Mhg hunter Actually It's kind of both since it was used to destroy Heavily Fortified Bunkers and Could also destroy Tanks but that was not recommended as the reloading time was very long and the crew had to get out of the tank to use the crane the enemy tank could Spray them down with the Enemy tanks MG
When it creates a cloud about 200m high and 300m around it when it fires... YES! And it was bloody slow, prone to breakdowns and if an enemy tank got within 3km then it was fkd.
I couldn't either mostly due to the fact that trench warfare was mainly used in the First World War and not the second. Also the sturmtiger was used at long distances and would usually fire in indirect arches at it's target. Finally the gun depression was not good at all so it could not be able to point it's gun down into a trench.
Russian bias xD In war Thunder, I dropped a 5000kg bomb with a Pe8 (russian heavy bomber) directly on a t34 and it bounced it off into the water.. Fuck logic xD
Looking back at it and playing games like BFV, the Germans really made some great and terrifying weaponry. The people they had in there developing their tools were definitely thinking ahead of their time
If Germany had more equipment and supplies they probably would of been a more formidable for(not that they weren't one already). But the allies had America and canada and their armies and resources which were larger than those of Germany's. So tigers and panzers were more powerful or deadly tanks. But there were more Russian tanks and Sherman's than there were any of the former. And when Germany lost control of the air they lost the war.
Honestly, I'm not so sure; the protection that modern MBT's have borders on stupid. Modern tanks are actually at a point right now where one nation's tank can't take out another frontally because of how effective the armor is. Here's some numbers for perspective and to help illustrate what I'm talking about: the smooth bore, Rheinmetall based 120 mm on an Abrams is said to have "about" 600 mm of penetration against rolled homogeneous steel armor (the steel tanks used to be made out of), while the front of an Abrams is estimated to have the equivalent of 800-1300 mm of RHS armor. All that being said, that is against physical impacts, and I don't know how the ceramic, composites, air pockets and all the other crap that makes up its armor would stand up to explosives.
Aaron Turner The natural enemy of modern MBTs is not other tanks. It's aircraft and missiles. Frontal armour is largely irrelevant if you can disable the tank with a shaped charge, detonated over the engine compartment.
TheThirdMan True, but that's not really what the topic was. It would be interesting to see what would happen if this monstrosity fired an HE round that detonated near an Abrams. I say near it, because even with how well protected an Abrams is, a 380 mm HE shell exploding on the tank would most likely still cause some significant damage.

Building the RFM Sturmtiger with interior. It has mobile pully to the rear. This can swing from left to right and two hooks up front. To load a shell, chains and cables would be attached to the rear pully. This would be swung to either left or right to grab a shell by the rear and swing it first onto the loading tray. The front is held by the two hooks near the breech. Once the rear is onto the tray, the front is then slowly winch to place. Afterwards, the chains and cables are put away, a huge hand crank would be attached to the rear to literally crank the shell into the breech.

