- After 27 years of broadcast, MTV Asia (the second incarnation of MTV in Southeast Asia) has stopped broadcasting on September 1, 2022 at 12:00am midnight or 12:10am (which the channel was supposed to cease its broadcast at around 6:00am, based on the EPG from Singapore's SingTel TV). The channel was replaced with MTV 90s, with "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia being the first music video to be played after MTV Asia's shutdown. On the same date, the graphics of the pan-European MTV 90s channel has been updated in order to match the same on-screen graphics as the UK and Ireland counterpart.
Due to the fact that there wasn't any official announcements/news from Paramount Networks EMEAA regarding the channel's shutdown and advisories from pay-TV companies in other parts of the SEA region (asides from an advisory from SkyCable in the Philippines and a ticker indicating the channel's shutdown from Singtel in Singapore), as well as the lack of last transmission date and time for the channel, I wasn't able to record the shutdown of MTV Asia at the time when the shutdown occurred. If someone uploads a recording of the shutdown of MTV Asia, then I'm okay with it.
Anyways, the second incarnation of MTV 90s was launched on May 3, 1995, just a year after the contract between Viacom and Star was expired (the original incarnation of MTV Asia was later replaced by Channel [V], which it lasted for 27 years from 1994 until 2021). Unlike its previous incarnation, which it was a one pan-Asian feed, the second incarnation of MTV Asia allowed Viacom to launch localized feeds in the Asia-Pacific region. This includes MTV Taiwan (1995-2022?), MTV China (2003-2021), MTV Philippines (1996-2001, 2001-2010, 2014-2017, 2017-2019), MTV Thailand (2001-2013, 2013-2016), MTV Indonesia (2002-2014, 2014-2015), and MTV Vietnam (2011-present).
Prior to 2020 or 2021, the programming of MTV Asia was unique to all of the other MTV channels in the EMEAA region. Some of the programs include Chart Attack, MTV Hits, K-Wave, OK Karaoke (as well as its spin-off programs, OG Karaoke, OK Danceoke), OG Hits, SBS M's The Show, MTV Japan's Usavich, and many others. The playlist of MTV Asia was also unique, as it featured an interesting mix of music videos (ranging from the hits of Southeast Asia, J-Pop and K-Pop to the hits of the Western world, as well as alternative/indie music videos).
Sadly, all good things must come to an end, as MTV Asia has shutdown its operations on September 1, 2022, as part of a content restructure on Paramount Networks EMEAA, in preparation of the launch of the Paramount+ streaming service in the Southeast Asia region.
Last program aired before the shutdown: High Definition Hits!
Last music video aired before the shutdown: Either "Crazy" (MTV Fresh Out Live performance) by Doechii, "Wonderful Life" by Two Door Cinema Club or "Dani California" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rest in peace to MTV Asia (May 3, 1995-September 1, 2022). You'll be missed forever.

MTV Live (International including Asia)
MTV 90s (Southeast Asia except Malaysia and Hong Kong)
Info: SBS M The Show was moved to MTV Live (on selected countries), majority of the countries aired MTV World Stage on MTV Live
This is a treat for people who loves 90's music.
The Vietnamese feed of MTV it's still airing
And on MTV Taiwan..
Simply because it is a channel under management of IMC not Paramount Networks EMEAA
@@dani.624 okeh, so that's why
It's died early this year. That channel is already a mess since soulless contents keep on air.
Most likely Paramount+ Will Launch sometime in the Southeast Asia, either by early or mid-2023. as i speak.
Only Malaysia in SEA that doesn't bring MTV 90s to its DTH platform although it's available on Measat 3a for Indonesian viewers. What a shame. Luckily for some Malaysian viewers they're able to purchase Indonesian DTH decoders (kvision) via online shopping platform.
MTV 80'S AND MTV 00'S IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR MANY YEARS.
Sorry, MTV Indonesia had different ownerships too:
2002-2006: Handled by Viacom (now Paramount), broadcasted in satellite and also Terrestrial UHF (relayed by Global TV Indonesia, now is GTV)
2007-2011: Handled by Global TV Indonesia (now GTV). Because GTV buys MTV brand license and GTV choose to produce own MTV content without supervised from Viacom/MTV Asia (Differ in 2002-2006 era that still supervised from Viacom/MTV Asia)
2014-2015: Aired in terrestrial UHF in some cities, but the content is pure from MTV Asia (They don't produced own programs)
MTV Asia in Indonesia was a huge success, especially in mid 90's until early 2000's. Until one of the television channel in Indonesia (Was called Anteve, but now is ANTV) interested to broadcast some MTV Asia programs in UHF terrestrial
Because of that, MTV Asia has some thematic programs that are for Indonesia, such as MTV Ampuh (Indonesian chart show, continued until 2011 because of this chart show is iconic in Indonesia. Aired in MTV Asia until 2006 because of demand from Malaysia, and produced by GTV from 2007-2011), MTV 100% Indonesia (Indonesian VJ shows with Indonesian Music Videos. Discontinued in 2002 because of MTV Indonesia was launched), MTV Land (VJ Shows with Indonesian VJ, mixed music videos. Discontinued in 2002 because of MTV Indonesia was launched), MTV Salam Dangdut (MTV Asia tried to upscale Dangdut genre music and broaden to a larger audience. Discontinued in 2002 because of MTV Indonesia was launched), MTV Getar Cinta (Love themed music videos. Discontinued in 2002 because of MTV Indonesia was launched).
One of the known Indonesian VJ from MTV Asia is Nadya Hutagalung, Sarah Sechan (until the beginning of MTV Indonesia), and Jamie Aditya
90s Was Baby Was Born
Hindi pa na Feature ang Westlife sa MTV 90s sana naman MTV 90s
MTV 90's Europe
I prefer MTV 00s , can't relate with MTV90s
MTV Philippines had different iterations and ownerships:
1992-1995: Ermita Electronics Corporation under UHF Channel 23
1996-2001: ABS-CBN under Studio 23 (now-defunct)
2001-2006: Nation Broadcasting Company under UHF Channel 41 (now One Sports)
2006-2010: All Youth Channels, Inc.
2014-2017: Viva Entertainment
2017-2019: Solar Entertainment Corporation
It sad that seeing closure of MTV Asia and Channel [V] would mark as the end of music television in South East Asia as we know it. I think this was primarily due to the declined viewership of music videos on television and the increase of music videos available on several streaming platforms like Apple Music and RUclips.
Correction. MTV Asia is also air on Channel 23 back in 1992 under EEC (Ermita Electronic Corporation). (Pre Studio 23 era) (Via Star TV era but later change to Channel V also the same Channel and company)
Another Correction. The frequency of NBC (or Nation Broadcasting Corporation) as an affiliate of MTV Philippines from 2001-2006 is UHF Channel 41 which is now on-air as One Sports not UHF Channel 21 which is owned by Southern Broadcasting Network currently on-air as Solar Flix
