Hi Stuart, until recently i lived near Nottingham, and i used to go to Langley Mill Records for all my second hand wants. It’s a bit out in the sticks buts it’s definitely worth a visit. I cannot comment on their classical stock but the seventies/eighties rock & pop selection was the best I’d ever seen.

I cannot believe you are complaining about this. Classical enthusiasts have it better than anyone, the records are SO cheap and usually in mint condition. The only reason record shops do not bother is because the value & turnover on most classical is so low it is not worth the shop space it takes up. The one great exception here in London is Notting Hill's Music & Video Exchange which has a whole basement devoted to classical! Well worth a visit.

Not complaining. Just saying how it is. I acknowledged in the video there is little demand. Did you watch it all? Yes I know the nottinghill shop. I heard it is nowhere near as good as it used to be (LOL me complaining again eh)

There was a young American guy in there with a beard in the 90s - he was ok - but the white haired guy was a bit cold. I will probably pay a visit there just for old times sake next time I am in London which might be this weekend if the weather is ok.

No-one ever went to a vinyl shop unless they were after floor-covering.

Yes they are a waste of time. Best are charity shops and car boots, with online purchases for those records you really want.

I have the same experience here in Portugal. No chance of finding classical in trendy records shops. Sometimes, in second hand shops, you can find a box of classical LPs on the floor! This doesn't mean that no one is buying classical: it means classical buyiers are all in the internet. Of course I miss a good record shop...

Here in Salzburg/Austria we have one record store wich dedicated his first floor only to classical records. In the end there where offers from Chinese buyers, 50 cent a piece🙂 Now he sells HiFi equipment in his first floor and makes money again. I buy DG´s on the flea market here, you get tons of them, for 1,00 a piece, nobody cares for classical music, nobody knows about classical music....and we are talking Salzburg/Austria, one of the main places for this music. It is a shame.

I think 90% or more of classical buyers use streaming and not physical format. So there is interest but not in vinyl. You have the Mozart festival there in Salzburg and the Mozarteum. Mozart's portrait is also used to sell Austrian chocolate - right?

Hi, are you ever in Sutton Coldfield? I was in Psychotron records recently and they had a large amount of classical records. 3 big boxes on the floor all £2 each including box sets. From a large collection they'd had in and from what I could see they'd just stuck it all out unsorted for cheap because it wasn't their thing. Mostly immaculate condition. I pulled out a few things I thought looked interesting but I'm sure there's more. Might be worth a look if you're ever near by. Nice guy in there, probably they'd do you a deal if you took a chunk of it off them. I'm enjoying the channel by the way! Cheers

I’ve been to a few record fairs over the last year…no classical at those either, but I did pick up a few jazz records.

I feel like classical music has a very small group of interest. Now classical music on vinyl is even further reduced to an even smaller group. Most people who are into classical music are 50-90 years old. It's not trendy and most young people have literally zero interest in it. Record shops will sell what sells. It's already a niche market and very hard to make money from.

I mainly buy rock and pop and a lot of these new vinyl shops hold no interest to me either!

    • @LPCLASSICAL

I expect that is because you do not want to pay £35 for a digital remaster of 70s music when you could buy analogue originals for half the price or less.

pop of 30 years ago - nobody much cares about. The Spice Girls, Britney Spears, Oasis. So I don't see any reason why people are going to care about Taylor swift and Ed Sheeran in 30 years from now.
