I for one, am here for the whole package; the tech stuff, concepts, ideas & inspiration, but also the pseudo-social side where tangents, philosophy, banter, and love of music and art generally are akin to chatting to mates at a gig or rehearsal. It maybe ‘sad’ but TPS is a bit of a social lifeline to me - moving to Bristol 8 years ago (leaving behind long-standing bands & musical relationships), having children, then the covid mess, family & bandmates moving across the world… all feel a bit isolating & though I do have friends & musical projects here, TPS has become quite personal & important to me.
Do you guys realize how meaningful you are to some people this gentleman who is passing away wanted to come and see you guys do your show thank you thank you thank you You mean a lot to us keep up your great show
Bless you mate, thank you, as we’ve said, being on this journey is a lot to have in common, it’s certainly not lost on us, we’re humbled, grateful, and inspired to keep doing this thing for as long as we can 🥰🙏
I watch every TPS episode - mostly because I enjoy listening to you two discuss pedals and guitars and amps and lawn mowers and things of that nature. On occasion you'll have an episode I'm really interested in - but mostly I just enjoy hanging out with you regardless of the topic. Love you guys! Looking forward to a fun 2025 - Cheers!
Thanks leg ends. I watched this while boxing up a guitar that I had just sold that evening! Whilst doing so you read out an email of the chap who had bought it! Rhys you have impeccable taste!!
here's to 10 more years. you guys are an invaluable source of real information and insights and I love your style, content, intelligence and knowledge. keep on keeping on!!!!
My favourite episodes are the ones where you deep dive on a certain piece of gear, be it an amp, guitar or pedal. Im a big fan getting the most out of each bit of gear so its fun seeing your experience and mileage exploring all the tones in a particular amp etc. I loved the 'our guitars and gear' series.
Glad your talking about tube amps. Just this morning I woke up and found I forgot to turn off my tube amp, with standby off. Oops, tubes probably lost a bit of life 😅
The conversation about the “new pedal day” videos not getting views was very interesting. How do the “challenge” videos do? I love the challenge videos because 1) we often see a variety of pedals and interesting ways to use them. 2) watching your different approaches is fascinating 3) watching your reactions to how the others approach is great fun. Love it all though! Thanks for being here for us!
I think I’ve watched every video you’ve made (some several times), having discovered you via Andertons during April 2020!). I don’t think I’ve bought any specific kit off one of your videos but I have learnt so much and my rig is a reflection of everything you me taught me. Early on, the video’s about different types of pedals and how to use them together was really valuable (I.e. different types of drive or delay etc). I never understood delay before TPS and now I have 5 on the board! I love when you dig into concepts and also when you explain why you’ve made certain choices (this is where the challenge vids excel). Whatever videos you want to make I’ll watch them!
I for one fell in love with this show because of the pedal episodes fyi! I do understand you have to be mindful of the stupid algorithms out of your control but i truly love those episodes and ive rewatchted them countless times! Hopefully you find a way to feed both ends of the beast and we are graced with more pedal episodes lol!! Just giving my 2 cents with much love!!
I watch every TPS video, but living in Australia, never live. Came here for the pedal reviews but have learned a while lot more about tone and how we can influence it. Try and keep the pedal reviews in.
Happy New Year gents. Thanks for all you do. Lovin' the new Tees. I said goodbye to my 40's yesterday, so it's a good excuse to visit the store and snag one of each.
I’m rarely able to listen live, but I always listen after the fact. I’ve been a musician since 4th grade (I’m more or less Dan’s age now), but I had to quit playing acoustic (my main instrument) due to RSI a good 10 to 15 years ago. TPS was a big factor in my picking up electric guitar again, which I hadn’t played since high school- which was pre-internet, so I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. Now I’m playing weekly at a church, am active in a cover band, and am practicing with some amazing musicians building a new originals band. It was the ideas, concepts, and ways to approach music and sound that helped me more than the specific pedal comparisons or demos. That said, I enjoy all manor of TPS content from philosophy to tomfoolery. Thanks for 10 years and all the best to you for whatever direction you take things in 2025!
Although I listen to almost all of your videos, I want to say how much I've enjoyed your episodes of short competitions. Some are so much fun while also being informative and inspiring... it's so much fun to see you solving problems and having fun with the challenges, even the silly ones.
I am here for the community. Great place of like minded people, and I learn so much about the hobby that I love just being here and soaking it all in. Thanks for everything Gents, cheers to another year.
