New cantata I've never heard before. Yet again I am deeply impressed by Bach. Another musical treasure box that I stumble upon, delighted to know it, to hear it, to savor it. Always reminds me of the first time I heard a Bach work, Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, First Movement, when I was 14 years old. My ears immediately pricked up like a dog's, totally amazed at this new sound I had never heard (up until then I had heard Mozart, Beethoven, Handel and Vivaldi). I relished hearing Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, and the rest of the Brandenburg Concertos, for years. Then when I was in college, I must've been about 20 years old, I heard my first Bach cantata at a choral concert. Wowie-zowie, I was blown away, with again my ears pricking up like a dog's. LOL. One of life's little pleasures, hearing totally new Bach works...
Well, you’re right. Bach’s music and especially his vocal works and his cantatas equal nothing in terms of musical quality. The latter in my view the most significant music ever to have come down to us.
I experienced a similar epiphany when I heard Brandenburg Concerto #4 for the first time, when I was 14. You could well say that my ears immediately pricked up. Until that moment I didn't realize that such wonderful music existed. That early experience launched me on a journey through Bach's music that continues to this day.

How come I have not heard the choral prelude in Bach's top 20 ? But hard to pull off. In particular the legato voice in the choir against percussive jabs. Everyone has to be precisely together to crystalyze the sound. This was close but the effect was not quite there. This was next level, with wider choral dynamic, treating the chorus as though it is a string section.