I wish they would not always repeat this same myth over and over again that the Tiger 1 was an unreliable machine ... even many historians continue to parrot this lines that someone somewhere decided. According to direct battle and repair reports the Tiger 1 was actually a formidable tank in the field. However it WAS a heavy tank without a doubt! And thus it came with the deficiencies that have been TYPICAL for a heavy tank - pretty much ALL of them had those in WW2. With correct crew training and proper maintenance the Tiger 1 was a very reliable machine in the field.
Depends about which designs and tanks we are talking about. The panzer IV and III? They have been relatively well designed. The Panther though? Was rushed in to combat, and thus suffered a lot from unreliable mechanics. Anyway, in those cases where the Germans could keep up basic maintance their tanks have proven to be usually very reliable machines. Even the Tiger 1 and Tiger 2. That's all I am saying. Of course in 1945 it becames all simply to difficult for the Germans. It was the end of the war after all.
+CrniWuk I think it's more of that by the end of the war, strategic bombing was actually showing results in the staggering losses in production for the German war-machine in that fuel, munitions, and spare components combined with lack of trained crew all led to the inevitable breakdown of most of their machines. Compared to all the other nations fighting, the Germans were more prone to having unreliable vehicles because they were using either hastily produced machines or ones that had been refitted too many times that they eventually broke down. Look at the Ardennes offensive, the only reason why the Germans halted was because they ran out of fuel and ammunition for their vehicles and ended up scuttling most of their vehicles or they simply broke down in the cold weather and mud and were abandoned as the Wehrmacht infantry support were forced back. When the Allies came in, they just assumed it was due to faulty machinery when in fact it was because the Germans could no longer support their heavy armour. Primarily, the main issue goes to their fighting doctrine. They relied too heavily on Blitzkrieg tactics and always being able to capture the resources they needed that when the tide was turned, their infrastructure for the military couldn't bounce back. There are however a very small percentage of vehicles that were sabotaged from PoW and concentration camp labor but those numbers are unreliable and much smaller to what actually was the more common source: self destruction as the Wehrmacht retreated.
Commissar Gaunt Well as much issues as the Germans had, but you have to take a look at the other nations and their tanks as well. Take the Pershing or KV1 as example or the early version of the T34-76. Those havn't been exactly the most reliable tanks either. All nations had issues with transport, reliablity and the economy. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Even the US, since they had not only to manufacture everything but also send it like several thousand miles over the atlantic ocean. I would say you can not make a general argument either about the Germans or the Allied tanks. You have to look at the machines and battles they where thrown in. The Panther has proven to be a very unreliable machine in the battle of Kurks with almost all of the Panthers lost due to mechanical failures. Yet the Panther later provd to be a very good tank once most of the flaws have been worked out. Tanks like the Tiger and Panzer IV, that is shown by the battle reports and the experience of the Soldiers have been for their time and use reliable machines. Of course at the time of 1944 and 45 it was nigh to impossible to keep up the warmachine. So much is correct. But even in situations like the Ardenes tanks like the Tiger 2 and Panther performed reasonably well. Much better than their reputation would suggest. Of course you have also those situations where a column of Shermans took out a Tiger 2 by causing a damage to it's electical firing mechanism and the crew had to abandon their tank.
+CrniWuk the tiger was only reliable in its retreating defensive role. Damned tank was too heavy, and an engine that consumed to much fuel making it not a good tank at all in reality.
zela noid The Tiger, was for 1942 and 43 a decent heavy tank. As Otto Carius describes in his book, what the German heavy tanks required the most, have been good drivers and experienced crews. tankarchives.blogspot.de/2014/08/carius-interview.html About the Tiger. How reliable was it? "Initially, there were growing pains. The first company with Tigers was used at Ladoga, near Volkhov. The terrain is nearly impassable for tanks, and it was winter. All Tigers broke down! This happens always, with every new technology. A significant factor in a Tiger's reliability was the training of the driver. An experienced driver can reduce technical issues. At first, thank god, I had experienced drivers. Then we had young drivers for Jagdtigers, and it was a catastrophe. My personal tank #217 had to be blown up at Danzig, and it held out until almost the end of the war." However, that doesn't mean that the allies have been completely defenseless when ever a Tiger or Tiger 2 started to pop up. Particularly once they spotted the enemy vehicle.
Hope my sources are right: In January 1945, a single round from a PzStuMrKp 1001 Sturmtiger reportedly destroyed three American M-4 Sherman tanks located in a targeted village. One Shot - 3(!) Kills...........
BeetleatWar High explosive? I mean, this is like a really early Javelin, with the two stage propellant so a 380mm HE shell coming down would cause quite a mess.
This kind of vehicle is possible only with good logistics and air superiority. Only rich countries can afford this kind of beasts. I usually imagine KV2 in city support role for infantry, for example I imagine 1 shipped to Stalingrad. The Germans occupied one building block and beside it have dug in Pak 37 and Panzer 3 for support of infantry. KV2 follows Soviet infantry which is pinned down by superior enfilading German fire. Then KV2 steps into the middle of boulevard bouncing Pz 3's and Pak's rounds, and also a few shots from German anti-tank rifles, stops, steadily aims at the base of the German occupied building, fires and the whole one side of the building collapses on the Pak 37, along with German soldiers from the building who fall in slow motion intertwined with rabble and dust. Then KV2 aims at the opposite side of building block, at the dug in Pz 3, fires and same as in Men of War game series obliterates the tank with its massive 152 mm howitzer. Standing proudly at the middle of the street without any cover KV2 delivers few more shots and the Soviet infantry resumes attack and takes the building block. Now imagine same with Sturmtiger in Warsaw uprising. I am still curious, if the action becomes ever confirmed, how did Sturmtiger fucked 3 M4s? I suppose they were stationary and supporting infantry when arty spotters spotted them and ordered a fire mission for Sturmtiger. He then fired a shot and with the blast wrecked the poor bastards in 63 mil armor. The crater must have been humongous. Petersburg like.
Sadly, the KV2 topples on its side after turning its gun to be at a right angle to the hull after destroying one PzIII and other PzIIIs pummel the thin under armour and it explodes, taking several hundred nearby Soviet Infantry as the huge 150mm charges are easily ignited. Luckily the crew all survived but were sent to Siberia as punishment for ruining a perfectly fine tank with stupidity.
I'm a War thunder fan but these vids are too informative and interesting to miss. But i can't help but notice his eyes moving from right to left periodically and i'm sure he's reading from some sort of screen. Anyways thumbs up :)
This tank would be especially fun in War Thunder. There is honestly no real long range tank support in the game even now into 2016. Even with one round and a really long reload at long range it could be an area of effect weapon. Plus I would honestly expect an in game reload rate of 5 mins or more so it would have to be given a new tank designation and the matchmaking system would have to be altered to only allow one or two in the game on both sides.
Funniest thing about this is that you can use that gun as an emergency exit.
+High-End Benchmarks We tried fitting in some of our team inside of it. Worked well.