Happy New Year TPS family! The silly name thing - what a way to start the year! At work yesterday I came across a Richard Weiner and then I get home and begin watching TPS, only to be confronted with more silly name shananagi...don't think the 12 year old boy humor every truly leaves many of us, does it!
Honestly, my fave is when you guys are playing more free or playing unique gear with ideas in mind... and the challenges that get you creative. I like the straight pedal stuff too at times, but only if I'm interested in that pedal or that effect tbh. Edit: in terms of pedal videos, I'm more talking about the ones where you're running through 5ish new pedals. I do enjoy the pedal videos talking about a concept or even comparing different types of a certain group / style. I'm still holding out hope for the Magnatone vs Magnatone type pedal video. And would love to see you visit more shops (or with more people) playing vintage/rare gear. ATB is still one of my fave videos y'all have ever done.
I came for the sounds, remained for the concepts, and must come (late not Live) for the community. Would I like more personal contact with guitar peers, yes, but thank you for being here in my busy life in a disconnected world.

The Equinox documentary was one on my pivotal inspirations too, the Jerry Donahue clip still gets pulled up on RUclips today for refence. It was the start of a life long journey with guitars and still represents for me the magic and mystery that the electric guitar represents, truly wonderful!
Jerry Donahue- I transcribed that version of the claw which was different to the one on the album and VHS. For many years I’ve tried to find the hush-puppy advert with a reel to reel and a red strat. Had the most wonderful playing which apparently was him. As always some mind boggling bending!
Yes on bass! I put a looper / drum machine pedal in front of the bass amp and muck about with a fretless bass to put down something to play guitar over. If I did want to spend the time to become a serious bass player, I think I would learn on a fretless - it sounds so cool.... or I imagine it would if I could play it worth a damn.
The best part is that Dan is wearing a new hat that allows him to look like Dan. What hat could be better. Certainly not those baseball hats from 2024, 😇 THANX DAN!!! It is great to have you back in That-Pedal-Show-Land
When I realized I'd probably never find what I was looking for It dawned on me that my looking had changed to make sure that remained the case. It was never about a thing but the looker.
I’m sure the hard core group of TPS disciples is much bigger than you described Mick. Love all the shows, loved my experience day and TPS gigs, love the merch too. All the best for 2025 and everything to come!
There was an Australian politician named Richard Face. My old bass player went to school with a couple of brothers who's surname was Nus, and first initials were A and P.
Completely unguitar related but I worked with a lady called Carrie Williams who was going to marry Adam Hiscox Upon completion of nuptials she was all of a sudden Carrie Ann Hiscox......... Wayne King is always the other classic Great show chaps and Happy New Year
Can’t wait for my ABY-Baby and Wetter box to arrive that I ordered from the GigRig.I’m hoping to try the wet/dry/wet rig configuration. My only concern is phase issues with the wet/wet amps that are boss Katana’s (digital) and my dry is a 5150 1/2 stack tube amp.
I know I am a litte late to the party because I couldn‘t make the VCQ Live (I went to the movies to watch Nosferatu), but could you imagine uploading an occasional Pick ‚n‘ Mix to Patreon? I feel like many of us love the format and it would be a way to not mess with the RUclips algorithm. I reckon it would be too much work for not getting views. Still, I‘d love to see the P‘n‘M return. ❤
look, if I want to hear a pedal demo and TPS has played it, I will check the video before I buy it. But that's not why I watch TPS every week or why I watch the VCQ's. The reason TPS feels like a family is because you guys discuss concepts, context, the meaning of making music with people, connection.
I just realized that the strongest enslavement may be to the self awareness which reminds us of our limitations. And the greatest frustration is when we struggle to overcome that limitation in our own strength.
