    Sadly the real platoon sergeant passed away in Spain last year after a long battle with Alzheimer's, a top bloke and a proud fusilier wounded in Korea. The krays never filled him in, they were constantly on rp's and jailed due to being unfit to soldier and subsequently binned. RIP Laurie

      My step-brother, who had the same attitude but not as much gravitas as a Kray wanted to get out of the reserves so he walked up to one of his superior officers to announce "Private Wilsmore reporting for discharge Sir" and promptly hit him in the head, Ha-Ha-Ha ~ He got three months in the civil jail plus a dishonorable discharge which caused my old WW2 sergeant stepfather to hold a permanent grudge, lousy bastard told my stepfather that it was 'MY' idea which, well, truth is it was ;-)

    This scene never happened like this, in real life & it involved a corporal & not a Sergeant, as shown here. The Krays reported for duty at the Tower of London (Home to the Royal Fusileers at the time) & they attempted to leave, after enrolling. A corporal tried to stop them from leaving & Ronnie Kray punched him, in the jaw, seriously injuring him. The police arrested them, the next day & turned them over to the army.
    If they are going to do a biographical film, then at least show scenes, that were truthful & not semi-true or completely, made-up.

    I read a book on National Service as told by various former National Servicemen, most of them said NS should never be re-introduced as it was so awful, particuarly in the Army - One tale was about a lad (in basic training) who turned up late for a parade and when questioned by the Sgt. Major he said all smug 'I was having a shit sir!' - The Sgt. Major flipped, had the lad carted off by the MP's and the storyteller said the next time he seen him he was painting kerb stones in the camp with a toothbrush sporting a freshly shaved head and two black eyes. So from that account I reckon the Krays got their fair share of 'discipline' in a similar manner

    • @maxwellfan55
      @maxwellfan55 3 года назад +6

      Uno. Your words conflict everything I've read and understood. Most National Servicemen agree NS was tough, unpleasant and repetitive, but admit it gave them the best grounding and sense of self-discipline in their lives. Qualities sorely lacking in society today, although whether NS is useful in todays armed services is highly improbable.
      My father who was a S/NCO, and a regular from WW2 couldn't stand National Servicemen because they were unwillingly pressed into service, largely ineffective, and only there for a limited period.

      I spent 2 years in the Army Reserve keep that in mind
      Since the Krays were brother's neither would have dobbed on the other so when asked by the RSM ( Regimental Sgt Major ) both would have remained silent hence forth the charge of dumb insolence and then having struck a superior officer and not having completed basic training they simply would have been dishonourably discharged with immediate effect

    The sergeant would have been locked up for wearing a ridiculous hat like that. You break a hacksaw blade and insert it so it pushes the crown of the hat up, then you take a razor blade and cut the stitching at the edges of the peak which allows you to push the peak down to a sharper angle. It’s called a slashed peak. Then just close the gap where the stitching was by sewing it closed. Job done. I did this to my hat in the British Army which I had for 12 years (and later to my Prison Service cap) and always felt smarter!

  • @maxwellfan55
    @maxwellfan55 4 года назад +9

    Well, does it matter if it's not accurate? Who believes what's in the movies anyway, especially these days. What's important is showing the Krays for who they were, couldn't hack national service and spent most of their lives inside jails as common criminals. No good for the army either. Just wonder if the MP's gave 'em a good kicking?

    • @hannotn
      @hannotn 15 дней назад

      Couldn't hack it, or just thought it was a waste of time and had what they felt were better things to do with their lives. Most of what the British Army was doing in the 1950s was killing indigenous people who wanted to run their own countries.

Outside of that they're poorly trained 90% of the time serious tensions always prevail in such a force since most can't wait to get back home. They're also expensive due to their larger size.
