Hey guys, we did make a big mistake. We did not do our research in the past and we installed LED Headlight bulbs without have projector headlights. We did get pulled over and got a warning that it is illegal to have them on unless you have projector headlights. We did compare the pattern of the LED bulb and that's why we were blinding people. Check where you live for your regulations. Make sure that you have the right headlight so you can install led headlight bulbs.

love the "quick short video"statement, how long did it take to clean that engine bay, that's amazingly clean for a daily driven car !!!. thanks for the advise on lights!!
Well thanks for the vid. You just saved me a lot of time and money. Cheers.
Maybe they were clocked wrong at the factory. Mine put out the same pattern as the halogen bulbs, The leds, are pointed to the outside and inside when installed.
Common problem
You bought WRONG BULBS. You bought junk bulbs.
Seen this happen before to he honest. Melted the holders...
GTR CSP Mini are better.
LED chips in the right place, so the beam pattern is right. And it doesn't produce much heat to begin with. It's only like 13W.
Wow i got led's on my suv
And Cars I had before.
For a long time now never had no problem with them they are more reliable than hid's that I noticed.
I installed leds in my 2014 Ford Explorer. I checked the light pattern by swapping one bulb and compared it with the other. I did a drive by test and the lights from the factory are aimed down slightly so I was not blinding others so that was good. You have to be careful because some people on the road don’t care about others and blind the shit out of you when driving at night
Next time you should take some time to care of type and generation selection. Fanless LED with copper belts, temperature never goes over 60 degree in my car compare to 90 degree with classic bulb.
Radek Pastor Those are the ones I generally run in fog lights. Had them in my 750 for over a year, my 335 for 3 years and my moms Maxima for about 2 years now, and they’ve been flawless. I like those much better than the cheap ones with them fans. A big heat sink is the best defense to high heat.
I may be wrong, but i guess they got overheated because of the bad ventilation, the fan is useless if the air passage is blocked, the fan should be outside the dust cap or with a couple of inches space behind.
mamds74 true
That's exactly right. They need to be vented.
What language is this, anyone offer a translation?
I have had no trouble in with my
NIGHTEYE LED H4's they are fanless and just have a heatsink, mutch better view than my old halogen bulbs and pull less current from the battery, had them in for about a year now with no issues
@@KarlUKmidlands you get lucky some times mate. not always the case however.
I replaced the halogen high beams with led bulbs on my Volvo XC70, replaced the standard Phillips d1s hid low beams with second gen d1s units and also the fog lamps with Bright Source Duo beam led bulbs (they can be either white or yellow depending on the weather). The whole change over cost about $600 with the hid bulbs being the most expensive portion but really really happy with the light in our wet, dark west coast winter nights!!
I just bought LED headlight bulbs from Diode dynamics. They kick ass !
DMart is correct. I had the same issue with lights when I put them in another car.
I know it sounds crazy, but they can be installed upside down. And when they're upside down, the light pattern looks ridiculous just like yours does on the wall. Mine did too.
But when they were flipped upside down, the light pattern matched the standard bulb.
So... give it a try, and you might be surprised.
If I recall, the cable that attaches to the back of the assembly needed to be pointed down.
Having brighter lights when living in the middle of nowhere without street lights every 10 feet makes sense but idiots that have them for city driving are just blinding everyone
its less about the brightness, more about the beam pattern and the beam cut-off if there isn't a cut-off or its too high, your going to blind people, same as if the beam pattern is wrong
There's always high beam for deserted places. It's legal to use it, even lightbars like the ones on safari vehicles. LEDs are dangerous in urban areas, that are well lit anyway, and, more than that, they are temporary decision. I now have to clear exactly such a mess, because to install the LEDs, the previous owner of the car has removed the rubber caps. Now the headlights are so full of dirt, no such bulb exists that is going to shine well in them. I have a ton of things to do and it's going to cost a fortune to fix the mess the LEDs have made...
@@zacmich6472 wont cost a fortune if you can find a headlight assembly in your local junkyard, we have picknpull here and i love it for saving money on parts
Mines fit mine. I went from halogen to led. With ballasts and OE projectors....works fine.
