Edo Itachi sealing Nagato in the gourd is probably one of the most cruel things that has ever happened in Naruto. Nagato was ripped out of the pure lands against his will, forced to fight against Naruto, B, and Itachi, and then his soul is damned to the land of drunken dreams forever. And so was the sacrifice used to bring Nagato back. And now since Itachi is back in the pure lands, he can't even release him from the gourd, so Nagato is stuck there. Forever.
I always thought about that too. At least he had peace in his last seconds... "alive"

Otherwise, someone like Madara could just bring themselves back. And someone like Tobirama could probably figure out a jutsu to bring himself back, too, like a weird reverse summoning/edo tensei combo.
Kishimoto got so stuck on the Sharingan and tailed beast he forgot about all the other strengths in his story

I can't even say he did much for the tailed beast. You know what the ability of Chomei, the seven tails is? Really bright scales and flying? Many of the Tailed Beasts kind of have lackluster abilities. They just have lots of chakra and the bijuudama.
shikamaru is definitely one of the smartest characters, that doesn’t necessarily mean he could beat everyone in a fight. what comes with intelligence is knowing what fights you can and can’t win and what you need to win them. shikamaru has always been more of a threat in the role of a tactician or leader than a warrior. which is why i think he was the perfect option for leading the retrieval mission

I've always said theres three characters that have the potential to be stupidly OP so they need a weakness those three characters are naruto, Gaara and Shikamaru. Naruto is already crazy powerful he cant have intelligence like gaara or shikamaru otherwise it would be too much. Gaara they needed to remove the one tails from him because with his intelligence and having the amount of chakra and sand abilities already again to much. And finally shikamaru needed to be lazy because a shikamaru that cares again would be to much. Nick down played shikamaru abilities he gave up in the chunin exams because he didnt care even though he could have won the higher ups recognised this and still promoted him. After the shinobi war his girl was annoyed that he was still chunin because he has the potential to be higher than that he just didnt care

And future gaara becomes stupid strong he ends having gold sand imagine having one tail beast as well and this will be the one tail beast that actually likes and gets along with gaara we all know when a tail beast actually likes their jinchuriki they give them access to their abilities upgrade the jinchuriki abilities e.g naruto and killer bee
In my opinion, the smartest character from Naruto is Itachi.
Okay, maybe he wasn't that smart when he killed his clan as a child but he had the excuse that he was a child at the time, but apart from that as a young adult, he was smart and superior in every fight and his plans worked. Even if they didn't work out like the plan with Naruto, it was an advantage and meant that he was able to dissolve Edo Tensei in the end.
As he said himself, every jutsu has its weak point. There is no such thing as invincible.
He was like Batman^^ That's why he had to die from an illness like every overpowered character.
Shisui only had 2 panels in the Manga and is already one of the most popular characters in Naruto.

It's crazy to me that we could've had an actual one shot specifically about Sakumo and got to learn a lot about him but now we may never get that.
We might see Sakumo in Minato's story since they both existed around the same time and were often compared "White fang or Yellow Flash"

A healthy Kimimaro, at the point he was in the story would be a menace. His taijutsu and durability alone would make him a threat to most ninja. He got completely parked when village ninjas started walking around in chakra mechs and manipulate dimensions. For his time though, a beast for sure.

The problem with Kakuzu and Kimimaro is that they were set up to be something but never did anything with it in the story.
Yeah, and Kakuzu especially was one of the most egregious sacrifices to the plot in the whole series. It’s impossible to gauge what they were truly capable of because the narrative needed them to die before it ever bothered to properly explore them.
Had the same feeling. Kimimaro is one of my favourite characters and both of them should've stayed for longer, as they had that unique "something". I also remember my eyes getting foxy when they showed Kakuzu with his long, straight and dark hair in sight🌙

Regarding the shikamaru novels... didnt it state that because he spent so much time behind a desk that his skill in ninjutsu has deteriorated. He was essentially weaker than his war arc self.
@SSKe214 yeah pretty much, narutos time as hokage(before boruto) is pretty much spent exclusively behind the desk. They had just finished a war and he was working to maintain peace w the other lands. In early boruto, sasuke was saying narutos movement has become sluggish. The same thing happened w shikamaru essentially bc hes narutos strategist. The ones that kept their skills sharp were sasuke n kakashi. Check out sasukes light novel(now manga) and kakashis light novel as well theyre dope.

I mean the entire series he was punching upwards and still manage to take out charcter 10x stronger than him. He can certainly be a threat to anyone who isnt god tier in naruto lol. Even in "weakened state" he still manage to catch 5 kages off guard. With naruto being the only person able to break out(nc mentioned gaara but i dont remember) mind u gaara and naruto have damn near unlimited chakra.(i think ginkaku broke out as well, but his chakra is also immense) And he still caught the other 3 dead to right. I think shikas character is fine.. i will concede that his intelligence got dwarfed in part 2 when characters like itachi kakashi kabuto hell even sasuke are more fleshed out. But those individuals are literally some of the most powerful beings in the verse lol.

