    The late 90s/early 2000s were simultaneously the best of times for adult animation and the worst of times for adult animation. They were the best because basically every single adult cartoon (that wasn't on Fox) eventually gained a cult following...but they were the worst because every single adult cartoon (that wasn't on Fox, and even they weren't immune) was massively screwed over or cancelled less than their only season in, and often both at the same time. Only Adult Swim was a safe haven

    I knew nothing about the comic and watched the show on a whim on Adult Swim. I ended up liking it - it had some clever stories. The Bittermans were similar to my own white trash family so there were some relatable laughs there. Overall I'd recommend a watch and give it a B+. What a bizarre back story tho. Thanks for sharing.

    The theme song is awesome and the show's not *terrible.*
    Also, this thing is raunchy? It's kind of a shame that even Adult Swim tossed it to the wolves when it was the one to save Futurama.

    This is what happens when executives think that using charts or following whats popular would make them become successful. But they always end up going very badly, it happened with Yo Yogi, Quack Pack, and Powerpuff Girls 2016. Where they thought that trying to be extremely cool would make them become liked, but it ended up making people roll their eyes. and they reek of executives using charts to determine what people like
    and this also happens when the executives try to cash in on another show. Thinking that they'll be a success because the other network did something similar: like Shnookums and Meat, Teamo Supremo, Coconut Fred, Billy Dilley, Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty, and so much more. When they would end up backfiring tremendously

      No the problem with PPG 2016 was they tried to force corny life lessons into every episode instead of focusing on being funny. Also the characters being out of character and stripping away the action.

    I remember being pretty excited when I first found out that there was a Baby Blues cartoon, but when I actually started to watch the episodes, well, this video did an excellent job of basically summing up my feelings than. I was pretty disappointed at how different the episodes of this cartoon that I was watching were from the Baby Blues comic strips themselves, and I remember my main issues being with just how cynical the show’s writing and direction seemed to be in. So many of the plots revolved around Darryl and Wanda being the sort of punching bags of the show, and that REALLY turned me off of watching any more episodes after a while. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt because I had enjoyed reading the strips so much, but it shortly became very clear that I hadn’t just unluckily picked the ‘dud’ episodes to watch first and that ALL of them were pretty terrible. And this video was a nice explanation for how exactly that these extreme differences both in tone and in story between the Baby Blues comic strips and their cartoon came to happen.

    I liked both the show and the comic strip. I figured it was something like Dilbert, where you expand on what already exists and give it something to build to. The bittermans felt like the experienced parents, the ones you'd go to for advice. Yet you'd be annoyed at how they live since most people want others to live like they do. The other characters were good, expanding on what was there, and not really taking away from the existing idea. Yes I saw the series first, and then looked up the comic, but I still remain that it worked. It just wasn't given a good chance or was too early for it's audience.

    I remember vaguely seeing this years ago on Adult Swim and it always lurked in the back of my mind. I recently rediscovered it by complete accident and I watched every episode. I actually thought it was good. It was like a more wholesome and less absurd Family Guy. That made me go and read some of the original comic strip and I can see why the strip fans didn't like it. But overall I think it was decent and I think they should try to make it a show again but this time making it truer to the source material. I think it would do well.

    WB or CW, it realy doesn't matter. After all this time, people still never learn. Some idiot actually thought a live action, more adult take on the Powerpuff Girls would be a good idea. Supposedly it's still in the works, despite it clearly missing tge entire point if the original. The classic show balanced action and comedy, and the main draw was the badass battles juxtapose against the 3 heroes being so small and adorable! It just goes to show how showbiz is the least intelligent business in the world sometimes.

      @@WubbaizyShipper1 Eh, at this point I'd MUCH rather have Akazukin ChaCha make a comeback than the PPG. Even with the creator of the 1998 series it won't really get me to care. Plus ChaCha has MUCH more potential for a revival/reboot/sequel series. And I would LOVE that ChaCha reboot to air on Cartoon Network because I think we've had enough PPG right now & ever.

    • @ExtremeWreck
      @ExtremeWreck 2 года назад

      @@WubbaizyShipper1 Yeah Akazukin ChaCha is more obscure, but honestly I think that a revival of that anime would probably be more interesting & have more potential compared to Powerpuff Girls. Plus it'd likely won't cost as much for a revival to happen if one were to find Min Ayahana(ChaCha's creator) somehow. Sure, Cartoon Network owns the rights to Powerpuff Girls, but they'd likely have to pay more money to get Craig McCracken onto the PPG revival project than the amount of money to get the license & A-OK from Min Ayahana to make an Akazukin ChaCha revival.
      Well, that is UNLESS if she doesn't own the rights to her creation either & it's actually with either Ribon, the magazine that ran the original 1991 Akazukin ChaCha manga, Studio Gallop, who did the classic anime adaptation, TV Tokyo, the broadcaster of the anime adaptation in Japan, or if you REALLY wanna go into conspiracy theory territory, ABS-CBN, who was the broadcaster of the anime in the Philippines, or if all 5 entities are fighting for the rights like crazy. If one of those 4 possibilities is the case, then we're kinda screwed.

It’s one thing to adapt something that doesn’t entirely seem close to what the source material is, but it’s another when it gets screwed over. As much as I hate to use this comparison again, it’s like what happened to the Star Wars sequels. George Lucas had his own idea for them given that Star Wars was his creation, and Disney threw that all away by making their own version of it while not coming up with a plan. Corporate greed at its finest.

    WB was a crap network that nobody watched, anyway! Except for Kids WB on Saturday mornings, cartoons were the "bread and butter" of Warner Brothers studios going all the way back to the 1930s. You put a show like "Baby Blues" in prime time, against four other networks, and what do you expect? If the same show were on FOX or ABC, I think they may have done a better job with it. WB made bad creative decisions with their shows, and that's why they were always in last place