Hi. Maybe you could do a show on how to record guitar sounds with more than an iPhone. I've been watching you for 2-3 years now and I've learned so much, and re-energized my love of playing. I know there are other channels that help with other topics - but you two do a great job of explaining things in understandable terms. Like, if I want to record myself using a Zoom recorder and a couple of mics, take video on an iPhone - marry those things up and edit. I think there are people who want to record themselves, have some vague idea of how to do it (like me), but get paralyzed choosing equipment or even getting started. Also, I don't mean a show on editing - I just mean I would like to get a recorder and mics for better audio, marry up with video, and publish on RUclips - if for no other reason just to share with my friends. Again - I know it's not your typical content - but people like me who speak the same language as you - it might be easier for me to learn it from you guys than from a person who is a video professional - they're already out of my league. If that makes sense. Just an idea to throw into the hopper for consideration. Thanks! :--)
So glad you're back Gents, interesting names RICHARD HEAD , my friend's wife is VICTORIA CROSS and actually her husband Steve is Chris Stamps cousin as in THE WHO'S former manager and also Terrance Stamps cousin yes General Zod SUPERMAN Terrance Stamp and he lived in the same flats as David Cook or as we know him DAVID ESSEX by the way Steve didn't mention his famous family it was another guy at work, if it was my family no one would need to ask me twice ( only kidding ) another favourite name was a former member of THE SWEENEY called ROBIN BANKS ( LM not joking )
Ole Richard Noggin. We have a local dentist named Dr. Jeffery Toothman 😆. Also, there is a guy that is in accounting at work who's name is Kevin Glasscock.
Following from the wet-dry/stereo query… My wet-dry board splits using a humdinger, isolated out to the dry amp. Was Dan saying that if a true stereo reverb was placed between the board and the amps, then additional isolation on one side would be required?
Hi guys and girls, The Equinox documentary was called Twang, Bang, Kerang and can be found on RUclips. I was already heading in the direction of the guitar anyway but this documentary pushed me over the edge. I practically wore out the tape trying to get some of this stuff down. Hendrix was raw and primal, Donohue just beyond my comprehension at that point, and I'm sorry to say that what Hank Marvin and The Shads did in the 1960's went over my head in those early teenage years. I've since backtracked on that - a generation and more owes the idea of the guitar hero to Hank - another Geordie who changed the world. Andy Summers looked very young for a man already in his forties then - and reading the negative comments around YT on it, I don't think his rig sounds bad at all? If it's a Cornish rig, and I think it was, then they were famous for using the guts of the analog pedals within the system. Sure Dan will know? Regardless, it looks like a nightmare to programme, but it sounds great. My abiding memory, though, is of the frankly (no pun intended) monstrous Frank Dunnery demonstrating legato and action with one massive hand crawling nimbly over the fretboard like a giant pink spider, and then a ferociously tight It Bites regarding 'Once Around The World' - both sections prompted a lifelong love of Frank's playing and writing, and It Bites - a very underrated band whose work is still a trip. Not sure of your criteria for choosing guests but any chance you could get either Andy or Frank on? A lot of modern guitar (textured, ambient, chord choices, choice of effects) owes a debt to his work in The Police and he's still out there pushing and playing. As for Frank, he's a unique talent with a unique take on gear / guitars / music / etc. Would love to see you sit down and chat with them. Keep up the good work - your channel is brilliant. Ignore the haters, keep doing what interests you and makes you happy. It seems to have worked so far! Brilliant, brilliant insights, playing, guests, chat, and engagement. Well done.
Wonderful! Thank you for this. Ah man, there were sooooo many greats in that show. Be great to see what Mr Dunnery is up to these days, and Mr Summers too of course!
My chemistry teacher at school was Miss Christine Airey and while we were at school she married a David Pratt. No, they didn't use a double-barrelled name, even if we wags did! Haha. Just one minor point: Watching a few hours later on playback and you're both VERY quiet. I have had to do a "Nigel" and turn everything up to eleven to hear you!
Hmmmm. Argh. This is annoying. Apologies. We have no way of monitoring the levels into RUclips. Or indeed how much RUclips cuts it. Which it does. Atrghhhhhhh
An actual neurologist might have a better idea but I think your sensory phenomenon would probably fall under proprioception which is the sense of one's position in space and subsequently the position of objects around you. Also Pick'N'Mix for life. Maybe a series of face-off challenges where you both make boards of previously unfeatured gear and duke it out.
Goofy episode idea for 10 year anniversary > Use “Vintage TPS” gear and production techniques (GoPro, Goby Tripod, Corner background shot, etc.) to recreate or revisit Vintage TPS” episode gear or topic.
If you can make the synth bass sound of Ian King, my brother and I will watch it so many times, it will be your most viewed video 😂 He uses a fuzz, octave and a chorus.
Streaming audio quite low today, mates. At least here in Talkeetna, Alaska. Maybe because it's 2.2 degrees Celsius in January. It's almost like summer!