While I agree immensely about the sannin NOT being in their prime back during the 2nd war, I think there may be severe translation confusion about Sakumo. If you check the manga translation, it only says he had respect on the same level as the sannin. In both dub and sub on Hulu, Minato is referencing the “sannin” title as paling in comparison to the “white fang” title. So ultimately, Minato is only referencing titles. Not raw power.
So Minato never says Sakumo could take all 3 Sannin in a fight. I think people take that translation too far to hype Sakumo for more than what he is. Additionally, the Sannin during the 2nd war were probably closer to Kakashi/Gai/Kabuto level. They each definitely got way stronger as they grew older.
Tsunade didn’t have Mitonic regeneration. Orochimaru didn’t have reanimation, forbidden jutsu, and his mutant snake abilities. Jiraiya didn’t know the Rasengan or vast knowledge of ninjutsu.

Didn't Sakumo came from the same generation as the Sannins?
1. If the Sannins weren't in their prime during that time, what makes you think Sakumo was?
For Sakumo to have the same respect as the Sannins is damn impressive considering he came from an ordinary clan/family and had a non-hokage sensei.
"Further advanced his medical ninjutsu knowledge" is a fancy way of saying Kabuto did a ton of human experimentation before turning the chakra scalpel on himself.

Most people dont think shikamaru is crazy strong. But the reason people love him is because he is so real.
1. One of the few people who didnt judge naruto jist because of others.
2. He avenged his sensei.
3. He was able to keep the team together and encourage choji to fight.
And last, the one i ride on thr MOST.
4. Just imagine...your sensei already died, and your father, the man who comforted you, loved you, taught you to think for yourself has died. And you could see the massive explosion that killed you and your friends fathers. Because youre fight in A WARRRR, you were dragged in. And instead of falling to his knees and crying like he did with asuma...my man looks at his friends..looks at ino, and my man straight up says no time to grieve, save youe tears for later we got a mf JOB TO FINISH. and he is on GO MODE.
Shikamaru isn't loved because hes strong, he is loved because hes not strong but still shows up, and gone show out.
I agree with all that but shikamaru isnt strong because he was lazy and he needed to be lazy otherwise he would be too much. If this was shikamaru's level when he doesn't care I'm sorry he would have been been super OP if he was the sort of character that gave a crap.
He was the only genin to be promoted to chunin when he gave up in the middle of his fight that he could have won because he was tired and couldnt be bothered. He managed to beat an immortal akatsuki who I'm sorry only needs to stretch you and then he can sacrifice you and say what you want about hidan but he was no small fry due to being immortal his was a menace with that weapon.
Shikamaru isnt over hyped at all in fact all he's shown is what potential he has and if he made an effort he would have been a very dangerous guy its implied in the anime
Thank you for this comment. I was just thinking that Shikamaru's usefulness or battle skills aren't why I love him so much. It's his personality. He mans up to his responsibility, he takes care of his friends, he doesn't judge ANYBODY, views everybody as an equal, EVEN CONSIDERING SASUKE A COMRADE, AND Shikamaru knows what is most important in the ninja world.

I mean, early in the story, Shikamaru made sny remarks and wasn't present in Naruto's life as a childhood friend or anything like that., his "didn't judge" him came way later and got retconned into "was always friendly" towards Naruto.

I wanna take a second to talk about UNDERHYPED characters.
My personal favorite being Asuma Sarutobi. He’s arguably one of the best original senseis and he was also probably one of the least focused one characters like Neji and Rock Lee

My favorite UNDERHYPED character is Chiyo. She fought Hanzo several times in her Prime and should win on paper with her abilities. We really need flashbacks on rivalries during the Great Ninja Wars

Tell that to Gaara, because Kimimaro was buried by his sand--which while yes is Magnet Release and not Earth release--for the sake of physics, its effectively Earth Release. Kimimaro was able to survive and escape. So...yeah his bones indeed will stop him from being buried by Earth Release, or at least make him able to survive and escape it.
You make it sound like people think Shikamaru is Naruto's Batman.