Common sense, thats all it takes people. Use your head when using LED headlights. I was told LED headlights ard a bad idea in snow, they are too brilliant and can make things worse. Brighter is not always better depending on consitions. As stated too, LED lights CAN get too hot in an inclosed headlight bucket. Do your research, make sure the headlights are aimed properly. Never assume an after market system will work with your vehicle without checking first. Again, common sense, use it.
El Criastian exactly, it’s the cooling fins where the heat is located which is outside of the enclosed system. If your bulbs are melting your housing then something is drastically wrong.
@El Criastian if they are used correctly. in this case he should have left the rubber cap off to allow the headlight to extract the heat away from the bulb and housing . im guessing the fan would have survived abit longer aswell.
@@wax333 but then moisture gets into your headlight
Not all LED bulbs suck. Do your research regarding filament vs led placement. Make sense.
I have ran LED on my Chevy pickup.Been working great for years.Would never go back.
What brand of leds were they?
HID and lEDs arnt good in most reflecter housing lights.
Wow I had these in my list on amazon now their getting removed
The bulbs melted because they were in an enclosed headlight housing. Need to be in an open headlight housing for ventilation.
Does that mean that if you have enclosed housing, you won't be able to Install led
Little Baby M no just leave the circular dust cap off so the fan can pull in fresh air
thank you for the warning!
I have installed the Naoeve 60w 6500k white at 3-9 pattern in my Fiest. I have not experienced any issues with it blinding drivers. However, the dust cover needs to be deeper to avoid the fan. Cheap to replace or modify your own.
So is it right that you should only fit LED bulbs for headlamps if you have projector headlamps.?
I had the same problem with cree motor sports led. Best not to aim your lights down because that lowers your high beams as well. I replaced em with beam tech and the pattern is much better
I have LED Headlamp bulbs in my 2016 focus, I've yet to get them adjusted but once I do, I should no longer get flashed by other drivers. I also purchased an extra set of headlight weather covers because I need to cut into them to allow air flow back into the headlight assembly to keep the LED bulb cooling fan from being restricted.
Can it be those bulbs were adjusted in the vertical position? I looked at the video a few times, seems they were. By adjusting them in the horizontal position, you wouldn’t have had that circle pattern. When I installed mine I had the same issue. Once adjusted, I got an OEM pattern.
Good for inclement weather only as of other OEM equipment or aftermarket add on , but if these headlights or bulbs installed can be controlled manually separate from regular headlight switch as on my Kia Rio. Otherwise these glaring , blinding experience is result of built in driving lights and or headlight control .Lot of times people use these light options during good weather , very bad choice .
Diode Dynamics SL1 LED's are designed to work. It has a very good beam pattern.
I could work out why at around 30 seconds in he kept selecting high speed on the heater blower motor?
This must be an old post. I just installed LED headlight bulbs in my '06 Pontiac Vibe (reflector headlight housing) and they work just like the old Halogens did, only a hell of a lot brighter. The cut off line is in the same place as with the halogen bulbs and they don't blind oncoming traffic. The newer Chevy pickups have blinding headlights on low beam from the factory, soI'mnot worried about my headlights being too bright. LEDs are a lot better now.
I have noticed that your LED light flickers. Did you have any problem with that? I thought you would need a 50 ohm load to prevent the flickering. LED seems to be brighter and more spread out, but I wonder if it goes as far as stock. I opted to convert my headlights to HID, which has a wider variety of colors. I stayed at 5000K for a pure white color.
Just adjust your headlights
mighty green and vent them.
This shitty pattern is not adjustable! It's the lamp that sucks, not the headlight
GMCminitruck you clearly didn't see the video
Bradford Ramm
Well, yes I did. It's just that these replacement LED bulbs are so badly designed that you can adjust what you want, it will never be correct.
It won't that work easily
A proper Lumen and placement is all u need. I use Piaa’s as they are adjustable in the housing
LEDs are improving everyday. Now they have new ones with led chip setup similar to the stock halogens plus with glare shields so it's got similar beam pattern. I have passively cooled bulbs yet they still never overheated.
What are these brands?
