  • In this video we'll be finding out more about the laboratory of X-ray fluorescence spectrometry of the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padua where chemical analyzes of solid materials are performed to determine the concentration of major, minor and trace elements.
Measurements are very precise and accurate thanks to the calibration done on the instrument using international geological standards. The laboratory makes use of a latest generation instrument, a Panalytical Zetium which was acquired in February 2022 by the Department of Geosciences: in this first year of activity, more than 500 samples have been analyzed, covering a wide range of materials, not only strictly geological (such as minerals, rocks and sediments), but also materials of the field of cultural heritage or industrial materials.
In the video Lara Maritan, Associate Professor of the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padua and head of Laboratory, explains more about the instrument and the techniques with which the samples are prepared and analysed.
