partial correct...the exaggerrated fear the people have doesn't come through fake news and conspiracy theories - the fear comes from brainwashing mass media news, it comes from believing everything what politics and the mass media infiltrates into the brains of people. it's obvious that almost everything what we see in the news and what we are getting told by politicians is a lie. people who don't get it during the last years are just totally brainwashed and lost. that's what this song and video is about.

When I first saw this, it really blew my mind, it's exactly what our elders have been warning us about. I love metal music but, RAMMSTEIN is something else, a sound of their own and I love it. I'm a musician from the Hopi Tewa people. I have a friend who I met from Austria and when I asked her what they were singing about, she was not happy. She said. "How come are you listening to their music." I told her it's keeping me alive. Sobriety date 1/26/2012

    Hey guys,
Let me give my thoughts on this:
    1. The song is about how certain "leaders" and media want to scare people to control them. In the video, this is visualised by the red wires, computer screens an TV. Also, the entertainig industry is helping (commercials, online shopping), represented by the cheerleaders.
    2. The dominant colors in the viedeo are black, white and red, which are the colors of the flag of the Kaiserreich and the Third Reich. Also, you can say that the world the people in this video are living in, is just black and white, no grey. It can be understood as a reference to the simple minded people who are for example voting for politicians who are telling them exactly this black/white view (WE are good, THEY are bad). Also, the band is dressed up as the stereotype of this kind of conservative people. Did you noticed that the world in the video changed to color when Till destroyed the TV?
    3. "Der schwarze Mann" (The black man) is a german synonym for a creepy, ghost-like evil. As in the first verse of the song, children are often told "to obey, or else the black man will get you". It can be translated to boogey man in english, but like often, there is another meaning in this context. As said, the video is about leaders who are seedeing fear of anything foreign in peoples minds. So, the phrase "black man" can also be interpreted literally, namely refugees. In my opinion, it is a reference to the migration crisis in 2015 in Germany,. Or just remember the plans for a wall on the Mexican border...
These are just the basics, everything else that is happening in the video is a result of this premisses. Greetings from Germany!

I don’t see any „leaders” in the video, or did I missed something?
In the first scene they are barbecuing in their gardens and talk to each other.
In the next scene they are glued to their screens and the conversation only takes place via social media (note the keyboard and mouse in front of the screen).
So the “neighbors” are not innocent but part of this “Angst process”. The message is more subtle then just: the media is bad and manipulating you. We are part of this escalation.

Lovely greetings you all. Because I am german I have a slight advantage for interpretation. Angst is translated Fear. In Germany we had a Childs Play in wich on Child called out "Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann" ( literal translation : Who is afraid of the black man. But the black man is the Boogyman, a malignent creature in a black Robe and not a black skinned Person. Sometimes this creature is seen as Death or Fear itself) . When the fist Child called this out everybody must answer with "Niemand" ( Nobody) and the fist child will call again "Und wenn er kommt?" ( and when he comes?) and everybody else calles again "Dann laufen wir." ( than we will run). After this the first child, standing in for this Boogyman, will try to catch the other children. Yeah a very dark ( so very traditional german ;) kind of playing Tag).
But as I know Rammstein and after seeing this Video, I think they might not speak about 'only' the Boogyman but literal black people, critizizing the irrational fear other ethnicitys or cultures awake in many peoples heart as seen in the first and last scenes of the Video, the fenced in Mother and Child that may stand in for Immigrants or refugees. Refugees are so often used in Politics to stoke fear and score some cheap political Points. Till stands here, at least in my interpretation, for the Politician, Media or Corporations who use this Tactics against the Polulation. He stokes the Fear on the one hand and sells the 'Solution' on the other Hand, the Bricks for the Walls and the Weapons.
There are so much more little Details, but I hope my Perspective helped a little, explaining the german roots of the words and the Childs-Play.