Very interesting. I only wish he'd gone into detail concerning how they got that enormous shell (Rocket) into the breech.
"...a Sturmtiger taking out three M4 Shermans." Probably at the same time haha.
With a 761 pound HE round that thing could take out 3 Abrams at the same time if they weren't dispersed,
Did you guys not pay attention? This was not intended for use against tanks. It was mobile siege artillery.

Commissar Gaunt
Well as much issues as the Germans had, but you have to take a look at the other nations and their tanks as well.
Damned tank was too heavy, and an engine that consumed to much fuel making it not a good tank at all in reality.
zela noid
The Tiger, was for 1942 and 43 a decent heavy tank. As Otto Carius describes in his book, what the German heavy tanks required the most, have been good drivers and experienced crews.
tankarchives.blogspot.de/2014/08/carius-interview.html
About the Tiger.
My personal tank #217 had to be blown up at Danzig, and it held out until almost the end of the war."
However, that doesn't mean that the allies have been completely defenseless when ever a Tiger or Tiger 2 started to pop up. Particularly once they spotted the enemy vehicle.
So this is what Wargaming is hinting at in their feature testing video
Great series. The presenter has a sound grasp of German pronunciation too 👍🏻
Big respect Richard ! Can't wait for the next one :)
How ridiculous is it that this video is made by WG, yet Gajin added it to War Thunder sooner?
"Demolisher cannon loaded!" vindicator much :P from 40k :D
the Sturmtiger was my favorite Vehicle in SuddenStrike 2! It was awesome and deadly
The little you need to know is that for reloading it takes 5 minutes but its worth it
Any other warthunder players got this recomended
Yah
2:43 die gute alte "Sturm Möse"
Who's here after the War Thuder Update
Me
0:53 "where the hole idea came from..." good one
The Porsche turret on the Tiger 2: perfect design.
put it in world of tanks
+Kyle Swartfager We tried, gun could fit on the map!
couldn't*