My list would be
1. Shisui- He is literally just a plot device for Itachi's story more than anything
2. Tobirama- He has some cool aspects about him but we barely learn anything about him
3. Fugagku- Barely has any feats and again, don't know anything about him but he has a lot of fans for some reason.
4. Sakumo- Literally all of his hype is based on 1 statement of him being stronger than Sanin
I disagree with Shikamaru on this list because I don't think he is massively overscaled by most people, everyone just likes him because he is the only one of the side characters in the Konoha 12 who gets any character development after part 1 LOL
I've a theory that Kishimoto favored Shikamaru because he reminded him of himself, which is why he was the only one that remained relevant

Shikamaru is my favorite character because while he is smart af he is also not very strong compared to other characters and he is also flawed in many ways. In my opinion him having these issues but also being a badass is what makes him such a good character.
What I love about him is how balanced he is as a character. One of my favorites as well.
He killed Hidan and his homie while standing in one spot. I say he’s probably had the toughest kill ever n the entirety of Naruto

Totally agree that Shikamaru is an incredibly intelligent strategist, but also definitely agree with him being hyped up too much. It's similar to how people are always like, "Batman can beat anyone as long as he has enough prep time." No actually, they can't just beat literally anyone no matter how much prep time they have.
batman also has insane battle IQ wayyy more the shikamaru like batman is a genius in and out of combat. with prep time batman only does better but he’s still busted even without prep time
@@pm5085 Undoubtedly yes, he is a genius in and out of combat, and has a higher battle IQ than Shikamaru, but he's still not unbeatable. No matter how much prep time he has. They alone could not beat absolutely anyone. They could probably hold off more powerful opponents long enough to safely retreat, but I think that their biggest strengths lie in utilising ALL of their resources available to them. That meaning, it includes how Batman is better able to figure out strategies utilising the powers of any fellow superheroes, and Shikamaru can strategise with the abilities of other ninjas to come up with incredible plans of attack, better than sometimes even they can.

I think the itachi thing is the one shotting.
13 year old itachi one shots Orochimaru shown to beat kage, new resurrection Orochi gets one shouted by the super special god weapons, Nagato the same and the kabuto after him. It’s aggravating him not having peers and not having full struggle fights.
Itachi was actually only 12 when he killed his clan, joined the Akatasuki, and one shot orochimaru (according to Shinden novel)

Orochimaru has shown to be laughably weak against Genjutsu... But that doesnt mean every other Kage would look Itachi in the eye when fighting him.

Over hyped or not. It never made sense to me that one (excluding Obito) person can kill the entire Uchiha clan. I know Itachi is extremely strong but the Uchiha clan is not a push over. A battle like that....at very least Itachi should have some scars.

Itachi had many one shot abilities no surprise there 🥱
I will say that while Kimimaro is overhyped at times, I would still say it is justified and that he would have been quite a bit stronger if he wasn’t sick. First of all we do have a lot of statements about his prowess that put him at the very least around high Jonin characters like Kabuto or Kakashi. First we are shown that he was involved in the plot to assassinate the fourth Kazekage, fighting alongside Orochimaru and Kabuto. This version of Kimimaro would have still been weakened by his illness as he immediately collapses after the fight, showing that even in that state he was still capable of fighting kage level shinobis. Later in the show we are told by Kabuto that if Kimimaro wasn’t sick then he and Orochimaru could’ve easily defeated Hiruzen. This implies that 1)Kimimaro was as strong if not stronger than Kabuto as Kabuto didn’t try to help Orochimaru against Hiruzen and 2)he can engage characters with more than taijutsu as Hiruzen has a mastery over the 5 chakra natures. Since Kabuto was stated to be equal to Kakashi then it is safe to asume that Kimimaro is as at least as strong if not stronger than part one Kakashi without his illness. This is not the only showcase of his power in the manga as an edo Kimimaro is shown holding his ground against a clone of KCM Naruto who holds enough power to fight and even defeat kage level characters. I don’t want to get into too much speculation of how strong this Kimimaro it but it is really impressive that he not only fought this naruto but also just lasted long enough to not be sealed until Itachi released the edo tensei. This shows that the illness that he sustained against Gaara and Lee was really affecting his ability to fight and that he was no where near his full power during that fight. After all Kabuto did say that Kimimaro shouldn’t be able to move, much less fight in the state that he was in.
Okay, hear me out: Itachi's Susanoo was the first mention of Susanoo we saw in the story. Maybe it's not "incomplete" but just "enough for the task"? I don't think the author already planned for complete and winged and sparkly Susanoos yet by that time.
What about madaras susanoo against Hashirama? Was that flashback after?

