People are acting like he is the greatest coach of all time. As a Titans fan, this was a long time coming for the past 3 years. When we lost Dean pees, lafleur, and smith as our coordinators, this team fell apart. Yes, there was a lot of decisions by our previous GM which were awful, but there was also a whole year where we didn't have a defensive coordinator necause vrable said we didn't really need one because he was doing defensive play calling
That year our defense. Was one of the worst in the NFL. Great coach, but stubborn and will not agree to change

Rich I am 70 and I remember when they hired Bo, everyone said Bo who? until he sank Woody's dream team 24-12. Ricky Leach, Rob Lytle etc, etc, etc, the list is full of greats going back yrs. I watched for yrs while in the Army. Then there was Bob Ufer...I used to turn on the TV, turn the sound all the way down and tune in Ufer and sit there and listened to him and his horn. Ufer and Bo and so many others we're there last night I'm sure. But guy I know how you feel, that and Finebaum ate crow this morning but apologized on a show this morning to Harbaugh. My teeth about flew across the room. As a MI fan that felt just fine to say the least.

The only people calling this a mistake are players no longer with the team and professional observers. The fans who spent an entire year watching Vrabel absolutely waste Henry and what was left of RT's career just so he wouldn't have to fire Downing know better. Vrabel refused to evolve. His ceiling was losing the AFC championship in 2020. Since that high water mark its been a steady downward slide with steady downward excuses ever since. I don't have any faith in AAS actually burning the bank to get a coach that can take this franchise to the Suprebowl, but I know that Vrabel wasn't ever gonna do it. Vrabel was a Jeff Fisher clone with a lesser mustache. Glad he's gone so that Ran can bring this team into the modern era.

Everybody is making kneejerk reactions to this firing but this doesn't surprises me one bit. Vrabel shares equal blame in the Titans going from the AFC Championship game (2018 Season) to picking in the Top 10 of the 2024 draft. Vrabel and Robinson (former GM) had total control. Vrabel failed to bring in new ideas and always promoted from within regardless of the abilities of those he was promoting. Go back and look. He promoted position coaches from within when everyone questioned it (Dude, why in the heck would you promote a position coach who has the same philosophy as the coach you just fired???) I believed that he was a good coach but too stuck in his way to understand the need to evolve.

Id like to think that there was some disagreements in direction between Vrabel and others there because there was no other reason to let him go. Ill be surprised of Vrabel doesn't get a HC gig someplace else. I can't imagine Vrabel wanting to go the Patriots as HC unless Bill. B. willingly steps down on his own for Vrabel. I can see how all of this could be discouraging for Titans fans. Vrabel helped the Titans seem like a threat and now with him gone and other pieces going, yikes.

I definitely think this was a mistake but I understand why they did it. CJ Stroud. Throw in DeMeco, Shane Steichen with Indy, and if Trevor/Doug can get their act together. That division is all of a sudden loaded. So I understand the panic. But stupid decision.

  • @ES350gitgapped

It could be that Ran Carthon wants more San Francisco people and is eyeballing Kyle Shanahan. I think it's a mistake to let Vrabel go. Everyone knew Arthur Smith was out of Atlanta. Why not rejoin him with Vrabel in Tennessee again when we had an incredible offense! We had weapons then too that are now missing, but Arthur Smith himself is a weapon at OC. I'll miss Mike Vrabel, but it might be cool to bring in a staff who will let Levis run wild. Nobody knows the future, but I don't know who the next Andy Reid is we're looking to hire. I don't see anyone I know would be better. The team is basically all-new again next year. It's a rebuild and maybe with Ran's leadership, we can build it up to be respectable and fun to watch again.
