From Looper: The banner on the right reads, "karate musente" (空手無先手) which translates to, "karate no first punch" or, put in Miyagi terms, "Karate is for defense." So that lines up with what Miyagi said back in The Karate Kid Part II. Interestingly, though, the banner on the left read, "senseigoshin (先正其心) which actually means, "first, have a sound mind."
I thought at first that high kick he does to Johnny was a stunt double, but then I saw the behind the scenes of that kick and it actually WAS Martin Kove.. Unbelievable at his age. Even Chuck Norris, much smaller, stopped doing high kicks decades ago.
I like that Daniel is opening Miyagi do as an alternative to Cobra Kai because he feels like he owes it to his younger self to "save" students from the (old) teachings of Cobra Kai. Of course, he doesn't know Johnny is trying to change Cobra Kai, because well Johnny himself didn't realize until after the tournament that teaching in the same way he was taught was problematic. So Daniel has no reason to think Cobra Kai has changed. And he'll continue to be given reason to doubt it will ever change for the better...i.e. Johnny inviting Kreese back into Cobra Kai.
Free karate is bullshit though. Some people teach martial arts for a living. He threatens not only Johnny's business, but the business of other schools in the area as well.
@@perssontm1628 It's his problem because he's tainting the memory of Miyagi by attacking Cobra Kai. Karate for defense only. He explicitly opens the dojo just to start shit with Johnny.
I love Johnny’s analogy when he gives his reprimand! When explained with that imagery, it helps bring clarity to what is the stronger action. Stronger in body and in spirit. Be the kind of person capable of defeating your enemy when they are at their strongest, and don’t rely on the enemy being weakened to win. Its badass and honorable.
