If you liked Mice and Mystics, you’ll love this! I only wish there was a physical book instead of a web-based app. I understand why there wasn’t a book, though. It would be as thick as the dictionary. Other than that, it’s fun!
The characters have fun names and really cute portraits on the character cards. It looks like you're going to be painting miniatures in 2022! Overall, this is the sort of game which makes an outstanding gift--the presentation is vibrant and fun, and I hope the game play is awesome.
I hope the gameplay is awesome, as well! This is truly a beautiful looking game and I believe it will stand-out and catch the attention of anyone that glances at it. The minis will look great painted and I think they may not be too difficult to paint.
Great Video. Just bought my on day release at my local gaming store. Was not able to open the box until a week later. I was happy and a way disappointed opening the box. Everything was inside nice and neat until I notice I was missing the bag of those dial pegs thingy. At the moment I deal with what I got. Might have to improvise and do what I have.
That’s too bad! Go to Plaid Hat Games website www.plaidhatgames.com and request the item. I’m sure they’ll help you. I preordered mine a while ago and thankfully nothing was missing. I remember buying Aeon’s End a long time ago and the same thing happened to me. I requested the item and got it pretty quick. I hope you get that settled. I know how it feels when things like that happen. Good luck!
Curious about the rule book when you get around to the review. The 'story' games from Plaid Hat have not had the best rules, in my opinion. Still a pretty game and I'm sure it'll be fun.
I agree with you! Although I’ve enjoyed PHG’s releases, the rule books tend to be difficult to follow. I will definitely bring that to the forefront of the review. It is definitely a beautiful looking game!
I wanted to bring you an update on the rulebook. I just finished reading it and it was very clear and easy to understand. It was organized very well making it easy to follow. I didn’t feel like I had to flip through the rulebook to understand any of the mechanics. Also, it doesn’t seem to be a very complex game. It does seem fun and the mechanics seem really solid. I would describe it like a mix of Mice and Mystics and Aftermath but with refined mechanics. Hopefully there are no issues with the app. Anyway, that’s it for now! I may be doing a playthrough of the first scenario or two, if you’re interested. Stay tuned!
I literally had this in my plaid games basket the day before you released this video, really want it for me and my daughter to play. However 80$ shipping to the UK...... :(. Fingers crossed it comes to retail in the UK
Thanks! I will be doing a review. In my reviews, I include a section showcasing how the game plays. I do my best to be as clear as possible to give viewers a good idea of how the game plays and works. Hopefully when it’s released, you stop by and check it out!
@@SoloBoardGamingKnight While I appreciate a review, I have to admit I'd love to see a gameplay video as well. No one has one out yet, and I think this will be a very popular game, so I'd be willing to bet a gameplay video would get a lot of views.
On the other hand, since this RUclips channel is basically a passion project for you, I do understand if you're not wanting to take on more than you already do. Either way, I greatly appreciate your videos. 🙂
@@johnwaynemcclung8056 I appreciate your kind words! Thank you! Let me see how the game plays out. If I can figure out a good way to record it, I’ll strongly consider showing off the first scenario or two (keeping spoilers to a minimum). Personally, I’m interested in seeing how the different era’s change the story and how the gameplay is affected during that span of time. There are still a couple of reviews I’m currently working on (should be releasing throughout the coming week) but as soon as that is out of the way, I’ll be dedicating my time to Familiar Tales. If it’s anything like Mice and Mystics or Aftermath, I’m pretty sure we’re in for a treat! Thanks for your input and suggestion. Comments like this help guide the channel. Take care!
@@johnwaynemcclung8056 I wanted to bring you a quick update. I just finished reading the rulebook and I realized there may be a way to film a play through. There’s not too much to keep track of (camera-wise) and I think it may be possible. Still no promises but it seems very likely. If it does happen, it will most likely be the first scenario or two. Since your request, I’ve been thinking about how to make it work. It may not be the highest product quality but at least I’ll give it an honest try! Take care and thanks for the suggestion.
Didn't knew about the game and after your video and some others i checked, i went and bought the game🙂. I have mice and mystics and liked it so this was a must😉. The only thing is that i think you overreacted with the Minis. They are not so detail like you mentioned, they are just ok.(i think you haven't seen bloodborne or oathsworn yet 😅.)anyway thanks for the video 👍
Oathsworn is on my “To Buy” list. I registered to be notified when it releases on its website. I personally really enjoyed the minis, however, when compared to other board games like Etherfields or your example of Oathsworn, for example, it’s not the on the same level. One of my upcoming videos will be about my favorite board game miniatures! Thank you for watching! I appreciate it! Take care.
I’ve payed for absolutely every game I have reviewed, unboxed and played through. Never have I been sponsored and never have I been paid for any of my videos. This is a passion hobby and I do it for the love of the hobby! You could watch every video that I’ve created in the past 6 months since I’ve started this channel and you’ll notice I don’t even ask for subscribers or likes. Everything I do for this channel is out of passion and the desire to share my experiences with the board game community.
I apologize if I have offended you. To be honest, so far I have come across gamers who are sent games and I am getting might at their lack of criticism. I have hundreds of board games and made the mistake of listening to praises heaped at games that when I paid for were dteadful. Yes, hard way of wasting money but now trying to be more selective. Please accept my apology because I feel really bad the way I said what I said.
@@apollonia6656 No worries! To be honest, I understand you. Like you and everyone else, I want to fill my shelves with board games I want to play. Maybe that’s why you notice a positive tone to my reviews or videos. The truth is, I do a lot of research on a board game before I commit to it. If I’m not interested in a game, I won’t buy it. However, when I am interested in a game and I have high expectations for it (like Transformers Deck-Building Game), it really stings when it doesn’t reach its potential. There are a few others like X-Men Mutant Insurrection and The Batman Who Laughs Rising that really disappointed me. I wasn’t making videos at that time so I didn’t cover them much but they did make my list of most disappointing board games. Anyway, this probably will shine some light on the videos I create. There’s no need to apologize, nothing happened here. This was actually a good opportunity to let others know that I don’t get paid for this and that I do it for the love of the hobby! Take care and stay safe!
Thank you. I play solo and back in 2008+ there were very few games that could be played solo; sure, some were tweaked but really were not good. I bought and bought ! Then in about 2017 I started buying Smart and ThinkFun puzzlers . It was before Xmas last year that I looked at my shelves and wondered if the solo market imoroved.....went on line and made the same mistakes. Most channels praise games and tell you the solo mode is great...silly me ! You guessed it, I bought more than 20 board games in 5 weeks and only found three to be enjoyable. I love and live gaming but really get miffed at some gamers who claim that this is that game is the best 'ever'. You are right....a lot need subscribers and I do that with some but I also reject their claims most of the time because those who but their own will tell the truth. It is shopping around for honesty! I appreciate and admire honesty and you are honest. Thank you. Kind regards from GB.
@@apollonia6656 You have a lot more experience than me with board games. I’m going on my 2nd year now. Maybe the games I may find fresh, you may have already played something similar or even better. I used to love video games. I played them for decades. Today, I would rather just play a board game. I’ve seen everything video games have to offer (feels like it, anyway). It’s time to find out what this hobby has to offer. Hopefully I won’t feel the same with board games in the future.

The rulebook for Aftermath was a nightmare.
It really was. Terrible! Thankfully, Familiar Tales’ rulebook was much, much better. Very easy to read, follow and learn.