Hi gents Not relating to most recent show so hope im ok to post here. Long term subscriber. I am trying to set up a two amp (dual mono, no stereo and not much 'wet' effect either) rig. I have a proper splitting device (JHS Active ABY) so polarity and ground loop should not be an issue. Currently rewatching your 2 amp show from Feb 24, but what I'm not sure of is how best to 'dial in'/EQ the sound, especially with overdrive, which I want from the amps. I find it either a bit too bright/ice picky, or if I dial back treble/presence to compensate for that, it is then a bit too nasal (is this mids?). Could you give a rough guide how to EQ and dial in so I might improve the base tone? Many thanks and best wishes Mark PS the guitar I'm mainly using is also new to me so that is a factor, but I am using the controls on it too!
It’s entirely subjective Mark. For example Dan’s sound is always too treble/ice pick for me, and mine is too dull/ flat for him. So it really is a ‘to taste’ thing! One thing to try is setting the controls to the point of most change, ie where you hear a big jump in difference. Set it there!
A list of true Stereo pedals from a reddit list from 7 years ago, with a few additions of my own. Can vouch for accuracy. Houston, we have a problem. If you listen to the audio we record, it’s loud, proud and clear. So we have an issue between with streaming and RUclips. Joy.
@@ThatPedalShow 'loud, proud and clear' - your local RUclips playback? Compared to other channels, I have to crank TPS a lot. Are you feeding RUclips enough dB?
Prrobably going to get a bit of kick back from this comment, but it is meant as constructive critiscism. I couldn't get through the whole 2 hours tonight, once you notice how Dan seems to spend most of the time staring at a phone, the whole 'only Real Amps, and wet / dry / wet setup is authentic' starts to grate on me. Tonight the volume level was really low, and the discussions were hard to follow, which is something that should be easy to fix, after 10 years of doing it. I know you guys don't want to get involved with digital stuff, which is really where all the innovations are happening these days, and I would like to challenge you to recreate a wet / dry / wet rig with something like the £150 Tonex One, which quite honestly can sound staggering. 3 pedals and 3 cabs should get you there, or somewhere close anyway. Playing it at 100db might take a little more gear, but it might be a useful evolution on the shows format. Sorry if it sounds negative, but it is something I have noticed over the last few q and a's, and once you spot it-it really winds you up.
It’s not negative, it is what it is. Volume should have been fine judging by our metering, be interested to hear from others - we’ll keep an eye on the comments. As for the digital/analogue and all that thing, ah, maybe. I’ve been saying this quite a bit recently - Mick here - but TPS is about most best, not least worst. The rest of the internet is obsessed with the latter so we’ll leave them to it. With respect. If it’s too irritating, the web is a big place. Cheers.
Why are all you modeler folks sooooo hell bent on trying to force your opinions on others? Can't you exist in a world with options and choices? Some people (possibly like yourself) like digital processed sounds while others like real amps. It's fine. Let people have their preferences.
Tonex One? Trying to parse your construction, but it is very difficult. Not sure what innovations you are trying to promote, but I think we prefer to do fun stuff, rather than meaningless challenges. If you could explain what I am missing here, is there a point?
@@hoboroadie4623 The main point was how irritating it is to see a discussion where one of the guys appears to spend most of the 2 hours simply looking at a phone screen, while occasionally saying only real old valve amps and expensive self promoted pedals can get you the 'tone', nothing else comes close. In the real world, most of us simply play for enjoyment, not profit, and therefore we need something that can work well at home volumes. I myself own numerous nice valve stuff, which needs expensive load boxes and digital IR stuff to allow the amps to shine - not too practical really for my use, so I chose to try out the Tonex platform to get something close. The most basic one is the Tonex One, and my 'challenge' if you can call it that, was just an idea where they could possibly try to create a rig which could recreate the holy TPS wet / dry setup, if there is such a thing . I am not making a point about one avenue vs another - both exist, but it seems the TPS guys have set a line in the sand which they will not cross, I guess the show is useful to somebody who has an unlimited budget and a soundproof room, but to me at least, it is becoming a weird voyeur experience of watching 2 guys play at high volume through laptop speakers, while telling me that it is an experience I am missing. The phenomenon of watching the top of somebodys head, while they appear distracted by a phone during a 'conversation', is not something I want to see recreated, as I said, it is meant as constructive criticism, and as the show is called 'that pedal show', exploring a pedal like the Tonex should not fall outside their brief, should it?
