I appreciate the way you guys put this together. With the information given on Grigori it’s anyone’s best guess and I like what you did with it :). I would like to reference FinalFantasy8. There were many many theories on this game. Sam I love you so much but it would surprise me if you were more familiar with what I speak of than Pawned. There was a long running theory in FF8 that Squall the lead character was dead and the majority of the game that we experienced was a dream (KIND OF) this theory was acceptable to many including myself. ( it’s my favorite way to experience that game) BUT! A very big BUT! Over time the lead developer for FF8 answered all these questions and theories. It was all bullshit! Squall never died at all :) My point with all this is. Be careful my brother, you have been so far. I really love your lore videos and I hope that one day the developers may answer all your questions in the way the developers for FF8 did. You did a great job with this :)
Much love back John, really great to hear from you man. When it come to FF8 I'm totally clueless, so you're right. And when it come to Dogma lore, I have to lean on Pawn, Fate and Jappards with much greater knowledge than myself.
@@The_Rift you got the knowledge man. You’re super awesome at Dogma and have recognized the enemies patterns. That is a phenomenal feat that not many can notice. All that crap I mentioned is just lore nonsense. I only mentioned it to show my gratitude for how you put this video together man :)

And after all of it we can say that, yes, it was actual latin. lol I suspect all wyrmkin speak latin too but I'm still not ready to try and piece it all together. They get subtitles anyway, whether or not they're wholly accurate.

Losing against the Seneschal awards you the trophy "servitude". I'd assume that means if the Arisen loses to the Seneschal he/she is reborn as the great dragon, Whose destiny is to choose another "Arisen" to challenge and defeat the dragon repeating the cycle. And if the "Arisen" beats the Seneschal he/she takes that position and as long as they live as the Seneschal the worlds are at peace... But using godsbane killing yourself repeats the cycle.. You become the dragon, Your Pawn becomes the new Arisen, And the next Pawn will take the next arisens place and so it repeats... At least thats how I understand it.

@@Grimtale Beat this thing for the first time last weekend, so I figured that how it goes. That is why Dark Arisen area has bunch of different Arisen there. Also pawn system hints at this.
More or less, it's a framework based on both what we know of Grigori and of what we can reasonably piece together. I did my best not to embellish or put in personal hot takes beyond that. It was for narrative purposes, and setting up the reveal of the latin translation. Otherwise we know pitifully little for certain about his time before he became a dragon.
The whole god thing and becoming god turned me off from the game lore. The game play was tons of fun sadly in dragon dogma 2 they plan on getting rid of mystic knights so I'm out
@@ThePawnedPawn there was another video watching the announcement video and said mystic Knight will be changed to that if alchemist. I hope your right and its not true
Some neat details about Grigori himself: - He was more supportive of your mission than anyone else. Despite being the primary threat of the world, he was also the one urging you to do your best. - His access to all the high end spells implies he was a Sorcerer in his previous life. Similar case with Daimon being a Mystic Knight. - If you sacrifice your beloved to him, he will actually just leave you alone. He's genuinely not even going to terrorize your new kingdom. The Griffon, Cockatrice and the cultists attacks were not even his doing. - All Dragons in general will take offense if you try and refuse to participate in the Endless Chain. It's how we got Daimon to begin with. Although knowing Grigori, he's certainly going to be less of a dickhead about it than Grette. - If you thought the Dragon's job sucked ass, imagine being the Seneschal.

Dragon's Dogma. The most depressing lore I've ever seen. If you're a regular citizen, you're under threat of dying horribly to either monsters, the Brine or the Dragon itself. Somehow, it gets _worse_ when the Dragon dies. And there's no escape. This entire infinite multiverse with endless cycles is like that for the rest of eternity. If you're the Arisen, you're even worse off. You're destined to fight the Dragon and even if you succeed, the world gets fucked over. And the endgame of it all is to overthrow and become the Seneschal, probably the worst fucking job to be part of in any video game. Don't try to take a third option and refuse the cycle either. Daimon found that out the hard way. If you're the Dragon, you'll be spending the rest of your existence looking for someone who can kill you while you slowly lose the part of you that made you who you are, all serving a cycle that no one, not even God finds fun. Your whole existence is a reminder that you failed to bring down your Seneschal. Speaking of which... If you're the Seneschal, you pretty much have it the worst. I mentioned their job being absolute cheeks because you're stuck in the Rift for all of eternity governing the world. You're not allowed to directly mingle with your domain since you interfering would screw the world over. And you're all alone barring your Pawn. For eternity. At least, until you get put out of your misery by the next upcoming Arisen. And pray your successor isn't a massive douchebag like the Pathfinder. You know this world is fucked up when *DYING* is considered the _best option._

