    by Nicki Lisa Cole, Ph.D.
    Racism refers to a variety of practices, beliefs, social relations, and phenomena that work to reproduce a racial hierarchy and social structure that yield superiority, power, and privilege for some, and discrimination and oppression for others. It can take several forms, including representational, ideological, discursive, interactional, institutional, structural, and systemic.
    Racism exists when ideas and assumptions about racial categories are used to justify and reproduce a racial hierarchy and racially structured society that unjustly limits access to resources, rights, and privileges on the basis of race. Racism also occurs when this kind of unjust social structure is produced by the failure to account for race and its historical and contemporary roles in society.
    Contrary to a dictionary definition, racism, as defined based on social science research and theory, is about much more than race-based prejudice - it exists when an imbalance in power and social status is generated by how we understand and act upon race.

    I like gothix, she is defined by her individuality whereas the rest are defined by their skin colour out of their own personal choice. This struck me immediately, just by her appearance. I would be apprehensive, and therefore probably avoid socialising with the others just to avoid any type of awkward situation where something I said could be taken completely out of context specially when I’m not focused on my skin colour and they are. Whereas I find Gothix super approachable and could comfortably converse with her about any subject. I feel she would take me as an individual rather than a colour which I’d find awkward.

    Gothix speaking about “grit” is playing into the narrative that racist Caucasian people liked to spew when they said Black people were lazy. When American slavery is the reason why America is where it’s at today. So it’s the false idea that “black people do nothing but complain”… how dare you tell the people that been and still are shitted on, need to stop complaining about being treat unfair. They are making things happen that’s why they’ve come this far but they could be further if the finish line to greatness wasn’t consistently moved every time they get closer to the top. And like Mr.Afrika said in this day Black people have to be less black to stand in the space of success amongst Caucasian people. Gothix basically saying “Caucasian people gave you something and now you have more than you had before, so stop complaining. You never even experienced what happened four hundred years plus ago. You mad you have crumbs when you should be grateful, you’re so privileged you just not working hard enough, racism isn’t the reason you’re not further.”

    My question would be is the goal to really seek racial equality or just to gain a power position in the way things are currently? Listening to many of these talking points, it sounds to me that the idea is to not change the game but only the positioning of the players. Nothing more nothing less. Game recognizes game.
    Also, I believe that black people can be racist. If the argument is that to ultimately be racist is to be in a position of systemic power play then if blacks are and put those practices into place then by definition they could be racist. What I notice in a lot of these discussions is buzzword hustling in order to gear the conversation & talking points into a certain direction hence to push a desired narrative.

    • @peacehappyb237
      @peacehappyb237 2 года назад +1

      No, we can't be racist by definition. Racism is an ( ism) meaning a system that is a group effort. . Individuals can not maintain power on their own. SO yes, black people can work within the system and can reinforce racist policies, however, that only help the dominant society. He or she is basically a puppet. Black people as a group have NO power or control over institutions such as healthcare, education, politics, religion, media, labor, law enforcement, business and economic entities,gov't( all levels), and military. the dominant society has a power structure- black people do not since we are individualistic people. We can not affect other groups' economies but the reverse is true. We can be bigots though. As far as black reinforcing racism within the power structure - that can happen -but that power structure benefits the dominant society not black people.

      @@peacehappyb237 As I originally noted, "If the argument is that to ultimately be racist is to be in a position of systemic power play then if blacks are and put those practices into place then by definition they could be racist. "
      That means if, for example, black people were to get in a position of power as you described and exercised the same practices to stay in power then yes, black people could be racist. Have a blessed day.

    • @peacehappyb237
      @peacehappyb237 2 года назад

      @@watitduful The part that you are missing is we don't have ANY power within those systems to be racist. We can follow orders from the dominant society but Black people as a whole do not gain any structural power. We can't reward or punish people. We are puppets- like Obama. WHAT did he do specifically for Black people? ????? He couldn't do anything bec the dominant society did not want him to. Black people in a power role is an illusion. It is not REAL power.