I for one, am here for the whole package; the tech stuff, concepts, ideas & inspiration, but also the pseudo-social side where tangents, philosophy, banter, and love of music and art generally are akin to chatting to mates at a gig or rehearsal. Upon completion of nuptials she was all of a sudden Carrie Ann Hiscox.........
Wayne King is always the other classic
Great show chaps and Happy New Year
Can’t wait for my ABY-Baby and Wetter box to arrive that I ordered from the GigRig.I’m hoping to try the wet/dry/wet rig configuration.
Thanks! :--)
Confirming I’m here for the concepts and how they relate to playing in a band.
Mick, you need to watch Gibson TVs “Joe Bonamassa shows you how to dial in an amplifier”. He confirms your 2 o’clock method works on amps too…
No leslie recorded tone is better than that which appears on Tres Hombres. Hot Blue and Righteous, When The Rain Fell … just the best!
1:32 minutes in. YES. I am more interested in concepts and techniques than specific gear. HOW do I use the gear I have.
Hi guys and girls,
The Equinox documentary was called Twang, Bang, Kerang and can be found on RUclips.
Atrghhhhhhh
How do the challenge episodes perform? I wonder if you could combine that with the new pedals videos.
Nice! Great idea, thank you!
Another simple reverb with plenty of sounds is the ehx oceans 11
You could include a new pedal review as a feature in your usual shows?
An actual neurologist might have a better idea but I think your sensory phenomenon would probably fall under proprioception which is the sense of one's position in space and subsequently the position of objects around you. Also Pick'N'Mix for life. Maybe a series of face-off challenges where you both make boards of previously unfeatured gear and duke it out.
Count me in for the Bass content Mick! 🙋♂️
✌️❤️🐓
Keep being authentic and try not to sweat the B.S., You have a niche show.Keep playing to your audience.
A freind is of mine is called Robert Sole, his letters say Mr R Sole 😂 100% true! 😂😂😂
Goofy episode idea for 10 year anniversary > Use “Vintage TPS” gear and production techniques (GoPro, Goby Tripod, Corner background shot, etc.) to recreate or revisit Vintage TPS” episode gear or topic.
YES!!!!!! And of course everyone will say it sounds and looks better!

Back to the future, La Bamba and general introduction into rock was Risky Business.
👍🏿🤘 HNY leg-ends. Redwing already has pride of place on my board.
Thank you so much! 🤓🙏
If you can make the synth bass sound of Ian King, my brother and I will watch it so many times, it will be your most viewed video 😂
He uses a fuzz, octave and a chorus.
How about a TPS 2 for demos?
Would love to, but we can barely get the videos out for one channel.
Well, everyone was spared a bunch of my usual inane asides, time-out malfunction?
Livestream Pedal Demos is the future, Monthly live stream with beer trying out new pedals on a friday night
Streaming audio quite low today, mates. At least here in Talkeetna, Alaska. Maybe because it's 2.2 degrees Celsius in January. It's almost like summer!
Are the charcoal t-shirts activated?
That's sad about blue.... I've raised my kids learning about TPS and they used to know that "Dan plays a red telecaster and Mick plays a blue Strat".
It’s not sad, happy or anything else. It just is. Tell your kids Mick saved up all his pocket money and can play any colour guitar he likes!
Hi gents
Not relating to most recent show so hope im ok to post here.
Many thanks and best wishes
Mark
PS the guitar I'm mainly using is also new to me so that is a factor, but I am using the controls on it too!
@ThatPedalShow thanks Mick. Will perhaps try that with both amps and go from there 👍
Someone's got to explain Shelly Beach to me 😅
A beach with shells on?
@@ThatPedalShow I was looking for a euphemism too hard! :D
I work with a guy called Rod Mutch, honest to god!
Didn't Paul Kossoff have a cousin called Juan? 🤔
Getting a great bass overdrive sound without going metal would be fun

Sorry - but the best ones I have and they are real.... Mr Bill Wiper.... (Willie) and James De-ath and yes he was a doctor - promise you Im not making this up
I know of a Rick Gekovski, not a Dick... and I remember a Tony Ankers, who was often nicknamed William by the rest of the Squadron....
Audio seems to be quieter & more muffled show by show???

@@ThatPedalShowSpot on Mick! Thanks to you and Dan for what you do!