This game has always been high on nostalgia for me and I've always considered a bit flawed bit such a hidden gem of a great game!
Thank you for this content, it's very interesting, I've basically binged all of it!
Allows me to enjoy DD even more. I would expect you to do the same for a potential DD2?
Again, just wanted to show you my gratitude, Arisen.
Be well!
That's awesome to hear man, welcome! I can't wait to make content for DD2 one day - the Dogma community deserves a sequel.
@@The_Rift Sure does. I will honestly probably shed tears at a reveal event. Imagine one of those trailers where it's not immediately apparent it's DD but some hints give it away for the fans and then the eventual title screen confirmation. What a blessed day that would be.
Grigori is really cool, nice video!
This is VaadiVitya level of videos, kudos! It's bonkers how it only got 14k views, it deserves a lot more.
WHY have I not seen this? Great work, Rift!
Bad luck maybe? We've shared it around but we certainly haven't spammed it. lol
Awesome as always!!!
Much love, team! ❤️
40% let this just sink in 40 fucking %
That demon dragon on background in thumbnail give me a lot of tears grinding when online still in service. You should see other dragons on dragon's dogma online. They might give more lore or be significant on next game if they make one.
Awesome video as always!
Awesome job on this video!
David Lodge will forever be the best voice in DD.
I got the chills! Great storytelling! :-D
reminder that the one we got was the cut down version of the og story, only 40% remained. the end seneschal was probably ending of act 1 with 3 acts in total. the true ending is the moon boss fight
this was great to watch thank you
I'm so proud of this!
Me too man, you guys make these videos great!
Amazing content, as always 🤜🤛
Cheers man, it was a true group effort ✊
I remember wheni first played the dlc for dragons dogma and got to the failing God. Funny enough a story similar to this one was on my mind as I fought him, always considered the great dragon as much a victim of the cycle as any human.
Fantastic as always!
The fact that wyrm speak is latin is so cool.
I know dude.
I agree. It'd have been more cool to have subtitles though. That was such a headache to figure out! lol
@@ThePawnedPawn Thank you, people would probably still not know what he said if you hadn't done the work.
@@malarkeyhippie3215 And now it's just a matter of getting the word out. lol
9000 views??? This is the sort of thing that deserves hundreds of thousands. So much effort put into the narrative and lore/storytelling just to be swept under??? Capcom should have advertised better...
Y’all gotta twitch or something? I wanna see y’all actually play the game
Not on twitch, but might actually do a full let's play livestream on yt soon.
I really liked the netflix version even though I don't like cgi style, but the story was pretty round with no room for a lot of theories, the red dragon curse!
I had no clue there was a Netflix series. Thanks for telling me, I cried like a bitch at the end.
One thing i hope is that the story/lore is a bit better represented in DD2.
It really feels like a lot of the story was missing in DDDA.
Also, great video. Im going through a lot of you lore videos. I love them!
It's not that it's missing so much as it's very well buried and hidden.
But I agree. I would welcome fewer headaches. lol
Grig is best drago
Very biblical and historical, Grigori a fallen angel ?!
Yeah, could be a way to look at his excistence.
If you look it that way.. the red dragon would represent satan.
But hey do we have to originate everything to the book of lies? (Bible)
I think people do that way to often.. doesnt matter what you would think off.. some clown would find a bible reference.😅
P.s. many of the wisdom is far older then that book.
Dragon dogma lore!? My impression of this game is a ghostly town and 1 guy along with 3 ai running around the town throw kick punch whoever get in their way 😅 honourable mention the deep hole that swallow 80% of the town villages
Am I early? Another great video! Cheers mate :)
Was Savan not an Arisen as well? I always wondered about him because he is the default Seneschal you face at the end of your first playthrough!
Yes he's arisen but his pawn doesn't become human like what we did...
Strange tho
@@gitgud4737 We don't know his pawn didn't become a human. Play through offline and you'll see your old pawn too despite them being made human.
@@gitgud4737 cuz he didn't sacrifice imself
I always tought about it as the never ending cycle the arisen that fails to become god but we never saw them only as the dragon.
Ma gad, there's another video
Wow that thumbnail are is fantastic
To me the ending felt really unsatisfying in some regards, the Senechal and the Cycle and so on, it leaves so many questions open. Also the scene where the my female pawn was suddenly in the body of my male mc potentially hooking up with the love interest was really weird.
za game cuts 40% of original story, the real final boss is the moon in the og script
@@Illaexur Oh really? Where can i read that og script?
@@DontKnow-hr5my i forgot, but check for dragon dogma cut content this channel has one vid ab it
Arisen has a cruel fate...=/ God if you win, fail you become Grigori, and you demise both you become the DLC... Endless cycle...
There really isn't a happy ending for the Arisen unless they just refuse to pursue the dragon.
@@ThePawnedPawn well ashen is free from maker and curse after we beat his dragon form
He is the only arisen have good ending
Very interesting take on the story.
It's largely guesswork using the context and clues we're given. I won't claim otherwise. What can be confirmed is stated as fact though. But the rest...it's what we're given to imagine.
I so like this damn game its one of my favorit its cool to now some guys play this game
Cheers my man, you always make my day :)
How did you get all these new cutscenes????????