I have seen the newest JDM ASTAR. It looks like they are best right now. They have the LEDs layout like the halogens. Plus you can adjust the LED in the housing because not all of the halogen bulb key ways that let LEDs work right. From what JDM ASTAR says, you have to the LEDs pointing at 9 and 3 in most housings, but if you get bad lighting at 9 and 3, they say you can adjust them away from the 9 and 3 directions if need be. They even have no fans on them too.
Halogens don't have any chips in them and never did.....
Best led light design for reflector headlight must be linear with 4 CSP or Philips light chips.
You can't use hids in factory halogen housing either. I retrofitted projectors into my e46.
Blong Thao yes u can, just takes more effort to do it right and a wallet with money for quality PIAA's.
its not HID its LED.... totally different
Blong Thao even retro fitting projectors doesn't make it legal. For that you also need headlight washers and self levelling suspension.
I’ve had my leds in my car for almost a year now in the factory unit..no problems yet🤷🏻♂️
Actually you can use HID and LED in factory Housings without Mods. Now a days they are plug and play. I have 6000k HIDS in my 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII...and with a car being that old...the HIDs went right in without any Mods.
Could be the type of bulbs you are using. Try the GTR Lighting 3rd Generation bulbs. Pricy but the best.
I agree wholeheartedly with the light direction and shape aspect to the safety problem ... and I do not state this as fact ( as i could have it wrong) just a point of reference of something for you to take into account is the power supply going to these bulbs is far higher when you talk about microfarads and so on than what is stated in there working capacity ... I think 💭 ... & you do sound smarter than me so let’s look at this as an exchange of ideas I’d be stoked to hear your findings ... as to amend either way ...
What you guys need to do is adjust your led bulbs and rotate it and find the right beam pattern
Not possible, as ford engineers designed the headlights to work with halogen bulb filaments, not led chips.
Let's not point fingers at FORD. ALL car manufactures create headlights for halogen bulbs. You can always upgrade to LED but thats under your discretion and being aware that LED bulbs tend to blind people because of the reflector design. If the LED manufacture made an adjustable collar for the LED bulb then you can easily loosen the screw and rotate the collar until you get a flat and clean pattern.
DMart BossMan I’m not blaming ford, in fact I drive one. I’m saying that your suggestion about adjusting the led to get a correct beam pattern isn’t possible, since an led chip will never produce a proper beam pattern in a reflector. You can adjust leds but they’ll always throw glare since the led chips aren’t in the same orientation as the halogen filaments.
TheKing0fHalo
since we are going down that road it wasnt ford but HELLA
The KingOfHalo. you're talking what you don't know. LED are more advance these days. the ones in my car has a flat and perfect cutoff line. when buying LED headlight bulbs you can get the perfect type
The stock hid lights on pick up trucks are the worst for blinding people, I put BeamTech led on my Elantra lowbeams, and checked them and adjusted to not blind people.
I would check out the beamtech LED Bulbs, all I had to do with my nissan sentra 2015, was to adjust the height from the beam. They light up the road much better for me and all of my family complained at first, but once I realized I had to adjust them, they were okay with it.
I've been running a good LED in my suzuki GSXF600 for 2 years now, passing cops left and right w/o problems. It is a direct replacement for the Halogen bulb as it has LEDs on both sides and the single side low beam gives nearly the same pattern as the halogen bulb and I only had to make minimal adjustment to get the low beam cutoff to the correct height. It is about twice as bright as the halogen which means it is appears a little brighter. No overheating issues even buried in the factor reflector. Of course I did toss out the rubber bladder that would have interfered with the heat exchanger. A published study shows 4000K color appears to give the best visibility - ie you can see the farthest - in rain and clear, at least for the streetlights.
Led lights or other aftermarket headlight bulbs are very good for inclement weather ( only ) if they can be turned on separately as my Kia Rio , not installed as other makes of cars on their headlight switch only , cannot be regulated between hi/low beam control .
Just needed proper adjustment and it seems it wasn't installed properly if the ring holder getting burnt and you will need a LED headlights caps too.
plus , everything above 5000 Kelvin in the rain makes it impossible to see properly . I'm gonna return to halogen bulbs too
It says a lot about someone to admit when they're wrong and more so to do it on youtube.
Good Fortune Ahead mate.
They over heat when there put in a reflector type lamp depending on the led model
Don't touch the original bulb with your finger after he touches it SMH
All your do ajust headlight assemply pointing down ward (look in car manual), no more blind the driver of an oncoming.