    Angst means fear, in german.
The lyrics "Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann?" Could be translated to "who s afraid of the Boogieman?"
So, the "schwarzer Mann" is the Boogieman? No, it's a little more complicated.
The figure of the "schwarzer Mann" is a inbeded in german culture. There's even a child's game, that goes like this: one child asks all the other kids "Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann? / Who's afraid of the Boogieman?", the other kids reply "Niemand! / Noone!". The first kid asks "Und wenn er kommt? / And if the comes to you?", and the group shouts "Dann laufen wir! / We will run away?", and they'll start to run...Ok, nice explanation, but what's the point?
The point is that you can not translate German to English, one on one. And there's a catch: "schwarzer Mann" means "Boogieman", but the direct translation is "black man".
There s a African mother and her child, surrounded by barb wire, at the beginning of the video. Then we are displayed to those lawnmower guys, the politician in the streight jacket and those creepy cear leaders.
The suburban lawnmower guys seem to be quite happy, at the start. But then we see how the media currupts them. The politician is warning, the schwarzer Mann is comingnout to get them! And those cheerleaders are just dancing with the tune and bringing by all the tools, the suburban guys suddenly need to defend themselfs. All of a sudden, those guys aren't happy anymore. They are raising up walls, supported by barb wires and need a lot of guns to defend themselfs... from their own fear of the black man.
So, in conclusion: the song, and the video is a critical view on right wing media in Germany, who s constantly firing up the fear of migrants. And the politicians, who are using the fear of the unknown - yeah, that Boogieman - to create hate against refugees.
Do you have those kind of politicians in the States, too?

    • @quarters-eye8922
      @quarters-eye8922 2 года назад

Its not the right wing media doing this. It is the Leftist Politicians in Germany that are stoking these fears. They have been doing it for years now. It isn’t the people on the right that caused the influx of African refugees and the crime that came with it. Typical of leftists to dig themselves into a shit pit, and blame conservatives for their problems.

Hello everyone. I'm German and I've known rammstein for so long that I can't even remember when I heard them for the first time. But one thing is for sure, they treat the first topics in their own way and leave room for interpretation, like in this song angst. in which they sing about the black man and no that has nothing to do with the color of the skin, it's about the boogeyman and fear itself. We are so busy in our time looking at our fears and our surroundings (media, radio, etc.) fuel this fear, and in the end we are so scared that we arm ourselves and shoot ourselves because we know nothing but fear. So mega cool the song is so bitter it is, but at the same time honest and real. Don't live in fear folks.

@@mbx6823 You got that candy thing right. As I have just read, this originally came to us from France in the 19th century and was called tête de nègre there. Somewhat colloquially similar for us. We've had debates over the last few years about whether we're still allowed to say something like that today. Some streets or pharmacies or meals in our country have names or designations that are no longer up to date. In my opinion, the band deliberately plays with this sweetness and it is not without reason that the focus of the sound is on the sound of the food. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've seen the video almost 50 times. Lots of reactions. Most people think it's "just" about fear and how it's spread through TV and the Internet. And only about the black man or bogeyman. They don't believe that the ambiguity of the word is being played with here, and that at least in the video the fear made of immigrants is being played up. Hardly anyone takes notice of the fact that the band always sits in a circle and the mother and child at the beginning and end in another circle. I do believe that the actual song is about the fear mongering in general. But in the video, in my opinion, they are presented in front of refugees.