Its kind of weird thou that they didnt give Madara and Sasuke legendary named weapons like Itachi if they are part of the Sussannoo.
Like yes Sasuke got the bow, and Madara his sword but even as reincarnations of demigods they never got hax weapons or a shield like that.
Wich is especially odd given Itachis main focus was Genjutsu, and Madaras his Sussannoo. And Madaras outscales evrn Indras, and by raw power could propably break itachis with serval area of effect slices that also strike around the shield with its force.
But he still was the only one getting random devine weapons essencially. So i guess Kishi had diffrent plans back then, and planned Itachi as a villan. Thrn changed alot and forgot about the Totska Blade and Yata Mirrors significance.
Are we not going to talk about how Madaras plan wasn't his, but Black Zetsus? Yes, he told Obito to bring him back, but Obito went a different direction. And I believe it was Black Zetsu that "gave" Kabuto the idea where Madara was, surprising Obito.
black zetsu was behind basically every major event in world history since his creation and all with the soul purpose of unsealing kaguya and no one gives him the credit he deserves for that.
That’s because Black Zetsu is legit somehow responsible for every conflict between Indra and Ashura’s descendants ever, despite the fact that we legit see no evidence that he was ever spotted by the Senju, Uchiha, Hyuuga, or the Uzumaki before he began pretending to be Madara’s Will.
Also, why wouldn’t Madara just destroy the world and send everyone to the Pure Lands? It legit would’ve been more peaceful than what he planned, which would have trapped everyone in a Genjutsu until their bodies withered away and died, thus leaving everyone dead anyway.
@@DoomzdehBecause Madara is arrogant and stupid, that's the point, the guy was so confident in himself because of his strength that he never stopped to think about the moral implications of anything, he talks about peace while killing everyone around him, he doesn't care for peace at all but he has his head so far up his own ass that he doesn't realize that all he wants is a egotistical achievement of being able to do what gods can, not achieving peace. If he wanted peace he would have stayed at the Leaf and tried to reason stuff instead of going away to seek more power.
@Doomzdeh the second half of that equation was not actually known by him. The revelation that the infinite tsukuyomi drains the chakra of its victims is a later development, made known by kaguya. For all he knew, it really was just a dream world. Your point still stands though.
Yeah kimi falls into the itachi sickness that fight with garra and Lee was him getting off his death bed for one last fight. That is fucking insane. Imagine him healthy and allowed to grow beyond a teenager.

I remember being 9 or 10 years old and tearing up while seeing Kimimaro gone. Not only he had a handsome design and some of the most fascinating powers in the entire series, but also an emotional backstory. He deserved so much better. I'm glad at least he experienced Orochimaru's loving touch.
I only agree that Shikamaru is over hyped if anyone is crazy enough to believe he alone wins any fights. No, what Shikamaru has is strategy, he personally doesn't need to win any fight aside from his revenge on Hidan, he just needs to ensure the win conditions with the least amount of casualties on his side, and THAT is what he delivers on in every fight he's in. He doesn't have to win, he just has to achieve the best possible outcome, which, he arguably does in every single battle he's in, even the times he got saved by someone he wasn't even expecting, because of his stall tactics, and because he managed to catch his enemies off guard, and because he was able to trap people exactly as he planned, he managed to hold off until reinforcements arrived. It's important to consider, Village Shinobi are not Freelance Mercenaries, they are soldiers. No one is going to complain that a battle in a war was won only because the winning side received reinforcements, like... duh? What kind of wars are you fighting where you want to win and yet you don't use your troops in the best possible distribution? It's poignant to bring up him catching all the Kage off guard because even though he's in no position to threaten them, he doesn't need to be, he's the strategist. If your plan is to lure an enemy somewhere they can be bombed or sniped, it doesn't matter if you yourself are not the one doing the bombing or sniping, as long as you got the enemy where you needed them to be. It's actually embarrassing that the Kage could let their guard down and got ambushed by such an obvious one-trick pony, because even if they could break out or not, the instant they got captured meant they were vulnerable.
So, I kind of agree and disagree that he is over hyped. I guess it makes sense why he is on the bottom of the list of dishonorable, but realistically, no one is saying Shikamaru solos Kaguya with prep time. Sure, realistically he COULD have helped give the same exposition and observation every other character gave in the Kaguya fight, but he didn't need to be there, and he wasn't going to influence the fight at all.
Now, BECAUSE unfortunately there are people who DO believe Shikamaru solos Kaguya with prep time and like Choji's food pills or Naruto 1 tails cloak buff or something ridiculous like that, then yeah, he is over hyped by people who don't understand the nuance of his character.

What I think about Kakuzu is that he might have nerved himself and hasn't used Earth Grudge Fear to it's fullest potential. If he can reattach limbs and Hidans head he should've been capable to snatch atleast one Sharigan or other ocular jutsu in his really long life and just plucked it in. Considering Rin implanted obitos eye in Kakashi almost like it was nothing this should've worked ... I think. The other thought that I had was why limit yourself to the basic 5 elements. He should've been strong enough to kill a couple Kekkei Genkai users and steal their hearts giving him their Kekkei Genkai. Go into the Land of Water find a Yuki clan member kill them steal their heart, now he should have Ice release as his ability to create the mask is limited only by the nature of his victims heart. Like he could have had one Sharingan, one Byakugan, Ice Release, Mud Release, Lava Release, Boil Release and Earth Release. This Kakuzu would've been an absolute menace.
This obviously only works if his puppets aren't tied to the basic elements but since that was never stated I think he was just stupid.

I read a fanfic where Kakuzu trained Naruto and gave him EGF. Naruto in that fic used it to get kekkai genkai and saved Kakuzu after death by giving him a heart.

