My heart and spirit is broken she was of another generation but my parents and grandparents had Motown music everywhere. I never understood why Diana said Mary was mean when ssf o m as my people loved Mary plus maybe Mary was hurt and not as forgiving at the time. It takes time I believe they found forgiveness but only Diana is left to tell the out comes.
Mary was great singing the slower songs in the 3 albums with Scherrie, Cindy, and Susaye. Her voice is more strained on faster songs. I think it would havebeen better i Scherie had the entire leas on He's My Man. I saw Mary, Cindy, and Scherrie at the Holiday House in Pttsburgh in December 1975. It may have been the last time Cindy sang in the group. The next thing I knew, she was out, and Susaye was in. I liked the Mary, Cindy, Scherie grouping equally as the Jean, Mary and Cindy group best. The 1975 album was my favorite.
The narration in this clip (from.2:11) is grossly misleading. The narrator states: "After Diana broke with the group, and Florence died, Mary went off on her own, and she fought for the right to use the group's name'. Well, here's what ACTUALLY happened. Thanks to the talents of JEAN TERRELL and SCHERRIE PAYNE (the other two of the three lead singers of The Supremes from 1964-77) the trio continued to have hits and tour the world. Mary's last performance as a member of The Supremes happened on Sunday, June 12th, 1977 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London. I was there. That same year Mary sold all of her rights to the use of The Supremes trademark. She had previously owned only fifty percent of one-third of the trademark. And, when she sold up, she signed away all of her rights to the use of the group name. Then, just a few months later, she infringed Motown's trademark (by trying to tour as The Supremes with two background singers) and was successfully sued by the company. Had the narrator bothered to read the two books (Dreamgirl and Supreme Faith) written by author Patricia Romanowski (using the diaries of Mary Wilson), he would have known these facts.
