Instead of saying "Andrew Carnagie is my Second cousin 5 times removed". I would just say "Yeah. Its cool. Andrew is one of my cousins. Andrew and I share the same grandparents." That is the only way most most people will even know what 2nd cousin 5 times removed even means. lol! The way I said it is actually true, too. Congratulations. What a treasure and legacy. Cheers!

I have a family rumor that we’re somehow related to the Calvert family that founded the colony (& later state) of Maryland (where most of my family branches have lived for generations). I’ve not been able to verify anything yet but building my tree has been one of my favorite things to do. I didn’t know much of anything beyond each set of grandparents or their parents, so getting back to my 3x-, 4x-great-grandparents has been exciting.

Interesting story, for sure, but it’s still your typical American “feel good” advertisement... 😒 a tree takes hours, days and potentially weeks to initially draft. It takes years to fully flesh it out and verify it. I speak as a amateur genealogist with 25 years exposure. These videos should really come with a caveat that there is no such thing as an “instant family tree”.

We'd be happy to help, Sheryl. Here are some details to help you with your tree. Start with all that you know about your family and ancestors and add that to your family tree. You can start a tree for no cost on Ancestry. You can connect with family members to see what they know and add it to your tree. You could also choose to subscribe to Ancestry and do traditional research by searching online record databases. AncestryDNA is another option that will connect you with living relatives and allow you to collaborate with them on your shared family lines.

Also, for those that never done DNA ethnicities how it works from yourself when building your tree and than your parents going as much as you can back to the greats of the grandparents each and every person original last name at birth is what goes on that family tree even if you are married that's how it works through Ancestry..