Everything you said about Itachi when you where explaining how powerful Kabuto is was the most Based accurate depiction/description I've ever heard. I've been sub-ed for a hand full of months and i gotta give you credit. This channel is the only one i trust when it comes to Naruto lore i don't already know. You truly deserve all of the good fortune you've acquired. Seriously im a super weeb and im very critical of any content creator (not to say i am into putting people down or do so regularly or anything even in that wheel house). I still stand by Shikamaru, but less as a "best brain best boy" sort of thing and more as an "underdog using his wits to overcome unfavorable odds". Not impossible odds. The fact that his scope is fairly grounded is actually part of his appeal for me, partially because I liked Naruto better before everybody was a super wizard who could also punch good.
For me I like shikamaru because his character implies he could better than the level his on but cant be bothered to train and if he did he would be OP. If this is shikamaru level when he's lazy then if he wasnt people would be in trouble
The sad thing is: Sakumo Hatake was supposedly strong enough to make the Sannin look weak, and we never got to see it.
Not saying Sakomo is like Otsotsuki level in power or anything, but in defense of him, even though they’re comparing him to the sannin before they were at their peak, it is also said that the sannin become twice (or maybe three times? Can’t remember) as skilled when they’re working together, and considering the fact that they very explicitly use the terms “Three Sannin Combined”, I have to imagine that Sakomo was probably as strong as our current Kakashi. And that’s *really* strong.

While the sannin might be proficient as a unit, Hanzo the salamander on his own was able to handle the 3 Sannin along with their squad.
I say this to show that a Kage level opponent could easily deal with the 3 sannin along with other ninja, which scales the combined teamwork of the sannin as below kage level by quite a margin.
I’d also like to point out that Sakumo was never stated to be kage level only that he’s stronger than the 3 sannin combined which was shown to be below kage level.
Realistically sakumo is at least on par with a single sannin after their dissolution right before the beginning of naruto and at most low kage level. But he’s certainly not anywhere near the level of kakashi, there’s literally no evidence for it.
(I also wanna point out that I used the Hanzo the salamander fight to scale them because that’s the only time they were shown fighting as a unit, and the only war where the Sannin and sakumo fought in, tsunade would develop hemophobia during this same war but in a different battle. So needless to say this was the peak of the 3 sannin as a group before their dissolution . So we know for a fact that when speaking about sakumo as stronger than the combined sannin they are referring to this point in time)

You have to remember that this was said back when the Third Hokage was the strongest Hokage of all time and yet used no techniques besides a Summons. And during the time when Hashirama and Tobirama were reanimated only to be the lamest ninja ever. And when Shukaku, a literal lightweight by the end of the series, was capable of killing legit any Suna Jonin that came across him.
Sakumo was equated to the Sannin in a time in the series where the power scaling hadn’t gone crazy yet. He was likely about as strong as Kakashi in Early Shippuden.
34:53 Tsunade got her Byakugo seal before the begining of part 1. The 3 sannin that stalemated Hanzo and are stated to be weaker than Sakumo were not in their peak. Sakumo should be kage level due to the statements, he should be around the same level as Hanzo, who was the leader of a village and was fairly strong since he fought Prime Chiyo and his word made 3 randoms feared worldwide. No feats tho, which i hate.
I find the Nagato and Kakuzu being similar argument to be very funny. “There are more than 1 so therefor same” as if shooting fire and other elemental releases from the ads is the same as bringing people back from the dead, summoning huge creatures, almighty push etc
Yeah, Kakuzu never seemed very strong to me at all.. Like top 5 akatsuki I even feel is a stretch.. Hard to say how strong orochimari was while in the akatsuki I guess. The zetsu's suck of course. hidan isn't anything special. So the only significant threats he reasonably beats that we know their strength of is deidara and sasori.. and I'm actually not sure he can beat them... deidara could at least tie him with his C4. All of his little clay doll things could likely match up with kakuku's 5 masks... deidara has like dozens of them and can always make more with much more in his kit. He has a bomb that can blow up he sand village so that's pretty damn good. Hell he can stay on his bird thing and drop bombs and kakuzu couldn't even hit him... so I don't think he can really beat deidara.
Sasori's 300 puppets could be a match too vs 5 masks.. some are a lot easier to kill with his aoe attacks though so kakuku likely stands a chance. but even according to the databooks he ranks lower than sasori..
Puppets really arent that great besides his few that have their own powers. If he went up against anyone with significant ninjutsu he probably woudln't get very far (only had a somewhat interesting fight since he went up against granny and sakura who both mainly have physical attacks)

Kakazu‘s and Hidan’s main claim to fame is how goddamn persistent they are. But when it comes to pure firepower, they aren’t really all that special.
I mean, compared to the other members of the Akatsuki who can split oceans, create bombs that can pretty much erase almost anything (except for big snakes, I guess… god, that moment was so bad), create miniature planets, level entire countries in one attack, literally warp reality and so on, an old man with too many hearts made of silly string doesn’t seem that powerful