Love all these guys in the comments thinking their LEDs are fine, meanwhile I get blinded on the road every two minutes at night by some shithead who thinks their LEDs are fine.
It was likely due to a poor choice of LED bulb. there are many variations of bulbs out there and the cheaper they are, the less heat dissipation (melting of module/housing) and the less likely the beam will replicate the original factory halogen.
You just need to adjust the beam pattern some led light bulbs come with Allen wrench/key where you can adjust the angle, the best orientation is that the led is facing 9 and 3 o clock direction, it won’t blind the oncoming drivers
Maybe point the lights lower lol
Exactly
I got a pair of Lumen LED bulbs for my 2005 Accord over a year ago, and I always have them on day and night, they work like a swiss watch no melting or any other problems. They were designed to run in the old reflective headlights so by design they are guaranteed not to blind. I havent had a single person high beam me yet. Visibility is awesome, and it's nice not to have to replace burned out bulbs every six months like I used to with shitty halogens. You get what you payed for. I highly recommend carid.com they're expensive there but I guarantee you, you wont have your bulbs melt on you.
What’s the song in the beginning of the video?
I put some in my F-150 and people hated me so bad they would cut me off and slam on their brakes! I didn’t realize how badly they projected into other lanes even though I had them aimed properly. Had to pull them out.
Led or hid bulbs look ugly in reflector housings, just my opinion. I went with an actual hid projector retrofit with my reflectors and it looks clean. All you should see when using 5000k hids or leds, is the projector lens emitting light, not crazy glare everywhere from the reflector.
Not to mention, you probably shouldn't run LED's or HID's without the proper projectors. The glare emitted from reflector housings is a sure fire way to get drivers to hate you
@@emarin1986 That's why I always flash my High beams when those idiotic drivers with their reflector housings and LEds/Hids come my way. I do have LEds but I have projector headlights so I can use them, but if you don't have projector housings then stick to halogen bulbs.
since more than one year, no problem with AUX BEAM (2014 Focus Sport)
YOU PUTTING THE LED INSIDE HOUSING WITHOUT ANY VENTILATION ...THAT Y IT MELT
It's not quite that simple more like these led's in this headlight assembly. Reflector or projection makes a difference and the particular lcd as well. The brightness, color temp, and where the lcd emmitter is positioned. it being in the same spot as a filament and possibly even a reflector over the emmiter for a proper cutoff.
Thankyou I won't fit LED bulbs in my car you saved me a ticket.
What is an ewwid lamp?
Wow that sure melted
this kind of led bulbs ( cree chips ) is better for high beam , if you want better beam pattern for the low beams , look for the Philips chips is way better in reflector housing
What are elweydee bulbs?
From what I've learned on RUclips your LEDs need to be str8 up and down to properly disperse the light. You turn it by loosening a small bolt near the bulb.
Adjust the hight?
I feel like there’s no good alternative to halogens for reflector housings. HID is way too bright and LEDs have a poor beam pattern so you don’t get much light down the road.
I got some Phillips LEDs in they shine far as hell
I installed a set of OEM fog lights for my Chevy Cruze this past weekend. I've heard about the benefits of LEDs in headlamps, so I decided to put a set in my fog lights. I did it for a couple reasons. The first is that I can see better down the road with the fog lights on. The second reason is their longevity. They last a lot longer than the stock halogens that came with them so I don't have to tear apart the underside of my car to change the bulbs. I also don't have to worry about blinding other drivers on the road since they're mounted lower to the ground than the headlights are. I think if I'm going to go brighter on my headlights, I'll upgrade my Sylvania Silverstar halogens to a brighter bulb. I'm already considering it since the Silverstar Ultras produce a brighter, more white light and would match more to the color of my LED fog lights.
Man loves orange colored light, do as he says and put 2700K halogens for your house lighting.
too high aim it lower u'd be fine
1: standard reflectors aren't calibrated for these, 2: cool white sucks for eye fatigue and clarity (detail), 3: looks like they flicker ?
What city and State you got pull over by police?
