, thank you. A real insight into some of the highs and lows of hiking - well done on getting through. Interesting final thoughts on the Cumbria Way - I completely agree that it would be better without the first and last days, though they do mean that you can easily get the train back to Ulverston
It's character-building, Elli. I used to book all B&B's or hotels ahead, which meant you were stuck to a schedule, but at least had a bed at the end of the day. Have you seen the St Cuthbert's Way, ending in Lindisfarne, an island in the middle of the sea?
Incredible to see, thanks Elli & Otto Yup, like you say, a fair introduction to the Lakes (the clue's in the name 😉). I wonder if there's a circular walk. How dreadfully you were treated at that café in Borrowdale, you haven't named it so neither will I but many of us on here will know it. You presented as a hiker possibly becoming hypothermic due to very adverse weather and yet you and your wee dog were, in essence turned away, what a crass, appallingly mean-minded thing to do. I feel so angry, they could have done so much to help you, I hope they didn't charge you for that hot drink. Rant over! Well done both of you.

Yes, definitely!! Had planned it for this year originally as a third coast to coast hike after my TGOC and Wainwright's C2C, but had to change my plans. But definitely want to do it :)

That's mad that a "walkers bar" wouldn't let you inside. Name and shame!
Funny that they write on their website „Walkers, cyclists, visitors - all are welcome … you’re sure to find a welcome greeting …“.
Presumably they didn’t want all the windows steaming up as the wet clothes dried, but still surprising considering it’s on a walking route!