Kimimaru's power essentially depends if he would eventually gain access to the All-Killing Ash Bones, as his technique is descended from Kaguya, and she's the only other person with his technique.
If he could eventually have unlocked it he becomes a massive threat, if not he would have remained roughly where he was.
All I'll say about Madara Vs Kaguya is that in the Databook description for Aminomanaka, it states that the amount of chakra required to perform the Aminomanaka Jutsu is so much that only Kaguya had enough chakra to use it, meaning Madara even if he has access to it does not have the chakra capacity to use it, so exactly what would Madara do when Kaguya switches him to another dimension, like the acid dimension.

@@AncientChi Kaguya can also fly plus Madara can't Kamui away the bone spikes, the second she teleports him into the gravity dimension and hits him with the bone spikes, Madara is a goner. If he gets teleported to the acid dimension he just dies because he is surrounded by acid so potent that Rinnegan Sasuke(who has a Perfect Susanoo) thought he would die immediately if he was teleported there instead of the desert. So even though Madara is stronger then this Sasuke, it's very questionable how much that would help him against acid this potent and in that large a quantity.
Kakazu I main problem is the arbitrary limit of hearts he can have and that he was not allowed to actually show off multiple jutsu from each element and the interesting combos they could have done. He has that 1 real fight did not showcase all of my abilities the way the longer fight with say Sasori did which is a scheduling editing problem in the anime industry.
About Kimimaro, let's remember that during his fight against Gaara and Lee, he was supposed to be confined to bed to the point where he should not have been able to move but he stands up thanks to his strong will (it's like Lee when he stand up while being unconscious in his fight against Gaara) meaning his power level against them was INSANELY lower than what he would have been healthy.
He could have been 10x stronger and still barerly reach any character in shippuden. His bones also tops out at steel level which is nothing later on in naruto

I actually thought Fugaku would be on the list. I've heard a lot of people say he would beat Minato in a fight which is crazy because from what was said and shown, Minato stomps him easily

Shikamaru is definitely my favorite character but I'm not by any means under any illusions that he's a particularly strong character ability wise. He's just an awesome character with cool personality and abilities. Power scaling has nothing to do with my love for this character so for me I don't think he's overhyped at least by me. I can see how obnoxious some fans are, but that cool because Shikamaru is a dope character and he deserves the love.

the real question is: HOW TF can one create such a huge world and not answering at least the biggest questions fans ask. Jokes asides, such huge worlds like Naruto's simply need or deserve some kind of way to clean up with all those small questions. We dont need a super long indepth Sakumo manga, but it would be nice to have at least some things. even if it's just an indepth databook entry. And Sakumo is by far the only question mark. What about the Namikase clan? And so on. Just give us some kind of a book of unfinished tales that addresses as many questions as possible, while elaboration just a little bit on each. I know from my own experience that one doesnt write a story and includes elements without zero thoughts. There must be at least a minimum of thoughts before a character like Sakumo gets presented to the story. If one introduces a strong character, one should have at least have a rough idea of the abilities, powers and so on. I can bet if one would ask "what did Sakumo do become famous" the answer will not be a one-liner "i have no idea i just needed a strong father for Kakashi who suicided". I'm sure there's even the sligthest bit of unreleased information that would answer the biggest questions about him. Same with the Namikase. Or Kisame's clan. Or hell, even Kakashi's mask. I bet even here there's an answer that simply was not decided to make publicly. Or at least there's an idea of how important it should be, or there would be a reasonable answer that could be build retrospectively to make sense.
I really hope there would be some kind of amalgamation of really short stories or whatever to answer all these questions and fill up all those holes in the huge puzzle that the Naruto world is
Given a bit of prep shikamaru cant just beat anybody. But he can figure out how pretty much anybody can be beaten.
That’s legit not difficult to do though; we see characters like Kakashi and even Rock Lee analyze such weaknesses pretty easily throughout the series.
Darui may arguably also be “smarter” than shikamaru he’s capable of figuring out his most used word and second most used word to switch them out and stop himself from being absorbed by the six path tools used by kinkagu ginkaku and then seal them both in return that intelligence feat is honestly incredible cause it happens in the middle of the biggest war they’ve seen so having that tier of level headedness to even make that plan and then execute it places his intelligence on another level for me
Darui is easily one of the most under hyped in the show I wouldn’t say I can put him on a strength list but he’s definitely one of the most under hyped

I agree and don't with your Shikamaru point. Like, that "Give them prep time" is why I hate the Batman arguments, but Shikamaru was able to shadow choke hold all the Kage, even for a little bit. Shikamaru was able to restrain all of them, even Naruto. Naruto was stated to only be able to get out of it due to Kurama (as always). Shikamaru was able to restrain limited Code and Kawaki, both stronger than Kuramaless Naruto.