what is the name of this great sword that seems to have scales? I've been looking for her in the game for a while
That's the Dragon's Bite: dragonsdogma.fandom.com/wiki/Dragon%27s_Bite
*Grigori sounds like Smaug* 😍😍😍😍
I didn't even know that there are subtitles for Grigori's lines in the beginning. O.o
There aren't. That was translated the hard way.
@@ThePawnedPawn So wait, was that actual latin then? Props to whoever went through the trouble of translating that. Also props to the devs for having it there in the first place.
@@Ivotas It was.
And thanks. I lead the charge on translating it, and Jappards did most of the actual translation work and I cleaned it up to something legible. Karathrax actually inspired the drive for it and others pitched in.
We also consulted (heavily) five or six different dictionaries and two pronunciation guides.
Still took literal weeks.
And after all of it we can say that, yes, it was actual latin. lol
I suspect all wyrmkin speak latin too but I'm still not ready to try and piece it all together. They get subtitles anyway, whether or not they're wholly accurate.
Where did you get the translation for his first speech?
That was a multiple weeks-long effort on the part of myself, Jappards, five different dictionaries, and a whole lot of aspirin.
It was a group effort by Jappards, Pawn and others over on our discord.
"...almost fatherly driving force..." Yeah, he reminds me of the time my own father beat me into submission then ripped my still beating heart from my chest and devoured it... good times...
Fascinating
At least thats how I understand it.
fun fact if you win against the senechal and use the godsbane on yourself instead of them, you get to see Girgori reborn again lol
That's not Grigori, that's you
i have 2 wishs for DD2 that tjey keep it in gransys and it looks pretty much the same like after the dragon but tjeyve rebuilt alil with the places were cut are now a part of the map and accessible number two some kind of crafting like fallout 4 or lil more like 76 build a lil settlement anywjere call it home
Quick question, what frickin' gear is that character wearing? The one with the Rift crest. And how do I obtain it?
It's custom made by LDK.Super.Dante.
He makes amazing mods for dogma on nexus.
@@The_Rift DANG IT! I have DDDA on switch. What's the name of the armor, anyway? I'm looking it up on the nexus site.
4:12 how do you get this cutscene? no matter what I do, he never shows up at that fortress for me.
Hmm, that's strange it's a scripted cutscene you should see every time.
@@The_Rift Was that the thing on the high wall?
Best Dragon ever
So why did he fail against the senechal? Also wher is that scene where the player falls and becomes a dragon? Is it edited or you can lose as well?
I still dont get it. Grigori is one and unique dragon or every arisen who failed to beat god become Grigori? Taking to the account that each new game after final fight we continue this eternal loop. The next question why all ppl are same in every new loop?
Add to that other worlds with their own Arisen and Dragons.
@@valder8423 you want to say that multiverse is real?
@@Grimtale I guess Bitterblack Isle kinda confirms this?
@@valder8423 I dunno, I've played DD in 2017 and barely remember anything about the plot of Bitterblack Isle.
@@Grimtale Beat this thing for the first time last weekend, so I figured that how it goes. That is why Dark Arisen area has bunch of different Arisen there. Also pawn system hints at this.
One of the best Dragons in video games and one of the best battles with a Dragon in a fantasy game
Grigori. Gregory. Greg. Greg the dragon.
slave to a broken order
Dare you look upon the truth?
@@ThePawnedPawn proceed dipping periapt in liquid vim oreo style maniacally
yeheaa boi..
And now in dd2 he is back... well so much for the peace he so desperately deserved, nope gotta murder him another 50 times to dragon forge all my gear
Wait so you just made up the whole first part about a solider or what?
More or less, it's a framework based on both what we know of Grigori and of what we can reasonably piece together.
I did my best not to embellish or put in personal hot takes beyond that. It was for narrative purposes, and setting up the reveal of the latin translation.
Otherwise we know pitifully little for certain about his time before he became a dragon.
GRIGOGI WAS WAY TOO EASY IN THE END
Still the most epic dragon fight in a game ever. 😁
Thousandth like
Tried Elden Ring got super bored, Dragon's Dogma has a Better rendition of magic, lore and fights eagering from the new one.
The whole god thing and becoming god turned me off from the game lore. The game play was tons of fun sadly in dragon dogma 2 they plan on getting rid of mystic knights so I'm out
That isn't confirmed as far as I'm aware. Don't put much stock in unofficial leaks.
@@ThePawnedPawn there was another video watching the announcement video and said mystic Knight will be changed to that if alchemist. I hope your right and its not true
@@ExelArts I'd as soon wait until somewhere closer to release before assuming anything at least. Right now there's just a lot of speculation.
@@ThePawnedPawn fair enough
Odd part to be turned off by as it is the central pillar that gives context to all the rest of the game's themes. It is an empty shell otherwise.
Oh gosh seeong alienore in that wcene is so distracting🤬🤬
Lol this was underwhelming. Not you, but the story. Makes me want to change plans about getting the new game.
This ain't it.
That was Dope. Thank you
Some neat details about Grigori himself:
- He was more supportive of your mission than anyone else.
I have other 4k hours in this game. I'm doing a play through right now as myself and my best friend as I'm getting into streaming and am really excited! I do no commentary so you can enjoy my gameplay and the game like a movie. I do comment in some or my games on accident. @OGGooseMave is the account.
