  • Here is most of the cast from the popular Uk TV series Minder from 1979-1994.
    At its peak minder attracted over 16million viewers.
    Along with the reoccurring characters, the programme was also packed with leading British actors throughout the series.
    One of the shows highlights was Arthur's misquoted sayings and expressions.

    How did we get from great, entertaining television like this to love Island and all the modern day dross?
    George Cole as Arthur had so many of Alister Sims mannerisms, superb. I watched them all originally and am still watching today. A great show from much happier times.

      @andicog 3 года назад +10

      @@johnsaunders2109 George Cole lived with Alister Sim and his wife for many years when he was younger, if you notice the two are in a few films together, 'Cottage to let' being the first I think, later they did St Trinians with George playing the spiv 'flash Harry'

      @@johnsaunders2109 Yes, George and his adoptive mother moved in with Alister Sim after his role in Cottage to let, Sim agreed to be his mentor and cole was unofficially adopted by Sim , they were in 11 films together , he lived there from age 15 to 27 . Some of George coles sideways glances and other mannerisms are pure Alister Sim. They are both brilliant in the film 'The green man'.

      @@zenaaskew7710 unfortunately, shows like The Sweeney and Minder are heavily censored when shown now on the likes of ITV 4. Some of the best lines are being dubbed out! Example: In the Sweeney , Reagan is talking to a ' snout' , when a girl passes by in Tennis gear. Both ogle her, and the 'snout' issues the great line " I could be arrested for what youre thinking!". Needless to say, not a hint of that line on ITV4 !!!Best to get the DVD , but I bet they'll be censoring them soon !!

      Yep. I loved the lack of 'comforting triumphalism' that you'd have been force-fed if it'd been an American production. It was great because it wasn't all expensive fake white teeth and flattering tales of wholesome success.
      Just like in Steptoe & Son or Porridge, bad things were allowed to happen. People were just people. And what about the Sweeney? Fantastic stuff: the supposedly good guys often lost or cheated or got a kicking. Imagine trying to get that kind of thing past a moronic modern focus-group!
      As someone else has already said in the Comments, the real Arthurs and Terrys in London are actually very serious and extremely unpleasant 'gentlemen' indeed, but Minder got the balance of seedy rogue and honest bloke just right.

At the time, his new band in the ‘80’s was called The Firm and the question of how they got the name came up. He said it was just so simple and direct, yet it could be anything, including a criminal underground like you would see on the English TV show “Minder”.

    During the intro when Terry is looking to buy a car off Arthur, the white car with a blue stripe down the side is a Mk2 Ford Escort Harrier. My mate had one back in the 80's, I'd been in it for thousands of miles cruising around, such a rare car.
    So, two days ago i saw one on the M4, and today I come across this video.