That said, I'll never buy a prep time power argument. It's an argument based around the fact that you need a trick or trap to overcome being weaker. It's cool that you can, but someone adaptable or unseen external events put you back to square one.
Orochimaru was introduced to Kabuto by Sasori, who originally had him as a spy before Orochimaru turned him. So, at some point before Orochimaru, but after his time in the Root Kabuto was working for Sasori in the Akatsuki.
I'm not sure how it's possible 19 year old Kabuto has been in no less than 3 top secret organizations as well as spied on all 5 great nations, but he did.
It’s because that whole Sasori-Kabuto part of Shippuden was forced in just so that Kishimoto could introduce Yamato and Sai and therefore give insight into Danzo’s story and character arc for later. Kabuto was an important part of that, as he too gives insight into who Danzo is for his whole conflict with Sasuke later.
That’s legit the only reason it was written. No valuable information was surmised from it (the list of Akatsuki members was useless, as it didn’t include all members and because most members died before it became relevant to fight back) and the whole arc felt very stilted and forced.

the problem with everyone on this list, aside from Shikamaru, is that none of them were around for the War Arc power cliffing that happened. Kakauzu being sent to assassinate Hashirama at the time was a feat. until Hashi exploded in unimaginable power and that line no longer made sense. Sakumo would be a similar situation. statements made before the power scaling was beyond broken. Though Kimimaro was one of the last people to be sealed that we saw, so thats a testament to his strength. either through speed or durability or skill, he had to have been dodging range based attacks and such.
The thing about Shisui is his age. He was doing Body Flicker at a proficiency few could do, and he was a kid doing it. Itachi wasn't doing it, and we saw how strong he ended up being. so its head cannon sure, but you take a feat like that and scale it and you can assume he would have been right up there on Itachi's level at least.

in my opinion rock lee was wayyyyyy over hyped just to get thrown in the trash, during the chunin exam he was said to be able to beat sasuke(with curse mark), and since he was held back his team should've plowed though Naruto, but they don't. He is said to have the mystical power of the lotus 8 gates but his skills seem trivial, as he even loses to gara. (I under stand why). But then later all he does is take L. Loses to Kimimaro, doesn't get screen time, might Gai does most of the work in kisame/akastuki fights, and his potential as a "taijutsui master that can't do ninjutsu" is thrown away as the moral of the neji vs Naruto fight its basically it doesn't matter about ur strength etc. But that idea is thrown away when rock lee shows up. Might Gai and his father dai both have incredible 8-gates strength they go against Madara and the 7 swordsmen of the mist. But then the 8-gates potential is forgotten when the power leveling gets to insane.
He was one of the strongest of the chunin exam up there with gara, neji, Naruto, and sasuke.

He's one of my *favorite* Naruto characters BECAUSE he wasn't the strongest beatstick ninja. His options for combat and resources are limited, but his mind is his forever asset! He's not suppose to beat Sasuke, or even Sakura into submission; that's what the squad is for! He takes care of them, and they take care of him. The way he does it is just hilarious ([remembers Hidan] ...most of the time) and I love seeing how his mind works during these combat situations! 😊 Plus, he's relatable! Everything really do be a drag sometimes...

Most of the time id agree with everone here. But lets talk about Kimimaru. He was a taijutsu kenjitsu specialist with a kekkei genkai. He was 15 years old. He had a curse mark that he could take to level 2. He had Orochinaru teaining him to be his perfect vessel.who does that sound wayyyyy too familiar to? Our boy Sasuke. Had Kimimaru been healthy, he wouldve trained under Orochinaru with Sasuke. Sasuke uaed fire and lightning. Who's to say kimimaru wouldnt have had an affinity for earth and lighting release. Sasuke would have been his rival that Orochimaru favored andnwanted his body wvwn though kimimaru was willing to give him his. I really think he wouldve been equal to Sasuke at the start of Shippiuden. Then when sasuke unlocks MS, Kimimaru would have to try and find a way to upgrade his bone ability to try to equal Sasuke. If you wanna stop there, then whatever but i think the pre MS Sasuke is plenty powerful for the story up to that point. And if he upgrades and unlocks other abilities or some big brain way of using it, who knows how atrong he couldve become. I mean come on, his ability is one that Kaguya even used and effectively. Would love your thoughts on a story of if Kimimaru didnt die, reversed his sickness or whatever, and basically became Sasuke's rival.