    • @peacehappyb237
      @peacehappyb237 2 года назад

      @@watitduful Again, the part you are not understanding is that we don't benefit from the power structure even if we play in it. Decisions are made by the group that has the power. There is ZERO power coming from a Black person ( even if he or she is in the position of authority)unless that black person is backed up by black economics which is not the case in ANY institution that black people and other groups deal with. Racism is a GROUP effort and they can reward or punish people. Black people can't do that whatsoever. The black person's group would BENEFIT which isn't the case, thus there is no power. How can he be racist if his OWN race and a lack of power structure from his people are not benefiting??????? Racism is an ( -ism) meaning a system

    • @peacehappyb237
      @peacehappyb237 2 года назад

      @@watitduful I get what you are saying but it is very flawed. Racism is an (ism) system that benefits whyte folks. . You are speaking of individuals with no real power. It is a two-way street as far as where the resources go ( they would benefit their people and harm their people at the same time)????
      You, for certain, need to read Black labor, white wealth by Dr. Claude Anderson. Great book. You seem like you are either a Black immigrant or you come from an immigrant background or a non-black person. I can turn this around and say black immigrant people are racists by your definition ( because of the position of power many of them hold over the native blacks) and they are most time black IMMMIGRANTS- and this is true. Obama, Harris, Winsome Sears, Eric Holder, Sheila Jackson Lee....etc Many of them typically hold positions of power and are not Native Black Americans or descendent of USA slaves. . And if you are a black immigrant yourself which I suspect, then I am certain you do not like me saying that. A lot of black immigrants are in positions of power on purpose because the WS system PUTS ( that is where the real power is ) .. They are there because their families have no connection to systematic racist events USA- it is very back that stolen black generational wealth. Native Black Americans are figuring that. THAT is why I am saying they are puppets with no power . Who owns, controls, and has the most wealth in this country? It isn't the black group. Always follow the money. We are individualistic and we don't work collectively. Racism is a COLLECTIVE thing. They do not even benefit systematically If they, we would see the black progression and not sabotage.. And when the system is done with them, then they get discarded. Happens all the time. The part again you do not get is those black people although maybe a boss or CEO has to answer to someone /group who are NOT black and will do anything to make money off of black people OR keep resources out of Black society.. They have no real power. and sometimes fight for their people because of the anti-blackness. You want to fight with semantics which isn't feasible in real situations.

    I don't mind Gothix being part of the panel and having a divergent point of view, but her smugness is off putting. Make your point and stop trying to be too cute /clever by half. Besides as Tammi demonstrated, Gothix and her talking points are easily refuted by historical facts.

    Great panel! Everyone except Gothix had a lot of good things to say. I especially enjoyed the contributions of Brother Omowale Afrika. And also, I’m regards to Gothix’s comments about the immigrants in her family being evidence of how “grit” can allow Black people to succeed in America, I just want to say as the son of Nigerian immigrants that I wholeheartedly disavow that nonsense🙅🏾‍♂️🚫😷

      I think you’re missing the forest for the tree. I agree with Gothix in that we need to come to a point to where resilience is a factor in how movement is made. Sitting around on panels, documentaries, and in barbershops/beauty salons & talking about hating white people all day isn’t revolutionary let alone productive. Venting is one thing but thinking this is a sound strategy is ridiculous at best. Win or lose, it’s still cool to give it all you got.
      What I know is that this racism evil white stuff is a hustle for many black people. Black college professors can make dough via coming up with college courses, writing book after book, holding campus seminars as well as traveling to hold seminars, going on mainstream news broadcasting, etc. to just regurgitate tired racialized talking points. Same with phony informationalists, activists and so forth. This is their bread and butter. That’s why they have circular talking points and overemphasize the idea of blacks being unable to overcome. Black anger is very profitable.
      All you have to do is peep out where many of these so called black pundits live. A good chunk of them (I’m being generous in saying that volume wise) live in white neighborhoods and well off ones lol. Since they hate white people so much why do they live next door to them? Why not live in an upper crust black neighborhood of the “oppressor” is that bad? Talking about they hate white folks but have their children attending pws’s lol! If that doesn’t tell you that somethings rotting in 🇩🇰 then I don’t know what else will clue folks in.
