FYI parents- I ordered the Great Naval Battles of the Twentieth Century book, which was recommended in this video, and the first page I opened to I saw the "F-word". After further review, I found many other curse words throughout, highly derogatory terms, and multiple sexual references. Not a book that I would consider appropriate for the targeted age range of this curriculum (4th-8th grade).
@HOMEsteadSCHOOLED: thanks for your comment. We should have made that clearer in the video. In the activity book itself, we do warn parents. That particular book ("Great Naval Battles of the Twentieth Century") has a "PREVIEW" tag in front of it where we list it in the Activity Book. In the Important Note to Parents on page xiii, we say this about the "PREVIEW" tags: "Families differ in their attitudes about potentially sensitive subjects that will come up during the study of history. Volume 4 of The Story of the World covers a span of time that contains many dark topics that require sensitive handling. We suggest that you skim through the activities in this guide and skip anything that might be inappropriate for your own family. We strongly encourage you to skim the recommended literature suggestions before you pass them on to your children. We have worked hard to select books that appropriately handle the historical events of the Modern Age, but eighth graders are able to handle far more than fourth graders, and it’s important to note that not all of the books listed will be right for all families using this book. You’ll see a “preview” next to titles that we especially encourage parents to screen."
