I found this fascinating 🧐 I appreciate you being so transparent about real life. You live it beautifully. My brother lived in Japan for two years but I cannot afford to go, so I was wondering about what it’s like. I find your videos to be relaxing 😌 at the end of my day here in America.
pro tip @6:51 - don't put the lid on the pot when you are deep fat frying. Condensation collects on the lid, then that water drips into the pot when you lift it. This can cause MASSIVE grease splatters/burns/fires. Just keep the lid off while you cook.

By California standards (Yen converted to USD) this is a very very modest, even strict budget. Very much like what a young university student might spend, mostly just for basics. Then with a few carefully chosen special treats added to that. VERY interesting! I learned a lot!

I like how you point out that budgeting and expenses can vary from person to person. And give yours as in example. I especially liked this bc most budgeting videos, ppl cut out a lot of hobby’s and experiences of life to just save more. Yes, saving money is good, but there’s no need to hoard all of it too the point you live a bland life. I like how you give yours openly. Very nice video. ❣️🖤❣️

Making money only is not a complete life. There is something beyond in our life. Any way Good night sister🍭 Have a good night sleep.

I had just found you channel a few days ago and have been watching videos randomly. You intrigued my curiosity and impressed me with beauty in simplicity. I find solace that although you mainly show us your cooking and eating routines..living alone..you actually do go to gym to exercise and date too. I find myself happy knowing that. Looking forward to your future videos..be safe, be well.. 😊
Am I the only person who didn't read the subtitles and kept looking at the food she was making? :P I had to rewatch! I've been living alone for 5 years and I'd say I need to learn a lot from you Nami, you're excelling at this budgeting and being independent game! Love!
I’m learning from her how better to cook for one person. She may use very small amounts of veggies, but she only needs enough for herself. I usually will cut up and cook way too much food and end up tossing some away.
As a military family living in a 3 bedroom, one bath apartment, our rent was 120,000¥ a month. That doesn’t include water, gas, electric, and phone. The yen rate to the US dollar was about 146¥. Rent cost about $860. We loved our apartment!
In Nashville Tennessee USA it is $1400. USD for 900 sq. ft - One Bedroom apt in safe, nice area and utilities and pet fees are $300 per month (a garage is 200.USD More.) All Per month. An old 3 bedroom 1250 sq. ft. House is $2,500.00 a month.
I was surprised, because 20 000 yen (156 euros) for groceries from supermarket monthly feels like not a big amount, seeing the whole variety of delicious food Nami is always cooking. I live in Tallinn, Estonia and I am spending about twice that amount. Food must be really cheap in Japan! Very interesting overview, thank you very much for sharing with us.
I noticed Nami is a smart shopper. There is this grocery shop close to her former apartment, where vegetables are affordable. I am sure she will finde smart places for shopping in her new neighbourhood, too.

Just came across your videos. I am from Singapore, I never been to japan before. Your videos really helps to give me an impression of how living in japan is like.
Thank you Nami for such a thorough and very useful insight into Japan's expenses for a single person. I learned from you today that regarding food one should keep in mind healthiness and not overspend on it at the same time. I have to work on this. Othersise saving on all areas is my speciality. I always watch the price to value ratio and try to save everywhere. I rarely buy take outs, go to a cafe is unknown to me, as a family we used to go sometimes to a restaurant or buffet but it's already forgotten snce so many years passed. My cooking skills are poor but I am trying to make something edible, no wonder I have stomach problems already. I'd like to visit Japan but this pandemic is killing everything. After wathing your videos so far I am concerned if I could find any job there to survive... maybe just some night guard or so since I don't know Japanese yet. Oh well I better stop dreaming
@vedcon I used to save everything first - this is a good starting point, however, do be very careful. I am almost 50 now, and as I look back I see patterns where I easily could have taken a holiday here or there with my partner, year after year and didn’t. Those potential experiences are lost and the memories have value, be it a holiday or a night out with friends, so balance is important.
So glad you are staying within your budget and you have a target to stay within. Life in America is really really expensive in comparison. Good for you!