Every time I watch this video I pick up another tiny detail that I've previously missed (Deutschland all over again!). Essentially, it's about people who have their own agenda, whipping up fear amongst the general population. It operates at all levels as well, starting with the innocuous Viking Thunderclap and the New Zealand Hakka used in sport to instil fear in opponents, the cheerleading forcing people to take one side or the other to the point where reasonable people become paranoid wrecks trapped in their own personal hell. The message that's been given out is be afraid of the bogeyman and the black man-fear whatever the current crisis happens to be whether it's COVID, fear your neighbours, the stranger in the street, fear asylum seekers and refugees, fear everything because it's all out to harm you. Everyone is watching everyone else and the only reason we're all doing so is because we're told to. The band are eating Schokokusse which are chocolate covered marshmallows, formerly called Negerkuss (very un-PC name indeed). They're so transfixed by what they're watching, their faces are smeared with the marshmallow while on the other side, the refugees are without food, watching them . The Schokokusse on the plate on the table are arranged in the same way that the band was arranged as suburbanites and in the same pattern as the symbol on Till's podium and the symbol shown on the computer screens. The smashing of the TV at the end-destroy the influence and you see a fuller picture. Rammstein at their heavy best, hammering home the message with their signature riffs, stunning drums and Till's voice is out of this world on this one. The accent repeated throughout sounds like the word "Du" or "You" is being repeated-You are afraid of the bogeyman/black man. The ideology isn't peculiar to just the US, it's pretty much the same across Europe. Xenophobia is rife here but the really stupid thing is that if you asked people exactly what the problem is, they tend not to give a logical answer in my experience-"They're taking all the best jobs AND they're taking our welfare payments" "What, all at the same time?". Bizarre!

(Copy & pasted from other reaction-comment I previously made)
    Just some remarks:
The several times mentioned "Schwarze Mann" ("black man") is known as a child fright figure in the German-speaking area ("Wer hat Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann" = Who does fear the black man). Depending on the region and time, it was understood to mean different beings: a dark shadowy figure or a man dressed in black. As a metaphor, the "bogeyman" reached a "peak" as personalization of evil, savagery, and the unknown in the course of colonization, and in the process also acquired a racist connotation. In this context, I find the consumption of those sweets (German so-called "negro kisses") at the end during the end credits very interesting, which work through this "black man" symbolism.
Also the colors usage is interesting (Black/White/Red representing the Nazi-color Spectrum). I also found it interesting at the end of the credits that when the TV was destroyed, the color came back into the picture.
Further, I noticed that the pie-like plots seen from above correspond to the "political symbol" at the lectern where the singer, wearing a straitjacket, gives his speech. After these borders & plots collapse during the wild shoot-out, the politician, unleashed by the straitjacket to spread his propaganda/fear.
Cheering on the cheerleaders is the equivalent of pitching an idea/product and the dancers are slammed with money to sell the bricks and guns to the landowners.
This Clip has many layers and can be interpreted in many directions. I see there is a statement on xenophobia and populism/media

Basically in simple terms this song is: Everyone is afraid of the Boogeyman. Who the Boogeyman is....is your interpretation of anyone or anything.

There is no exact meaning in poetry. But it's based on a children's game. I would say it's about the influence of social media on our fears of otherness or something. 😉

nah, there are no cheerleaders in germany, that wouldn't make sense, it is more universal. the little patch of grass, the grill, everybody mowing the grass at the same time, very german. but also american with the guns and such. also boogy man AND black people. isolationism, with the fences and walls, (trump's wall anybody?) it is quite universal, Hungary also comes to mind with the resistance against refugees from Syria, etc. I am afraid this is quite universal.

Think of it like this: The cheerleaders are US/Nato , schwartze man/boogey man is russia. And The speaker on podium is media. Now think of the artists being sweden and finland. Suddenly this video gets a whole other meaning, I still bang it out as hard as my speakers allow me to.

"How they can blow up in the United States with songs that are in German," because finally the US has been invited to learn a masculine language. The US speaks incorrect English, not 'American', but English is simply half-modern german with french influence. The shit side of it, "C'est la vie," "Deja vu," are of French origin. All the defined sounds come from our Anglo-Saxon heritage with, "Rücksack," and 'taboo slang.' Even the description you gave of, "Eerie," is proto-germanic version of a Lithuanian, 'aržùs.' Much much reading to be done. However, stick with it, shame the education system over there doesn't teach this stuff.

  • @martinbruhn5274
    @martinbruhn5274 2 года назад

I do think, that the video is looking at the USA, but in a way as an example of a society, that has failed, out of a kind of fear, that this might happen elsewhere too. Sorry to speak so negatively of the USA, but your country has turned over the last couple of years into something, that other democratic countries would like to avoid becoming themselves. All of the destructive madness and hatred, the fear and the preying on fears and the fear-mongering.
