    Unfortunatly, this wouldn't work on my bike. Wish it would have. A simple and easy way to strengthen those bars.

      @@trekOCLVone The sides on the T-Rex heavy duty plate I have extend higher than yours. Also the brackets were too short to reach the crash bar clamp.

      Thank you for the compliment. In my case when I go to sell my Versys X300 the new owner will need to decide what to take off of the bike. Every accessory or mod I've done can be reversed or taken off leaving no trace. I've not modified the bike or any wiring in any way. The X300 is such a nice light do-all bike. My latest video is a summary of 20+ accessories/mods all in one. Most of the 20 accessories have their own expanded video. Enjoy !

      Amazon to the rescue - the connection brackets are just the length needed and minimal drilling of holes. It was a piece of cake.

    I’m watching all your versys x300 videos.
    Had an amazing versys 650 a few years back.
    Saw a 2018 300 at my local bike shop with accessories. 9k on the odometer. They want $4000. Very tempting.

    Any reason you don't tie in to the bash plate where the bolt joins the plate to the stay. Next to your finger at 2:00 and 2:55 in the video. Would provide at least one hole pre-drilled for you.

      I think I answer your question at @9:30 where I talk about using only two parts that are purchased off Amazon and there is no fabrication needed. Only drilling of two holes in the T-Rex vertical brackets that go up to the top/front of the engine to utilize M10 Engine/frame bolt mount. In order to tie into the bash plate bolts that you mention could also be done but I could fine an off the shelf solution going in that direction. The two parts that I did use required no fabrication, bending, cutting or even painting. It was unbelievably simple with just two holes needed on each side for the M8 bolts. Thank you for your question.

      A long time ago I had a road bike and a dirt bike. Back at that time the bike I had were pretty fast and I got a lot of the "Go Fast" out of my system. I bought my X300 in June of this year and have been updating and modifying it pretty much non-stop and have been having as much fun doing that as riding it as well. Inventory was zero this summer around here and finding a X300 to sit on before buying it was a challenge. Enjoy the videos on my channel and you will make the right decision on the bike purchase. The X300 has a lot of farkling products out there and it is almost endless.

      After the T-Rex Heavy Duty skid plate was attached to the OEM crash bars AND the HD skid plate also had the 2 monster angle iron brackets back to both Center Stand/frame M10 bolts I came up with a solution to not have to remove anything in order to change the oil. So, I investigated the use of an oil pan drain valve and plastic trough. And I made a video on all the details right here on my Channel. Hi there, have the same bike. Crashed twice at low speed with the stock kawa crashbar (and dropped it few times). Bent, cracked the plastics a little the one time. Now have giv crashbars which mount to the engine block and resonate wildly... You have a nice design but not sure how much those lamp clamps can take. Oh and thanks for the skidplate info (basic t-rex mounts to the oilpan), now I have to replace that too... :)

    • @trekOCLVone
      @trekOCLVone  3 года назад +1

      This beefing up probably isn't done yet. I am looking at crash bar protectors that like little footballs that are bolted onto the crash bars to somewhat protect the bars but add G-force softening to aid in the damage reduction. In looking at the cost of the plastic cowls and the controls let alone foot pegs and other parts that will get damaged in a fall the cost of the crash bars and attachment to the skid plate is much less. The cost of the exhaust pipes is over $900 USD and that is insane. And - yes - the standard T-Rex skid plate is no good. There is only one skid plate that is legit and that is the T-Rex Heavy Duty Skid Plate as it attaches to the stout engine/frame mounts. The HD skid plate has only one flaw with the lack of fore/aft support so see my other video on that where I add a 5th brace back to the center stand M10 frame mount. Or better yet see the latest video where I beef up the T-Rex Skid Plate even more with TWO braces back to both M10 center stand mounts and lift the whole bike in the air with a motorcycle jack. That is stout and no other skid plate can even get close to that rigidity. Thanks and enjoy your X300.

    For the TRex center stand, is there supposed to be any horizontal movement once installed? I feel like a need a spacer. The spring holds it to one side of course, but just wondering if it's supposed to be that way or if I'm missing hardware. No instructions or parts list came with it....and I've got everything from their how to video along with a couple extra washers. But still, feels like the mounting area is larger on my bike.

    • @trekOCLVone

      Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with the T-Rex Center Stand. There are quite a few X300 owners that have them and an owner should comment either here or on the Versys X300 forum. If you are a member of the forum I would post this question in the General comments category. After many years of not riding motorcycles I bought my Versys X300 because it was a small and light venture bike. But being an engineer, I can make it better by applying my knowledge and experience to finding ways to improve the little Versys using simple, safe and inexpensive parts and sharing what I'm doing on my RUclips channel. I guess you could call it a honeymoon. You should watch my videos and implement some of the ideas especially where safety is greatly improved like the full LED light swap out on bike. Enjoy and ride safe.

      I appreciate your reply, thanks! To be honest I haven’t bout my Versys x300 yet… However, I’m studying about it and enjoying you guys having fun and discovering all about it! I knew your DYI was high degree and I was impressed with when you change the led lights. The only thing I know is that as much weight you put on top of your bike as much petrol it’ll consume. Never mind. Keep going and have fun!

      Lew Irvine - in each video I mention the part numbers for everything (like the front sprocket swap) or I think in the text below each video where I'm comments I list the link to the item on the source page. Like in this video read the comments right below the large title and my channel name with Icon I list the link for the angle brace, clamp bar and the M6X20mm flange head bolt (because these look the best). I list all the Links to all the significant parts. I don't show links for common fasteners like M8 x 22mm bolts that use. I buy most of my bolts, nuts, screws, etc. from either Home Depot or Amazon. But anything in particular I'll list the link. My most safety oriented it the full LED swap out for the bike. My favorite update is the Denali Soundbomb Split Air Horn that is invisible if you are looking at my bike but it is a blast ! ( pun intended )

    I wonder what Kawasaki was thinking when they designed the bars. The flex is disappointing. Maybe they made them intentionally flexing so the bars will bend before the frame? Or they were just sloppy designing this...

    • @trekOCLVone
      @trekOCLVone  3 года назад +1

      As demonstrated in the video the amount (or lack of) strength of the genuine bars is weak. I think I could fold them right down by hand. With the attachment to the skid plate both the crash bars and skid plate reinforce each other. The skid plate continues to impress me compared to any other skid plate. As I mention the T-Rex Heavy Duty skid plate is the one one that doesn't attach to the fragile aluminum screws/ears on the oil pan. The oil pan was never designed to handle any type of impact or force from a skid plate.
      I think Kawasaki just didn't give a HOOT about the potential of the Versys X300 for an off road Adventure Bike to the degree they should have.