Reload time: 12 minutes.
Yo wtf i could fit my ex into that barrel
she would one shot everyone...
+Daniel Mähring your ex? ...8 yo talking about ex's... gtfo back to school!
dezastruos
lol
Your ex is *T* *H* *I* *C* *C* then
I love these videos. Lots of information. A very good presenter.
These vids are the only thing i enjoy as far as wot goes
Great arty, too bad the narrator makes it feel a little uninterresting when he is just reading facts from a screen/sheet next to the camera :/
lol I didn't even notice, guess I was too busy looking at the armored monstrosity behind him to care where his eyes were looking
The Sunken Swede It's not a artillery. It's a Heavy assault gun
Zipcot but if they add it to WoT i think it will be an arty :P
Didnt think there where any of these left.
The Tiger I was actually pretty darn reliable. You just couldn't let the engine RPM go past... Was it 2000? Or 2200...?
Lincoln 2000.mkz
Looks like something out of Metal Slug. Pretty awesome
The fact that this thing can even carry a dozen shells is impressive. It doesn't look like they'd all fit.
WoT's new garage brought me here I WANT THE STURMTIGER IN WOT
War Thunder: ¡WRITE THAY DOWN!
Hope my sources are right:
In January 1945, a single round from a PzStuMrKp 1001 Sturmtiger reportedly destroyed three American M-4 Sherman tanks located in a targeted village.
One Shot - 3(!) Kills...........
As I said in vid though totally unconfirmed report.
Wargaming Europe
just like russian claiming a 122mm of the IS variant can pen a tiger 2 frontal armor
Carl Miester Doesn't even do it on World of Tanks unless you use the good ammunition. lol
1 shot 3 kills? Allahu Akbar?
BeetleatWar High explosive? I mean, this is like a really early Javelin, with the two stage propellant so a 380mm HE shell coming down would cause quite a mess.
Cutely throws a grenade inside the turret*
Cutely shoots the shell
Brumtiger cutely explodes
You: *tries to trow grenade*
Stumstiget: *shoot machine gun at you*
That thing's basically the 40k Demolisher Cannon. And a massive upscaled Bolter.
So..russians got a KV2 ingame... when is this one coming?!
It actually was on a event
They need to get this into war thunder man
It is xd
@@pablopons572 it is now it wasn’t when I made this
@@anthonycoon6955 lucky you
This kind of vehicle is possible only with good logistics and air superiority.
I wish this was added to wot blitz maybe even missile td instead of fast missile tds
I'm a War thunder fan but these vids are too informative and interesting to miss. But i can't help but notice his eyes moving from right to left periodically and i'm sure he's reading from some sort of screen. Anyways thumbs up :)
Was that the museum in Münster?
Overmight freaks yes it was
Wargaming Europe Ok thanks :)
+Fallen Soldier Nope, Munster, in Niedersachsen. Münster is another town. Don't confuse :P
Yeah sorry
***** in Nordrhein-Westfalen?
0:19 A NAZI PATTON? WTF
Do you know that Germany was split a long time in 2 zones? WEST and EAST Germany... That's a west german tank... .
i dint know..is very similar than the american patton
It is an american tank :), but west germany used american tanks until west germany produced their own tank (Leopard 1). =)
Oooh boy, this war thunder update is gonna be goood
Nvm you explode if you get shot in the barrel

Welcome to World of Tanks.
Those things are pretty damn impressive in person, especially the Tiger II next to it.
"This is NOT a tank, it's a self propelled ARTILLERY PIECE"... then why do we have these things in World of TANKS? Wargaming logic.
they'll change the name of the game in World Of Armor and they will add armored cars in the game and maybe rocket launcher-tanks...
Andrei George Jurj See that, that i could live with.
Andrei George Jurj
They already have a rocket launcher tank, missile actually...the T49 with gun launcher.
***** Oh but dude, remember, WoT turns everyone into tank experts... -_-
That's truth!
6.31 is that sexuel harresment
Is that comment stealing? Like seriously both are 3 years ago
6:31 amogus? Lol jk

Yes it is mate
The cannon is that much big that a small pearson could fit in
I want to hear it being fired
Nabil Bsat look at company of heroes 2, it's pretty similar
Who's watching this in 2016
Today in 2017 mate....:)
Roman Soldier actually in 2021 lol #Timetravel
holy crap 380 mm gun!???!!?!? this is going to be available in WOT???? much nerf, much op
it will definitely be the biggest gun in the game for sure
OP would be if it had a 7 second reload time, 1.7 aim time and 0.21 accuracy.
"Strumtiger, when the 250mm howitzer on the T92 isn't powerful enough".
Everyone that plays battlefield 5 knows how much of a beast this thing is
