They are completely and utterly different. They may have similar features, but other than that they’re different. The Byakugan uses a chakra field to foresee attacks when they come near. The Sharingan (at Sasuke’s stage) can read the opponent’s movements really really fast so they can pretty much dodge anything as long as they’re fast enough. Once they get the three tomoes on their eye, then they can pretty much see things before they happen.
