As a Minotaur fan, it hurts to see Minotaur lose. The drum is so low that it's making contact with the floor, preventing it from speeding up to full speed (the floor in 2019 is arguably the worst floor in the reboot era of Battlebots)
Minotaur was doing a fine death hum at 0:13. I don't think it's the floors fault in this case, looks more like Gigabyte smashed the "bunny ears" (the sides that mount the drum) on the bottom of the bot out that caused the drum to run on the floor. They fixed it later by having a full wedge or forks below the drum so any impact from a horizontal/undercutter would be fed into the drum instead of smashing the drum mount.
@@bami2 Minotaur never used the wedge against any horizontal. It was mainly used for other wedges. It also did not look like mounts were the big issue regarding its drum. It started failing before they actually got any real damage. I think Minotaur were just having terrible issues with the drum early into this specific season.
@@ryanguo9300 I checked it and you're 100% correct on the wedge only being used vs other wedges. Also yeah the weapon didn't spin up correctly at the start, it took a couple of seconds of stuttering before it really came up to speed and it had some issues between hits as well. Then later the weapon dragging on the floor probably killed or severely damaged the already not working great weapon ESC. Still, in this fight you can clearly see gigabyte taking chunks out of the lower front of Minotaur and then it starts bouncing the weapon off the floor.
@@vertigo8276 I believe Minotaur's side armour panels are just really thick aluminium. The main reason they don't have a strong anti-horizontal wedge just seems to be weight/design contraints.
SUMMARY: the opponent is slippery, he was beaten all the time, especially because there is Newton's third law that was respected by the Minotaur, but the judges decided to eliminate him.
minotaur's only problem is that they have no modular stuff, against gigabyte they should have used a very long and low wedge at the back, so it goes under their drum and pushes into their wheels, this way they could control giga and push him into arena.
A legit win for Gigabyte. While it was Gigabyte's weapon-on-weapon strikes that eventually stopped Minotaur's weapon, Minotaur only managed to stop Gigabyte's by pushing it into the wall-damage is counted only when it's the primary weapon doing it. Aggression and control from both bots was good, with neither backing down from clashing and each having their moments where they maneuvered the other into unfavorable positions. It all came down to who did damage with their primary weapon before the weapon stopped working.
>"damage is counted only when it's the primary weapon doing it." Well, not anymore. Now it's damage, no matter how it was caused, even if was self-inflicted. Gigabyte would've still won, but it's no longer about damage with a primary weapon.
@@TheTrooperMB Because their weapon never spun back up again. And that's beside the point. Their weapon, a spinning horizontal drum, didn't do the damage.
@@ConstantlyDamaged Minotaur 's drum still was too big for the bot and couldn't spin properly and it was the issue that cost them in that period of time seasons ago
@@TheTrooperMB Yes, they did have drum issues on any of the oddly raised bits of floor, but if you watch around the 0:50 mark, Gigabyte was breaking metal off the spacers that kept the drum off the floor. Its angle was just perfect to tilt Minotaur up and damage the tiny bit of clearance the bot had. Gigabyte kept taking small bits of metal off those spacers until even on the flat bits of floor the drum wouldn't spin. I agree, though. Minotaur went in with a mouth too big for their stomach.