1. Itachi, while his character is cool I heavily disagree that he could have gone anywhere in terms of power. He has the brains but he doesn’t have much stamina to fight, and we don’t know the true extent of how badly he’s affected by his illness. I also think that his susanoo would just be the same as EMS sasuke’s since iirc sasuke lost his crossbow when he got the perfect susanoo anyway
2. Madara. Specifically 3 eye Madara. He is straight up featless aside from the infinite tsukuyomi, and he was heavily implied to lack the chakra to dimension hop like kaguya, and he never had any feats or statements of his power when he got the third eye, people just assume it’s a 10000% amp
3. Kakuzu. His sheer raw durability can solo the akatsuki
4. Might guy, specifically the eighth gate, I always see people that think he could beat dms kakashi but that’s just not happening
5. Minato, but his gap in terms of overrated is pretty spaced out from guy. People tend to overrate how smart he is since we’ve seen other people do what he did too, 2 of them being nobodies that are danzo’s guards that quickly found out a counter to kamui, and even boruto a 11-12 year old not only learned rasengan in a day but also accidentally did something that minato could never do, and then he proceeded to make 2 more rasengan variants, totaling 4 if we count the basic rasengan, or even 6 if we count momoshiki taking over his body and using rasenDan or some massive rasengan
Good arguments for their strenghts but hype doesn't only come from strenght - it's mostly their character, their choices and interactions and many other facettes like their vibe, their appearance, their voice, their backstory and so much more. 😊
Sakumo would have been a perfect resurrect this man for the war arc to show him off. Same as Hanzo? But they didn’t fucking allow Hanzo to shine really. Truly a shame. Could have had tsunade fight him and a this is the San in older fighting Hanzo thing. Also I’m so mad that we did not get a resurrected Kushina instead of ginkaku and kinkaku
bruh, if Kimimaro wasn't sick/dead in OG he'd of had time to train just like everybody else. The "one trick pony" thing is also pretty misleading since he's basically just a spiky A, but with ranged attacks. The only problem is that Gaara could mostly ignore those ranged attacks. On the whole "that was his peak" that doesn't make since either, His bones were already crunchy looking and turned to dust from Gaaras sand shield, Also the further he went with the curse mark the slower and sloppier he got.
Applying Shippuden's scaling to Kimimaro makes the Akatsuki look like babies. Seriously this 15 YO guy was already stronger than Itachi and was not limited to 1 or 2 opponents at a time with his skillset, he could embarrass Konoha just like Pain did.
21:04 kimmimaro didn't pull out his spine to use it as a sword tho, that was his arm's upper bone, his spine was used as a wip to hold gaara in place for his arm drill attack thing.
On a side note, Log with Kimimaro's ability and his kenjutsu skills would be fvcking sick. Him and Mitsuki together would be the strongest duo easily.
I think we can all agree rock lee was the most underhyped and underrated character in Naruto. He is #1 awesome person.
I still think Itachi is overhyped. He’s incredibly strong, but he’s not god like some seem to think.
His stamina isn’t necessarily due to his illness even, and he never was able to get a perfect Susano despite the years he had it. Amaturasu is very situational and his genjutsu can be negated by shadow clones.
And especially since he makes a lot of terrible decisions.
He’s on the level of the higher Hokages, but only on that level imo.
When has anyone in the history of naruto used a shadow clone to nullify an strong genjustsu like tsukyomi or kotoamatsukami Lol that's ridiculous ...and him not having a perfect susanoo has nothing to do with how long he had it for smh it's about having the ms as opposed to the ems he simply didn't take sum1 else's eyes so he he can't do it🤷♂️...you casual fans are funny Lol

Nc Hammer, you forgot minato. Minato is very over hyped. One thinks he has kuramas level of chakra. Some think he is hashi level of Power. Some think he can beat kurama with out kushinas help. Some think he is 8th gates guy in speed, etc. 👍
His feats speak for him because he literally did almost all the things you stated lol. But I know a lot of fans love Minato and overhype him some times but he's got insane feats to back most of the hypes up.

Just like any technique, there are varying degrees of characters' prowess, but any average Ninja is capable of performing the jutsu.

Nah what shikamaru lacked in OG naruto is that he didn't give a crap. He only started to give a crap when Asama died and then he realised oh sh*t this is actually for real we can actually die. But by then he was already a chunin and busy no time for training. Shikamaru was the character with potential it was always implied e.g when he gave up in the chunin because he couldnt be bothered but still got promoted to chunin because the higher ups recognised his potential

Yeah even before that he basically completely negged Gaara's massive sand burial and proceeded to do a Minato by appearing right behind him and killing him...but he died of overexerting himself while basically a walking paralyzed corpse before the killing blow hit the target.
This guy was keeping Jûgo in check before OG Naruto started. Post time skip Sasuke in base would be dead meat to Jûgo without genjutsu. 13-14 YO Kimimaro>post time skip Sasuke. With a time skip and Shippuden scaling, Kimimaro would have been Pain level without his illness. Let's not even start talking about real sage mode amp, becoming a Jinchûriki and other ways to gain power that would make him completely dwarf the Akatsuki.
No one in p1 dealt any lasting damage to Kimimaro. Chakra illness>>>>>any Naruto character XD it even killed Itachi who had an answer to everything.
