Why? Why do the most beautiful romances always end in someone tragically dying? Why can't people just live out perfectly happy lives with the ones they love? Get married, have families, raise kids, grow out, and die peacefully in their sleep? Why is it that the ones who don't deserve to see the beauty in this world never perish until they destroy every bit of happiness left?

@@Lili_ia well if we want to analyze it. Nana is a fiction, a story made up for us to read it, it means that no matter how it can mimic reality, it isn't and for this reason is interesting to us. Nana, as every story, is made by conflict and chaos. With peace, there was no story to tell

I can't stand Takumi so when Hachi decided to stay with him (WHY?) and have his child, leaving Nobu, the one who really loved her, I couldn't continue watching and I read a summary of the rest.
The writer was so cruel with her readers ;__;
MrAxemable She was actually just being realistic and trying to force some of the many problems women (and men) in Japan have this day and age. Many women like NanaK make the same type choices. It isn't ideal and it isn't what we would want but you see this happen with people all the time and the writer is definitely not an idealist. I like how she actually shows the consequences of those choices instead of sugar coating things. Ren's outcome was another one. Japan has a big drug and an even bigger alcohol problem. The alcohol problem is even more exasperated when in a work situation it is considered rude to turn down an offer from someone with authority or more experience than you when they request you go to the bar with them. Many Japanese men end up becoming alcoholics because that mindset is thrust on them. Japan also has a huge suicide rate because of stress involved in "making your own way" and "not being a burden on others and society" and the fact with Japan having been in a huge recession for the last 30 years those aren't exactly easy goals to achieve. Many of those that thankfully don't turn to suicide end up turning to drugs. The author is dealing with the consequences of these types of choices in an indirect way. If you know a lot about their society you can really see the goal of the writer.
Adding to Myriad, in one chapter it is explained that she chose takumi because of that moment nana was crying in her bedroom. Nobu didnt trust her and for that reason she didnt respond nobu's concern. He left her there. Nana also didn't come with nobu. Takumi was the only one there for her and he was willing to accept the baby as his.
I still don't like Takuma tho. That cheating rapist tch. Well the future Takumi seems more mature.
I hate the "if only"s! If only Nobu had stayed to talk things out. If only nana had been there for hachi to make the best choice. Or if Hachi hadn't stayed silent and let nobu think the worst..

I was watching the anime and I kinda spoiled it for myself because I was looking through the nana tag and I saw that Ren dies and I couldn't continue watching it because I really wanted Nana O. To be happy. Of all the couples I was rooting for Nana and Ren the most.

Same I was starting to watch episode 21 and i found out so i quit the anime. I also found out Nana has two children with Takumi and still cheats on her. I don't want a depressing anime like this. It happens in real life so it's horrible for those people.

Everyone should read the chapter. Some parts were left out of this video (like Takumi and Nobu going to see the body, and Hachi comforting Shin after he breaks down in the hospital waiting area).

I watched this more than 10 years ago and remember I was so freaking shocked even tho I've never read the manga and spoiled myself lol I loved Ren so much and knowing this destroyed me back then.
Now that I re-watch this, I cannot help but cry. This whole thing is still destructive, I will never get over it.
Also, the last song "Last Kiss".. I still have it on my playlist thanks to this video since back then and everytime I listen to it, well... fck, I remember Ren.

Thank you for the whole series. It was a surprising pleasure to follow the adventures of Hachiko, Nana, Ren, Yasu, Nobu, Reira and more...so sad Ren had to die like that but he seems to be the one who bottled up way too much and didn't speak to anyone. Though, where is Takumi in all that??
The video left his scenes out, he basically deals with all the logistics and damage control, like he always does. He´s also the one, with Nobu, that go to recognize the body and notices that his hands are intact so it genuilly was an accident (Ren was strugglin at the moment so they didn´t know if he crashed on purpose), then forbids everyone to see him, since he´s in a very bad state, which is why Ren is covered.

I cheated and found out like a year before it was released in America that he passed and it still upsets me to this day and now the whole series is like on hiatus I'm like come on Ai Yazawa you can't just stop the series right at the critical part. What happens do the Nana's re-unite does Hachi leave Takumi for Nobu do Nana and Yasu get together???? and this is the best video because the music catches all the pain that everyone is feeling sooo sad...

Es de lo más triste, cuando leí el manga online, no lo podía creer, me puse a llorar y no podía parar, es tan feo y traumante la reacción de todos T-T
Reira is one of the most useless characters in my opinion. She threw a wrench through both Hachi and Nana's relationships and then breaks shin's heart and then sometimes leads Yasu on, LOL she made me soooo mad...
why dosen't the manga and the anime have the same story?? so frustrating... i love this anime/anime i started watching it but it has just 47 episodes and i don't feel like reading it... but this story is so touching T-T
@patrishia58 they had no affair as far as I know. he wanted to comfort her or something. I think he could better talk to reira. because of the drugs.
I can not anymore remember. he loves nana and she him. this is real love.
@nafanua123 Actually I didn't watch it, the title gave away the entire fucking ending of the series! Thats what I'm pissed off about ¬¬ No point me reading it now
I just finished the anime and this is the first thing I saw, I thought everyone just moved on their average separate lives... Hachi was the one with a half good ending (not even good)