I prefer HID, LED is not good for the moment
HID's suck hardcore and require so many wires to run. Led's are simple, brighter and last alot longer. Not to mention they will never flicker like HID's are notorious for doing without a ballast.
That's odd. I own a Blazer that is now 20 years old and it has the same headlights it came with from the factory. And not only do they still work great, I have never ever out drove them anytime. But then I do obey the speed limits and have zero problems. JMHO
You should just re aim them lower.
i love my led lights, but they are far from perfect , example being i ordered some 12volt 9 watt bulbs (which can be used either as a car inspection lamp a caravan interior light, or as a solar system bulb ,
the problem i have had is the manufacturer using cheap leds which when hot disconnect themselves then reconnect when they cool down , which makes them flicker,
leds, like the lights in the video need a good cooling system or they will burn out reaaallly quick!
in my opinion they aren't the world savers they are supposed to be, give me a ccfl tube or good old tunsten/halogen bulb any day
they may consume more power, but i'm certain they will last a heck of a lot longer
Bad ventilation. That's why. You shouldn't put the dust cover of the headlight anymore if you're using a led type head light. or better yet customize the cover or buy a universal dust cover which have a hole. yep there is a universal dust cover. check amazon for that.
LEDs always look better in projectors than reflectors I have projectors and sea light leds there the best and no fans lol 😂 get projectors and sealight Led bulbs that tips for free lol 😆....
L wee D lights! 🤣
Lmao
Thank you. You helped me make a decision to NOT use LEDs.
I used a PIAA brand light because they come with an adjustment to line up to the reflective lens properly. I also adjusted the entire assembly on my 2015 after installation as they were too high to begin with and one was also not centered. The PIAA's are not cheap communist Chinese knock offs they work in a non projection assembly but they are pricey. $300.00 a pair.
You could replace the warm white bulbs for 6000k halogens. Then you got the cool white look without comprimising the headlight and beam. That's what i did on my headlights. I used Thunder GP 6000k and works fine for over 2 years now.
Wiren Changoer what brand 6000k halogens did you use
Wiren Changoer jj
That's what i did they look good I only use led lights as a replacement for my side light bulbs
i used these on my 2017 fiesta and look amazing!!.. Philips H11 CrystalVision Ultra Upgrade Headlight/Foglight bulb, 2 Pack and Philips H1 CrystalVision Ultra Upgrade Headlight Bulb, 2 Pack
low, high and fog beams
It sho ulld have a shroud that aims it downward
Tint the lenses. Then using the original headlight as a guide, eye lid the lenses at the same height. Eye lid with even darker tint to cut the glare. Maybe a washer under the back end of the bucket? I am both cheap and lazy...
Could be because the LED you got is CREE. It has that dome on the LED. I use different company LED lights and they use these CSP LED chips. I use the H4 for my car. So for you need to to click on the H8 versoin. www.amazon.com/LED-Headlight-Bulb-Conversion-Kit/dp/B075J8VQDX/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1521933924&sr=1-3-spons&keywords=h4%2Bled&th=1
If you read instructions most say do not put the covers back on when using leds
not only blinding people, but also disappear in the rain
I have been using OPT-7 leds and they are good quality $99 on amazon. Don't buy those $25-30 ebay junk. And adjust your headlights aim too.
Shouldve went HID's there's bulbs for both types of housings, not to mention they're brighter after warming up.
0:35 skip the crap.
looks to me that you just needed to aim them you can get in trouble with normal bulbs if they are set to high
Don’t buy cheap LED light, mines cost 100 and after 2 years still working fine (except that cooling fans are little noise. Also keep with well ventilation to avoid melting
Those led's were way to far out from the center, they literally need to be at the same physical point as the filament in the bulb, but i'm sure you already know that by now!
Are you in the USA 🇺🇸 or UK 🇬🇧????
Looks like USA
a few cars in my area use LED bulbs that aren't set up how they should be...
4:25 Don't touch the bulb as you will leave oil from your fingers (as was explained earlier in the video, but obviously this guy was not listening).
Hate the new lights. Glad you can see because I. Can't
I use these bulbs, and used to get flashed all the time. Added some vinyl eyelids, and have not got flashed since. No scientific data to back it up though.
I thought LED lights produced less heat.
Guess you’re not going cheap on the next LweD
