I am nervous for Woll's return. I think the Leafs need to shelter him by easing him in and limiting his starts leading into the playoffs. Obviously we have not seen him play yet but Stolarz has been playing so solid I think he deserves 60-70% of the starts for the remainder of the season.
Cooper said it, same cast of characters. As far as the mindset and attitude is concerned, these guys are in the prime of their lives. They need to get it through their heads that there are no excuses for poor performance when you’re a professional. No one expects perfection, they expect a perfect effort.
The injury issues (everyone expects him to get hurt again this season) affects how fans view the extension he got. Especially if stolarz is this consistent all year and we can’t afford to pay him
Yes, keeping focusing only on the regular season. It's best to always block that terrible playoff performance out of your mind just for your own sanity.
I can’t believe that they gave woll a large contract without more games without injury. End of this year if he is not playing full tandem with stolarz then dump that contract for stolarz.
Kyper is bang on about there attitudes after that embarrassing loss ! Where’s the heart … aren’t the boys pissed the F off this keeps happening ??? Enough is enough ? Are you winning the cup or just playing another season of hockey because it’s your job ??? diiiig the f in already !!
The reason they did the Frozen Frenzy, is because the NHL is scared of the NBA opening night, even though there's tens of millions of fans with no crossover audence.
@@serotoninlight7269 because the NHL is a business and has business partners; ESPN and TNT in the US. They cover the NBA on Christmas so they would like to have as large an audience as possible watch those games. Regardless, the NFL has started to schedule games on that day and the ratings dominated that of the NBA. Meaning, the American markets would not care for NHL as it is third to the other two sports leagues. New Years might be a better day, which it probably is since that is when they scheduled the Winter Classic initially, because the NHL would only compete against college football. Hockey is still second to that but there is more of an audience who would hopefully tune in to the NHL games. The NHL is not concerned with Canadian markets; they will watch regardless. The most important focus is about growing revenue from American broadcasting rights through ESPN and TNT. The more marquee matchups the league can sell these networks, the more money for owners and players.
Toronto Media is excellent for over-reaction. They built a business around over-reaction. I tell you now, Easton Cowan is an average NHL player at best, even if he makes the league two years from now. Woll is a nice guy and a good goalie when he plays, but he is not a Stanley-Cup-winning calibre goalie. And how fast did these three here forget how they deride Keefe’s decision for not playing Hildeby last year after the 2nd game against the Devils?
Easton Cowan will be a good player . Woll is great when he’s healthy . Hildeby is good he won his first game ever against New Jersey who is favourited to win cup. He’s 22 years old and will just get better and he’s 6”7.
I do think Berube is and will make a big difference but at end of day it’s same players you can’t change someone if they don’t want to change . Wel see , if they don’t do anything in playoffs they really need to think about their players . Marner will likely go and maybe Tavares
I think this result made mentally good for the team . Not so good for super-demanding Toronto fans and media . It was not only that Leafs' played bad. Columbus played a good game. They outskated Leafs and with short passes passed Leafs' defense lines .
I think the leafs are a very eastern conference team. Hopefully treliving wants a more western conference team. Marner and Tavares are the anchors holdimg this team down. You can get 3-4 skaters for those players. Leafs need a Two-way first line defenceman. Goalie is fine for me.
Isn't it interesting that in nature, buds always flourish in spring and leaves always fall in autumn, but in the NHL the opposite is always true: the Buds flourish in autumn and the Leafs fall in spring.
NHL needs to find a day where they have an open schedule - Thanksgiving and Christmas are taken by the NFL and NBA. I know the players would hate it but what about NYE or New Years Day? Cap it off with the Winter Classic?
@@madelyns9908 sounds good. Like games split half before midnight and the other games on the 1st? Hockey needs to find ways to hype up their games, especially during the regular season. Word is there’s a Red Zone style program in the works
Lmao ya seriously! I checked the rest of the games, and leafs weren’t the worst. Granted I wouldn’t expect any teams media and podcasts etc to downplay it.

It’s a new system, some older players yes, you can only control the future, but not the past
Last year against Columbus leafs were down 5-0 and came back in the third period. They still lost, but the other night they didn’t. The game just went against what berube has been preaching so it’s a clear talking point for leafs media. They have to be reactive to put out content 5 days a week. Goes into die hard fan focus.
Chief should call in the top paid 5 guys and tell them the effort is unacceptable, you can't show up every other night. The top guys need to produce they are making big money.
@@madelyns9908 I know what you are saying. However, the NBA has the ability to play games in those facilities 6 other nights. That's a them problem. How feasible that is(shrugs shoulders). The NHL doesn't have a ton of weight to throw around, so I'd be throwing it all into that direction. The NHL is so very bad at marketing itself. It needs to identify itself with something like this in the States IMO.

We've seen the pattern of the Leafs playing down to lesser competition......far too many times with this group of high paid Leafs players. It's sad to see again......but there is no one to blame but the players who lead the team. It is clearly not the fault of the younger players....or the newest acquisitions. It all falls in the lap of the high paid clowns on this team....who can't play consistently, if their lives depend on it. That's the sad truth of the matter. And then they put up excuses in the post-game interviews, to boot. That part is sickening. At least Berube didn't partake...and make a point about it. I'm hoping that Berube drives the point home that these guys will never succeed if they don't come to play every time they get on the ice. If they can't do it now.....they will never do it in playoff hockey. We've seen that too many times.
To say this will take away from the record, that goal record dont mean that much ??? WTF how many players win SC every year like 17-22 with coaches and stuff. And how many get ALL time goal record? Ovi never had less than 30 goals in full season ever and even if now at 39 years of age he has down year so be it., wow. How many goal Gretz was getting in last few years ?!, Not many...
Without lockouts and covid, ovi broke the record already. Just like the leafs cap issues due to covid, every other team would have started future money contracts in 2020/2021. Media has to make narratives more than, “it’s a non issue” in order to get views and clicks. Sorry for the tangent 😅
Biggest source of sponsor money I assume, but it is weird how quickly it was normalized in the nhl. Glad I’m not growing up with all of the commercials trying to make you think there’s a chance gambling changes your life and brings happiness.
